Supporters of the deposed Egyptian President, Mohamed Morsi, are

planning another day of protests today. A coalition of Islamist

groups says it will continue peaceful demonstrations until he is

returned to power. 30 people were killed in clashes yesterday. Four of

them when the army opened fire on crowds of pro-Morsi demonstrators.

Our correspondent, Aleem Maqbool, is in Cairo for us.

Yes, well we remember the scenes of jubilation in Tahrir Square, but it

is pretty empty now. The celebrations feel like a long time

ago. The sounds we heard here overnight and areas close to here

where the sounds of gunfire. It has been the worst violence of

the new startling transition in Egypt. Muslim Brotherhood decided it

was time their voices were heard. The demonstrations turned to clashes

in. In some places with the police, in others, with the army. Into the

night, close to Tahrir Square, they fought the protesters who helped to

bring down their leader, Mohamed Morsi. Fireworks, rocks and then

live rounds were used. More were killed than injured.

This is what the Egyptians feared, here in the centre of Cairo, running

battles between the opponents and supporters of Mohamed Morsi. Nobody

thinks this is the end of it. The Muslim Brotherhood is coming

under pressure. The pictures here appear to show another figure in the

organisation, he is being arrested. Morsi supporters are shocked by the

events. So they will not be kept quiet.

TRANSLATION: We are going to continue our protest, say Mohamed

Morsi must be released and reinstated as the Egyptian

President. Both sides are ready for further

shows of strength. Unless there is a political solution, the security

here could disintegrate further. So, with more protests planned this

week, is there a sense that there can be a peaceful solution to this?

Well, I suppose, Maxine, it depends what happens with the Muslim

Brotherhood and with the supporters. Of course until just a few days ago,

they were running the country. Now the leaders have been arrested. A

lot of Islamist TV Channels have been shut down and Mohamed Morsi is

in military detention. There will be those who will not accept what has

happened but how can they be brought back into the fold? Perhaps if some

leaders can be talked around, they cab talk down the supporters but

unless there is reconciliation soon, there is the possibility that

violence could continue between Islamists on one side who feel hard

done by and the rest of Egyptian society and there is more violence

expected in the next 24 hours. A former Deputy Assistant

Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police has revealed that he

authorised a secret recording of a meeting between Stephen Lawrence's

friend, Duwayne Brooks, and his lawyers and detectives. John Grieve

said he wanted a record of discussions with Duwayne Brooks, who

witnessed the attack on Stephen Lawrence in 1993. Our correspondent

is at new Scotland Yard for -- Scotland Yard for us.

What more do we know? This meeting happened 11 years before the two men

were convicted of that killing of Stephen Lawrence. John Grieve said

he wanted a record of discussions with Duwayne Brooks. He said had he

asked for permission mission, they would have been refused. He was

saying that he was not deceiving anyone and apologises for anyone --

for any stress he may have caused Stephen Lawrence's parents. Scotland

Yard believe in this case that the relevant policy was followed. In a

tweet, Duwayne Brooks says let's be honest, that did anyone believe that

this kind of recording own happened once? They -- Stephen Lawrence's

parents have asked what exactly happened in the year years before

this. There is an issue over the

Nicaragua and Venezuela say that they are prepared to grant asylum to

the former American intelligence worker, Edward Snowden, facing

spying charges. Edward Snowden, believed to be staying at a hotel in

an airport near Moscow is wanted in the US after leaking details about a

secret surveillance programme. The British and the Irish Lions lines

are on course for an historic win as they play their final match against

Australia in Sydney. They are hoping to be the first Lions side in 16

years to win a Tour. The Lions scored early on. At halvetime the
