Friendly Fires & Interpol Reading and Leeds Festival

Hello there and welcome to the third and final day at Reading 2011.

We've had a fantastic weekend of live music and we've still got more

to show you. It's beautiful out there right now. Rain and sun at

the same time. How lovely. Rainbow weather. It is. We are getting a

bit of everything but it's clearing up and it will be a lovely last

night here. There is a rainbow at Reading as well. Look at that!

Beautiful. Tonight is the last night of Reading 2011 and we are

going out with the lasers because Muse are headlining. You will see a

chunk of that set later on. Also, you will get some Interpol who are

playing on the Main Stage know. Myself and Fearne earlier found

ourselves watching Friendly Fire, there was a girl in a dinghy crowd

surfing as well. Worth looking out for.

Ed's upped his game again this year. Good acoustic sets as well. But now

Turner earlier on at Reading. So, something that you will definitely

really love is Friendly Fire. They were so good earlier. They have an

incredible talent of making a stage full like a -- feel like a party.

Everyone felt like they were in a house party because it proper

kicked off. The Hawaiian ladies came out again. Adding an extra

layer for me. Ed's shirt was great and there was a lot of back sweat

going on from the drummer and it was magical, the hole crowd dancing.

I'm a vegetarian, but feel free to get involved. In the internal words

of my grandmother, I don't do that. Let's move on to better things, Dom

and Matt from Muse. All right, chaps? Yes. Headlining at Reading.

I can't hear anything, it's deafening. Quite loud. You have

headlined here before, do you still get the same nerves and excitement?

Nervous tonight. We are playing an old album of ours, playing it from

top-to-bottom and we've got some different productions we've never

used before so nervous about that. It's ten years since Origin of

Symmetes? Yes, we changed after that and got experimental in the

studio. There was loads more influences coming into the band,

lots of piano and stuff. Matt was playing lots of Rakmananov-style

stuff. You guys aren't playing many festivals this summer. What is

special about Reading and Leeds? think it was the first festival we

went to. We came in 94. The whole band, as friends? Yes, we were

camping out. I remember seeing Geoff Buckley, Cypress Hill, yes

Chilli Peppers. Green Day. For us country folk, we don't get to see

those bands unless you go to London, it was the chance to see them in

one hit. It means a lot to us because it was our first big

exposure to a concert. Have you been out to see bands or has it

been too hectic? I've seen a bit of Interpol. Was hoping to go and see

a bit of Deaf and Above 1979. are great. Do you become friends

with people at gigs and catch up with them? Elbow, yes. We did a

tour years ago. Weirdly enough, it was when we did the album Origin

that we are playing tonight. I think we toured with Elbow. It

would be great to see those guys because we have not seen them since

then. What can you tell us about your stage set-up because we've

heard some cool rumours about what you are doing. What are you doing

tonight? We had 15 flame throwers. I can understand why that might be

a problem. We tried it in lead where it melted the front of the

stage and the fire department stopped it. Tonight we've been

calmed down to ten flame throwers and they are not as long. You are

being serious! You played in Germany and you had a spaceship

that came over the audience and had an acrobat hanging down. Of course,

yes. That's like what you will have this evening? That gig you saw, I

think it took out the MTV tower and there was ten minutes of dead air

on MTV because of that. We've got the flame throwers and the whole

set looks like the artwork so we've got the weird goalpost things,

slightly Tim Burton looking. Cool. How was Leeds for you guys? Good.

Slightly cold and wet, you know. Yep. Aside from setting fire to the

stage, it was cool, the crowd was good. Excellent. What is next for

you guys the rest of the year? is the last show now finally for

touring on this album, so we are going to start working on some new

music at some point in London. Excellent. Over the next few months.

Have you started writing yet? bits and pieces. We are going to

base ourselves in London, the band will be living in the same place

for a while so we can cycle to work, you know, "work", probably not like

work, but you know, looking forward to that and yes, not sure what's

going to happen yet but we'll experiment and try new things in

the studio. Exciting. Brilliant. Have a fantastic gig this evening.

you, it was awesome. You can see a gorgeous sky perfect for elbow who

you will see very shortly. We'll be back here on BBC Three in a few

minutes. You will see Muse, a lovely big chunk of that set and

you will see the flame throwers. Also, a great big slice of elbow
