The 2014 Winter Olympics kicks off tomorrow

7:30:257:30:27

so today we're celebrating all things sporty and wintry.

7:30:277:30:31

You'll find out if I've got what it takes to control

7:30:317:30:33

a beast of a snow machine.

7:30:337:30:34

We'll show you how to make these medals,

7:30:347:30:36

which are so good, you're going to want to eat them.

7:30:367:30:39

Would you through yourself headfirst down an icy chute

7:30:397:30:41

on a tray at 60mph?

7:30:417:30:44

He did. Find out why.

7:30:447:30:45

It's coming up live on today's Blue Peter.

7:30:457:30:47

MUSIC: "Blue Peter Theme"

7:30:477:30:49

Yes, the ship has officially set sail. This is a live show.

7:31:077:31:10

Hi, how are you? Hello you two, how are you doing?

7:31:107:31:12

-Who are you talking to, Barney?

-Did I not tell you?

-No.

7:31:127:31:15

-I can see into people's homes.

-In there?

7:31:157:31:17

-Just by looking through the TV.

-Oh, right. Hi!

7:31:177:31:20

What about the girl having her tea over there as well?

7:31:207:31:23

-How are you?

-Looks yummy.

7:31:237:31:25

We are really excited in the Blue Peter studio because, of course,

7:31:257:31:28

it is the Winter Olympics,

7:31:287:31:30

so we're going to be linking up with

7:31:307:31:32

Sochi in Russia to find out just how Team GB are doing

7:31:327:31:35

ahead of the Winter Olympics tomorrow.

7:31:357:31:39

We will speak to my good friend Tim Warwood.

7:31:397:31:41

He's not just a man famous for CBBC presenting.

7:31:417:31:44

No, he is a former British snowboard champion. He is so talented.

7:31:447:31:48

He'll join us from the slopes

7:31:487:31:50

of a brand-new winter sport called snowboard, no...

7:31:507:31:52

snowboard slopestyle.

7:31:527:31:54

It's that new, we don't even know it ourselves!

7:31:547:31:57

The reason we've picked up on this is,

7:31:577:31:58

not only is it difficult to say,

7:31:587:32:00

it's also a great idea to get you involved

7:32:007:32:02

and design your own brand-new Winter Olympics sport.

7:32:027:32:04

What would it be? I'm thinking something like skiing and dancing.

7:32:047:32:08

"Scancing". It goes a little bit like this.

7:32:087:32:12

# Every day I'm shuffling. #

7:32:127:32:17

That's how cool I am.

7:32:177:32:19

I would probably choose

7:32:197:32:20

something like whitewater rafting over a frozen river.

7:32:207:32:23

-Ridiculous speed.

-Dangerous as well.

7:32:237:32:26

I would go for rubber ring ice jumping

7:32:267:32:28

because you sit in a rubber ring

7:32:287:32:30

and see how far you can glide and jump on the ice.

7:32:307:32:32

Everything is difficult to say on today's show, have you noticed?

7:32:327:32:35

-It's because we are cold.

-What would you invent?

7:32:357:32:37

A brand-new Winter Olympic sport.

7:32:377:32:40

Please get in touch.

7:32:407:32:41

We will read your suggestions out

7:32:417:32:43

later in the show.

7:32:437:32:45

If Lindsey's idea

7:32:457:32:46

was ever to come into fruition,

7:32:467:32:47

you'd need a really cool snow park in which to compete.

7:32:477:32:51

I've been lucky enough to go to such a place. Location, Austria.

7:32:517:32:55

The Stubai Glacier - some of Team GB even train there

7:32:557:32:59

and the slopes and jumps are pristine.

7:32:597:33:02

In order to get that, you will need a monster snow machine.

7:33:027:33:07

Welcome to the top of the Stubai Flacier,

7:33:107:33:12

3,210 metres above sea level.

7:33:127:33:16

Every year, millions of people head to snow parks,

7:33:167:33:20

like the one on top of this glacier, to have some wintry fun.

7:33:207:33:24

But behind every good snow park lies an army of these mighty machines.

7:33:257:33:29

They're called piste bashers. They are seriously powerful pieces of kit.

7:33:297:33:36

Their job is to help level snow

7:33:367:33:37

and create smooth surfaces for skiing and snowboarding.

7:33:377:33:42

But piste bashers also have another job, to create ski jumps like this!

7:33:447:33:50

I have been so lucky

7:33:567:33:57

because we have been given our own corner of the piste

7:33:577:34:01

and they are letting me make my own baby jump. Wish me luck!

7:34:017:34:07

This is by far the biggest machine I have ever been in charge of

7:34:077:34:11

and that means I need an expert co-driver.

7:34:117:34:13

Mattias, what do I need to do?

7:34:137:34:15

-You need this to stick and you can turn around here.

-OK.

7:34:177:34:22

A little bit more gas.

7:34:227:34:25

Yeah, fine.

7:34:267:34:29

We're indestructible!

7:34:297:34:31

Now, it's all very well driving around in circles,

7:34:347:34:37

but this isn't making a snow jump, so what next?

7:34:377:34:40

Now you can take it this way.

7:34:407:34:44

You can pull it down and you can take it slowly with you.

7:34:447:34:49

OK, we have lowered the snow.

7:34:497:34:52

-Here we go!

-Very good!

7:34:557:34:56

This piste basher really is a beast.

7:34:587:35:01

It has the power of 450 horses

7:35:017:35:04

and weighs the same as a double-decker bus.

7:35:047:35:07

It can deal with almost any condition the mountain can throw at it.

7:35:077:35:12

What's become really apparent

7:35:127:35:14

is that having only driven it for a little bit

7:35:147:35:17

and tried to lower the spade,

7:35:177:35:19

Mattias is constantly adjusting the lever because, actually,

7:35:197:35:22

the spade does not go down level, you can slightly tilt it,

7:35:227:35:27

and that's because obviously the mountain is not completely flat,

7:35:277:35:30

is not perfectly straight.

7:35:307:35:32

The skill involved in this,

7:35:327:35:33

it's not just a case of pushing a load of snow,

7:35:337:35:36

there are so many minor adjustments that he is making.

7:35:367:35:39

I've got a lot to learn.

7:35:397:35:40

Ski jumps are the big thing in winter sports at the moment.

7:35:417:35:45

In fact, at the Sochi Winter Olympics, athletes will,

7:35:457:35:48

for the very first time, compete in a sport called slopestyle.

7:35:487:35:54

# Fly high, let me go. #

7:35:547:36:02

Slopestyle sees competitors tackle jumps and obstacles like these,

7:36:027:36:05

to attempt the most difficult tricks and moves possible.

7:36:057:36:10

Great Britain has genuine medal hopes in the sport,

7:36:147:36:18

through Jenny Jones in the women's competition

7:36:187:36:21

and James Woods in the men's.

7:36:217:36:25

Wow! When else would I get to drive a snow basher?

7:36:257:36:27

Check out our motorway of snow and we have made this. Look at it!

7:36:277:36:32

It's a mountain of snow!

7:36:327:36:35

That's only part of the process.

7:36:357:36:37

Creating the perfect jump now needs some expert crafting

7:36:377:36:40

and that's where snow shapers Manuel and Bernie come in.

7:36:407:36:45

Fantastic job, what can I do to help with the finishing touches?

7:36:467:36:50

You can get a shovel. Try to make the snow here in front compact.

7:36:507:36:57

That is the point where the rider is going to jump over.

7:36:577:37:00

Shapers like Bernie and Manuel are in high demand.

7:37:007:37:05

During the ski season, they will tour the ski parks of the world,

7:37:057:37:08

building top-class jumps like these.

7:37:087:37:12

The Sochi Winter Olympics are just around the corner.

7:37:147:37:17

How much detail would go into building those jumps?

7:37:177:37:20

They need to be perfect. It is a world jumping competition,

7:37:207:37:25

a really important competition. Everything has to be perfect.

7:37:257:37:29

Lots of sculpting later and our mini jump is about there.

7:37:297:37:33

We finished the ramp and all we need is somebody to try it.

7:37:337:37:37

I can't ski.

7:37:377:37:39

But I know someone that can.

7:37:397:37:42

Paddy Graham, nicknamed "Legs of Steel",

7:37:437:37:46

is one of Britain's top three skiers.

7:37:467:37:49

He's just the man to try out my jump.

7:37:517:37:54

Yes, how cool is that!

7:37:577:38:01

Not a bad day at the office!

7:38:037:38:05

-Radzi, that was a mammoth machine.

-It was like a tank on snow.

7:38:077:38:12

-It is unreal. What a day!

-I don't know how you did that.

7:38:127:38:14

Now, something we are really excited about in the Blue Peter studio.

7:38:147:38:18

Of course, the start of the Winter Olympics tomorrow

7:38:187:38:20

in the Russian city of Sochi.

7:38:207:38:22

We've even got a map to show you because Russia is a huge country

7:38:227:38:25

and if you look down at the bottom left, you can just see Sochi.

7:38:257:38:29

We are now going to speak to a man who is a CBBC Wild presenter.

7:38:297:38:33

This man is so awesome, he has "woo" in his name.

7:38:337:38:37

Tim Warwood, how are you, sir?

7:38:377:38:39

I am absolutely amazing. Look at this place!

7:38:417:38:45

It has been incredible so far.

7:38:457:38:48

The sun is shining but don't let that lie to you

7:38:487:38:51

because it is actually freezing cold here.

7:38:517:38:53

We are amped here, you must be excited off the charts.

7:38:537:38:56

-What are you getting up to?

-Would you believe it?

7:38:567:38:59

I used to be a professional snowboarder but now,

7:38:597:39:01

because I'm not very good at snowboarding any more,

7:39:017:39:03

I'm behind the microphone and I'm doing the commentary

7:39:037:39:06

for BBC Sport for the snowboarding and freestyle skiing.

7:39:067:39:10

You can probably see behind me here,

7:39:107:39:12

practice is happening as we speak, you can see the riders coming over.

7:39:127:39:15

It's ladies practice. And you can see...

7:39:157:39:17

And, oh, what a beautiful frontside 360 there.

7:39:177:39:20

I'm not quite sure who it is but that is a long way away.

7:39:207:39:24

There, into a nice backside 360.

7:39:247:39:27

So, women's practice happening right here.

7:39:277:39:30

Never mind the qualifications

7:39:307:39:32

because Jamie Nicholls has already made it into the final,

7:39:327:39:36

so how good is that?

7:39:367:39:37

It was the men's earlier on

7:39:377:39:38

and Jamie made it straight through to the finals.

7:39:387:39:40

Billy Morgan put down a really good show for the men's

7:39:407:39:43

so Team GB, at the moment, doing very well indeed.

7:39:437:39:46

We're feeling proud in the studio here.

7:39:467:39:49

That's a new sport called slopestyle so can you tell us

7:39:497:39:52

a little bit about that, Tim.

7:39:527:39:53

Slopestyle is a brand-new sport

7:39:557:39:57

and it's essentially a skate park but on a hill.

7:39:577:40:00

So at the top of the course, you've got three rail sections.

7:40:007:40:03

And then after the three rail sections,

7:40:037:40:05

you've got these three big jumps.

7:40:057:40:07

And the riders come down

7:40:077:40:08

and they do loads of tricks on the boxes and the rails,

7:40:087:40:10

and then they do three big tricks over the jumps

7:40:107:40:13

and get some, pretty much, sweet air, to be honest.

7:40:137:40:16

Jenny Jones has been doing really well for the girls.

7:40:167:40:18

She's a snowboarder that thrives well under these conditions,

7:40:187:40:21

on these big jumps.

7:40:217:40:22

And she did really well earlier on, in her heat.

7:40:227:40:24

And actually skiing slopestyle is also in the Olympics

7:40:247:40:27

and we've got one of the favourites for the men,

7:40:277:40:29

we've got Mr James Woods.

7:40:297:40:30

And he is going to be throwing down on that course.

7:40:307:40:33

Again, another rider that loves these big conditions.

7:40:337:40:35

So expect a lot from Woodsy.

7:40:357:40:37

Tim, I didn't know a lot about it before.

7:40:377:40:39

You've convinced me. I'm going to be tuning in, my friend.

7:40:397:40:42

Now, there are other sports as well where Britain have medal hopes,

7:40:427:40:45

like Elise Christie in the speed skating.

7:40:457:40:47

How much of a chance have people like her got?

7:40:477:40:49

Oh, absolutely. I mean, she won a bronze medal not too long ago.

7:40:517:40:54

Team GB are positively frothing at her prospects.

7:40:547:40:57

That's actually going to be happening down in the ice skating arena,

7:40:577:41:00

which is down the coast there, Adler...or Sochi.

7:41:007:41:04

But we're up here in the mountains.

7:41:047:41:05

And this is the mountain arena up here.

7:41:057:41:07

You can see the freestyle section.

7:41:077:41:09

But as you look across the mountains,

7:41:097:41:11

you can see where the Boardercross course is going to be.

7:41:117:41:13

Then we've got the moguls at the top.

7:41:137:41:15

And then you might just be able to make out the top of the halfpipe.

7:41:157:41:18

And then sprawled, positively looming over the mountain there

7:41:187:41:22

is the down hill course for the alpine skiing.

7:41:227:41:25

And let me tell you something, if, well,

7:41:257:41:27

the steepness is anything to go by, it's going to be pretty crazy indeed.

7:41:277:41:31

Tim, thank you so much for joining us in the studio.

7:41:317:41:34

I hope you have the absolute time of your life out there.

7:41:347:41:37

You deserve it. It's been an absolute pleasure.

7:41:377:41:40

Well, thank you very much. It's been a pleasure.

7:41:407:41:42

Thanks for having me on. Radzi, Lindsey, you guys take care.

7:41:427:41:45

And enjoy the Winter Olympics. Make sure you tune in.

7:41:457:41:47

-Will do. Bye-bye, Tim.

-Bye-bye! We definitely will be tuning in.

7:41:477:41:51

That looks so exciting and we're very jealous.

7:41:517:41:53

And remember, if you head to our website...

7:41:537:41:56

you can check out some exclusive interviews we've got

7:41:567:41:59

with Billy Morgan and Katie Summerhayes.

7:41:597:42:02

And we even got to see Billy Morgan in action. Have a look at this.

7:42:027:42:05

MUSIC: "Unbelievable" by EMF

7:42:057:42:10

My question is from navybluetinypuffin,

7:42:107:42:12

"What goes through your mind when you go over the big jumps and ramps?

7:42:127:42:16

"It must be scary."

7:42:167:42:17

Yeah, it is quite scary, for sure.

7:42:177:42:19

You kind of get used to it,

7:42:197:42:20

the more and more snowboarding you're doing.

7:42:207:42:22

You start off on the small ones and move up to the big ones.

7:42:227:42:24

It's all fun in the end, really.

7:42:247:42:27

And there is plenty more where that came from.

7:42:277:42:29

So make sure you head to the website after the show and check it out.

7:42:297:42:32

Over to you, Radzi.

7:42:327:42:33

Lindsey, I am so excited!

7:42:337:42:36

Good luck to all of our hopefuls.

7:42:367:42:37

Now, one Olympic sport which we haven't spoken about

7:42:377:42:40

is actually quite dear to my heart.

7:42:407:42:42

It involves this.

7:42:427:42:44

Now, this is not what you might think it is.

7:42:447:42:46

It's not a sledge you'd slide down a snowy hill.

7:42:467:42:48

In fact, it's a sledge that you lie on

7:42:487:42:51

and you slide headfirst down an icy track

7:42:517:42:54

at speeds of well over 60mph.

7:42:547:42:56

It feels the most extreme water slide

7:42:567:42:58

you've ever been on, in your life.

7:42:587:43:00

It's called skeleton bobsleigh

7:43:007:43:02

and I love it.

7:43:027:43:03

Oh, my goodness! My heart is absolutely pounding.

7:43:057:43:09

Ah...

7:43:097:43:11

And it's this that's got my blood pumping.

7:43:117:43:14

I've just hurtled headfirst down an icy skeleton bob track.

7:43:147:43:18

Skeleton is one of the fastest and most exciting sports

7:43:197:43:24

in the Winter Olympics.

7:43:247:43:26

And when I was a student, I had ambitions of becoming a top slider.

7:43:267:43:29

But I haven't been near a track for three years.

7:43:297:43:33

So to help me realise my dream of sliding on ice,

7:43:337:43:36

World Champion Shelley Rudman is taking me back to basics.

7:43:367:43:41

Let me just show you. If you're going to lift your head up,

7:43:417:43:43

it'd be like that. Feet up a bit higher.

7:43:437:43:45

-Hold on really tight.

-OK.

-It's a bit wet today

7:43:457:43:47

-so it might be a bit slippy as well.

-OK.

7:43:477:43:50

I'm definitely a bit rusty

7:43:537:43:55

but I've still got some of the noisiest skeleton skills!

7:43:557:43:58

-HE WAILS

-After my training,

7:43:587:44:00

I asked Shelley for some top tips.

7:44:007:44:02

For anyone who doesn't know what skeleton is, what exactly is it?

7:44:027:44:05

Skeleton bobsleigh is where you race headfirst, on your front,

7:44:057:44:10

on a sled, down ice chutes.

7:44:107:44:12

-And how fast do you go?

-You can go up to about 85mph.

7:44:127:44:16

There aren't any brakes, so you can't stop.

7:44:187:44:21

You could drag your feet to slow you down

7:44:217:44:23

but that's not advisable.

7:44:237:44:24

And the curves coming up are coming at you quite quickly.

7:44:247:44:28

And you start to almost navigate them instinctively.

7:44:287:44:31

The first time is really unusual, though. So it's...

7:44:317:44:34

It's very breathtaking and it's a unique experience.

7:44:347:44:38

'4.99! That's a tremendous start from Shelley Rudman.'

7:44:387:44:43

What do you think it takes to be world-class at skeleton?

7:44:437:44:46

I think you have to have a really good instinct.

7:44:467:44:48

You need really good spatial awareness.

7:44:487:44:50

You need to be quite strong, quick, powerful.

7:44:507:44:53

And all of those components can make you

7:44:537:44:55

the start of a good athlete.

7:44:557:44:57

And if you are, say, ten years old perhaps, at home, thinking,

7:44:577:45:00

"Skeleton looks brilliant!"

7:45:007:45:01

Perhaps you see it at the Olympics and want to get involved,

7:45:017:45:04

what advice would you have?

7:45:047:45:05

Try lots of different sport.

7:45:057:45:07

So speed sports, maybe balance sports,

7:45:077:45:10

and try and build up their abilities that way.

7:45:107:45:12

So lots of transferrable skills from other sports

7:45:127:45:14

-that could in the future help you with skeleton?

-Exactly, yeah.

7:45:147:45:16

'This is going to be good from Shelley Rudman.

7:45:167:45:19

'She will go into the lead, surely.

7:45:197:45:20

'Big hit there but it doesn't matter,

7:45:207:45:23

'she's in first place.'

7:45:237:45:24

-Shelley, thanks so much for joining us.

-Thank you.

7:45:247:45:26

-And good luck for the rest of the season.

-Thank you.

7:45:267:45:29

But my challenge isn't to TALK about skeleton.

7:45:297:45:31

So I'm heading to Igls Sliding Centre

7:45:317:45:33

in Innsbruck, Austria,

7:45:337:45:35

to link up with Team GB's development squad

7:45:357:45:38

and make a high-speed run down the world-famous track.

7:45:387:45:41

But before I'm allowed to slide, skeleton ice coach Mark Wood

7:45:437:45:46

wants me to take in each bend and bump of the track

7:45:467:45:50

and some important safety advice.

7:45:507:45:52

You'll feel these little waves, nothing to worry about.

7:45:527:45:55

You're going to feel it want to go.

7:45:577:45:58

-That's OK, don't worry about it.

-OK.

-It's fine.

7:45:587:46:02

Just making you aware of what could possibly go wrong.

7:46:027:46:04

-There's a lot could possibly go right, as well.

-Yeah,

7:46:047:46:06

I appreciate that.

7:46:067:46:08

One of Mark's coaching techniques

7:46:087:46:10

is to encourage sliders to visualise the course in their minds,

7:46:107:46:13

helping commit every twist and turn to memory.

7:46:137:46:16

Big corner two...

7:46:177:46:19

down, almost immediately into three.

7:46:197:46:23

-Feel the first pressure, shoulder down.

-Yeah.

7:46:237:46:26

-Release as the shade comes off.

-Yeah.

7:46:267:46:28

Squeeze this pressure and then just let it come out.

7:46:287:46:31

This is the major area.

7:46:317:46:33

The key to get through.. down the track is right here.

7:46:337:46:38

If I'm going to come off my sled,

7:46:387:46:39

it'll probably happen here -

7:46:397:46:41

corner nine.

7:46:417:46:43

You've got to try and keep hold of the sled.

7:46:447:46:47

If you lose the sled, push it away from you and then keep tight in.

7:46:477:46:51

The reason we're pushing the sled away from us

7:46:517:46:53

is so that it's accelerating and we're slowing down.

7:46:537:46:55

If you don't get anything else on this apart from this,

7:46:557:46:59

-that's all I'm really worried about, is this part.

-OK.

-All right?

7:46:597:47:03

He's going to be nervous.

7:47:047:47:05

I mean, he hasn't been on a sled for quite a while, right,

7:47:057:47:08

and it's all going to be brand-new to him again.

7:47:087:47:11

And you've got to imagine -

7:47:117:47:12

you're two inches off the ice, your face is really, really close

7:47:127:47:16

and you're going to be doing about 60mph.

7:47:167:47:19

We can't guarantee anything.

7:47:197:47:20

Once he's gone, he's on his own.

7:47:207:47:22

And if anything goes wrong, he's got to get out of it himself.

7:47:227:47:25

Not many people choose to take up this sport.

7:47:257:47:28

It's fast, furious and dangerous,

7:47:287:47:31

and that's exactly why it appealed to me.

7:47:317:47:34

But at this moment in time, I'm not so sure.

7:47:347:47:37

There's a huge part of me that's actually scared.

7:47:397:47:42

I haven't done this for a very, very long time

7:47:427:47:45

and just crossing that finish line is going to be an exhilaration

7:47:457:47:49

that's going to be off the charts.

7:47:497:47:51

But to be honest with you, number one is be safe.

7:47:517:47:55

I can't think about that too much

7:47:557:47:57

cos that actually does really make me scared.

7:47:577:48:00

Now it's my turn.

7:48:007:48:02

I'm about to go at the same speed as a car on the motorway,

7:48:027:48:06

except I'm going face first, down the ice.

7:48:067:48:09

After just a couple of hundred metres,

7:48:147:48:16

I'm really picking up pace.

7:48:167:48:17

Before I know it,

7:48:237:48:24

I'm hurtling around the longest bend in the course.

7:48:247:48:27

And once I'm clear of that, I'm approaching the danger corner -

7:48:297:48:33

corner nine.

7:48:337:48:34

And I'm through, on the sled in one piece.

7:48:397:48:42

And now I'm on the home straight...

7:48:477:48:49

and loving it!

7:48:497:48:51

Oh, my goodness!

7:48:517:48:53

Yes!

7:48:557:48:57

Oh, on the top of that run I was thinking to myself,

7:49:007:49:04

"Am I going to do this?

7:49:047:49:05

"Come on, Radzi! Come on, Radzi! Let's do it, let's do it."

7:49:057:49:08

And I am so pleased I just did that.

7:49:137:49:15

Oh, my goodness, my heart is absolutely pounding.

7:49:167:49:19

I actually loved that.

7:49:237:49:25

Oh, that was so good.

7:49:257:49:28

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

7:49:347:49:38

Radzi, I like going fast, you know that.

7:49:387:49:40

In a car, on a motorbike - no problem at all.

7:49:407:49:42

But 2cm off the ground, on ice, that must be terrifying.

7:49:427:49:45

Do you know what? If you do it, you'll get addicted. Trust me.

7:49:457:49:48

It's so good! But I couldn't have done it without the help

7:49:487:49:50

from British Skeleton and Mark Wood, so thank you so much.

7:49:507:49:53

And also, a huge good luck to Dom Parsons, to Kristan Bromley,

7:49:537:49:57

to Shelley Rudman and to Lizzy Yarnold.

7:49:577:49:59

They're going to be competing for Team GB in skeleton. Good luck.

7:49:597:50:02

I'd love to be able to give you a gold medal cos you deserve one

7:50:027:50:04

but I don't have any. I have biscuits that look like medals.

7:50:047:50:07

-Good enough for me.

-Let's go and make them.

7:50:077:50:09

-Hello, guys. How are we? ALL:

-Good.

-We're good?

7:50:097:50:11

We've got Nate, Brady, Scott and Lewis. Welcome to the show.

7:50:117:50:14

Now, we're going to be talking about the Winter Olympics

7:50:147:50:16

cos it all kicks off tomorrow.

7:50:167:50:17

So favourite sports? What do you like?

7:50:177:50:19

-Snowboarding.

-Freestyle snowboarding.

7:50:197:50:21

-I can tell you're a freestyler.

-Slopestyle and bobsleighing.

7:50:217:50:24

-Yeah, bobsleigh.

-Slopestyle and bobsleigh.

7:50:247:50:26

And if you could compete in any of these sports,

7:50:267:50:28

-you'd want a medal, wouldn't you? ALL:

-Yeah.

-We're going to make some.

7:50:287:50:31

Take a look at the cushion of joy.

7:50:317:50:32

It's got a gold, silver and a bronze on it.

7:50:327:50:34

-We're all going for gold, let's be honest.

-Yeah.

-Gold!

7:50:347:50:37

It's dead easy to make these.

7:50:377:50:38

They're just biscuits that have been decorated in a pretty way.

7:50:387:50:41

All you've got to do is go to the website...

7:50:417:50:43

You'll find everything you need for this make on there.

7:50:437:50:45

But don't go just yet, cos I've got to show you how to make 'em.

7:50:457:50:48

We're going to preheat the oven at 150.

7:50:487:50:50

That's gas mark 2 for those of you that have an oven from the '70s.

7:50:507:50:53

OK, butter and sugar go into a bowl, just like that.

7:50:537:50:56

And then what've got to do is mix them. So, boys, mix away.

7:50:567:50:59

It's all yours. And while you're doing that,

7:50:597:51:01

let's talk about your photograph, Brady.

7:51:017:51:03

Tell us more about this.

7:51:037:51:05

Well, we were at a competition in Canada

7:51:057:51:08

and we were just waiting for my run.

7:51:087:51:11

-And you just thought you'd just pose for a photo?

-Yeah.

7:51:117:51:13

It's one of those moments

7:51:137:51:15

-where you want to get your best side on film for ever. I like it.

-Yeah.

7:51:157:51:17

Don't forget to start decorating these, by the way.

7:51:177:51:20

We've got glittery pens, silver balls, gold balls, glitter,

7:51:207:51:23

you've got icing. Just go for it.

7:51:237:51:24

Once you've mixed your butter and your sugar...

7:51:247:51:26

Fabulous job, boys. ..you need to put your flour into it.

7:51:267:51:29

Save a bit of flour cos you want to put that on the table

7:51:297:51:31

so you call roll the dough out in a minute.

7:51:317:51:33

All the measurements for this are on the website, by the way.

7:51:337:51:36

So now, I think, boys, you've been far too clean.

7:51:367:51:38

Get your hands in there. Give me that.

7:51:387:51:40

Go for it! Make your dough.

7:51:407:51:42

And I need to come down there if I can, Lewis.

7:51:427:51:44

You want to keep mixing that for as long as you can,

7:51:447:51:47

till it starts to look something like this -

7:51:477:51:49

a dough ball.

7:51:497:51:51

Oh, yeah! I like this.

7:51:517:51:52

Now, lots of flour on the table.

7:51:527:51:55

Of course we've all washed our hands, before you ask.

7:51:557:51:57

All right.

7:51:597:52:00

Flour on the rolling pin. Where's me rolling pin?

7:52:027:52:04

Excuse me, boys. Thank you.

7:52:047:52:07

I need some of that flour off there.

7:52:077:52:09

The reason you're doing the flour on the rolling pin and the table

7:52:097:52:12

is cos you do not want it to stick to the table,

7:52:127:52:14

like that.

7:52:147:52:16

I'm showing you how not to do it!

7:52:167:52:18

OK. So, as you can see here,

7:52:187:52:20

putting flour down first means that your dough

7:52:207:52:23

will not stick to the table or the roller

7:52:237:52:26

and that is very important to remember that, OK?.

7:52:267:52:28

Nobody wants flour and dough stuck to their rolling pin.

7:52:287:52:31

So once you've rolled it out into a nice, flat, circular,

7:52:317:52:36

1cm thin bit of dough,

7:52:367:52:39

you need to cut it out.

7:52:397:52:41

And here you can use a cookie cutter if you want to.

7:52:417:52:44

Really simple to do.

7:52:447:52:45

If you haven't got one of those, you can use a cup.

7:52:457:52:48

Just turn it upside down and cut round it. It's dead easy.

7:52:487:52:51

Now you also need to make a little... How are you doing, boys?

7:52:517:52:54

You look like you're getting tired.

7:52:547:52:55

I'm only making you do it cos I didn't want to.

7:52:557:52:57

You're doing a great job.

7:52:577:52:59

You need to make a little hole for your ribbon to go through.

7:52:597:53:01

To do that, you can use the end of a paintbrush, like that.

7:53:017:53:05

Just go through

7:53:057:53:07

and then chuck it on your trays, which I'm going to do now.

7:53:077:53:10

Now make sure you grease the baking tray as well,

7:53:107:53:12

cos we don't want anything else sticking!

7:53:127:53:14

And you can just add to the other cookies on there.

7:53:147:53:17

It's dead easy.

7:53:177:53:19

And while we're doing this,

7:53:197:53:20

let's talk about Scott's amazing photograph.

7:53:207:53:22

Have you seen this? This is amazing. Scott, talk us through it.

7:53:227:53:25

Well, it was at an event at Chill Factore.

7:53:257:53:29

And yeah, I love backflips and front flips

7:53:297:53:31

so I decided to do that flip.

7:53:317:53:33

And they were just dead easy to do.

7:53:337:53:35

You thought you'd pose and do a back flip, why not?

7:53:357:53:37

I understand. Now, don't forget our oven has been preheated to 150.

7:53:377:53:41

Chuck the ones on top that you're going to be cooking,

7:53:417:53:44

And here's some somebody else made earlier.

7:53:447:53:46

Don't forget these are going to be hot when you take them out,

7:53:467:53:48

so make sure you leave them to cool. Excuse me, hot tray coming through.

7:53:487:53:51

There you go. How are yours getting on?

7:53:517:53:53

You're decorating them with glittery pens.

7:53:537:53:55

What style are we going for? Tell me.

7:53:557:53:57

-I'm going for a snowboarder.

-Yeah.

7:53:577:54:00

You could do one like Scott, back flipping. That'd be wicked!

7:54:007:54:03

-How about you, Brady?

-A mountain.

-A mountain?

7:54:037:54:05

Well, there's icing sugar there,

7:54:057:54:07

-you could use that as snow on top.

-Yeah.

-Go for it.

7:54:077:54:09

There's a great thing about these glitter pens

7:54:097:54:11

that not many people know,

7:54:117:54:12

you can't tell what flavour they are.

7:54:127:54:14

Close your eyes and put your hand over your mouth,

7:54:147:54:16

you've got to tell me what flavour you think this is.

7:54:167:54:19

What flavour is that? Can you tell?

7:54:197:54:21

-Any idea?

-Banana.

-Banana!

7:54:217:54:23

Well done, you got it right. Congratulations.

7:54:237:54:25

-So once you have decorated them... What, you've got a little...

-Yeah.

7:54:257:54:29

..chuck the ribbon through the hole in your now-cooked biscuit

7:54:297:54:32

and there you have it.

7:54:327:54:34

As long as you decorate it the way that you want,

7:54:347:54:36

which is gold, silver, bronze or any kind of sparkly design,

7:54:367:54:39

everyone's going to be happy.

7:54:397:54:40

There you go. All the details are on the website.

7:54:407:54:42

Head over there and have a look for yourself.

7:54:427:54:45

-Lindsey!

-Yes.

7:54:457:54:46

Those look delish. Scrumptious, thank you.

7:54:467:54:49

And why don't you head online if you get a chance,

7:54:497:54:51

if you like the look of edible medals, bbc.co.uk/bluepeter,

7:54:517:54:55

and play our brand-new game.

7:54:557:54:57

It's for Sport Relief and it's called Athletes Vs Monsters.

7:54:577:55:00

It's so fun. You can make little tournaments with your friends

7:55:007:55:03

and if you come first, second or third,

7:55:037:55:05

you get to give out edible medals. Yum!

7:55:057:55:07

So make sure you go check it out.

7:55:077:55:09

And if you do make edible medals,

7:55:097:55:10

make sure you send us a photo of them.

7:55:107:55:12

Stop messing around, you lot!

7:55:127:55:14

It does not fit round my neck, does it?

7:55:147:55:17

-There's dough everywhere!

-Thank you.

-Check out the muscle in your neck!

7:55:177:55:20

-I'll just hold it, let's pretend I'm not here.

-Let's roll with it.

7:55:207:55:23

-Look at this big badge wall, by the way!

-It's packed. Caked!

7:55:237:55:26

Caked like this medal is in glitter,

7:55:267:55:28

-which is actually pouring down.

-LOUD RUSTLING

7:55:287:55:31

Look at this one, now. This is from Annabel.

7:55:317:55:33

-Let me move that. We can't hear your beautiful voice.

-Thank you.

7:55:337:55:36

-It was good while it lasted!

-Hopefully you can hear me now.

7:55:367:55:38

This is... Come and stand here and point to that on there.

7:55:387:55:41

That's from Annabel from Surrey and that's the Winter Olympics.

7:55:417:55:43

-I love that.

-But my favourite has to be from Ailsa.

7:55:437:55:46

Now, if you read that there, that's a door hanger. It says,

7:55:467:55:49

"Do not disturb, I am watching Blue Peter."

7:55:497:55:51

-Quite right.

-Rightly so, between 5:30 and 6 on Thursday on CBBC.

7:55:517:55:54

But when you're not doing that,

7:55:547:55:56

"Come in for some epic Blue Peter fun."

7:55:567:55:58

-Love it, Ailsa!

-That's what we're doing now -

7:55:587:56:00

epic Blue Peter fun, I like to call this.

7:56:007:56:02

And look at this, it's from Hannah and Nicole.

7:56:027:56:04

They sent in a little memory board.

7:56:047:56:06

You've got the dogs on there. You've got Radzi being gunged,

7:56:067:56:09

me jumping off a pier, Chris Hadfield.

7:56:097:56:11

It's looking brill. Thank you so much for that.

7:56:117:56:13

And last but not least, this is from Lily.

7:56:137:56:16

Have a look at it!

7:56:167:56:17

She's made a necklace of Blue Peter badges.

7:56:177:56:20

I love it and I'm going to wear it till the end of the show,

7:56:207:56:23

I love it so much.

7:56:237:56:24

-Thank you for that.

-I love that and thank you so much

7:56:247:56:26

for sending all of your post in. Please keep it coming. Barney?

7:56:267:56:29

Hiya. How are you doing?

7:56:297:56:30

Right then, let's talk about what you've sent us today.

7:56:307:56:33

We're asking you to get in touch

7:56:337:56:34

and tell us what Winter Olympic sport you would invent.

7:56:347:56:37

Lewis, do you want to read this one? It's a good one.

7:56:377:56:39

Snow cycle. You have to cycle on the snow, in the cold.

7:56:397:56:43

It's quite a nice one. It's from topazathleticstarfish.

7:56:437:56:45

A bike on the snow, I like that one.

7:56:457:56:47

Absolutely.

7:56:477:56:48

And why don't you read that one? Go for it.

7:56:487:56:50

"If I could invent a snow sport, I would invent hula-skate,

7:56:507:56:54

"where you have to ice skate..."

7:56:547:56:56

-That sounds difficult, doesn't it?

-"..and hula hoop at the same time."

7:56:567:56:59

You'd be wiggling everything. That's from topazviolinangel.

7:56:597:57:02

-Thank you for that.

-Sapphirecrumpetrockstar -

7:57:027:57:04

this is really simple but it works.

7:57:047:57:05

-Synchronised snowboarding.

-Like it.

-I like that a lot.

7:57:057:57:09

Sepiapepperyturkey... These names are getting better.

7:57:097:57:11

..had a similar thought - freestyle basketting.

7:57:117:57:14

-I like that one.

-It's very popular already!

7:57:147:57:17

And then last but not least, we've got purpleglowingsinger says,

7:57:177:57:20

"Snow carting, a mix between carting and snowboarding."

7:57:207:57:24

-Oh, that sounds quite fun.

-Yeah.

7:57:247:57:26

Thank you so much for getting in touch

7:57:267:57:27

and leaving your comments for us. If you are on the website,

7:57:277:57:30

head over there and check out Malorie Blackman's section.

7:57:307:57:32

She's an amazing person, we've known her for a long time.

7:57:327:57:35

And you can ask her any questions.

7:57:357:57:36

Lindsey's going to meet her and ask her your questions. Get involved.

7:57:367:57:39

That's just about all we've got time for this week.

7:57:397:57:42

But fear not, my friends, as next week we've got all this...

7:57:427:57:45

That's right, I'm going to be combining street art and origami

7:57:457:57:48

-in Paris.

-Yes, that's right, Lindsey.

7:57:487:57:51

And also, have you ever wanted to fly 2,000 feet in the air

7:57:517:57:54

in an aircraft with no engine?

7:57:547:57:55

16-year-old Alex is doing that himself and that's just his hobby.

7:57:557:57:58

It's amazing.

7:57:587:57:59

And I'm going to be showing you how to make this.

7:57:597:58:01

It is part card, part box, part perfect Valentine's present!

7:58:017:58:05

And it doesn't open but it does now! Look at that. It's very good.

7:58:057:58:07

It's beautiful. Thank you for getting in touch.

7:58:077:58:10

Have a lovely week. Say goodbye, guys. A big wave.

7:58:107:58:12

-Scott, do a back flip.

-Quick!

-No, don't!

-Oh, no, don't!

7:58:127:58:15

Can you imagine? I'd get told off!
