Hi, welcome to Newsround. Today sees the stars from the world

of pop do battle for a Brit. And tapeworms, leeches and head lice

- we meet the TV doctor who's infested himself with all of them!

First, we're going to Ukraine in eastern Europe, where violent

clashes have been going on overnight in the capital Kiev between police

and anti-government protesters. Riot police have been firing explosives,

trying to evict people from the main protest camp, which has been in

place since unrest began nearly three months ago. But protesters

have been fighting back against the police - at least 25 people have

died in this latest violence. The crisis started over whether Ukraine

should have closer ties with the European Union or with Russia.

Next, if you're like me, then last summer - the hottest for many years

- will seem like a long time ago. But here's a bit of good news. New

research out today suggests that last year's good weather was good

news for Britain's farmland butterflies. The Wider Countryside

Butterfly Survey recorded almost double the number of insects

compared with 2012. The report says that sunny weather provided perfect

breeding conditions for butterflies. Well, today is one of the biggest

dates in the calendar for British music, the BRIT Awards. Loads of big

stars from the world of pop will be at London O2's Arena, hoping to bag

a Brit. The likes of Ellie Goulding, Jessie J, Rudimental and Lorde are

just some of those battling it out. And this afternoon, our very own

Ayshah will be down live on the red carpet bringing you all the latest.

Next up - leeches, tapeworms and head lice. Not the nicest companions

for most of us, but one TV doctor's decided to get a lot more closely

acquinted with them all! This is Dr Michael Mosley, a man prepared to

put his body through almost anything, all in the name of

science. In a new BBC documentary, he infests himself with a bunch of

gruesome parasites to see how they affect the human body. Jenny has

this one. Bloodsucking leeches, stomach

turning tapeworms and infectious head lice. Not the sort of thing you

would choose to have wriggling around your body if you could help

it. Unless you are this doctor! I had a go with various different

parasites. I started off with tapeworm. It was a little bit

disgusting, I have to say. They were like jelly babies but not very

sweet. Then I swallowed this camera with a glass of water. It sends

pictures to a transmitter and from there to a screen. So you can

actually see your stomach live. That is it! That is the tapeworm. You can

see it. God, that is horrible. Next up, leeches. I basically attached

back to my arm and it started to suck. It was actually quite pleasant

and it grew about eight times the size it was. It drank quite a lot of

blood and then it dropped off. They make nice pets. My daughter took my

leech and unfortunately it escaped after a few months and was eaten by

the cat. Doctor Michael says he is doing this to help scientists at

Salford University in their research into parasites and the diseases they

spread. So, after that, what did they learn? The message for me is

parasites are genius and fascinating. And a little bit

disgusting. It was a bad night for Manchester

City in the Champions League as they lost 2-0 at home to Barcelona.

Tonight, Arsenal take on reigning champions Bayern Munich. Gunners

boss Arsene Wenger has seen his side go out in the first knockout round

in the last three seasons. He's been weighing up his team's chances. We

know that we face the favourite of the competition and what we have is

believed, because on the opposite, we've had many big aims in the

champions league and the FA Cup, we played against Tottenham and

Liverpool. We know that in every single game, we have absolutely to

be 100%. Winter sports now, and it's a big

day in the curling, and an even bigger day for Team GB, with both

the men and woman's sides playing for a place in the final. Eve

Muirhead and co go up against Canada at 10am, whilst the men's side take

on Sweden at three o'clock this afternoon.
