Newsround. Coming up: why 1D are taking an unusual stand against

school bullies. And the debate on kids' coaching

First to Greece, where people watching TV last night got a bit of

a shock when the country's equivalent of the BBC was switched

off in the middle of a programme. The government pulled the plug on

the public funded ERT network, saying it wasted too much money.

It's sparked big protests and strikes across the country - another

reminder of the Greece's financial This was the moment the oldest TV

channel in Greece went off air. Turned off mid-show by the Greek

government - a drastic move to try and make savings by the people in

charge of a country gripped by massive money problems. Switching

off the channel was just another reminder of how bad things have got

for Greece. They've borrowed billions of pounds over the last ten

years and are desperately struggling to pay it all back. It's meant loads

of people losing jobs, schools and hospitals being closed and a huge

rise in homelessness- something Newsround witnessed first-hand when

Leah went there in 2011. One of the signs of the big money troubles is

the rows of shops closed and buildings half finished. Now adding

their names to the list of unemployed are the 2,500 staff from

the TV station they turned off - the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation,

or ERT. As of this evening, you will be seeing black on the channels, ERT

is closing. They've been suspended for now but many are expected to

lose their jobs permanently. Straight after the screens went

blank, people gathered outside the headquarters to protest. Journalists

from rival stations have showed their support by going on strike.

The government say ERT will re-launch but as a much smaller and

cheaper to run broadcaster. But for now it seems Greek people will have

to get used to more scenes like this, and TV pictures like this.

Next - One Direction have taken a unique stand against bullying - by

launching their own nail varnish. Yes, the boys have put their names

to the new 1D Plus OD range. Each member has their own colour. Zayn's

is green, Harry's blue and Niall is purple. They want kids in America to

carry them in their pencil cases to remind them to be nice to each

other. Failure at big tournaments is

something England footy fans have got pretty used to over the years.

But last night the next generation of stars suffered a big

embarrassment, losing their third straight game and going out of the

European U21 Championships. Manager Stuart Pearce blamed the players for

not being good enough - reigniting a big debate about the talent coming

through and the quality of kids' coaching.

Another tournament, another disappointment - losing to the

lowest ranked team competing and rock bottom of the group, with no

points. Is It's a result made all the more shocking by the fact that,

with the World Cup in Brazil exactly one year away, it was hoped some of

these guys were the big hopes to take England glory. Their failure's

sparked a much wider debate about whether coaching of kids in England

is up to scratch. Stuart Pearce's job was made harder across many

players withdrew, he had a squad in Israel, but the real issue is I this

play is good enough, are we producing enough skilful young

players -- are English players good enough? The FA claim this is the

solution - St George's Park, a brand new coaching centre aimed at

developing the national youth teams and coaches. And it can't come soon

enough, with the number of young English players playing in the

Premier League reaching an all-time low last season. Of every minute of

every game played - English youngsters were on the pitch for

only 2% of the time. That's below countries like Germany and France,

nations with more recent success at major championships. Investment in

youth and success in championships is a problem affecting all the home

nations. But as far as England are concerned, the FA say the big prize

of winning a tournament could take 15-20 years to achieve. So there

could be lots more of this, and not much of this to look forward to.

England's women will be hoping to show the boys how it's done at their

the Duchess of Cornwall, have made a very usual Royal appearance - in the

Beano! The pair guest star in the latest edition of the famous comic,

during which they visit the notoriously rowdy Bash Street

School. Beano editor Craig Graham said Charles and Camilla were

thrilled to be featured in the long-running comic.
