It's Thursday 15th November, Leah and Ricky here with tonight's

:00:10.:00:13.

Newsround. Yep, we've taken over BBC One. We're live, it's just

:00:13.:00:17.

after five, coming up... He's in charge of more than one

:00:17.:00:23.

billion people, China's new leader. A work of art, the best goal ever?

:00:23.:00:27.

We look at how Zlatan did it. And we take a look at the world's

:00:27.:00:37.
:00:37.:00:48.

First, though, we're talking about this man. He may not look familiar,

:00:48.:00:51.

but today he was put in charge of one of the most powerful countries

:00:51.:00:55.

in the world. Xi Jinping is China's new leader, so who is he and why do

:00:55.:01:00.

you need to know? I've been looking into this one.

:01:00.:01:04.

China. It has the world's second biggest economy and is home to more

:01:04.:01:08.

than a billion people. And with millions of Chinese people living

:01:08.:01:10.

around the world, like here in Manchester, the country's influence

:01:10.:01:15.

can be seen in many places. Because it's so powerful, the decisions

:01:15.:01:18.

made by its leaders have a huge impact on countries all over the

:01:18.:01:22.

world. So everyone wants to know what the new leader Xi Jinping

:01:22.:01:28.

thinks, but no-one knows much about him. He's seen as a new type of

:01:28.:01:31.

leader for China. One of the reasons why, it may sound strange,

:01:31.:01:36.

is because he smiles a lot. That's seen as a good sign that he's more

:01:36.:01:40.

in touch with people. He likes US war films and his wife is a famous

:01:40.:01:45.

country singer. All this is important because the majority of

:01:45.:01:48.

people in China didn't actually get to choose their new leader. The

:01:48.:01:51.

country has just one party, the Communist Party, a huge

:01:51.:01:56.

organisation with more than 80m members. Every ten years, some of

:01:56.:01:59.

the top party members meet to decide who their new leader should

:01:59.:02:04.

be. But really it's just for show. The real decisions are made by the

:02:04.:02:08.

older party leaders well ahead of the gathering. When Xi was growing

:02:08.:02:11.

up, the party governed almost every aspect of people's lives, but over

:02:11.:02:15.

the last ten years China has changed a lot. Citizens are now

:02:15.:02:20.

more critical of the government and expect more from them. For a long

:02:20.:02:23.

time, the government has controlled what people read and watch. Access

:02:23.:02:26.

to websites like Facebook is restricted and even channels like

:02:26.:02:36.
:02:36.:02:37.

BBC World are sometimes censored. Damian Grammaticas's report that we

:02:37.:02:41.

have just seen was broadcast on BBC World news in the last few hours.

:02:41.:02:46.

The Chinese cut out all those interviews with dissidents, it is

:02:46.:02:50.

something they really do not like. There is still a huge difference

:02:50.:02:53.

between the rich and the poor in China, and people are hopeful that

:02:53.:02:56.

Xi is the leader to do something about it.

:02:56.:02:59.

Now if you were watching Newsround two years ago, you might remember

:02:59.:03:03.

seeing scenes like these. They were caused by a big explosion at an oil

:03:03.:03:06.

well off the coast of America. Now the company responsible for the oil

:03:07.:03:09.

spill has been ordered to pay billions of dollars by an American

:03:10.:03:13.

court. 11 workers died in the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the

:03:13.:03:17.

Gulf of Mexico. The oil leak took months to fix, and during that time

:03:17.:03:21.

millions of barrels of oil leaked into the sea, damaging wildlife. BP

:03:21.:03:25.

will pay a record fine of more than 2bn to the US government.

:03:25.:03:31.

That's on top of billions pounds its already paid out.

:03:31.:03:37.

Next up, was it the greatest goal ever? Despite being 30 yards from

:03:37.:03:39.

goal and facing the wrong way, Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic

:03:39.:03:42.

scored this beauty last night, giving Sweden a 4-2 win in their

:03:42.:03:48.

brand-new national stadium. Steven Gerrard said it was the best he'd

:03:48.:03:53.

ever seen. Roy Hodgson described it as extraordinary. So how did he do

:03:53.:04:03.

After a long ball over the top, Joe Hart did not clear the ball FA, but

:04:03.:04:08.

that did not seem a problem until the giant striker, Zlatan

:04:08.:04:14.

Ibrahimovic, launched this into the air, making contact with the ball

:04:14.:04:18.

80 ft off the ground. He has a black belt in taekwondo, which is

:04:18.:04:24.

why people say he can jump so high. From 30 yards away, the ball

:04:24.:04:29.

reached a height of 25 feet. Ryan Shawcross could not keep it out,

:04:29.:04:34.

and it went across the line for his fourth goal of the night. No wonder

:04:34.:04:40.

he is celebrating! But we will not Now, when ten-year-old Martha put

:04:40.:04:43.

pictures of her school dinners online, she never imagined it would

:04:43.:04:46.

help her raise thousands of pounds for children in Africa. But after

:04:46.:04:49.

her blog Never Seconds became an internet sensation, she asked the

:04:49.:04:52.

millions of readers it attracted to donate money. Now Martha has

:04:52.:04:55.

written a book about her journey from Scotland to Malawi to see how

:04:55.:04:58.

the cash she raised is being spent. She told Nel it all started because

:04:58.:05:08.
:05:08.:05:10.

she would always came home from school hungry. We were having

:05:10.:05:14.

pieces, hot dogs and stuff, they were not healthy and they were

:05:14.:05:19.

quite small as well. So we thought what we could do about it. Have

:05:19.:05:24.

your school dinners changed since she started writing the blog?

:05:24.:05:28.

now we are allowed as much bread, fruit and salad as we want, and we

:05:28.:05:35.

can come back for more fruit. Next, let's show you some dramatic

:05:35.:05:40.

pictures recorded in Japan yesterday. These tornados were

:05:40.:05:42.

captured sweeping across the ocean. They lasted for about ten minutes

:05:42.:05:45.

before disappearing when they reached the coast. Tornados are

:05:45.:05:48.

rare in Japan, but forecasters are warning people to watch out for

:05:48.:05:50.

more strange weather. A story of epic proportions now.

:05:50.:05:53.

Seven continents, seven days, seven super-long marathons. That is the

:05:53.:06:00.

challenge a doctor from Scotland is about to begin. His task will take

:06:00.:06:03.

him to Antarctica, South America, North America, Europe, Africa, Asia

:06:03.:06:13.
:06:13.:06:13.

One man, one mission, one mighty big adventure! Seven days across

:06:13.:06:17.

seven continents to complete seven ultra marathons, each longer than a

:06:17.:06:23.

normal marathon. Andrew Murray, not that one, will soon touched down in

:06:23.:06:27.

Antarctica and begin a gruelling journey that he hopes will

:06:27.:06:31.

encourage people to exercise. my way of seeing the world, it is

:06:31.:06:35.

something I really wanted to do. It is a minimum of 50 kilometres per

:06:35.:06:41.

day on foot, and I think that the total air miles is about 41,000.

:06:41.:06:46.

The GB from Edinburgh is no stranger to extreme running.

:06:46.:06:49.

Earlier this year he came first in a marathon at the North Pole, and

:06:49.:06:56.

before that he ran for 77 days, a total of 2659 miles from Scotland

:06:56.:07:01.

to the Sahara desert in Africa, amazing! This latest challenge will

:07:01.:07:05.

start in the cold expanses of Antarctica, then he will fly to

:07:05.:07:10.

Patagonia in South America, before travelling to Atlanta in the United

:07:10.:07:14.

States. By day four he will be beside the Thames in London, before

:07:14.:07:18.

adding to Cairo and the pyramids of Giza. Then he will cross the finish

:07:18.:07:22.

line in Dubai before hopefully making his final stop in Sydney,

:07:22.:07:27.

Australia. Phew! This is without doubt his toughest challenge yet,

:07:28.:07:32.

but with a packed programme it will not be plain sailing. There is the

:07:32.:07:35.

running, then the logistics, getting the flights towards native.

:07:35.:07:40.

I will not get much sleep, I will be Jack Black unbelievably. While

:07:40.:07:46.

most people would be put off by the aches and pains, just try stopping

:07:46.:07:55.

this man, he is a machine! And we thought running the London

:07:55.:07:59.

Marathon was tricky! Moving on now, and scientists have

:07:59.:08:01.

uncovered some of the secrets of the world's leggiest creature. It's

:08:02.:08:06.

a species of millipede with no fewer than 750 legs! Despite the

:08:06.:08:10.

name, most other millipedes only have an average of 62 legs. Experts

:08:10.:08:12.

think this one's special because its ancestors lived deep

:08:12.:08:15.

underground and needed more legs to burrow in the soil and cling to

:08:15.:08:25.
:08:25.:08:32.

How many people manage to fit into this car, you'll find all the

:08:32.:08:39.

details on the website, plenty more pictures, to. Now, Wallace and

:08:39.:08:42.

Gromit fans, there's only one Gromit, right? Wrong! Now there are

:08:42.:08:45.

60 of them and they're huge! These giant Gromits have been made

:08:45.:08:47.

specially to go on display in Bristol, the home of Aardman

:08:47.:08:50.

Animations, which makes Wallace and Gromit, and Shaun the Sheep. Each
