Hello. We are live after five and you're watching Newsround. Ore and | :00:20. | :00:24.
Hayley with you today. We have a creepy Crawley programme for you. | :00:24. | :00:29.
On the way, beekeeping at school? Better than maths? And I had been | :00:29. | :00:34.
finding out why we are about to be invaded by spiders. But first, | :00:35. | :00:38.
dozens of people at a travellers' camp at Essex have won a last- | :00:38. | :00:42.
minute decision to delay their addiction. For a decade, Dale Farm | :00:43. | :00:47.
has been home for hundreds of people living there illegally. The | :00:47. | :00:50.
local council had planned to clear the legal part of the site today | :00:50. | :00:53.
but there was not much progress because protesters were blocking | :00:53. | :00:57.
the way. Now the travellers will have another chance to argue their | :00:57. | :01:01.
case in court on Friday. I went down this afternoon and there is a | :01:01. | :01:07.
bit of tension in the air force up this is Dale Farm, the largest | :01:07. | :01:10.
unofficial travellers' site in the UK. Even though they call | :01:10. | :01:13.
themselves travellers, many of the people here say this is their | :01:13. | :01:17.
permanent home. After a ten-year tug-of-war between them and the | :01:17. | :01:22.
council, they are finally being told to leave. As far as we can go, | :01:22. | :01:28.
this is the front of the site. can get an idea of how big this is, | :01:28. | :01:32.
because of the amount of media better here. The activists are | :01:32. | :01:36.
showing their support for the family's inside. The atmosphere is | :01:36. | :01:41.
calm, but that might not be the case for much longer. -- the | :01:41. | :01:45.
families inside. Some of the land is protected countryside and the | :01:45. | :01:49.
travellers did not have permission to build on it. The council say | :01:49. | :01:52.
that 51 of these homes were built illegally and the family's living | :01:52. | :01:56.
there now have to go. Many of these children have grown up here and | :01:56. | :01:59.
some of them go to the local school. The thought of leaving his pretty | :01:59. | :02:09.
:02:09. | :02:10. | ||
scary. I had no sleep last night. If I had to move, I would have no | :02:10. | :02:17.
education or schooling. My friends would be gone. It would be hard to | :02:17. | :02:21.
make new friends. The council say they have tried everything to find | :02:21. | :02:26.
a peaceful solution. They say they have to treat the travellers the | :02:26. | :02:31.
same as everyone else and everyone has to obey the law. They have | :02:31. | :02:34.
offered houses to some of the travellers and say they could move | :02:34. | :02:37.
to private caravan parks if they would like. The people living here | :02:38. | :02:42.
say this is their home and they are prepared to fight for it. News of | :02:42. | :02:46.
an amazing medical achievement. Doctors have successfully separated | :02:47. | :02:51.
twin goals born joined at the head. Rital and Ritag from the Sudan | :02:51. | :02:54.
could not see each other before the operation but now they're getting | :02:54. | :03:01.
to know each other after surgeons managed to separate them. | :03:01. | :03:06.
summer is pretty much over. The nights are drawing in. It might | :03:06. | :03:09.
mean you are spending more time indoors. And you will not be alone | :03:09. | :03:16.
because so are these. Spiders. We can expect to see a lot more of | :03:16. | :03:20.
them this autumn. I had been finding out why, getting up close | :03:20. | :03:27.
and personal with some of the furry guys here at Newsround Towers. | :03:27. | :03:30.
is the time of year again will we get to meet our eight-legged | :03:30. | :03:34.
friends. This year, expect to see even more of them. It is all down | :03:34. | :03:39.
to the British weather, warm spring and wet summer mean that these guys | :03:40. | :03:45.
have been breeding like crazy. Here are three of the most common. First | :03:45. | :03:50.
up, the common house spider. Most likely to be seen scuttling across | :03:50. | :03:56.
the floor. Next, the daddylonglegs, lurking in the corner. Andy orb web | :03:56. | :04:00.
spider, hanging around on washing lines and windows frames. Why are | :04:00. | :04:05.
they coming in to our homes? In the Amateur at this time of the year, | :04:05. | :04:12.
so we have adult males looking for adult females. What is the best way | :04:12. | :04:18.
to get rid of spiders? The classic jam-jar and paper trek. I put my | :04:18. | :04:27.
glass over the top. Have I got 10? -- have I got it in? They have it. | :04:27. | :04:31.
It could be a good time to spot them, love them or loathe them. | :04:31. | :04:36.
Remember, they are probably just a little bit lonely. | :04:36. | :04:40.
Nice. Spiders are all well and good, but can they make honey? I don't | :04:40. | :04:45.
think so. And can you have special lessons on them at school? Can you? | :04:45. | :04:53.
I don't know, but I know that you can with these. At the school in | :04:53. | :04:58.
London, children have taken up beekeeping. We do the normal | :04:59. | :05:02.
subjects like maths and English, but we also have a special theme to | :05:02. | :05:08.
our subjects, which is beekeeping. I have been in the beekeeping club | :05:08. | :05:13.
for two years. I think that these are pretty amazing. They gather | :05:13. | :05:19.
together to work as a team and make honey. We wear special since so | :05:19. | :05:25.
that if they try to get through the tiny holes, they cannot stay in us. | :05:25. | :05:30.
The honey is used by the Cookery Club. My favourite bit about | :05:30. | :05:36.
beekeeping is extracting the honey. You can see the honey coming out of | :05:36. | :05:40.
the cones. Beekeeping is good because it helps to communicate | :05:40. | :05:45.
with the class. We have found that many of the children of find it | :05:45. | :05:48.
difficult and challenging at school come along and find it relaxing | :05:48. | :05:52.
working with the bees. It has improved their behaviour. What is | :05:53. | :05:57.
your favourite for and about beekeeping? My favourite thing is | :05:57. | :06:01.
getting to spend more time with the animals in the garden. They give us | :06:01. | :06:05.
honey and you know they are from the govern -- from the garden. It | :06:05. | :06:09.
is organic and nice. I like these because without them we would not | :06:09. | :06:16.
have flowers. This is the empty frames that we put into the hive. | :06:16. | :06:24.
And this is what the honey bees have made. You can see all their | :06:24. | :06:29.
honey underneath the wax. The honey is really tasty. It is so tasty, | :06:29. | :06:33.
there is a waiting list of people who want to buy it. I think | :06:33. | :06:40.
beekeeping is a good idea for schools. Good luck. This is Jian, | :06:40. | :06:46.
reporting for Newsround. And here is a pot of honey! Of the good | :06:46. | :06:52.
stuff. Thank you very much Jian. Who needs a waiting list when we | :06:52. | :06:56.
can get it for free. That is good. Have you ever heard the phrase, a | :06:57. | :07:01.
bad day at the office? I reckon that definitely applies to | :07:01. | :07:06.
yesterday's football match between Man United and Chelsea. United won | :07:06. | :07:11.
3-1 but the game was more memorable for Mrs than the goals. Wayne | :07:11. | :07:16.
Rooney had a shocker with that penalty. But he would not have felt | :07:16. | :07:19.
that for long because later in the game, this happened. Fernando | :07:19. | :07:26. |
