Double trouble tonight. Ricky and Leah here guiding you

:00:24.:00:27.

through today's top stories. We're coming to you live from

:00:27.:00:30.

Salford. Stick around for some of this.

:00:30.:00:33.

Hayley meets the Australian swimmers going for gold.

:00:33.:00:36.

How would you feel if, like President Obama, your parents

:00:36.:00:44.

smooched on the telly? We've got your worst embarrassing moments.

:00:44.:00:47.

There are warnings that more needs to be done to protect cyclists.

:00:47.:00:51.

Nearly 3,000 children were injured while out on their bikes last year.

:00:51.:00:55.

A report by MPs says more people are taking up cycling so it is

:00:55.:01:01.

important to act now to make our Cycling is one of the fastest

:01:01.:01:05.

growing sports in the UK. Around 3.5 million people take up a bit of

:01:05.:01:10.

cycling once a week and there are concerns that our cities aren't fit

:01:10.:01:15.

for cyclists. Today's report from MPs says more

:01:16.:01:19.

people are being injured on the roads because there aren't enough

:01:19.:01:22.

safe places for them to cycle. So what do they suggest?

:01:22.:01:27.

Well, new laws to make sure lorries have alarms when turning in towns.

:01:27.:01:32.

500 of the country's most dangerous junctions to be made safer, better

:01:32.:01:36.

cycle lanes and the speed limit to be cut to 20mph in residential

:01:36.:01:39.

areas. Lots of places in Britain have

:01:39.:01:44.

these cycle lanes that give cyclists their own space on at road

:01:44.:01:47.

and create distance between them and the cars, but they can be

:01:47.:01:50.

confusing. Sometimes they vanish and sometimes cars don't take

:01:50.:01:55.

notice of them. How safe do you feel on your bike? I used to not

:01:55.:01:59.

like going on the roads because I was nervous about cars behind me

:01:59.:02:02.

thinking that I'm going too slow or stuff.

:02:02.:02:06.

If you know what you're doing, it is OK.

:02:07.:02:15.

Cyclists need to be more confident. Campaigners argue cyclist would be

:02:15.:02:21.

safer if Britain is more like cycle-friendly Amsterdam. Cyclists

:02:21.:02:24.

have separate lanes and their own sets of traffic lights which keeps

:02:24.:02:28.

them away from other road users. We asked the Government what they are

:02:28.:02:33.

doing to make the roads safer. They said they spend 11 million a year

:02:33.:02:37.

on training programmes for kids and they will be looking into the

:02:37.:02:40.

suggestions made in the report. For now, I will leave you with cycling

:02:40.:02:44.

advice from these guys. Always make sure your bike is safe,

:02:45.:02:48.

your tyres are pumped up and your brakes are working.

:02:48.:02:51.

Make sure you pay attention on the road. Don't listen to music or go

:02:51.:02:54.

on your phone. I didn't look good on the bike

:02:54.:03:02.

there, did I? I think I was on the wrong gear.

:03:02.:03:08.

Bradley Wiggins has retained the yellow jersey in the Tour de France.

:03:08.:03:12.

Oscar Pistorius is set to make history at the Olympics in the next

:03:12.:03:15.

few weeks when he becomes the first double amputee to compete at the

:03:15.:03:20.

Games. He lost both of his legs when he was a baby, but it didn't

:03:20.:03:23.

stop him doing great things. Now some people think his blades give

:03:23.:03:26.

him an unfair advantage, but this is what he had to say about

:03:26.:03:31.

representing South Africa in the 400 meters.

:03:31.:03:34.

It hit me in the beginning, but it wasn't like it was really, it

:03:34.:03:38.

didn't really sink in immediately. I woke up the next day and I

:03:38.:03:43.

couldn't believe it. It has been so many years of a lot of people's

:03:43.:03:48.

time invested into me and effort and a lot of my own sacrifices and

:03:48.:03:52.

hard work. I think I won't believe it until

:03:52.:03:55.

I'm there in London on the starting blocks.

:03:55.:03:58.

So plenty of Olympic athletes are currently on British soil. Training

:03:59.:04:02.

at universities and schools all over the place. Lots of you have

:04:02.:04:04.

spotted sports starts training where you live. Today Hayley

:04:04.:04:09.

tracked down some Aussie swimmers right here in Manchester. Now this

:04:09.:04:13.

may look like your every day, average, end of school term

:04:13.:04:17.

swimming competition, but today, these guys have got a little

:04:17.:04:22.

special helping hand from these lot! They are the Australian

:04:22.:04:25.

Olympic swimming team. So how are you finding it in Manchester and in

:04:25.:04:30.

Britain? It is good. There is a good vibe everywhere and everyone

:04:30.:04:35.

is happy. All the excitement about the Olympics gets us excited.

:04:35.:04:39.

When you are swimming in the Olympics, your families will be in

:04:39.:04:43.

Australia in the dark asleep? family are coming over. They will

:04:43.:04:48.

find it interesting. They will be in the stands most of the time'

:04:48.:04:54.

racing. Have you got any tips for these lot?

:04:54.:04:58.

Take tips from the Aussies and not the English!

:04:58.:05:02.

Fighting talk. Fighting talk. The Olympians have been taking over

:05:02.:05:06.

this pool, but now it is time for the real stars to give it a go.

:05:06.:05:11.

Come on, guys. What's it like having the Olympians

:05:11.:05:15.

training you? Like a dream come true.

:05:15.:05:21.

Do you feel they have improved your swimming techniques? Very much.

:05:21.:05:26.

There is just nine days to go until the start of the Olympics. You

:05:26.:05:28.

never know, with these guys style, they could be joining them in the

:05:29.:05:30.

future. Thanks, Hayley.

:05:31.:05:34.

One of the British swimmers who'll be taking to the water in the next

:05:34.:05:37.

few weeks is medallist Keri-Anne Payne. In 2008, she won a silver

:05:37.:05:41.

medal at her first ever Olympics in the 10 kilometre open water race.

:05:41.:05:51.
:05:51.:05:54.

Here's how it all went for her. I'm Keri-anne Payne. On the day of

:05:54.:05:58.

my event, it was fantastic. I was nervous the night before. I didn't

:05:58.:06:01.

get all that much sleep and then I had to get up really, really early

:06:01.:06:07.

at 4am to have food because my event lasts for two hours. Referee

:06:07.:06:11.

speaking to us before we got into the race telling us the course

:06:11.:06:15.

details and telling us to be good, making sure nobody hurt anyone

:06:15.:06:21.

during the race. It was a surreal experience and getting in. All the

:06:21.:06:25.

nerves just go away. I don't know how that works, but it did, getting

:06:25.:06:29.

in and just getting on with the swim and getting on with what I

:06:29.:06:35.

trained for so many years to do was amazing and to get the result was a

:06:35.:06:39.

dream come true. I came out with the silver medal and I was so happy

:06:39.:06:43.

and so proud of myself for achieving what I achieved and

:06:43.:06:48.

knowing that all that hard work had paid off.

:06:48.:06:51.

All day we've been asking you online what embarrassing things

:06:51.:06:55.

your parents do. Mine has to be dad dancing, but how about parents

:06:55.:07:00.

smooching on the telly? That's what President Obama and his wife

:07:00.:07:03.

Michelle did at a basketball game this week. They were there with

:07:03.:07:08.

their family when they were caught on the stadium camera. He wasn't

:07:08.:07:11.

shy and planted a big smacker on Michelle's lips. Low pressure Their

:07:11.:07:14.

daughter Malia looked like she didn't mind too much, but watching

:07:14.:07:17.

those pictures got us thinking. What's the most embarrassing thing

:07:17.:07:20.

your mum and dad have ever done? We've had loads of comments in from

:07:20.:07:25.

you guys. Anam from London has been in touch to say, "Every time I go

:07:25.:07:28.

shopping with my parents, my dad always starts to sing Indian songs

:07:28.:07:31.

in public and I always start to blush when people start to stare."

:07:31.:07:35.

Milly from Bath also got in touch, she said my mum and I went clothes

:07:35.:07:39.

shopping and my mum held up a pair of pink shorts for me to try on. I

:07:39.:07:42.

realised everyone was staring at me because my mum had plucked them out

:07:42.:07:44.

of another person's trolley by mistake!

:07:44.:07:47.

And the last one from Annabel from Gloucestershire, "If we go out and

:07:47.:07:51.

I see my friends my parents hold hands and kiss each other. I get

:07:51.:07:56.

really embarrassed, but they find it funny!" Next to some pictures

:07:56.:08:00.

that look terrifying. These shots show a plane being struck by

:08:00.:08:06.

lightning. It's not as dangerous as it looks and actually happens quite

:08:06.:08:10.

a lot. If you want to find out how engineers make planes lightning

:08:10.:08:18.

proof, head over to the Newsround website.

:08:18.:08:21.

If you think you're good at making things out of Lego, you might want

:08:22.:08:26.

to check this first. This is a replica of a jet engine and it's

:08:26.:08:29.

made entirely of the little plastic bricks. It took eight weeks to make

:08:29.:08:34.

and it's got over 150,000 pieces. It even shows all the working parts

:08:34.:08:40.

of the engines. Ric Ricky don't go near that!

:08:40.:08:44.

Now if you're a fan of painting and horses then this next story is for

:08:44.:08:50.

you. This is Justin the painting horse. He's been so successful he's

:08:50.:08:55.
