You're watching Newsround with Monday's mix of stories. I'm Ricky. | :00:00. | :00:08.
On the way. Do you know what energy drinks do to your body? Is this the | :00:09. | :00:15.
most exciting space mission of 2014? Can we land on a speeding comet? | :00:16. | :00:22.
First to a big problem for those trying to bring peace to Syria. A | :00:23. | :00:28.
civil war has been raging there for nearly three years between | :00:29. | :00:31.
government forces and the people who want them out of power. Many | :00:32. | :00:34.
thousands have been killed, and millions more fled the country. Now, | :00:35. | :00:38.
the main group against the Syrian government have said they won't join | :00:39. | :00:41.
in peace talks, because they're unhappy that the UN has invited Iran | :00:42. | :00:45.
too. Iran has supported Syria's government in the war, providing | :00:46. | :00:48.
weapons to President Assad's forces, but the UN wanted Iran to be part of | :00:49. | :00:51.
the solution. Next, we're talking energy drinks, | :00:52. | :00:59.
soft drinks with very high levels of caffeine and sugar. A Government | :01:00. | :01:02.
advisor on school meals has said they're harmful to kids and | :01:03. | :01:05.
shouldn't be allowed in schools. You've been chatting about this on | :01:06. | :01:07.
the website. Caitlin in Warrington reckons they | :01:08. | :01:15.
shouldn't be banned, saying they keep you awake, so you're more | :01:16. | :01:18.
likely to pay attention. But Luke in Clevedon doesn't like them, because | :01:19. | :01:22.
he says they make him aggressive and give him headaches. | :01:23. | :01:26.
Energy drinks, high in sugar and high in caffeine, but also not | :01:27. | :01:31.
suitable for children. A government adviser on healthy school meals is | :01:32. | :01:34.
worried more kids are drinking them regularly. It could be doing them | :01:35. | :01:39.
harm. It has a hugely damaging effect on their ability to | :01:40. | :01:43.
concentrate, how they feel, and it is having health effects. But what | :01:44. | :01:50.
does it do to your body? It can raise BP, heart rate, affect sleep | :01:51. | :01:56.
patterns, and also affect rain development. They are classed as | :01:57. | :02:04.
addictive, they should not be used in children's drinks at all. Are you | :02:05. | :02:12.
concerned? I do not drink them, but I am an athlete, so to get ready for | :02:13. | :02:17.
a race, I would have a set of one. I would not be drinking them all of | :02:18. | :02:25.
the time. The shops are to blame, they sell them. I am worried about a | :02:26. | :02:31.
friend, they drink and energy drink everyday. I do not think it is | :02:32. | :02:38.
healthy. The British Soft Drinks Association say hi caffeine and high | :02:39. | :02:42.
sugar are not suitable for drinks -- for children. But kids are still | :02:43. | :02:48.
drinking them, and health experts warn more needs to be done to stop | :02:49. | :02:49.
them. Next to one of the most daring space | :02:50. | :02:53.
missions ever attempted, landing on a comet. A European spacecraft | :02:54. | :02:56.
that's been asleep in space for two and a half years is being woken up | :02:57. | :03:00.
today to embark on its daunting task. | :03:01. | :03:04.
A comet. It's a massive lump of ice and rock that's hurtling through | :03:05. | :03:08.
space. And scientists are hoping to land on one. That job is down to the | :03:09. | :03:12.
Rosetta spacecraft, which was launched back in 2004. It's | :03:13. | :03:16.
travelled hundreds of millions of kilometres through our solar system, | :03:17. | :03:19.
but has been hibernating for the past two and a half years to save | :03:20. | :03:25.
energy. This morning, an alarm clock was triggered to wake up Rosetta for | :03:26. | :03:29.
the final, and riskiest, part of its mission. It has to chase after Comet | :03:30. | :03:33.
67P, a target of just four kilometres across, and then send out | :03:34. | :03:40.
a robot to land on its icy surface. It's something that has never been | :03:41. | :03:49.
tried before. One of the big questions is where the Earth got its | :03:50. | :03:54.
water from. In this comet, we have a fragment of something that formed | :03:55. | :03:57.
four and a half billion years ago, and it might tell us the sorts of | :03:58. | :04:00.
things that delivered water to the Earth. We can test that idea that | :04:01. | :04:07.
comets might have been a source of the Earth's water. The first signal | :04:08. | :04:13.
should be received this evening. Until then, a lot of nervous | :04:14. | :04:16.
scientists watching and waiting for a sign. | :04:17. | :04:21.
Andy Murray is through to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open | :04:22. | :04:24.
after overcoming France's Stephane Robert in four sets. He'll face the | :04:25. | :04:27.
mighty Roger Federer next. Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal made it | :04:28. | :04:30.
through in straight sets, but there was a big shock in the women's draw, | :04:31. | :04:34.
as Maria Sharapova was beaten by Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova. | :04:35. | :04:38.
And, as always, there's plenty on the website, including a brilliant | :04:39. | :04:41.
gallery of a guy who's best mates with a Bengal tiger. And, check out | :04:42. | :04:45.
our amazing interview with Lewis Clarke, the 16-year-old who's just | :04:46. | :04:48.
become the youngest person to make it to the South Pole on foot! | :04:49. | :04:53.
That's all from me. Newsround's back right here at 6:50pm with another | :04:54. | :04:56.
update. See you then. | :04:57. | :04:59. |
