Good evening. Much of Scotland has been battered by severe gales today.

Ferris have been cancelled and many of the country's road bridges have

been closed to high sided vehicles. Throughout the day, high-speed

winds battered central and southern Scotland. This was the picture on

the Ayrshire coast. Even seagulls struggled. Here's the view from our

roof camera, when the winds were at their peak in Glasgow. Winds were

reporteded at 160mph and a Gus of 87mph were reporteded on the road

bridge. It's not in the league of the storm on 9th December when wind

speeds reached 106mph. There is more of this weather to come.

Looking at the outlook over the next week to ten days, I think it's

a very similar pattern to what we have experienced recently. We can

expect more cycles of windy weather with rain, particularly in the west,

followed by colder weather behind. Ferris were cancelled, flights to

the highland and islands disrupted. There were wind warnings and speed

restrictions on all major bridges across the country. It's about

3.30pm in the afternoon in the centre of Glasgow. It's gone high

tide. The water here in the Clyde is very high this afternoon. We

were told that between 3.00pm and 4.00pm the winds would reach their

peak. It's 60mph here at the moment. Despite the storms in Edinburgh

shoppers battled on. The fun fair was off in Glasgow. A few,000 homes

in Argyll and the west are without power and the Motherwell and

Dunfermline match is off. If you are in the north-east the winds are

on your way tonight. Investigations are continuing into a house fire in

Kilmarnock in which a nine-year-old boy died. Evan Mohammed and his two

younger sisters were rescued from the house by firefighters. He lost

his fight for life. His sisters are in a stable condition in hospital.

His mother and older sister escaped injury. Police investigating the

murder of 21-year-old Stephen Pollock will tonight be stopping

and interviewing motorists and pedestrians a week on from his

death. He died after being involved in an argument and then shot in

Paisley last Wednesday night. Detectives say they are still

trying to find a motive for his murder. Lawyers for the Ultimo

lingerie tycoon, Michelle Mone, have confirmed that she and her

husband Michael are to separate. The statement said the split was

amicable and that no other party was involved. The couple will

continue to work together in their business, MJM International. Singer

songwriter Emeli Sande is toasting the most successful year of her

career so far back home with her family in Aberdeenshire. The 24-

year-old from Alford has had a whirlwind 12 months, including

supporting Coldplay and wind winning a BRIT Award. Home for the

holidays. Precious time with family after an extraordinary year. This

year has been filled with things that I would have been amazed if

one of these things would have happened this year. It's, kind of,

next week something incredible happens. You get another piece of

nues. -- news. It feels like a dream because you don't have a

minute where you can stop and think about, "yeah, I did that", you

know! Major chart success, a MOBO nomination, to top it all, a BRIT

Award. To win the Critics' Choice is something I've always wanted.

Last year I was at the Brits when Jesse J picked up her awards. Being

here a year later is incredible. This is where it all began. The

school choir, conducted by her dad. Even at 12 she impressed. I had

asked her to sing a solo in the Christmas concert. Within a couple

of bars of her singing the songs she had prepared, the hairs on the

back of my neck stood up. I just thought, "wow, where does that

voice come from". Her dad also saw something special. She puts in so

much effort. You can see that she's actually putting in a lot of

emotion in the thing. That is really there. It feels like a dream

really. I always thought, wouldn't it be wonderful to switch on the

radio and one of her songs on the radio. It has come true. With a new

album coming out, toult is tipped to be even bigger for Emeli Sande.

-- 2012. My wish for 2012 is that things continue to go well. That's

it. Celtic host Rangers tonight at Park head in the Chris mald Old

Firm derby. The man in charge of policing say that is an evening

kickoff won't make any difference to the way they deal with it.

is staggering to think that Rangers were 15 points clear. A huge turn

around for Celtic. For Rangers, Lee McCullough is fit and available. He

was sent off in the game against the weekend. Rangers are appealing

that red card. Until that appeal is heard he is available. The bad news,

perhaps, is their stuttering form. They lost that game to St Mirren at

the weekend. They have been a little bit stodgeyi compared to

Celtic who are looking for nine straight league wins in a row. The

fans hoping for a great game of football. The blustery conditions,

Scottish football hoping that all the talk after the game is about

what happens on the field as opposed to what happens off it.

tomorrow? Yes, very windy across the whole of the country today. The

highest wind speed was 87mph on the Tai Bridge. Amber warning will

expire in the next few hours as the winds pull away. All associated

with a deep area of low pressure. That is off the north-east of the

country at the moment. The winds are whipping around the centre of

the low there. The 70mph risk will diminish over over the next few

hours but will transfer up to the north-east during the small hours

over night. In the west heavy showers in the east, clear dry,

colder conditions. Lows to two or three degrees. Tomorrow, that low

pressure that brought the high winds today is well away from us us

pushing over to Scandinavia. The next feature working in from the

Atlantic will introduce showers into western parts of the country

to start the day tomorrow. The further east you are, dryer,

brighter conditions. Through the morning dry weather will be around.

Sunshine in between the clouds. A windy day still. Some of the shores

showers wintry over the higher ground. Into the evening the winds

will ease down. The showers will ease. In the east clear, cold night.

Clear cold and crisp in the east on Friday. In the west showery with

rain pushing in. For Hogmanay showers and clear spells. It will

be breezy. For the day on Saturday the showers will be in western

parts. The further east that you are, dryer and brighter. By day

temperatures 10 or 11 degrees. Into the evening three or four. With a
