coming up: Storms of wind, rain and massive waves are still battering

parts of the UK. And, back on dry land - the mystery

of the Mexican castaway lost at sea for over a year!

First though, the terrible weather conditions continue to batter parts

of Britain, with storms causing chaos in the south west of England

and parts of Wales overnight. Gusts of up to 70 miles an hour were

recorded and thousands of homes are still without power after the fierce

winds brought down trees and electricity cables. Power companies

are now fighting to get supplies back on.

missed a deadline to remove chemical weapons from the country. A deal had

been agreed to ship out dangerous chemicals more than a month ago. And

today another batch was supposed to have been removed. But authorities

say it's been delayed because of bad weather and problems with security.

It's now expected to be completed by the beginning of March. America

wants more to be done to get things sorted.

Next to a story of survival that's amazed and surprised people around

the world. Two years ago a fisherman from Mexico says he went on a

fishing trip with a friend. 13 months later, he was found on a tiny

island 8,000 miles from home. Nel has been looking into it.

This man says he spent more than a year floating adrift in the middle

of the ocean. He claims to have lost at sea but 13 months when a fishing

trip went wrong. He is said to have eaten birds, fish and turtles he

caught with his hands. The 37-year-old, who only speaks

Spanish, said he left southern Mexico with a friend on a day trip

to catch black tip shark -- sharks in 2012. Last week he washed up

alone with a bushy beard eight thousand miles from home on a tiny

Pacific island. TRANSLATION: The boat was bobbing up

and down in the waves. I pushed myself away from the boat so it

would not hit me in the head. When I got to the sure I was unable to

walk. Some people have questioned whether it is possible to survive at

the four that amount of time. He said his friend he was travelling

with died many months ago, but there is no details how he died and how

the boat got into trouble in the first place. He is now heading back

to Mexico to be ready -- reunited with his family. It is not the first

time people have been rescued off the Marshall Islands. In 2006, three

fishermen had to be rescued after what they said nine months drifting

across the Pacific Ocean. They survived on rainwater, birds and

fish. Now you see tonnes of this stuff

when you're by the coast - seaweed. But now doctors are looking into

whether it could help fight infections. Teams at Cardiff and

Swansea universities say it could help people who suffer from

illnesses like Cystic Fibrosis because they believe elements of the

seaweed could break down a sticky mucus that damages the body's

organs. Cricket now and one of England's

best ever star batsman Kevin Pietersen has played his last match

for his country. Bosses announced yesterday that he'd been dropped for

both the One Day tour of the West Indies which starts next month, and

the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh. Those in charge say they need to

rebuild the team after the disastrous Ashes tour of Australia.

I don't think this is the moment. There is a World Cup, an Ashes

series in 16 months. You need your best players. It is the wrong call

at the wrong time for English cricket.

Swansea have sacked their manager Michael Laudrup, even though he won

the League Cup with them last season. But they are just two points

above the Premier League relegation zone. Captain Garry Monk is in

charge for now ahead of the weekend's massive clash with local

rivals Cardiff. And, Fulham have been knocked out of

the FA Cup by League One's Sheffield United. They lost 1-0 after this

last minute, extra-time header, from Shaun Miller. The Blades will now

play the winner of tonight's replay between Preston and Nottingham

Forest. I will be back in about half an
