Hello, you're watching Newsround live on CBBC this Saturday | :00:00. | :00:07.
lunchtime. I'm Jenny, and on the way: We check out the Japanese | :00:08. | :00:12.
island that keeps on growing. We've got the footy story that | :00:13. | :00:22.
really matters. And in Canterbury, these girls are | :00:23. | :00:23.
making history. First, the Syrian government and | :00:24. | :00:32.
main opposition have met in the same room, along with world leaders, at | :00:33. | :00:35.
peace talks in Switzerland. The aim of the talks is to try and end | :00:36. | :00:40.
Syria's three year civil war. The two sides have blamed each other for | :00:41. | :00:44.
a lack of progress so far. They didn't talk directly to each other, | :00:45. | :00:48.
but the short meeting is being seen as an important step forward. | :00:49. | :00:52.
Next, more heavy rain is on the way this weekend. And it could cause big | :00:53. | :00:58.
problems for areas already affected by the flooding. Things are really | :00:59. | :01:01.
bad in Somerset in the west of England. A massive area has been | :01:02. | :01:05.
underwater for the past three weeks. In this village, families are having | :01:06. | :01:08.
to use boats to go anywhere. Officials are calling it a major | :01:09. | :01:11.
incident, which means the council can't deal with it alone, and could | :01:12. | :01:14.
call in the military for help. Next up, to the little bit of Japan | :01:15. | :01:19.
that's popped up out of the sea, and just keeps growing and growing! When | :01:20. | :01:22.
a volcano erupted off the coast of Japan in November it started to form | :01:23. | :01:26.
a mini island and it's still not stopped. | :01:27. | :01:28.
Next up, one of the Premier League's biggest | :01:29. | :01:34.
when it started, scientists thought it would not last. They thought the | :01:35. | :01:39.
tiny island would disappear within weeks. But they were wrong. And a | :01:40. | :01:44.
month later it was three times bigger. The little island even | :01:45. | :01:51.
overtook the island next door and it has become so famous, people started | :01:52. | :01:57.
to think up names. One blogger has named its nippy island. You can see | :01:58. | :02:01.
why. From certain angles, it looks like a certain famous cartoon | :02:02. | :02:07.
character. -- Snoopy island. At least, it did. Today, 30 times the | :02:08. | :02:14.
size, it is now so big that Japan is having to rethink the size of its | :02:15. | :02:17.
country. And it is getting bigger all the time. | :02:18. | :02:21.
Next up, one of the Premier League's biggest stars has officially swapped | :02:22. | :02:24.
Chelsea for Manchester United for a club record, thought to be ?37 | :02:25. | :02:26.
million pounds. The Spanish midfielder Juan Matter is thought to | :02:27. | :02:30.
be having his medical today, before he officially signs for the team. | :02:31. | :02:35.
And tennis has a new champion. China's Li Na has won at the | :02:36. | :02:38.
Australian Open for the first time. The world number four seed beat | :02:39. | :02:41.
Dominika Cibulkova in straight sets in the Women's Singles final. | :02:42. | :02:45.
Tomorrow, it's the Men's final. Spain's Rafa Nadal will meet | :02:46. | :02:50.
Stanislas Wawrinka from Switzerland. Next to something a bit more | :02:51. | :02:54.
relaxing. For the first time in its long history a girls' choir has been | :02:55. | :02:57.
created for Canterbury Cathedral. Girls from the surrounding area | :02:58. | :03:00.
auditioned to become members of the new choir and this evening they will | :03:01. | :03:03.
give their first performance at a service in the Cathedral. Nel has | :03:04. | :03:12.
been to see them in rehearsal. Canterbury has been an important | :03:13. | :03:16.
race of worship for the Church of England for well over 1000 years. It | :03:17. | :03:21.
is where the head of the church, the Archbishop, is based and lots of | :03:22. | :03:24.
important services are held here. But the hundreds of years, it has | :03:25. | :03:27.
been the boys choir that have formed in important services in the | :03:28. | :03:34.
cathedral. Now it is the girl's turn. These 16 girls have been | :03:35. | :03:37.
chosen to form the first-ever girls' choir. We have got to prove | :03:38. | :03:44.
ourselves and prove we are just as capable as the boys. There is with | :03:45. | :03:47.
pressure but I am using those nerves to build up my confidence. I am | :03:48. | :03:52.
really excited, I think it is something I will remember for the | :03:53. | :03:55.
rest of my life. This is a very important rehearsal ahead of their | :03:56. | :03:59.
first performance. It is going to be momentous, loads of people are going | :04:00. | :04:03.
to be here to hear us. It is going to be great. What was it like the | :04:04. | :04:08.
first time the girls got together to practice? We knew they were going to | :04:09. | :04:13.
be good, we had heard them at auditions and we knew there were | :04:14. | :04:17.
good quality forces but I am old over how competently they came in. | :04:18. | :04:22.
There were nerves obviously but nonetheless they really threw | :04:23. | :04:24.
themselves into it and seemed to really enjoy it. This choir will now | :04:25. | :04:29.
perform in the Cathedral on a regular basis. It is an important | :04:30. | :04:32.
change to the history of this amazing building. It is a landmark | :04:33. | :04:38.
occasion, we are taking into the formal singing of the cathedral, | :04:39. | :04:42.
girls' voices. It will be lovely and everyone will be cheerful about it. | :04:43. | :04:49.
I might not be an expert, but... It sounds pretty good to me! | :04:50. | :04:53.
Next time you're having a relaxing stroll around your balcony on | :04:54. | :04:56.
holiday, don't forget to look behind you. This Scottish couple staying in | :04:57. | :04:59.
America somehow didn't notice the hairy visitor in the background. | :05:00. | :05:02.
Luckily the pair and the bear were fine after their adventure. And from | :05:03. | :05:06.
bear cubs... To lion cubs! And these little guys | :05:07. | :05:11.
are causing a big stir at San Diego Zoo in America. The six-week-old | :05:12. | :05:14.
brother and sister are doing really well, and are growing up super fast, | :05:15. | :05:19.
according to staff there. The pair are now concentrating on important | :05:20. | :05:22.
lion stuff, like learning to climb and jump. | :05:23. | :05:27.
And if you love animal stories, there's a whole page on the | :05:28. | :05:30.
Newsround website. Find out about a brand new type of dolphin and check | :05:31. | :05:34.
out a mysterious beaver in Devon. But if gaming is more your thing, | :05:35. | :05:37.
we've got news of a super-rare Nintendo game. | :05:38. | :05:41.
That's it, I'm out of time this Saturday lunchtime. I'm back with | :05:42. | :05:45.
