Hello everyone. Ayshah here bringing you the latest this Tuesday | :00:00. | :00:12.
afternoon. No money. No television. No phones. No technology. Food, we | :00:13. | :00:18.
need food. As people in the Philippines wait for help to arrive, | :00:19. | :00:21.
we are looking at how the world s reacting to the disaster. | :00:22. | :00:29.
First, it's been almost five days since one of the most powerful | :00:30. | :00:32.
storms ever recorded swept across the Philippines in south-east Asia. | :00:33. | :00:35.
Millions have been affected, and 10,000 people are thought to have | :00:36. | :00:40.
died. And whilst a huge appeal has now been launched to try and raise | :00:41. | :00:43.
money to help, more bad weather and tough conditions on the ground are | :00:44. | :00:47.
making the job really difficult The city of Tacloban was one of the | :00:48. | :00:54.
worst hit areas. Houses and schools were flattened by a wall of water | :00:55. | :00:57.
which engulfed the coast. Here's a picture of the seaside city before | :00:58. | :01:01.
the typhoon. And a picture after. The devastation is clear to see The | :01:02. | :01:08.
BBC's Rupert Wingfield-Hayes is in Tacloban where he spoke to some of | :01:09. | :01:13.
the children affected. Hello there. Hello. How are you | :01:14. | :01:18.
Fine. What are you waiting - what are you doing here? Waiting for | :01:19. | :01:24.
rice. Are you hungry? Yes. Yes. Do you have any food? No. No food. When | :01:25. | :01:34.
did you eat? Did you eat today? Yes. You ate today? No food. This is the | :01:35. | :01:41.
really big issue now here, people lost all their food, their rice was | :01:42. | :01:45.
damaged in the storm. It's now the fifth day since the storm. Supplies | :01:46. | :01:48.
are running out. You can see the result. There's still a sense that | :01:49. | :01:52.
aid is not getting in here. At the airport there are planes coming in. | :01:53. | :01:56.
But we don't see any of it here The situation is becoming more and more | :01:57. | :02:01.
tense. More and more hunger, people are getting increasingly desperate. | :02:02. | :02:08.
What is the world doing now to try to get help to thousands of people, | :02:09. | :02:13.
many of them kids, whose lives have been turned upside down by the | :02:14. | :02:16.
typhoon? I have been looking into it. The typhoon has left thousands | :02:17. | :02:20.
of people without food or shelter and in desperate need of help. The | :02:21. | :02:25.
United Nations, which represents 193 countries around the globe, has | :02:26. | :02:30.
called on members to raise as much as 190 million from the public. But | :02:31. | :02:35.
governments have also pledged to send aid. David Cameron has said the | :02:36. | :02:43.
UK will give 10 million and has sent a Navy ship. The journey will take | :02:44. | :02:51.
five days. The USA has promised about 12.5 million and is sending a | :02:52. | :02:56.
huge aircraft carrier ship from Hong Kong which they think could be there | :02:57. | :02:59.
in two or three days. Other countries have promised money, | :03:00. | :03:01.
too. This aid is coming to save people's | :03:02. | :03:12.
lives by giving them the food, water and shelter they need. Rebuilding | :03:13. | :03:15.
their homes, schools and everything else they had before the typhoon | :03:16. | :03:22.
will take months or even years. A reminder, if you are upset by | :03:23. | :03:25.
anything you have seen in the news we have loads of help and advice on | :03:26. | :03:30.
our website. You can also see a gallery showing how aid is getting | :03:31. | :03:38.
to people. Next, Jess Ennis-Hill, Nicola Adams | :03:39. | :03:40.
and Christine Ohuruogu - just some of the superstars that helped put | :03:41. | :03:43.
women's sport in the spotlight during last year's incredible | :03:44. | :03:46.
Olympics. But a group of MPs is concerned that it still might not be | :03:47. | :03:51.
as easy for girls to get into sport as it is for boys - and there may | :03:52. | :03:55.
not be enough female sports stars on TV to inspire girls to play. Today, | :03:56. | :04:00.
they've kicked off an investigation to work out what can be done about | :04:01. | :04:04.
it. And we've been asking you what you think might help get more girls | :04:05. | :04:08.
playing more sport. Class three from a school in Woking | :04:09. | :04:12.
reckon that girls would be encouraged to play if they saw more | :04:13. | :04:15.
girls playing sport on TV and in the news. | :04:16. | :04:22.
James said: Thank you for all the comments. We | :04:23. | :04:26.
will be talking about this in our later bulletin with a former England | :04:27. | :04:30.
netball international, Tracey Neville. Join us for that. | :04:31. | :04:39.
Last up - how about this for the ultimate bird's eye view! Scientists | :04:40. | :04:41.
in Exeter have been monitoring gannets using tiny cameras which | :04:42. | :04:44.
they tape to the seabirds' heads. And it gives an amazing insight into | :04:45. | :04:49.
how they live. Britain is home to 60% of the world's population and | :04:50. | :04:52.
the organisation says more needs to be done to protect them. That's it | :04:53. | :05:00.
for now. I will be back here at 6.50pm. See you then. Bye. | :05:01. | :05:01. |
