Afternoon, guys. I'm Ayshah with your after-school headlines. Coming

:00:00.:00:13.

your way in the next five: people have been honking their horns and

:00:14.:00:16.

taking pictures. How it feels to be a Sochi superstar back on home soil.

:00:17.:00:20.

And one of the cutest penguin chicks you'll ever see. This is Newsround.

:00:21.:00:26.

First, the arrival of a new baby is usually a time of happiness and

:00:27.:00:31.

celebration here in the UK. But in many poorer countries around the

:00:32.:00:33.

world, it can be a totally different story. Giving birth can be a fight

:00:34.:00:38.

for survival for both mother and child because of a lack of proper

:00:39.:00:42.

health care. The charity Save The Children is calling on world leaders

:00:43.:00:45.

to do more to give mothers and babies in poorer countries a better

:00:46.:00:49.

chance. One of the world's most dangerous places to give birth is

:00:50.:00:53.

South Sudan in Africa, as Ricky's been finding out.

:00:54.:00:58.

In scorching 37 degree Celsius heat, a group of pregnant women are

:00:59.:01:03.

walking to their baby class. This midwife who helps to deliver babies

:01:04.:01:06.

is teaching them about staying healthy and taking care of their

:01:07.:01:11.

newborns. She's one of just 300 midwives in South Sudan. In the UK,

:01:12.:01:17.

we have around 40,000. But the charity Save The Children is working

:01:18.:01:20.

to help change things. The BBC's George Alagiah has been to a

:01:21.:01:24.

hospital which offers health care to mothers and babies. To our eyes, it

:01:25.:01:33.

may not look like much but this hospital really has an incredibly

:01:34.:01:36.

good record when it comes to looking after mothers and their children.

:01:37.:01:41.

That is not the case elsewhere in this country. Nearly half of all

:01:42.:01:45.

pregnant women never get anywhere near a clinic. They deliver their

:01:46.:01:50.

babies entirely on their own without any skilled assistance. Here it is

:01:51.:01:54.

an entirely different story. They have something like ten midwives

:01:55.:01:58.

here. There are only 300 in the whole country. This hospital saves

:01:59.:02:03.

lives for mothers and babies but that is not the case for the rest of

:02:04.:02:09.

South Sudan or the world. We need midwives available at every birth so

:02:10.:02:18.

that no mother gives birth alone. We know it can be done and if it can be

:02:19.:02:21.

done here in South Sudan it can be done around the world. There is good

:02:22.:02:24.

news. Progress is being made around the world. These days many more

:02:25.:02:28.

children are living past their fifth birthday than was the case 20 years

:02:29.:02:31.

ago. That's down to things like more vaccinations and better treatments

:02:32.:02:34.

for deadly diseases. It's hoped more can be done to give more kids

:02:35.:02:38.

everywhere the best start in life. Next, a leopard on the loose has

:02:39.:02:42.

sparked panic in the city of Meerut in Northern India. Schools were

:02:43.:02:44.

closed yesterday and officials are still trying to track down the

:02:45.:02:49.

beast. The leopard was spotted in a hospital, but wildlife experts

:02:50.:02:51.

weren't able to catch it. This isn't the first time wild animals have

:02:52.:02:55.

invaded places where people live and as the world's towns and cities

:02:56.:02:58.

grow, it's likely to happen more and more. Humanity is encroaching on the

:02:59.:03:09.

habitat of lots of wildlife. Leopards, lions, tigers. There is

:03:10.:03:15.

far less space for them to live. They are bound to interact much more

:03:16.:03:19.

with people by coming to villages and into towns so it is bound to

:03:20.:03:25.

happen. Even here in the UK. We hear stories about urban foxes and even

:03:26.:03:29.

here in Manchester in the city centre we have had reports of

:03:30.:03:35.

otters, wild mink, and peregrines nesting in a city centre building.

:03:36.:03:38.

Sport now and Team GB's Winter Olympic athletes have returned to

:03:39.:03:41.

the UK for a hero's welcome. They visited Downing Street where they

:03:42.:03:44.

were congratulated by the Prime Minister for beating their target of

:03:45.:03:47.

three medals by finishing with four, the best British result at the

:03:48.:03:50.

Winter Games for 90 years. Olympic skeleton champion Lizzy Yarnold won

:03:51.:03:56.

the only gold. And it sounds like she still can't believe it's real.

:03:57.:04:03.

It has been a great day and a great week. I can't really believe it has

:04:04.:04:06.

all happened but I have the gold medal round my neck so I have got to

:04:07.:04:11.

be sure. It is great. People are driving past and taking pictures,

:04:12.:04:15.

honking their horns. It is nice to share it with everyone back in

:04:16.:04:19.

Britain. Every time I slide I have to be aware of what I am doing,

:04:20.:04:24.

travelling at 90 mph. I put my helmet on and I am in competition

:04:25.:04:29.

mode and ready And you can hear more from Team GB over on the website. To

:04:30.:04:33.

go. From super humans to super cute now.

:04:34.:04:38.

Take a look at this baby Humboldt penguin. The little fellow was born

:04:39.:04:41.

two months early because of the milder weather this winter, so now

:04:42.:04:45.

staff at London Zoo are having to take extra special care of him. He's

:04:46.:04:48.

much smaller than your average penguin chick and he still doesn't

:04:49.:04:51.

have a name but that hasn't stopped him making his presence felt. That's

:04:52.:04:56.

it. We're back at 6:50. Goodbye.

:04:57.:05:00.
