Afternoon, guys. Ayshah here with your Monday Newsround. | :00:00. | :00:07.
Coming up: We find out what may have caused a 30 foot sinkhole that | :00:08. | :00:17.
swallowed up a car. And the British ace is serving up a historic win in | :00:18. | :00:22.
the Davis Cup. But first, we're talking about the | :00:23. | :00:26.
World Cup of tennis: the Davis Cup. Last night, British fans were | :00:27. | :00:30.
celebrating a historic win as Andy Murray beat his American opponent | :00:31. | :00:33.
Sam Querrey - the first time Britain has won a tie against the USA for 78 | :00:34. | :00:38.
years. Andy and the British team are now through to the quarterfinals of | :00:39. | :00:41.
the competition in Italy. But what is the Davis Cup, and why is this | :00:42. | :00:45.
win so special? Nel's been on court to find out more. | :00:46. | :00:56.
So, what is the Davis Cup? Well, unlike Wimbledon, you play for your | :00:57. | :01:02.
country. The first ever Davis Cup tournament was played between Great | :01:03. | :01:07.
Britain and America, and that was over 100 years ago. Now, 130 nations | :01:08. | :01:12.
compete, making it the world's largest annual international team | :01:13. | :01:17.
competition in sport. The best countries each year make up the | :01:18. | :01:23.
world group. The rest of the country 's move down to groups one to four, | :01:24. | :01:32.
where they stay unless they can move up or down, depending on whether | :01:33. | :01:37.
they win or lose. What has been the secret to the British team's recent | :01:38. | :01:44.
success? Four years ago, the Davis Cup team were in turmoil, but then | :01:45. | :01:49.
Leon Smith took over as the new coach. Since then, he's been | :01:50. | :01:53.
prolific, winning eight out of nine matches, bringing in 11 different | :01:54. | :01:59.
players. He has turned it around, and now Great Britain are on the | :02:00. | :02:02.
verge of big things in the Davis Cup. They could even win it. Murray | :02:03. | :02:08.
and the team face a tough task when they play Italy in April, but Murray | :02:09. | :02:14.
hasn't lost a Davis Cup matches since 2005. With this new-found | :02:15. | :02:22.
belief, who knows how far the way? Imagine waking up in the morning to | :02:23. | :02:26.
find a 30 foot hole in your front garden, and your family car gone. | :02:27. | :02:29.
Well, a family in High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire had an unbelievable | :02:30. | :02:34.
start to their day. This is what Phil and Liz Conran cup | :02:35. | :02:41.
to this. An enormous hole in their driveway. It is 30 feet deep, and at | :02:42. | :02:48.
the bottom of it is one of their cars. Experts say the reason this | :02:49. | :02:52.
happened was all the rain we have been having, which washed the earth | :02:53. | :02:57.
away from underneath the tarmac. Sinkholes like this one are rare in | :02:58. | :03:01.
this country. But we wanted to find out more about how they happen, so | :03:02. | :03:06.
here's the science behind it! This is the rainwater. It falls down | :03:07. | :03:11.
and it has a bit of acid in it as it moves through the soil. Then it hits | :03:12. | :03:15.
Rock which is like chalk or limestone, and that dissolves away. | :03:16. | :03:21.
That creates these cavities under the ground, which gets bigger and | :03:22. | :03:26.
bigger. Once they reach the surface, the whole thing collapses | :03:27. | :03:28.
in. And Professor Stewart will be | :03:29. | :03:31.
exploring underground caverns in tonight's Horizon programme, which | :03:32. | :03:34.
is all about sinkholes. It's on at 9pm, but it's repeated on Thursday | :03:35. | :03:36.
at 7pm. Sport now, and tonight sees a | :03:37. | :03:39.
star-studded night of football, as the Premier League's big spenders | :03:40. | :03:42.
Manchester City and Chelsea go head to head. Man City are the favourites | :03:43. | :03:46.
going into the match. So far, Manuel Pellegrini's team have won every | :03:47. | :03:49.
home game this season, scoring a massive 42 goals in the process. BBC | :03:50. | :03:57.
Sport's John Watson told us just how important this match is. | :03:58. | :04:04.
Huge. Everybody thinks the winners of the Premier League are going to | :04:05. | :04:10.
come out of Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea. The fact that | :04:11. | :04:13.
Manchester City and Chelsea are playing each other is significant. | :04:14. | :04:18.
You have Chelsea, with all of their millions, who are scoring goals for | :04:19. | :04:23.
fun. It's going to be a huge match, and may determine who wins As | :04:24. | :04:26.
always, there's plenty of good stuff over on the website. | :04:27. | :04:28.
The league. JK Rowling has revealed in an | :04:29. | :04:31.
interview that she's not sure she came up with the best ending for the | :04:32. | :04:35.
books. You can tell us what you reckon about this on the website - | :04:36. | :04:39.
but be warned, there are spoilers! Before we go, fancy seeing this | :04:40. | :04:42.
building in Germany get demolished? Yeah, you do. The tower was built | :04:43. | :04:46.
back in 1972 but was knocked down to make way for two new office | :04:47. | :04:48.
buildings. Around 30,000 people gathered in Frankfurt to see the | :04:49. | :04:53.
university tower get blown up. It's the tallest building ever demolished | :04:54. | :04:57.
in Europe. That's it. Newsround's back at | :04:58. | :04:59.
6:50pm. I'll see you then. | :05:00. | :05:03. |
