Today we're going to be looking at a skill called a half volley.

It's a skill you might use when the ball bounces in front of you.

When the ball is off the ground, you use your laces to kick the ball

forward, a bit like this.

-ALL:

There are three main things to remember

when we're doing a half volley.

We need to look for the ball, let it bounce,

and kick it with our laces.

To practise our half volleys, we're going to drop the ball, let it

bounce and kick it forward, like this.

kick it when it's moving. I'm going to bounce the ball against the wall.

One at a time you need to run forwards, let it bounce

I wonder if it's going to be harder for us to get the ball from them.

I can't wait to get out there and try my brand-new football boots.

Think of all the amazing kicks you can do!

I don't want to do anything that will get them dirty and mucky.

But that's what football boots are for.

This is how I'm going to get onto the pitch, so I don't wear them out.

and I wonder what kind of moves the Cheer-fleaders are going to use.

We should do something make the kangaroos really feel at home.

We've got some Australian instruments called didgeridoos

might be very tricky to play against.

This'll be easy! They're not moving fast at all.

Uh-oh! I don't want to get my boots dirty,

but I've still got to kick the ball.

I know - I can kick the ball on the top of my boot

so it only hits my laces!

Oh, bones!

I've kicked it the wrong way!

Oh! This game is far too bouncy!

-You aren't bouncing enough!

I'm springy enough to bounce for all of us.

Ha-ha! Now I'm far enough away to keep my lovely new boots

And Rex is the only pup who's managed to kick the ball!

Even though he doesn't want to.

All I'm doing is waiting for it to bounce,

and kicking it with the top of my boot,

so it hits the laces instead of my shiny news shoes.

Maybe we should all kick just like Rex -

hitting the ball after the bounce, on our laces.

He-he! Well done, Rozzie.

That's called a half volley.

If you kick it after the bounce,

it's a great way to control where the ball goes.

You can even shoot it over the heads of other players!

To play this game, you'll need to be ready to respond.

When the whistle blows, the first player on each team grabs a ball,

takes it to the spot,

bounces the ball on the floor,

and then kicks it at the goal with their laces.

They run back to their team-mates, high five,

and it's the next player's turn. The winners of this game will be

the team who score the most goals from half volleys.
