Coming up on today's live Blue Peter,

6:48:586:49:01

as the new Spider-Man film hits the cinema screens,

6:49:016:49:03

we've some dangerous and deadly spiders here in our studio.

6:49:036:49:07

CBBC's Dick and Dom give us a marvellous treat

6:49:096:49:12

as they reveal their all-time favourite story book.

6:49:126:49:15

And prepare to be wowed by their amazing stunts -

6:49:166:49:20

the UK's freestyle scooter champions are here to perform for you.

6:49:206:49:23

APPLAUSE

6:49:416:49:44

-Hello.

-Hi. Hello, welcome to the show.

6:49:446:49:46

It's live, it's interactive and, as you can see,

6:49:466:49:48

Team Razor are warming up to give you a display

6:49:486:49:50

you're not going to want to miss. Don't go anywhere.

6:49:506:49:52

Cool, aren't they? Hands up who's been to the cinema lately.

6:49:526:49:55

If you've been, you'll know the Amazing Spider-Man movie

6:49:556:49:57

has just been released. That's not my opinion -

6:49:576:49:59

it's called that, isn't it?

6:49:596:50:01

That is its actual title. It follows the story of Peter Parker,

6:50:016:50:04

who's bitten by a radioactive spider

6:50:046:50:06

and that's how he got his super powers.

6:50:066:50:08

Actually, it's true because these super powers exist in real life.

6:50:086:50:13

Yes, we are about to introduce you to three big furry, scary spiders.

6:50:136:50:19

You might want to hide behind your cushions now.

6:50:196:50:22

I might stay here for this one.

6:50:226:50:23

No need to worry because we have an expert handler with us.

6:50:236:50:27

It is Crocodile Joe. Now, Crocodile Joe,

6:50:276:50:29

your nickname has crocodile in the title,

6:50:296:50:31

-but you know about spiders, too, don't you?

-I certainly do.

6:50:316:50:34

I certainly do. I spent a lot of years in Australia

6:50:346:50:37

researching and studying tarantulas of the Australian rainforest.

6:50:376:50:42

So you are well positioned to handle the ladies we have in these boxes?

6:50:426:50:46

I certainly am. I certainly am.

6:50:466:50:47

OK. Who are you going to introduce us to first?

6:50:476:50:50

-This is a Chile rose tarantula.

-Wow.

-She's actually called Tilly.

6:50:506:50:53

We mentioned there that spiders have super powers, a bit like Spider-man.

6:50:536:50:58

How is Tilly similar to the superhero?

6:50:586:51:00

Well, she's very similar to Spider-Man

6:51:006:51:02

because this girl actually spins silk, just like Spider-Man.

6:51:026:51:06

Now, this one doesn't actually spin a web like Spider-man.

6:51:066:51:11

-He actually spins silk to catch his prey.

-OK.

6:51:116:51:14

This one will actually eat all kinds of little insects

6:51:146:51:19

to little mice, all kinds of little animals.

6:51:196:51:22

It must be a strong web to catch those sorts of animals.

6:51:226:51:25

-It's actually stronger than steel.

-What?!

6:51:256:51:29

It's stronger than steel.

6:51:296:51:31

If you can get a piece of steel as wide as a web,

6:51:316:51:34

then the steel would break before the web.

6:51:346:51:37

-Is she poisonous?

-She's mildly venomous,

6:51:376:51:39

but it's almost like a bee sting.

6:51:396:51:42

But she does have two centimetre-long fangs

6:51:426:51:46

which she'll pump into her prey.

6:51:466:51:48

My heart is beating so fast!

6:51:486:51:51

You've done really well.

6:51:516:51:54

-Nice to meet you, Tilly.

-OK. Moving on to the next one,

6:51:546:51:57

so we're talking about superpowers, things related to the super hero.

6:51:576:52:00

How about our second tarantula in here?

6:52:006:52:03

Well, this one, have a look at him. He's a red knee tarantula.

6:52:036:52:06

Ah, red knee, so red being the same colour

6:52:066:52:07

as the costume that Spider-Man wears?

6:52:076:52:09

Absolutely, and red's for danger. As we know, red's for danger.

6:52:096:52:13

-Look at him.

-He's cool.

6:52:136:52:16

He's absolutely cool. You can't really hold this one

6:52:166:52:19

because it flicks its hairs and as it's flicking its hairs,

6:52:196:52:24

those hairs are going to the back of your throat,

6:52:246:52:27

into your eyes and on your skin, makes you really itchy,

6:52:276:52:31

and the fascination with tarantulas is they can hang upside down

6:52:316:52:34

and they can hold 170 times their own body weight,

6:52:346:52:40

that's an equivalent of Spider-Man holding 170 people

6:52:406:52:45

-while hanging off a building with one arm.

-That's incredible.

6:52:456:52:47

So when you see Spider-Man has super strength,

6:52:476:52:51

that is because spiders do have super strength?

6:52:516:52:53

Super strength, absolutely.

6:52:536:52:55

Spider-man doesn't flick hairs from his bottom, though, does he?

6:52:556:52:58

-Not in this movie.

-Not in this one.

-There's bound to be a sequel.

6:52:586:53:01

Right, do you want to put him back? Let's meet the next guy,

6:53:016:53:04

cos that's a big one. Now, is it worth just leaving

6:53:046:53:07

this guy in the cage, cos he's a monster, isn't he?

6:53:076:53:10

Well, this one is a Goliath bird-eating tarantula

6:53:106:53:12

and out the three tarantulas

6:53:126:53:14

that I've brought today, this is the most aggressive

6:53:146:53:17

and that's why I'm going to leave him in the terrarium.

6:53:176:53:21

We're fine with that. You keep him exactly where he is, dude.

6:53:216:53:24

I hate to break it to you, but I can't get the lid back on the box.

6:53:246:53:26

I'm going to get you My First Jigsaw for your birthday.

6:53:266:53:29

He actually has super senses, just like Spider-man,

6:53:296:53:32

because this animal can actually sense a threat

6:53:326:53:34

and if he senses a threat, then he'll rub his hairs

6:53:346:53:37

and it makes a hissing noise.

6:53:376:53:38

So he has spider senses like the superhero himself as well?

6:53:386:53:41

This hissing noise you're talking about, he won't do it now

6:53:416:53:44

because there's no danger here, he's quite content,

6:53:446:53:46

but we have a recording of what this spider sounds like

6:53:466:53:49

when he feels threatened. Have a listen.

6:53:496:53:51

It's more like a leak, really, isn't it?

6:53:516:53:53

-Sounds like a snake.

-Like a rattlesnake. When they're scared,

6:53:536:53:56

they shake their tail to let you know.

6:53:566:53:59

To let you know danger, yes.

6:53:596:54:01

This is the largest tarantula in the world.

6:54:016:54:04

They can actually grow 12 inches, like a dinner plate,

6:54:046:54:07

just like a dinner plate, and its fangs

6:54:076:54:10

-are the same length as a cheetah's claws.

-What?!

6:54:106:54:14

-A cheetah's claws?

-A cheetah's claws.

6:54:146:54:16

You don't think that's possible from something so small, do you?

6:54:166:54:19

Well, there you have it. It's definitely true, isn't it?

6:54:196:54:22

You think about Spider-man, he's got the strongest web in the world

6:54:226:54:25

he can climb walls and... and he's as scary as...

6:54:256:54:27

Are you nervous?

6:54:276:54:29

No. It's reminding me about a frog a little bit and I don't know why.

6:54:296:54:32

I'm not nervous, but I'm a little bit itchy.

6:54:326:54:34

Joe, thank you so much

6:54:346:54:35

for introducing us to these fabulous creatures.

6:54:356:54:38

Now, this is your show, so let us know what you think.

6:54:386:54:40

We're live, get in touch.

6:54:406:54:42

The e-mail address is [email protected]

6:54:426:54:45

Maybe you have a pet spider, maybe you hate spiders,

6:54:456:54:48

and while you're in touch, let us know what your favourite book is,

6:54:486:54:51

because later on in the show,

6:54:516:54:53

Dick and Dom are going to be

6:54:536:54:55

sharing with us their favourite tale.

6:54:556:54:57

So please get in touch,

6:54:576:54:59

we'll try and read out your e-mails later in the show.

6:54:596:55:01

Now though, a few months ago, we moved our garden

6:55:016:55:04

from West London to our new home here in Greater Manchester.

6:55:046:55:06

Her Royal Highness Princess Anne came to help us open it in style,

6:55:066:55:09

but at the time our gardener, Chris Collins,

6:55:096:55:12

had a job that wasn't quite finished.

6:55:126:55:15

I've got one big job left to complete our garden -

6:55:196:55:22

the pond.

6:55:226:55:24

'I want to get some new fish and plants,

6:55:256:55:28

'but before I can do that, I need to put in some groundwork

6:55:286:55:31

'by cutting off the ugly old metal grill...' Job one done.

6:55:316:55:34

'..and replacing it with a specially designed pond cover.'

6:55:346:55:37

Look at that!

6:55:376:55:39

'All the mess from the drilling has gone straight into the water

6:55:426:55:45

'which doesn't matter as the next job is to drain the pond,

6:55:456:55:47

'and I'm doing that the good old-fashioned way.'

6:55:476:55:49

Staying remarkably dry, considering!

6:55:526:55:54

Oh, look. Money.

6:55:566:55:59

There's gold in that there water.

6:55:596:56:00

As you can see, it's also become a bit of a wishing well.

6:56:036:56:06

So if you like muddy money, this is the place to come.

6:56:066:56:09

'Now the pond's cleaned out, I'm off to the garden centre.

6:56:116:56:14

'First up, I need to choose our plants.'

6:56:146:56:16

Now, this is what you call an oxygenator.

6:56:166:56:19

It'll keep the water full of oxygen,

6:56:196:56:21

and that'll help keep our Blue Peter pond nice and healthy.

6:56:216:56:24

Now, I really do want something special and beautiful

6:56:246:56:27

for the Blue Peter pond.

6:56:276:56:28

So I've chosen the royalty of water plants, the water lily or nymphaea.

6:56:286:56:32

You could say this is going to be the princess of our pond.

6:56:326:56:35

Now they're chosen, it's time for some fish.

6:56:356:56:37

This fella here is called an arowana.

6:56:406:56:42

It's a pretty special fish, it can live for up to 20 years

6:56:426:56:46

and it's quite expensive. It costs at £2,000 to £3,000.

6:56:466:56:49

He's so special that sometimes

6:56:496:56:51

they fit them with a microchip at the back of the head

6:56:516:56:53

so if they go missing, the owner can still find them.

6:56:536:56:55

But I don't think we had enough change in the bottom of our pond

6:56:556:56:58

to afford one of these.

6:56:586:57:01

These fellas are stingrays. Very beautiful.

6:57:036:57:05

Look at the markings on that. They're actually related to sharks.

6:57:056:57:09

Now, their bodies are made entirely of cartilage, no bone at all,

6:57:096:57:12

and cartilage is the same stuff we have in the end of our noses,

6:57:126:57:15

but I'm not going to stick my hand in,

6:57:156:57:17

just in case they're in a bad mood.

6:57:176:57:18

But tropical fish wouldn't survive in our pond,

6:57:186:57:22

so I need to look at some that prefer cold water.

6:57:226:57:24

Now, everybody knows and loves a goldfish

6:57:266:57:28

and they can get really big.

6:57:286:57:30

According to the Guinness World Records,

6:57:306:57:33

the biggest one ever measured from tail to snout was 47.4 centimetres.

6:57:336:57:36

Now, I think goldfish are the goal for us.

6:57:366:57:39

I think they'll go in our pond perfectly,

6:57:396:57:41

but maybe this one is a little too big,

6:57:416:57:44

so I'm going to put him back and let him rejoin his friends.

6:57:446:57:47

There you go, fella.

6:57:486:57:50

This is perfect.

6:57:536:57:55

Just what I wanted for the Blue Peter pond.

6:57:556:57:58

Well, I'm back in the garden. I've got my fish and plants.

6:57:586:58:00

Just got to wait a while for that to fill up now, and we can get going.

6:58:006:58:04

Right, time to start planting.

6:58:046:58:06

You might have frogs and toads or newts that want to go

6:58:116:58:14

in and out the pond from time to time.

6:58:146:58:16

So what we need to is build a little corridor from land to water.

6:58:166:58:19

It's very, very simple. Well, I've got a lot of fish to put in the pond

6:58:196:58:22

-and I think I need some help, but luckily I've got...

-Chloe.

6:58:226:58:25

-Keelagh.

-Megan.

-Noah.

6:58:256:58:28

I think you should go first, Chloe,

6:58:286:58:29

and just gently put him on top of the water in the bag.

6:58:296:58:32

That's it, and you can let him go

6:58:326:58:34

and hold the back of the bag like this.

6:58:346:58:36

And let go of the front, brilliant.

6:58:366:58:38

Do you want to go next? Gently lower him in. He looks good, doesn't he?

6:58:386:58:41

Go on, then. That's it. So there you go. The first four fish in.

6:58:416:58:45

Brilliant. OK, well, thanks very much.

6:58:456:58:48

Did a brilliant job, released the fish

6:58:486:58:50

and that is our Blue Peter garden pond officially completed.

6:58:506:58:54

THEY CHEER

6:58:546:58:57

And here it is, the new look Blue Peter pond. Isn't it lovely?

6:58:576:59:01

And if you are wondering how much money was found, it's £39.96,

6:59:016:59:04

it's all in this jar and it's all going to Children In Need.

6:59:046:59:07

If you are going to visit the Blue Peter garden, by the way,

6:59:076:59:10

please don't throw any more coins in the pond

6:59:106:59:12

cos that's where the fish live now. Helen, what's still to come?

6:59:126:59:14

Well, Barney, while you make your way back into the studio,

6:59:146:59:17

I can tell you what's happening on today's show.

6:59:176:59:19

Still to come, CBBC's Dick and Dom

6:59:196:59:21

will be revealing their all-time favourite book,

6:59:216:59:25

and the UK's freestyle scooter champions

6:59:256:59:27

will be here to wow you with their slick tricks.

6:59:276:59:31

Now, if you've been watching Blue Peter's big Olympic tour

6:59:336:59:36

on Saturday mornings, you will know that Barney and I

6:59:366:59:38

have been taking on four celebrity friends

6:59:386:59:41

in a different Olympic sport each week.

6:59:416:59:43

This week we headed to the tennis courts

6:59:436:59:45

and Barney is desperate for you to see what happened.

6:59:456:59:48

Here is your host, Football Focus' Dan Walker, to give you the low-down.

6:59:486:59:52

Here are our competitors.

6:59:546:59:55

She's going from strength to strength, classical singer Laura.

6:59:556:59:59

Determined to hold on to his lead, Strictly dancer Brendan.

6:59:597:00:02

Formerly of Emmerdale, pleased there's no more cycling, it's Adele.

7:00:027:00:06

He's still super-relaxed and stylish, MC Romeo.

7:00:067:00:09

Helen's got a spring in her step after winning BMX

7:00:097:00:13

and he needs the points to stay in contention, it's Barney.

7:00:137:00:17

Athletes, hello. We've had some fun so far but it's all about to change.

7:00:177:00:20

You've been competing as men and women but the remaining events

7:00:207:00:24

are about technique rather than power

7:00:247:00:26

so you are all against each other.

7:00:267:00:28

This is how this challenge works - it's human against machine.

7:00:287:00:32

Ball machine.

7:00:327:00:35

Each player will get 20 balls fired at them

7:00:357:00:38

alternating between a forehand and backhand.

7:00:387:00:41

The aim is to return as many as they can into the court

7:00:417:00:44

where they'll score one point if it bounces in the service boxes,

7:00:447:00:47

three points for the back of the court and, if they want to go crazy,

7:00:477:00:51

five points if they get them between the tram lines.

7:00:517:00:53

And we will not let our athletes see each other,

7:00:537:00:56

so they won't know what score to beat.

7:00:567:00:58

So it's Romeo to go first and he initially found it hard

7:01:007:01:04

wasting a number of scoring opportunities.

7:01:047:01:08

Soon he found his range with some consistent forehand

7:01:087:01:11

and backhand strokes.

7:01:117:01:13

He had good length via the baseline to score a lot of three point shots

7:01:147:01:18

but no tram line five-pointers could cost him dear.

7:01:187:01:21

Brendan tried to play it safe early on but was put off his stride

7:01:237:01:26

by confusing his forehand and backhand.

7:01:267:01:28

I'm sorry. Backhand.

7:01:287:01:30

He also found the net, which made him very angry.

7:01:307:01:33

Argh!

7:01:337:01:35

He really wasn't making it easy for himself.

7:01:357:01:37

He decided to aim for the tram lines

7:01:377:01:39

to try and claw back some vital points.

7:01:397:01:42

Will it be enough to beat Romeo?

7:01:427:01:45

That was the worst performance I could have possibly done.

7:01:457:01:47

I don't believe you. I think you have nailed it.

7:01:477:01:51

Adele's turn now and she was caught out early

7:01:527:01:55

by the speed of the ball machine.

7:01:557:01:57

Some of her mishits actually ended up scoring.

7:01:577:01:59

In trying to hit the ball harder, she certainly enjoyed herself

7:01:597:02:03

but it didn't necessarily help with the points.

7:02:037:02:06

Oh, five!

7:02:067:02:07

She did find the tram lines once.

7:02:077:02:09

Will it be enough to beat the others?

7:02:097:02:12

-I cannot tell you how excited I am!

-APPLAUSE

7:02:147:02:17

Argh! That was so good!

7:02:197:02:22

-Look how excited you are!

-I can't believe it. Can't believe it.

7:02:227:02:25

Laura was up next and had an excellent start

7:02:277:02:29

scoring with her first six shots.

7:02:297:02:32

Some were also in the five points area.

7:02:327:02:35

She began to lose her rhythm halfway, through,

7:02:357:02:38

trying a bit too hard and hitting the ball too long.

7:02:387:02:40

So will her great early form be enough?

7:02:407:02:43

If you tell them you've not done well, they will think you are lying.

7:02:457:02:48

-Did I do that badly?

-No, you didn't do...

7:02:487:02:50

No, not at all, you did really well.

7:02:507:02:53

So, Barney up next

7:02:537:02:55

and a perfect start for him as he went straight for the tram lines.

7:02:557:03:00

But after hitting a few out, he decided to play it safe.

7:03:007:03:03

Some consistent scoring and good technique from Barney

7:03:057:03:08

and he certainly left no margin for error with some shots.

7:03:087:03:11

-This gives Barney a real chance.

-Is that it?

7:03:117:03:14

Look at that smile! He's got a wry smile.

7:03:147:03:17

-Yeah, he's got a little smug smile.

-Finally Barney's back on top!

7:03:177:03:21

And finally it was Helen.

7:03:217:03:23

She played it safe from the start, aiming for the middle of the court.

7:03:237:03:27

There were very few mistakes and one five point shot,

7:03:277:03:32

But a lot of her balls did drop short, losing her some vital points.

7:03:327:03:35

So will it be enough?

7:03:357:03:37

Athletes, I know you are desperate for the point revelation.

7:03:387:03:42

With one point, having scored 13,

7:03:427:03:46

it's Adele! She did enjoy it, though.

7:03:467:03:50

Two points with 28...

7:03:507:03:53

goes to Romeo.

7:03:537:03:55

33 points was enough to get Brendan three points.

7:03:567:04:00

40 points and four points...

7:04:027:04:04

go to Laura.

7:04:047:04:06

OK, so, 45 score,

7:04:077:04:10

five points go to...

7:04:107:04:12

Helen Skelton...

7:04:127:04:15

-ALL CHEER

-..which means...

7:04:157:04:18

Barney, 53, six points!

7:04:187:04:21

Celebratory dance! Can I just say? The reason I'm so excited -

7:04:277:04:30

the only thing I've ever won is a darts competition.

7:04:307:04:33

That's cos I was playing against my five-year-old sister

7:04:337:04:35

who couldn't reach the board.

7:04:357:04:36

I get cross with him because he gets too harsh on himself.

7:04:367:04:39

You are back in the game, we're back in the competition Barney.

7:04:397:04:42

Thank you very much. How's that affected the leaderboard?

7:04:427:04:44

Well, Brendan's still out in front. He's in gold position,

7:04:447:04:47

Helen and Laura are in silver position, Romeo is in bronze,

7:04:477:04:50

I've moved up a little bit. It's all to play for -

7:04:507:04:52

three more challenges to go. ..Ow.

7:04:527:04:53

-It's not over till it's over.

-True dat.

7:04:537:04:55

So make sure you check out Blue Peter's big Olympic tour,

7:04:557:04:57

it continues on Saturday at nine o'clock.

7:04:577:05:00

-I'm really too competitive, aren't I?

-A little bit.

7:05:007:05:02

From 10am on Saturday morning, we open our gates

7:05:027:05:05

and invite you to a free event. You don't need a ticket,

7:05:057:05:08

so come along and see us if you are in Essex.

7:05:087:05:11

We'll be in Saffron Walden.

7:05:117:05:12

Can we talk about the torch a little bit?

7:05:127:05:14

You carried it last week, it's very exciting.

7:05:147:05:16

Yes, we can show you exactly what happened

7:05:167:05:18

when I carried the torch in Wolverhampton.

7:05:187:05:20

Wolverhampton, thank you for your support. They adopted me.

7:05:207:05:23

Everybody would, it's your smiley face.

7:05:237:05:25

Let's talk about the summer. Let's talk about what you'll be doing.

7:05:257:05:27

I have a picture in my head that you will be relaxing,

7:05:277:05:30

sitting in your garden on a deckchair like this,

7:05:307:05:33

reading your favourite book and earlier,

7:05:337:05:34

we asked you to get in touch and talk about your favourite book.

7:05:347:05:37

You have been doing that, thank you very much.

7:05:377:05:39

Megan got in touch.

7:05:397:05:40

That's the first time

7:05:407:05:41

Barney's ever done that,

7:05:417:05:43

climbed all the way up himself.

7:05:437:05:44

See, we're all achieving something today, everybody.

7:05:447:05:46

Megan, who is seven, loves Matilda, that's her favourite book.

7:05:467:05:50

"The best bit is when Miss Honey

7:05:507:05:52

"tells Matilda that Mrs Trunchbull is her auntie."

7:05:527:05:55

I love Matilda. Good one.

7:05:557:05:56

Meg's favourite book is the Hunger Games

7:05:567:05:58

because you never know what is going to happen.

7:05:587:06:00

It's a bit scary, though, isn't it? Harriet, who's ten, says,

7:06:007:06:03

"My favourite book is the Jane Blonde series

7:06:037:06:05

"because I love all the spying in it."

7:06:057:06:07

Will says, "My favourite book is How To Train Your Dragon

7:06:077:06:10

"cos it's really funny." Wouldn't it be great if you had a dragon?

7:06:107:06:13

Now, some great recommendations there.

7:06:147:06:16

If you're going on holiday,

7:06:167:06:17

you might want to pick up a few of those.

7:06:177:06:20

The reason we're talking about books is because last year,

7:06:207:06:22

780,000 of you got involved in a reading project

7:06:227:06:24

that saw three million books be read.

7:06:247:06:26

This year, the project is called Story Lab

7:06:267:06:29

and we're hoping that you are going to get involved with it.

7:06:297:06:31

You might have heard about it in your school or your local library.

7:06:317:06:34

This is the Story Lab. It's a big flat piece of card

7:06:347:06:37

that's got stories all over it that you can turn into a 3D laboratory.

7:06:377:06:40

And if you look on the outside of it,

7:06:407:06:42

it's got various stories and cartoons and animations

7:06:427:06:44

but there are certain squares that are missing.

7:06:447:06:46

You need to fill them in and make those colourful

7:06:467:06:49

by adding stickers to them and you can do that by reading books.

7:06:497:06:51

The challenge is to read six over the summer.

7:06:517:06:53

If you read two, you'll get a bronze sticker. ..Don't you dare do

7:06:537:06:56

-what I think you are about to do!

-I know!

7:06:567:06:59

Silver is if you read four books and gold is if you read six or more.

7:06:597:07:05

And once you've completed all those, stick your stickers on here

7:07:057:07:08

take them into your library and they'll exchange these for these.

7:07:087:07:11

A medal or a certificate.

7:07:117:07:13

So if you read all the books, you will get your hands on one of those.

7:07:137:07:16

We're really hoping you'll get involved.

7:07:167:07:18

It doesn't matter if you don't like the books, just pass it to a friend

7:07:187:07:21

and pick up another. It's all about reading.

7:07:217:07:23

Go to the website...

7:07:237:07:24

..or just pop down to your local library for your Story Lab kit.

7:07:257:07:29

Now, though, it's time for Dick and Dom.

7:07:297:07:31

-You love this bit, don't you?

-Because it's my favourite story.

7:07:317:07:34

Basically, we're going to try and smash

7:07:347:07:36

how many people got involved last year, it was 750,000.

7:07:367:07:38

-We want more involved. Here, Dick and Dom...

-The dog's going to wee!

7:07:387:07:41

..talk about their favourite story, George's Marvellous Medicine -

7:07:417:07:44

-with a very strange grandma. What's he doing?

-Not here!

7:07:447:07:46

I mean, normally grandmas are lovely and sweet and kind

7:07:517:07:55

-and smell of pretty flowers, don't they?

-Here.

7:07:557:07:58

Yeah. Well, not in this book.

7:07:587:08:02

I mean, this gran is 100% the opposite.

7:08:027:08:04

She shouts, she bullies, she eats slugs.

7:08:047:08:07

She's got one of those puckered-up mouths that never smiles.

7:08:077:08:11

Who'd want a grandma like that?

7:08:117:08:13

Well, this lad George, yeah? He's got no choice.

7:08:137:08:15

That horrible crinkly old bag is so horrible to him!

7:08:157:08:19

-Until George comes up with a secret plan.

-Exactly.

7:08:197:08:22

And that's what this book is all about.

7:08:227:08:26

Every day George's grandma has to take a special medicine

7:08:267:08:29

so George decides to make her a brand-new medicine,

7:08:297:08:31

so he runs around the farm where he lives,

7:08:317:08:34

finding all sorts of weird ingredients.

7:08:347:08:36

Yeah. Rotten banana skins, shoe polish.

7:08:367:08:39

Shampoo. Extra hot chilli sauce - oh!

7:08:417:08:44

Them!

7:08:457:08:47

MIXTURE POPS

7:08:477:08:49

And he makes a brand-new mixture that he hopes will give his grandma

7:08:497:08:53

a big whopper of a surprise.

7:08:537:08:55

Can you smell something funny?

7:08:567:08:58

-Oh!

-Urgh.

7:08:587:08:59

You can really tell that the writer, Roald Dahl, is on George's side.

7:09:077:09:11

This is one of my favourite parts of the book.

7:09:117:09:13

"What mischief are you up to in there now?" Granny screeched.

7:09:137:09:17

"I hear noises!"

7:09:177:09:19

George thought it best not to answer this one,

7:09:197:09:22

he found a long wooden spoon in a kitchen drawer

7:09:227:09:24

and began stirring hard.

7:09:247:09:26

The stuff in the pot got hotter and hotter.

7:09:267:09:30

Soon, George started to get really excited about his wonderful mixture.

7:09:307:09:35

And suddenly, George found himself dancing around the steaming pot

7:09:367:09:40

chanting strange words that came into his head out of nowhere.

7:09:407:09:44

"Fiery broth and witch's brew, foamy froth and riches blue,

7:09:447:09:49

"fume and spume and spoondrift spray, fizzle, swizzle, shout hurray!

7:09:497:09:55

"Watch it sloshing, squashing, sploshing,

7:09:557:09:57

"hear it hissing, squishing and spitting,

7:09:577:10:00

"Grandma better start to pray."

7:10:007:10:02

Of course, if you want to know more, you'll have to read the book.

7:10:157:10:20

Hang on. Where is the book?

7:10:207:10:22

DICK CHOKES AND SPLUTTERS

7:10:227:10:25

Oh, no.

7:10:257:10:27

-It's amazing!

-I know the book's amazing.

7:10:287:10:32

-It's mind-blowing!

-I know the book is mind-blowing.

7:10:327:10:35

But now it's covered in goop.

7:10:357:10:38

A bit more salt.

7:10:477:10:49

Yeah, salt.

7:10:497:10:50

Thank you very much to Dick and Dom.

7:10:537:10:55

Next week, Kieron Richardson from Hollyoaks

7:10:557:10:58

is going to be sharing his favourite book.

7:10:587:11:00

Now Barney - where's he gone now? He's gone again.

7:11:007:11:04

As you can see, I've come back outside the studio

7:11:047:11:06

on this glorious sunny day to see something very cool happening.

7:11:067:11:09

This is freestyle scooter-riding.

7:11:097:11:12

This is Josh who's showing us what he can do at the moment.

7:11:127:11:14

Josh, when you get a chance, pop over here. Hello, mate.

7:11:147:11:17

-You all right?

-I'm very good, this is exciting to watch.

7:11:177:11:19

-You are a freestyle scooter rider?

-Yeah.

7:11:197:11:21

How does the freestyle part work?

7:11:217:11:23

The freestyle part is basically getting on the scooter

7:11:237:11:26

and doing different tricks and stunts.

7:11:267:11:28

The thing about a scooter is, you've got handlebars and the deck

7:11:287:11:33

so that means you can take tricks from a BMX, like bar spins,

7:11:337:11:36

and from skate-boarding you can take board slides too,

7:11:367:11:39

if you have stunt pegs and stuff,

7:11:397:11:42

so you can do different grinds and stalls.

7:11:427:11:44

And also a lot of the tricks and stuff we've invented ourselves,

7:11:447:11:49

such as being able to flip the scooter and do bar twists and stuff.

7:11:497:11:53

And once you have gone from being a solo rider who learns those tricks,

7:11:537:11:56

-you then put it together as part of a team?

-Yeah.

7:11:567:11:58

How did Team Razor come about?

7:11:587:12:00

Well, Team Razor kind of started in America at first

7:12:007:12:03

and it was a small little group of riders.

7:12:037:12:06

And as soon as they started making more scooters

7:12:067:12:09

and getting their name out there,

7:12:097:12:11

they decided to make a team in the UK

7:12:117:12:13

and we were all picked to be part of the UK team,

7:12:137:12:15

and do jams, demos and that sort of thing.

7:12:157:12:17

Nice one. Josh, thank you very much for now.

7:12:177:12:20

Off you go back to your stuff. Here comes Lewis down the ramp.

7:12:207:12:23

Lewis is very experienced, been doing it for a long time.

7:12:237:12:25

You started a while ago,

7:12:257:12:26

but it started with a funny circumstance, didn't it?

7:12:267:12:29

Yeah, it was a complete accident.

7:12:297:12:31

I was in a car accident and broke my leg quite seriously,

7:12:317:12:35

so it was broken for a long time, and I was 11 years old, so...

7:12:357:12:39

Whoa! That was definitely worth a round of applause.

7:12:397:12:41

That was amazing, well done.

7:12:417:12:43

So really, it started from an accident

7:12:437:12:45

but here you are all these years later performing.

7:12:457:12:48

Yeah, I got too bored of crutches. I wanted to do something more active,

7:12:487:12:51

-so I got on a scooter to get around.

-What a great idea -

7:12:517:12:54

rather than using crutches and being all boring, get yourself a scooter.

7:12:547:12:58

Fantastic. Thank you very much.

7:12:587:12:59

I'm going to call Nat in now, who's also had an injury on a scooter.

7:12:597:13:02

-You're still suffering a little bit, aren't you?

-Yeah.

7:13:027:13:05

I am, yeah. On the road to recovery at the moment.

7:13:057:13:07

-Doctor said ten weeks?

-Yeah.

-What did you do?

7:13:077:13:09

I broke my ankle in three places.

7:13:097:13:11

So it wasn't that nice, but surviving.

7:13:117:13:13

Well, don't go back to those places.

7:13:137:13:15

We wish you all the best on the road to recovery.

7:13:157:13:17

Now, show me how to do something cos I'm dying to have a go.

7:13:177:13:20

As you can see, I'm sporting this year's latest safety fashion.

7:13:207:13:23

-Right, I'll show you how to do a bunny hop.

-Bunny hop, what is that?

7:13:237:13:27

It's where you basically just jump in the air.

7:13:277:13:30

You've just got to get a bit of speed, pull up on the bars,

7:13:307:13:32

jump in the air and land with both feet still on the deck.

7:13:327:13:35

So both wheels come off the floor, not like a wheelie, then?

7:13:357:13:38

-Yeah.

-All right, well, do you want to show me first?

-Sure.

7:13:387:13:42

Just like that. OK. Dead easy.

7:13:427:13:44

That was rubbish, I'm doing that again.

7:13:477:13:50

Right. Here we go.

7:13:517:13:55

Oh, so close!

7:13:567:13:59

I could be here all day doing this but the experts are just to my left

7:13:597:14:02

so let's hand over now to what is probably the most impressive thing

7:14:027:14:05

I think I've seen on the show for a while. Team Razor.

7:14:057:14:07

That was absolutely unbelievable.

7:14:427:14:44

Congratulations, Razor, and thank you very much for coming along.

7:14:447:14:48

Barney and I had to stay inside because somebody barks at scooters.

7:14:487:14:51

And it's not me, is it? So we had to miss out on that one.

7:14:517:14:54

Now, throughout the show, we have been asking you to get in touch

7:14:547:14:58

and let us know what your favourite book is.

7:14:587:15:00

Scarlett said that her favourite book

7:15:007:15:01

is the Magic Far Away Tree because it's exciting

7:15:017:15:04

and the children go to different lands in each chapter.

7:15:047:15:06

-Oh, hello, scooter boy.

-Hello. How are you doing?

7:15:067:15:09

Katie says, "My favourite is the Chocolate Box Girls set.

7:15:097:15:12

"I've read the Cherry Crush and the Marshmallow Skye

7:15:127:15:14

"and can't wait for the rest."

7:15:147:15:15

How amazing was that? Shame you couldn't be there.

7:15:157:15:17

Last time you were barking at the scooters.

7:15:177:15:19

Sam thought the spiders were interesting but scary

7:15:197:15:21

at the same time, especially because they're poisonous.

7:15:217:15:24

Jemima likes Harry Potter as it's action-packed and epic.

7:15:247:15:27

Mia likes Diary Of A Wimpy Kid.

7:15:277:15:30

Jessica, Amy and Florence - we love you - it says,

7:15:307:15:33

Thanks very much. You can let us know whatever you're thinking.

I'm not sure there are many spider fans out there.

7:15:387:15:40

Katie's been in touch to say,

7:15:407:15:42

"Those spiders made me shiver - I hate them,"

7:15:427:15:44

and Eve says that those spiders were terrifying,

7:15:447:15:46

"I don't mind bath spiders but those ones made me jump off my seat."

7:15:467:15:50

-Sorry about that, Eve.

-Right, let's talk about perspective photography.

7:15:507:15:53

We spoke about this last week.

7:15:537:15:54

It's an amazing technique and many people have got involved.

7:15:547:15:57

Jack, Luke and Oliver have created this in their back garden.

7:15:577:16:00

How amazing is that? Love it. We've got to fly through these.

7:16:007:16:02

Ursula and Toby, fantastic shot.

7:16:027:16:04

A look at the consequences of explosive beans there.

7:16:047:16:06

Ellie and Anna. Love it.

7:16:067:16:10

This is such clever stuff and this one happens to be my favourite.

7:16:107:16:13

This is Lucy and Milly from Guildford,

7:16:137:16:15

this is a girl on the plank, look at that.

7:16:157:16:17

So many more photos on the website if you want to have a look at them

7:16:177:16:20

-and please send us some more.

-We do love seeing your efforts.

7:16:207:16:22

Thank you very much. That's almost it for today's show.

7:16:227:16:25

There's just time to tell you what is coming up next week.

7:16:257:16:27

We're going to be revealing the winner

7:16:277:16:30

of our Blue Peter plane competition. Is it your name and design?

7:16:307:16:33

Well, you'll have to watch next week to find out.

7:16:337:16:35

And we teach you how to get crafty with a glove.

7:16:357:16:39

I do love that, that was such fun make.

7:16:397:16:41

You're going to love trying that at home.

7:16:417:16:43

We're back in Saffron Walden on Saturday at nine for the live show.

7:16:437:16:46

-Come and see us and have a good week. Bye.
