Being stuck at home because of sickness can be a real problem.

0:00:280:00:31

can be a real problem.

0:00:310:00:32

Kids can miss out on important lessons at school and the chance

0:00:320:00:32

to hang out with their friends.

0:00:350:00:36

Could robots help?

0:00:360:00:37

Check it out...

0:00:370:00:38

This is how Jacob goes to school.

0:00:380:00:40

Using an iPad at his home in the US, he is controlling a Segway

0:00:400:00:43

with another iPad on top.

0:00:430:00:49

It lets him see and hear everything going on in class.

0:00:490:00:52

His classmates and teacher can see and hear him too.

0:00:520:00:56

It's nice to see them in the morning.

0:00:560:01:04

The fact that I am waking up first thing in the morning...

0:01:040:01:07

I still haven't gotten used to it yet, but I mean, I'm getting there.

0:01:070:01:14

The reason Jacob needs this amazing system is because unfortunately,

0:01:140:01:18

he cannot go to school in person.

0:01:180:01:21

A couple of years ago Jacob got really sick.

0:01:210:01:24

Doctors haven't been able to figure out what's wrong yet.

0:01:240:01:28

In the meantime, he cannot go to class.

0:01:280:01:31

His classmates and his school got together and figured

0:01:310:01:33

out a way to help.

0:01:330:01:40

Jacob's friend's dad just so happens to have one of these new robots,

0:01:400:01:43

so he let Jacob use it to attend school in robot form.

0:01:430:01:46

Although it's really useful for Jacob to help him

0:01:460:01:50

see his friends and get back to class, he mainly just loves

0:01:500:01:53

the fact that now he can say he has his very own robot.

0:01:530:01:56

It's been an awesome journey so far.

0:01:560:02:03

And these kids in Brazil have been getting the party started!

0:02:030:02:06

They've been taking part in a huge parade just for kids,

0:02:060:02:08

in the famous Rio de Janiero carnival in Brazil.

0:02:080:02:11

Children from loads of samba schools came together to show

0:02:110:02:14

off their dancing skills and ride on giant floats.

0:02:140:02:20

Next up, Ryan and Kirsty live in Northern Ireland.

0:02:200:02:23

There is an election taking place there tomorrow -

0:02:230:02:26

and they wanted to explain why it matters to them.

0:02:260:02:29

Hello, I'm Ryan.

0:02:290:02:30

Hi, I'm Kirsty.

0:02:300:02:31

We're both from Belfast.

0:02:310:02:32

It's the capital city of Northern Ireland.

0:02:320:02:34

BOTH: Come with us.

0:02:340:02:37

There are many great things to see in Belfast,

0:02:370:02:39

like this big blue fish.

0:02:390:02:43

The Titanic was built here, so you can come

0:02:430:02:45

and visit the museum, too.

0:02:450:02:49

We in Northern Ireland are part of the UK.

0:02:490:02:51

But we have our own government, just up there, which is in charge of

0:02:510:02:55

things like schools and hospitals.

0:02:550:02:59

We have a very important election coming up tomorrow.

0:02:590:03:02

It's really important to us, because there was a lot

0:03:020:03:05

of conflict here in the past.

0:03:050:03:06

The conflict was quite a while ago, and we were too young

0:03:060:03:09

to live through it.

0:03:090:03:10

So we've brought our teacher along today to learn a bit about it.

0:03:100:03:13

When I was growing up in Northern Ireland,

0:03:130:03:15

things were a lot different than they are today.

0:03:150:03:17

There were soldiers on the streets, there were bombs going off,

0:03:240:03:27

there were bomb scares.

0:03:270:03:29

If you'd maybe gone into the city centre, you would have

0:03:290:03:32

to have your bag checked.

0:03:320:03:34

So, was it scary when you went near Belfast with your friends or family?

0:03:340:03:38

It was and it wasn't, because you became so used to it.

0:03:380:03:42

But it was scary, I can remember being in Belfast with my granny

0:03:420:03:45

and I was about your age, running down the street because

0:03:450:03:49

there were explosions happening.

0:03:490:03:51

You live in very different way than I did growing up

0:03:510:03:54

in Northern Ireland.

0:03:540:04:00

We don't want to go back to the old days

0:04:000:04:02

in Northern Ireland, where there's lots of

0:04:020:04:04

fighting and conflict.

0:04:040:04:05

So it's important our government keeps things running the same.

0:04:050:04:07

Our message to all the politicians here is to just keep the peace.

0:04:070:04:11

Now tomorrow is a very big day for many of you -

0:04:110:04:14

it's World Book Day!

0:04:140:04:15

We know you guys love it, we know you'll all be dressing up.

0:04:150:04:19

And we want to know what you'll be wearing!

0:04:190:04:21

Head online and let us know.

0:04:210:04:23

Now check this out before we go.

0:04:230:04:25

This is Elias Ambuhl setting a new world record

0:04:250:04:28

for skiing backwards.

0:04:280:04:31

He's zooming down the Weisshorn mountain in Switzerland.

0:04:310:04:34

The 24-year-old managed to reach the speed of 80mph breaking

0:04:340:04:38

the last record set in 2012.

0:04:380:04:46

That's all from me, Newsround's back tomorrow at 7.40am.

0:04:460:04:48

Don't forget to check out the website for all the rest

0:04:480:04:51

of the day's stories.
