Hi I'm Martin with your evening update. First tonight,

:00:00.:00:09.

hurricane-force winds of over 100 miles per hour are battering the

:00:10.:00:14.

country. A "Red" weather warning has been issued by the Met Office.

:00:15.:00:17.

100,000 homes in England and Wales have had their power cut off. BBC

:00:18.:00:21.

reporter Jon Kay braved the gusts on England's South Coast earlier. In

:00:22.:00:32.

the harbour here by the wall, but I'm nearly 6 foot, nearly 14 stone

:00:33.:00:38.

and I'm struggling to stand. The spray hitting my skin... Oh! It is

:00:39.:00:42.

like somebody sticking needles into me.

:00:43.:00:48.

And it's not just the wind that's causing havoc - more rain is

:00:49.:00:52.

forecast for the next few days. This could mean further problems for

:00:53.:00:55.

flood-hit areas such as Datchet in Berkshire, where Ayesha has been

:00:56.:00:59.

today. Here in Datchet is a very watery scene indeed. The place has

:01:00.:01:05.

been inundated with water. The Army has arrived and they've been putting

:01:06.:01:10.

sandbags outside homes and businesses to try and protect them.

:01:11.:01:14.

On Monday this started when the river Thames burst its banks and

:01:15.:01:20.

inundated the whole yf. We've been speaking to -- the whole area. We've

:01:21.:01:25.

been speaking to children about how they feel about the situation. We

:01:26.:01:30.

haven't been to school since Friday. We are not allowed to use the water,

:01:31.:01:37.

because it is contaminated. No-one can get out and it is boring at

:01:38.:01:42.

home, because we can't go anywhere. The water is rising and the Army are

:01:43.:01:46.

here trying to help people. They are putting more sandbags out to try and

:01:47.:01:50.

stop the water from coming in. Here as well as in the nearby village of

:01:51.:01:54.

Wraysbury people are going to be really concerned about those water

:01:55.:01:58.

levels tonight. They won't know when they'll be able to return home.

:01:59.:02:04.

Thanks Ayesha. There's plenty more on the floods on our website as

:02:05.:02:08.

well. Check out Nel's special report from a family in flood-hit

:02:09.:02:11.

Wraysbury. Find out what the weather warnings mean, and discover why the

:02:12.:02:14.

floods are happening. Football now, and tonight - weather

:02:15.:02:17.

permitting - there are some big matches in the Premier League.

:02:18.:02:19.

Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool are all in action. Arsenal

:02:20.:02:23.

could see themselves back at the top of the table if they beat Manchester

:02:24.:02:26.

United at the Emirates. Everton will also be pushing towards a top four

:02:27.:02:35.

spot when they play Crystal palace. Last up there was more action in

:02:36.:02:39.

Sochi with Team GB's Chemmy Alcott finishing 19th in the downhill

:02:40.:02:42.

skiing. And not great news for the woman's curling team either, as they

:02:43.:02:45.

lost 9-6 against Canada. But my favourite sport of the day is the

:02:46.:02:49.

men's Nordic combined - a mixture of cross country skiing and ski

:02:50.:02:52.

jumping. The gold went to German Eric Frenzel.

:02:53.:02:54.

That's all from me. Newsround's back right here in about half an hour.

:02:55.:02:56.

Bye.
