Hi there. Welcome along to Tuesday's Newsround. We're live

:00:18.:00:21.

just after 5pm. I'm Ricky. And I'm Hayley. We've got something for

:00:21.:00:24.

everyone today, including all this. The 800-year-old castle that's had

:00:24.:00:30.

a makeover. And, we've got more on Prince

:00:30.:00:35.

Harry's mission with four soldiers to the top of the world.

:00:35.:00:38.

But first, wherever you live, you won't be very far from a river.

:00:38.:00:41.

They're home to wildlife, some people live on them, and they make

:00:41.:00:45.

up an important transport network. Until recently, many of our rivers

:00:45.:00:48.

were dirty and polluted, but after years of hard work and a mammoth

:00:48.:00:52.

clean-up operation, they're in a much better shape. Today, a new

:00:52.:00:57.

list reveals the rivers that are making a cleaner comeback.

:00:57.:01:00.

Back in the olden days, rivers weren't always the nicest places to

:01:00.:01:04.

hang around. Britain's waterways used to be a dumping ground for

:01:04.:01:09.

anything and everything. During London's Great Stink in 1858, the

:01:09.:01:14.

River Thames was like London's toilet. It stank so badly that

:01:14.:01:18.

Parliament was suspended! Fast- forward 100 years to the 1950s, and

:01:18.:01:23.

things weren't much better. The River Wandle in South-West London

:01:23.:01:28.

used to be known as a sewer. Dark and horrible and full of industrial

:01:28.:01:36.

waste. But now, it's a haven for fish and birds. The Environment

:01:36.:01:39.

Agency says Britain's rivers are the healthiest they've been in 20

:01:39.:01:46.

years. We have looked at the amount of water being taken from rivers

:01:47.:01:51.

reduced, we have reduced pollution substantially, and we are looking

:01:51.:01:56.

at opening up the rivers so that they are the natural corridors for

:01:56.:02:02.

wildlife. Included in their most- improved list is the River Taff in

:02:02.:02:05.

South Wales, which the EA says once ran black with coal dust, but is

:02:06.:02:08.

now a site for fishing competitions. And the River Stour in

:02:08.:02:10.

Worcestershire, which was once famous for the polluting rainbow-

:02:11.:02:13.

coloured dyes that flowed into it from carpet manufacturers. London's

:02:13.:02:17.

River Thames is also on the list. It was so dirty 60 years ago that

:02:17.:02:20.

nothing could live in it. But it's now teeming with fish, otter and

:02:20.:02:24.

sea trout. And next week it'll be home to comedian David Walliams for

:02:24.:02:30.

eight days as he tries to swim 140 miles along it for Sport Relief.

:02:30.:02:32.

Although he has had lots of injections to protect him against

:02:32.:02:36.

diseases. It's all good news, but the Environment Agency hopes to

:02:36.:02:39.

transform another 9,500 miles of river, so there's still a bit of

:02:39.:02:44.

work to be done. And we just have to stress that

:02:44.:02:47.

David Walliams is swimming in the Thames, but only after lots of

:02:47.:02:50.

advice and jabs. Although lots of rivers are now fine for wildlife,

:02:50.:02:59.

they're not all OK for humans. Graffiti is not usually a word you

:02:59.:03:06.

would associate with history, but look at this building. This Castle

:03:06.:03:11.

is covered in graffiti. The owner of the castle originally planned

:03:11.:03:14.

for the art work to be a temporary think, but he liked it so much, he

:03:14.:03:22.

wants it to stay. If you are a fan of Arsenal, you

:03:22.:03:27.

will want to forget about the weekend. They were thrashed by

:03:27.:03:31.

Manchester United. There are still some supporters, but some of the

:03:31.:03:34.

disappointed fans who travelled to the match have been offered free

:03:34.:03:42.

tickets as an apology. What should happen next to Arsenal?

:03:42.:03:49.

Terrible. They should have done more passing and teamwork. Arsene

:03:49.:03:54.

Wenger has not bought any good players. We might not do well in

:03:54.:04:00.

the season. Arsenal should use the money they got by selling it Cesc

:04:00.:04:07.

Fabregas for better players. They need to do a bit better than now.

:04:07.:04:15.

thought they would have done better. Especially as they passed Games in

:04:15.:04:17.

the Premier League against Manchester United have been very

:04:17.:04:24.

exciting, but this was a bit one- sided. They can do really well, but

:04:24.:04:29.

the match was a big fail for them. Well, there's a bit of a

:04:30.:04:32.

north/south divide going on here, actually. Yeah, I was actually at

:04:32.:04:36.

the football game we speak of. Oh, yeah. I saw all the action from the

:04:36.:04:39.

sidelines. Well, I think it's clear the best team won. I think some

:04:39.:04:43.

people may disagree with you on that. But we want to know what you

:04:43.:04:50.

think about Arsenal's future. Head over to our website and let us know.

:04:50.:04:55.

It has not been a brilliant day for Jessica Ennis. She failed to defend

:04:55.:05:00.

her title at the World Athletics Championships. She won a silver

:05:00.:05:05.

medal, but she lost out to Russia's Tatyana Chernova.

:05:05.:05:08.

Earlier this year, Prince Harry teamed up with a group of soldiers

:05:08.:05:11.

who were badly injured in Afghanistan to try to do the first

:05:11.:05:14.

unsupported trek to the North Pole by wounded servicemen. Their every

:05:14.:05:18.

move was followed by a film crew, and a documentary of the trek is on

:05:18.:05:27.

BBC One tonight. Leah got a sneak preview.

:05:27.:05:31.

It is 2:50am, the team and Prince Harry have just landed at Ice

:05:31.:05:34.

Station, of ready to start their mission. It is the first time they

:05:34.:05:41.

have been anywhere near this. standing on a floating ocean, it is

:05:41.:05:48.

called! From here, a helicopter ride to a 0.160 miles from the

:05:48.:05:58.
:05:58.:06:00.

North Pole. It is still liked. My body clock is in disarray. It is

:06:00.:06:06.

solid cloud, and minus 28 in the wind. They land on more eyes, and

:06:06.:06:12.

the adventure begins. When the ice breaks up, it forms a mini mountain

:06:12.:06:20.

ranges. They are a messy mix of rocky ice piled on top of each

:06:20.:06:30.
:06:30.:06:30.

other. My skis are coming off, we are crossing something bigger.

:06:30.:06:34.

person who lost his leg while serving in Afghanistan found it

:06:34.:06:40.

difficult to negotiate. It is difficult terrain. It is hard work.

:06:40.:06:47.

But we just have to deal with it. For the people who have missing or

:06:47.:06:53.

damaged arms, it is pretty challenging. Steve needs to be

:06:53.:06:57.

careful, he has got a back injury, and having a prince Harry is a big

:06:58.:07:02.

help. Everybody is helping everybody, it is the only way.

:07:02.:07:06.

team are hoping to raise more than 2 million for charity to help

:07:06.:07:09.

other injured servicemen. And Harry's Arctic Heroes is on

:07:10.:07:18.

tonight on BBC One at 9pm. This is a volcano erupting in Italy.

:07:18.:07:23.

Mount Etna is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. It

:07:23.:07:28.

started erupting eight days ago and it recently became even more

:07:28.:07:31.

explosive, which is why we can give you these pictures.

:07:31.:07:34.

Before we go, we've already had some comments in on what Arsenal

:07:34.:07:37.

Football Club should do next. 13- year-old Claudia, all the way from

:07:37.:07:40.

Jakarta in Indonesia, says Arsenal should buy more players. That can

:07:40.:07:43.
