But first - there's been angry exchanges on the first day of

special talks aimed at ending the war in Syria today. Almost

two-and-a-half million people have fled the country and a hundred

thousand have died since the conflict between government forces

and rebel groups, who want them out, started three years ago. The talks

in Switzerland will bring the two sides face-to-face for the first

time to try and stop the violence. But today both blamed the other for

what's happening. The BBC's Imogen Foulkes is at the talks and said

reaching any agreement will be difficult. The opposition wants the

President Assad to leave power, the government doesn't want to discuss

that. So, everybody is saying the negotiations will be slow and

difficult. Moving on - Andy Murray says he's

played as well as he could after being knocked out of the Australian

Open today He lost his quarter final to Roger Federer in four sets,

despite a brief comeback in the third. Murray said playing his first

major tournament since returning from a back injury was always going

to be difficult. I don't know how many players have come back from

surgery and won the first Grand Slam, it is unlikely to happen. I

need to use this as a stepping stone to getting better.

It's being reported that Man United have made a ?35 million bid for

Chelsea's Juan Mata. The Spanish star was voted the Blues' Player Of

The Year for the last two years but has fallen out of favour with boss

Jose Mourinho. Meanwhile Team GB's named their

biggest winter Olympic squad in a quarter of a century for the Sochi

games in Russia next month. There's a record 19 skiers and snowboarders,

including freestyler James Woods. Ex-Olympic sprinter Craig

Pickering's been picked for the bobsleigh crew.

And joining them at the Games is likely to be US Paralympian Tatyana

McFadden. She was born with a condition called spina-bifida and

walked on her hands until she was six. She was then adopted and

encouraged to take up sport and hasn't looked back since.

Last year she won every paralympic athletics race you can imagine

including the London marathon. Now she's trying her hand at winter

sports and has just won the US trials. It is about the mental

battle, putting that into sports or your personal life, I think that

makes you I am. You can see much more about
