You're with Ricky on Monday morning. This is Newsround, live from

:00:00.:00:12.

Salford. On today's show: Sniffing out wildlife crime.

:00:13.:00:19.

We join the Border Force dogs. And we checked out some amazing

:00:20.:00:26.

avalanche pictures. -- check out. But first, England's flooding

:00:27.:00:29.

nightmare continues, with 16 severe flood warnings in place, which mean

:00:30.:00:33.

a risk to life. A wide stretch of the River Thames has reached its

:00:34.:00:37.

highest water level for more than 20 years, threatening thousands of

:00:38.:00:40.

homes. Berkshire and Surrey are the worst affected. The Army and the

:00:41.:00:43.

Navy have been called in to help build defences, to try to divert the

:00:44.:00:47.

water away from populated areas. And parts of the River Severn in

:00:48.:00:50.

Shropshire and Worcestershire are at the highest levels for seven years.

:00:51.:00:53.

Forecasters say today will be the driest day of the week, but rivers

:00:54.:00:57.

could continue to rise as rainfall works its way downstream.

:00:58.:01:06.

In Australia, they're battling dozens of bushfires sweeping across

:01:07.:01:10.

the south of the country. More than 1,000 fire fighters are tackling the

:01:11.:01:14.

blazes in the state of Victoria. The fires are being fanned by hot

:01:15.:01:17.

weather and strong winds. Many residents have been ordered to leave

:01:18.:01:21.

their homes, and at least 20 houses have been destroyed, in the worst

:01:22.:01:24.

conditions since a very serious fire in 2009.

:01:25.:01:27.

Prince William and his dad Prince Charles have made a video, calling

:01:28.:01:30.

for an end to the illegal wildlife trade. A big meeting takes place

:01:31.:01:33.

this week, where world leaders will try to work out how to stop the

:01:34.:01:37.

crime. Campaigners say hunting animals like elephants and rhino has

:01:38.:01:40.

reached an all-time high, and many endangered species are at risk of

:01:41.:01:43.

extinction. In the UK, the Border Force is in charge of stopping

:01:44.:01:46.

criminals from illegally transporting endangered plants and

:01:47.:01:49.

animals in and out of the country. We sent Nel to spend a day with

:01:50.:01:51.

them. London Heathrow is one of the

:01:52.:01:57.

busiest airports in the world. Every day, almost 200,000 passengers pass

:01:58.:02:00.

through its gates, jetting off to countries across the globe. Many

:02:01.:02:08.

will be on their holidays. A small number are using airports to

:02:09.:02:10.

illegally transport endangered plants and animals in and out of the

:02:11.:02:19.

country. This is Tyke, a detective dog,

:02:20.:02:23.

trained to smell for any plants and animals illegally hidden in any

:02:24.:02:29.

number of these bags or suitcases. What kind of stuff is he finding

:02:30.:02:36.

which is imported to the country? He's looking for a rhino horn,

:02:37.:02:39.

ivory, tortoises. Birds, lizards. That's what is trying to look for.

:02:40.:02:46.

And when it's there, hopefully, he will find it.

:02:47.:02:49.

How do you know the something in the bag?

:02:50.:02:51.

His body language will change. He will freeze, and look directly for

:02:52.:02:53.

me. Because I'm the one who would give

:02:54.:02:56.

him the reward. When he's found something illegal,

:02:57.:02:58.

what happens next? We inform the team, and they

:02:59.:03:01.

investigate the background, and where it's come from. And whether

:03:02.:03:05.

it's illegal or not. Last year, the Border Force made

:03:06.:03:08.

more than 690 seizures. Including 326 ivory items. And 93 live

:03:09.:03:17.

animals. We have got the skin of a cat which

:03:18.:03:21.

comes from the jungles in South America. We have got the skin of a

:03:22.:03:28.

rock python. A very large snake. And ivory. A tooth from hippopotamus.

:03:29.:03:32.

And wood from trees which is now endangered.

:03:33.:03:34.

How bad is it? The trafficking is massive. A

:03:35.:03:38.

thousand rhinos poached last year. There is only 20,000 left in the

:03:39.:03:43.

world. An elephant is slaughtered in Africa every 15 minutes. That is how

:03:44.:03:47.

bad it is. It's a major, major moment in the world. We have to do

:03:48.:03:51.

something now. The illegal trade in wildlife is a

:03:52.:04:02.

growing problem here and abroad. And, later this week, Prince William

:04:03.:04:05.

will be speaking at an event in London to some of the world's

:04:06.:04:09.

leaders, in the hope they can come together to draw up plans to better

:04:10.:04:12.

protect some of the world's most endangered species from the threat

:04:13.:04:14.

of extinction. It's day three of the Winter

:04:15.:04:18.

Olympics. And, in the past hour, Team GB's curlers got off to a

:04:19.:04:21.

winning start. The men beat the hosts Russia 7-4. The women's team

:04:22.:04:29.

will play Sweden at 10am. Head to the website to find out what

:04:30.:04:33.

action you should be looking out for in Sochi today. Britain's speed

:04:34.:04:39.

skaters are in action later on. You can also read how it is game

:04:40.:04:43.

over for Flappy Bird, the app that's got millions of people all over the

:04:44.:04:46.

world bashing their phones. It's been taken off the app store this

:04:47.:04:53.

morning. Take a look at this avalanche in

:04:54.:04:58.

Italy. It was caught on camera in Tyrol region. No casualties have

:04:59.:05:02.

been reported, according to

:05:03.:05:03.
