Hello, everyone. Newsround has officially invaded BBC One. We have | :00:21. | :00:24.
seven minutes to get you bang up to date with everything you need to | :00:24. | :00:29.
know to kick-start the weekend. On the way it tonight, Press Packers | :00:29. | :00:32.
march on Parliament for kids in Afghanistan. | :00:32. | :00:38.
And remember this? We hear from the pilot who escaped unharmed. | :00:38. | :00:42.
Before all of that, it has been six years since celebrity chef Jamie | :00:42. | :00:47.
Oliver started his big drive to make school dinners healthy. He got | :00:47. | :00:52.
the Government to force schools in England today to turkey twizzlers | :00:52. | :00:58.
for fresh and nutritious meals. But now he has worried some schools are | :00:58. | :01:02.
putting fatty foods back on the menu. Love them or hate them, the | :01:02. | :01:10.
chances are you eat them. Like most schools, food here is made | :01:10. | :01:14.
according to strict rules set out by the Government. Because it is | :01:14. | :01:18.
Friday, there are treats like pizza and fish and chips. Which will they | :01:19. | :01:24.
choose? In 2006, celebrity chef Jamie Oliver was so shocked by the | :01:24. | :01:27.
food in British schools, that he launched a campaign to change | :01:27. | :01:31.
things. He said that good school dinners made healthier and smarter | :01:31. | :01:36.
kids. But it was not easy. Crisps with this one, please. These | :01:36. | :01:40.
parents rebelled against him and delivered takeaways to the school | :01:40. | :01:44.
gates. Eventually it did work, and a law was brought in putting | :01:44. | :01:48.
healthier menus in English schools. Now Jamie is worried that things | :01:48. | :01:52.
could be slipping back. They are taking away the nutritional | :01:52. | :01:58.
standards that are now the law, which is a vision for young | :01:58. | :02:03.
people's health and the future. It could be a disaster. The problem is | :02:03. | :02:07.
with Academy Schools, which can now choose whichever food they like | :02:07. | :02:10.
which could mean they go for cheaper junk food. These kids think | :02:10. | :02:16.
it is good to have a balance of healthy food. If I had a healthy | :02:16. | :02:22.
lunch at school it would get me through the day more easily. It up | :02:22. | :02:26.
to be stronger and healthier. Campaigners like Jamie Oliver it so | :02:26. | :02:31.
they expected this fight to take many years, but unless they clamp | :02:31. | :02:34.
down now, school dinners could get worse. | :02:34. | :02:37.
We have been asking for your thoughts on this and they have been | :02:37. | :02:41.
flooding in. Joshua from Derbyshire says that his school dinners used | :02:41. | :02:45.
to be amazing but suddenly they switched to cheap and nasty | :02:45. | :02:52.
solutions. Lawrence says that her school meals | :02:52. | :02:56.
used to be horrible and unhealthy but now they are healthy apart from | :02:56. | :03:00.
when they have pizza on a Friday. Charlie from Southampton says that | :03:00. | :03:04.
their school has a cafe which is great. You choose what you like, | :03:04. | :03:10.
and their sandwiches and pasta, but it is too expensive. Krystian from | :03:10. | :03:14.
Yorkshire agrees. It is not that they are healthy, but they cost too | :03:14. | :03:19.
much to buy, even the pudding. Thank you for those comments. | :03:19. | :03:22.
If there was a prize for the most amazing pictures of the week, I | :03:22. | :03:27.
know what I would pick. Do you remember this? The pilot of his | :03:27. | :03:30.
helicopter in New Zealand had a lucky escape after his machine span | :03:30. | :03:34.
out of control when he was tried to put up a Christmas tree. He was OK. | :03:34. | :03:38.
He has been speaking about what happened. Because it happened so | :03:38. | :03:44.
quickly it was like a dream, really. Just like bang. The belt which is | :03:44. | :03:49.
attached to the floor of the aircraft. If I was not wearing that, | :03:49. | :03:54.
I would have been all over. From one extraordinary story to another. | :03:54. | :03:58.
Monique van der Vorst was paralysed after an accident as a teenager. | :03:58. | :04:02.
She went on to represent the Netherlands in hand cycling, | :04:02. | :04:06.
winning two Paralympic silver medals. Last year she was hit by | :04:06. | :04:09.
another cyclist and unbelievably that accident has reversed the | :04:09. | :04:12.
effects of the first one. She can now walk and has been offered the | :04:12. | :04:19.
chance to compete for their country as an able-bodied athlete. | :04:19. | :04:22.
spasm relaxed. Why was sent to hospital and nobody really knew | :04:22. | :04:26.
what was going on. I felt something in my feet but they were feet I had | :04:27. | :04:31.
not felt the 13 years. After three- and-a-half months I got movement | :04:31. | :04:37.
back in my legs. Now, education in Afghanistan. The | :04:37. | :04:40.
country has been affected by war for decades and lots of children | :04:40. | :04:44.
don't get the chance to go to school, especially girls. Charities | :04:44. | :04:48.
are trying to help and 150 schoolkids from Britain and Europe | :04:48. | :04:55.
have travelled to Afghanistan to raise awareness of the state of | :04:55. | :04:59.
education there. They included our Press Packers. | :04:59. | :05:05.
I am Nina. I am Joe. We are raising money for kids and Afghanistan to | :05:05. | :05:10.
help them go to school. We are about to join 150 kids from Europe | :05:10. | :05:15.
at the House of Commons. We are handing over a letter of to the | :05:15. | :05:17.
Minister for International Development to see if he can help | :05:17. | :05:21.
more children get education. For decades Afghanistan has been | :05:21. | :05:24.
affected by war. British troops have been operating there for 10 | :05:24. | :05:31.
years. The Taliban, who ruled the country from 1996-2001, stop girls | :05:31. | :05:35.
from going to school at all. They were overthrown and now more girls | :05:35. | :05:39.
are getting an education but lots of children cannot read or write. | :05:39. | :05:42.
What is it like for the children over there? What are you trying to | :05:42. | :05:47.
do? Life is very tough for children in Afghanistan. Lots of them have | :05:47. | :05:50.
to go and work and lots of them live where there is fighting. If | :05:50. | :05:54.
they do manage to get to school, there is often a building and they | :05:54. | :05:58.
have to sit outside. Our aim is to get all children into fantastic | :05:58. | :06:03.
schools of high quality by 2020. What would you like to happen to | :06:03. | :06:09.
your country? First of all I would like peas to come. I would like to | :06:09. | :06:14.
see doctors and engineers of the future, especially girls. They face | :06:14. | :06:24.
:06:24. | :06:28. | ||
a lot of obstacles in Afghanistan. Luck, we are nearly there. We're | :06:28. | :06:31.
going into the House of Commons to give our letter to the minister, | :06:31. | :06:37.
Alan Duncan. We went into the House of Commons a | :06:37. | :06:40.
few hours ago and the minister to our letter. There are still | :06:40. | :06:43.
millions of children that cannot even go to primary school and we | :06:43. | :06:49.
want to change that. This is Nina. And Joe reporting for Newsround. | :06:50. | :06:53.
The great work. We know that David Beckham is one | :06:53. | :06:57.
of the best players on the pitch, but check him out with his eyes | :06:57. | :07:01.
closed. He managed to score this blindfolded during a training | :07:01. | :07:04.
session with the British Olympic visually-impaired football squad. | :07:04. | :07:07.
He was also put through his paces trying out different schools and he | :07:07. | :07:13.
got the hang of it pretty quickly. Check this out. Impressive. That is | :07:13. | :07:17. |
