Dumbarton. Get ready for your Olympic countdown. Five. Four.

:00:15.:00:25.
:00:25.:00:27.

Hello and welcome to Blue Peter's Big Olympic Tour. This is your

:00:27.:00:31.

ultimate guide to the Olympics and we're following the Olympic Torch.

:00:31.:00:35.

Every step of the way as it travels right around the UK. And we are

:00:35.:00:38.

thrilled to be coming to you live this morning from Dumbarton!

:00:38.:00:48.
:00:48.:00:59.

Hello, hello, hello. We are in week three of power Blue Peter's Big

:00:59.:01:05.

Olympic Tour. We started in South Wales and then went to Belfast and

:01:05.:01:11.

today we are in a very sunny Dumbarton. Now the talk is going to

:01:11.:01:16.

beat year in about 30 minutes. It's travelling from Glasgow all the way

:01:16.:01:22.

to Inverness. We can see where it is right now. Now, it is somewhere

:01:22.:01:26.

round about Clydebank. It has been passed over to the next person, so

:01:26.:01:31.

some body is about to set off for their part of the journey. What a

:01:31.:01:37.

moment. He looks really excited. If you recognise him, get out there

:01:37.:01:40.

and have a look at the Olympic torch it because you might not have

:01:40.:01:44.

a chance again. That's true and we will be catching up with it later

:01:44.:01:51.

on. Let's speak to these children. They are excited about the Olympics.

:01:51.:01:58.

What are you excited about? Football. I'm excited about the

:01:58.:02:04.

world distance running. Do you do any of that yourself? Yes. Depends

:02:04.:02:09.

on who is chasing you, I'd imagine. If we listen carefully, we can

:02:09.:02:14.

possibly hear it? Maybe as it gets closer. Let's have a look at what

:02:14.:02:24.

is to come on today's show. It's Round 3 of the Blue Peter Olympic

:02:24.:02:27.

Challenge where the two of us and our celebrity friends try our luck

:02:27.:02:30.

at the Triple Jump. We also have the next installment of our

:02:30.:02:34.

Horrible Histories sketches. we're joined by our good friend and

:02:34.:02:42.

Olympics fanatic, Newsround's Ore Oduba. He looks so good in a

:02:42.:02:47.

sparkly jacket, doesn't he? doesn't? Now, each week we've been

:02:47.:02:49.

sending a crack team of local children out and about following

:02:49.:02:53.

the Olympic Torch Relay. So it is time to go over to Louise from BBC

:02:53.:02:57.

News School Report to tell us what has been going on during the last

:02:57.:03:06.

seven days. Hello. Welcome to Dumbarton it. Over the last week

:03:06.:03:10.

the torch has travelled from Liverpool to the Isle of Man around

:03:10.:03:13.

Northern Ireland and Dublin and ended up in Glasgow. Last Saturday

:03:13.:03:17.

it came to the Isle of Man and was carried on the back of a motorbike.

:03:18.:03:23.

In the next couple of days, it travelled to the top landmarks of

:03:23.:03:26.

Northern Ireland including the Giants Causeway. On Wednesday, the

:03:27.:03:31.

Olympic flame across the Irish border and made a historic trip to

:03:31.:03:41.
:03:41.:03:45.

Dublin where it was carried by Jedward. A on Thursday it ended up

:03:45.:03:50.

in Glasgow to jubilant crowds. We are going to show you some of our

:03:50.:04:00.
:04:00.:04:00.

top spots. I'm here at a Dublin every nut there is a fantastic view.

:04:00.:04:06.

-- Dublin arena. There is a fantastic view. I like to hang out

:04:06.:04:16.

here, it's a cool thing to do, biking. And skating. Here Robert

:04:16.:04:21.

the Bruce and William Wallace hid here in the Scottish war of

:04:21.:04:31.
:04:31.:04:31.

independence. Freedom! If you like what you see, come and visit.

:04:31.:04:37.

hear it for Louise, everybody. CHEERING Thank you very much for

:04:37.:04:42.

that. I love the freedom! Thank you very

:04:42.:04:52.
:04:52.:04:52.

Up now it's time for today's guest. He is the host of Match Of The Day

:04:52.:05:02.

and CBeebies the's ultimate sports stars, it is Ore! Hello, Dumbarton,

:05:02.:05:09.

how are you doing? They like you. You watch all kinds of sports. Talk

:05:09.:05:14.

us through the Olympics. What are you looking forward to? I can't

:05:14.:05:19.

wait. Look at my face. It's an excited face. It's going to be

:05:19.:05:23.

incredible. We have seen the torch go through all the cities and towns,

:05:23.:05:28.

but when the Olympics actually starts, it's going to be off the

:05:28.:05:32.

chart. I'm looking forward to all the sports, but obviously everybody

:05:32.:05:38.

is looking forward to the athletics, seeing it Usain Bolt striking again

:05:38.:05:42.

in London. Personally, I'm looking forward to the hockey because I

:05:42.:05:47.

used to be quite good. We know this because we have a sneaky picture of

:05:47.:05:55.

you in your hockey outfit. There he is. Where is he? Is that really

:05:55.:06:01.

you? The question you want to ask, why did they want to hide my face?

:06:01.:06:08.

What was so horrible about it? you still play hockey? No, I'm a

:06:08.:06:13.

really bad now. I used to play with a lot of the team to the players

:06:13.:06:20.

now. But I'm not any good. That Team GB players or the a lot of

:06:20.:06:22.

people will be excited mother track and field because there are some

:06:22.:06:27.

big stars out there. One that person is Phillips Idowu, triple

:06:27.:06:34.

jumping legend and here is the man himself with the Event Guide.

:06:34.:06:42.

I am a Phillips Idowu. You have made my day. There's only one more

:06:42.:06:45.

thing I want to be awarded this year and I guess you can figure it

:06:45.:06:51.

out. He is Great Britain's best triple jumper and his equally

:06:51.:06:54.

famous for the colour of his hair as his fantastic sporting

:06:54.:06:59.

achievements. I can't wait to compete up. Here is your Blue Peter

:07:00.:07:05.

guide to Olympic triple jumping. It's an amazing sight. It looks

:07:05.:07:12.

like you are flying. I like to think so. In Olympic competition,

:07:12.:07:16.

all athletes who can jump a pre-set distance in the qualifying round go

:07:16.:07:21.

through to the final. The two finalists then get three jumps. The

:07:21.:07:25.

top eight get through more attempts with the longest single jump taking

:07:25.:07:35.
:07:35.:07:35.

the gold medal. The perfect a triple jump is very important. You

:07:35.:07:38.

are degenerate speed as you approach the board. The next thing

:07:38.:07:43.

is to be accurate on the board of. You want to make sure you step on

:07:43.:07:49.

it without stepping over. You want to maintain as much speed as

:07:49.:07:54.

possible. Then we have the step. You have the land as comfortably as

:07:54.:07:59.

possible with as much control as possible so you can give it

:07:59.:08:09.
:08:09.:08:10.

When you land in that sandpit, you know whether it is a good jump or

:08:10.:08:14.

not. You want the noise in the stadium. You want the crowd behind

:08:14.:08:20.

you. I want them to be watching me when I am going, basically! Keep

:08:20.:08:30.
:08:30.:08:31.

them focused on you. It is big! Oh, yes! Triple jump is quite a tough

:08:31.:08:37.

event on the body. You stretch your body quite a lot. One of my

:08:37.:08:42.

conditioning exercises will be using a sledgehammer. And I beat up

:08:42.:08:46.

a stack of tyres. That is a good exercise because it helps my back

:08:46.:08:56.
:08:56.:08:56.

strength. The key secret to my success, my coach. Secondly, the

:08:56.:09:02.

hard work that I put in. And thirdly, I think nutrition. That is

:09:02.:09:05.

where focus and dedication come in. As soon as I have finished

:09:05.:09:15.

competing I will be eating burgers and drinking milkshakes! I think

:09:15.:09:20.

people are expecting me to go with the Union Jack, but we will have to

:09:20.:09:30.
:09:30.:09:34.

I think he might go blonde. He has got to go for gold, hasn't he?

:09:34.:09:39.

had a go at the triple-jump. It's a lot more difficult than Phillips

:09:39.:09:44.

Idowu makes it look. If you let anywhere near Levengrove Park in a

:09:44.:09:48.

Dumbarton, come and see us. We will be here all day. There's loads of

:09:49.:09:54.

events you can have a go at. You could be a reporter like Ore. All

:09:54.:09:59.

the details are on the Blue Peter website. Barney is out and about

:09:59.:10:03.

finding out about the things you can have a go at. Yes, I am and, as

:10:03.:10:07.

always, it involves gadgets. You will see the Blue Peter studio

:10:07.:10:12.

stage at the back of the park. The top left-hand side, you will find

:10:12.:10:17.

this tent, the Sports Report area, where you can be a sports presenter.

:10:17.:10:21.

And you get used all the technology they use in the studio. This is

:10:21.:10:26.

known as a green screen. It's a bit of technical wizardry and I have a

:10:26.:10:29.

brilliant technician working with me today, David. The great thing

:10:29.:10:34.

about this, you can operate all of this. Usually reporters get to go

:10:34.:10:37.

to the actual event and report on it from there but we can't do that

:10:37.:10:43.

because we are not there. So we have to use this so, David, put us

:10:43.:10:48.

into the Olympic Stadium, please. There we go. As easy as that for

:10:48.:10:53.

that we have to interview the legend which is Sir Chris Hoy. What

:10:53.:11:00.

a man. Let's see what the fuss is COMMENTATOR: The world champion.

:11:00.:11:07.

Great Britain takes gold. Japan takes bronze. What a moment in

:11:07.:11:11.

history that was. David, we need to get to the Velodrome as quickly as

:11:11.:11:16.

possible, please. Please welcome Sir Chris Hoy.

:11:16.:11:24.

It is such a pleasure to have you here in the Velodrome. How much did

:11:24.:11:30.

that race feel great? I started off a bit slow and then I picked up the

:11:30.:11:36.

pace. And I just tried my best and I won. How does it feel to have the

:11:36.:11:39.

gold medal? It's been amazing because I had been working on it

:11:39.:11:44.

for years. It really is an amazing job you have. Can we talk about

:11:44.:11:49.

your hair? You have gone with a Union Jack. Will that help you to

:11:49.:11:56.

win the next race? I hope so. you want to come down to Levengrove

:11:56.:12:00.

Park, you could be your very own sports reporter. The thank you very

:12:00.:12:10.

much, Chris Hoy and Barney. Still to come on today's show.

:12:10.:12:12.

Horrible Histories team have a chariot race. Can Ore match Sir

:12:12.:12:16.

Steve Redgrave and Nicky Byrne by hitting the bell in our Test of

:12:16.:12:19.

Strength? And we'll be trying to emulate Phillips Idowu in Round 3

:12:19.:12:24.

of Blue Peter's Big Olympic Challenge. Now it's time for our

:12:24.:12:27.

weekly look at historic moments that have really shaped the Olympic

:12:27.:12:31.

Games. Usain Bolt might be dominating the 100m right now. But

:12:31.:12:35.

this week we are going all the way back to 1936 when one athlete

:12:35.:12:45.
:12:45.:12:47.

ruined the hopes of one of the The 1936 Olympic Games were held in

:12:47.:12:51.

Berlin. At that times, three years before the Second World War, the

:12:51.:12:54.

country was under the control of one of the most notorious people in

:12:54.:13:04.

history. Adolf Hitler. He was the leader of the Nazi party and was

:13:04.:13:06.

clear he wanted white athletes to do better in the Games but there

:13:06.:13:10.

was one man who stood up to this. And shattered all of his Olympic

:13:10.:13:17.

dreams, the American, Jesse Owens. He competed in four different

:13:17.:13:21.

events that year and scooped the top prize for the 100 metres and

:13:21.:13:31.
:13:31.:13:38.

I am very glad to have one at the Olympic Games here in Berlin. A

:13:38.:13:44.

beautiful place and a beautiful setting. I'm glad to come out on

:13:44.:13:49.

top. Thank you. Up next was the long jump where he was up against a

:13:49.:13:54.

German competitor, one of Hitler's favourite athletes but, but the

:13:54.:14:03.

American won it, picking up yet another gold medal. He went home

:14:03.:14:08.

with four gold medals from Berlin and in the process had a strong

:14:08.:14:12.

friendship with his German rival and proudly stood with him on the

:14:12.:14:21.

podium in front of Adolf Hitler. many stories, fantastic moment and

:14:21.:14:24.

Colin he is trying to track down every British gold medallist and

:14:24.:14:28.

you can hear his programme at 11am on Sunday morning for that tomorrow

:14:28.:14:33.

he will be talking to Daley Thompson and the fabulous Rebekah

:14:33.:14:38.

Addington. A little bit later on, we will be having a go at the

:14:38.:14:42.

triple jump. Phillips Idowu made it look easy earlier in the show.

:14:42.:14:47.

However it's not so easy. We are going back in time it to try out

:14:47.:14:51.

another jumping event. It is the standing long jump and it happened

:14:51.:15:01.
:15:01.:15:04.

in the Olympics between 1919 12. If we talk about the record for

:15:04.:15:09.

this before we go any further, it was set in the 1960s by a Norwegian

:15:09.:15:14.

guy. He managed to jump three metres and 71 centimetres, which is

:15:14.:15:18.

the distance from the start of the mat to the flag. There is no run-up,

:15:19.:15:22.

it is a standing jump. We know that you are one big hunk of muscle, but

:15:23.:15:29.

do we think that Ore can do this? What do you think? Bad. Is that bad

:15:29.:15:36.

but you mean good? No. It means bad! Good. We have one bad and one

:15:36.:15:40.

good, which is the perfect mixture for television. Please take your

:15:40.:15:44.

position. Do it from line one because you are not going to get

:15:44.:15:54.
:15:54.:16:02.

that far. Come on, guys! Ore, Ore, Ore! Three, two, one. He is an

:16:02.:16:12.

animal. You have jumped one metre and 90 centimetres. A round of

:16:12.:16:19.

applause for Ore. We always said that he had great thigh muscles.

:16:19.:16:25.

Who needs Chris Hoy!! Let's go back to Horrible Histories. They are

:16:25.:16:28.

going back to Roman times with the closest thing they had to Formula

:16:28.:16:34.

One. Enjoy the thrills and spills, but

:16:34.:16:44.
:16:44.:16:54.

chiefly the spills, of chariot This is the most brutal and deadly

:16:54.:17:04.
:17:04.:17:07.

race of all time. Please select your charioteer. You have made your

:17:07.:17:17.
:17:17.:17:17.

selection. The Jews it in colour. - - choose your colour. Red is good

:17:17.:17:22.

but it does not show up your opponent's blood! Let the raised

:17:22.:17:29.

commence! Do you have what it takes to survive seven laps? He doesn't!

:17:29.:17:35.

Watch out for the falling charioteer. Watch out for the

:17:35.:17:40.

flying horse dung. Avoid the broken chariots known as shipwrecks. And

:17:40.:17:45.

if you crash, let go of the reins, but they are wrapped around your

:17:45.:17:52.

waist so you cannot! You win! live to raise another day, unlike

:17:52.:17:57.

my horse, who will be sacrificed to the gods. I shall miss you. I am

:17:57.:18:05.

not crying. It is fast, it is furious, it is chariot racing.

:18:05.:18:13.

away. I am not crying. I am not! do love Horrible Histories! We have

:18:13.:18:18.

seen how far he can jump. Now it is time to test his strength. We are

:18:18.:18:27.

training you to be an Olympic athlete. Can I be like Steve

:18:27.:18:32.

Redgrave? Hopefully! Steve Redgrave and Nicky Byrne have both hit the

:18:32.:18:36.

bell, so there is some pressure, but we think you can do it having

:18:36.:18:42.

seen you jump. Now everybody is my friend! It is hammered time. Let's

:18:42.:18:52.
:18:52.:18:54.

count him down. Three, two, one! That was rubbish. You need to swing

:18:54.:19:02.

it more. That was 60. That was my first effort, right? You are wrong

:19:02.:19:05.

60 and we are all a little bit disappointed! What a shocker. But

:19:05.:19:10.

we still like you. Let's move on. Earlier we spoke to you about the

:19:10.:19:17.

torch being in Clydebank and it is now on its to wait to

:19:17.:19:27.
:19:27.:19:27.

Dunbartonshire. Look how fast it is going! -- on its way to Dumbarton.

:19:27.:19:32.

That is Ore running! You want to sue the torch, so what are you

:19:32.:19:37.

going to do? We are going to go quickly, so we are running! What

:19:37.:19:47.

are you excited about at the Olympics? I am excited by the

:19:47.:19:52.

gymnastics. Let's see who is on our leaderboard as we hand over to Dan

:19:52.:19:59.

Walker. Welcome to the Blue Peter bigger Olympic Challenge. It is

:19:59.:20:04.

where we invite our friends to take part in nine Olympic events. At the

:20:04.:20:11.

end of it, one of them will stand on the podium with a Blue Peter

:20:11.:20:16.

gold medal. Laura Wright, not just a big singer. Brendan Cole, taking

:20:16.:20:21.

this as seriously as Strictly Come Dancing. Last week's winner, Adele.

:20:21.:20:29.

Mr consistent, it Romeo. And not forgetting these two, Helen and

:20:29.:20:35.

Barney. Wellcome, athletes. This is an event that requires pace,

:20:35.:20:39.

precision and explosive power. It is the triple jump and it is our

:20:39.:20:43.

third event. We need somebody that knows what they are talking about.

:20:43.:20:49.

It is one of our top jumping coaches! Can you tell them one

:20:49.:20:54.

thing to give them this extra centimetres? A good step. Most

:20:54.:20:59.

people do a very good hop and a little step. If you can just get

:20:59.:21:05.

that leg out, you have got it. are all yours! It sounds so simple,

:21:05.:21:10.

hop, step and jump, but not everybody finds it that easy.

:21:10.:21:16.

ridiculous what is going on behind him. It is so hard. I have just

:21:16.:21:19.

seen Helen Skelton doing little jumps. She has got a dock complex

:21:19.:21:27.

which I think the coach is worried about. -- duck complex. Her legs of

:21:27.:21:31.

flapping. There will be separate men and women's events. The rivalry

:21:31.:21:39.

seems to be hotting up. I am not very good at this. Laura has got a

:21:39.:21:45.

funny jump. Her hands are dead cute. I am really excited about triple

:21:45.:21:49.

jump. I think it will be good. The other girls are doing really well

:21:49.:21:53.

in training. The boys are finding out how much stress the body is put

:21:53.:22:00.

under, none more so than Barney, who looks to have tweaked something.

:22:00.:22:05.

That is so painful. This situation is fascinating. I find it quite

:22:05.:22:09.

hard to run. Don't move my leg. This is the moment when Olympic

:22:09.:22:13.

dreams can become a Olympic nightmares. I don't think he can do

:22:13.:22:18.

too well in this. I know how much that hurts. That is the face of

:22:19.:22:26.

pain. Is the baby coming out?! the out of the Olympics? He can do

:22:26.:22:33.

some stretching. This is where our athletes will start the triple jump

:22:33.:22:38.

journey. Then it is fast as they can down the runway. Down goes the

:22:38.:22:42.

lead but, making sure they do not go over the line, otherwise they

:22:42.:22:46.

get the red flag of doom. They want the white flag. Then you have to

:22:46.:22:50.

hop, taking off and landing on the same thought. The second one is the

:22:50.:22:58.

step, and the third one into the pit is the jump. The crowd goes

:22:58.:23:02.

wild, a new world record. Just like in Olympic competition, everybody

:23:02.:23:06.

is given three jobs, with their long as League One counting towards

:23:06.:23:16.
:23:16.:23:20.

the final result. -- longest legal one. Helen struggled. She managed

:23:20.:23:25.

to do two with her feet over the line. This put pressure on her.

:23:25.:23:30.

is looking tense. She would be. It is a strong run up and she is using

:23:30.:23:36.

her arms, pumping away. It looks good, but is it? It is a white flag

:23:36.:23:42.

and it counts at last! Adele was next up and she really struggled

:23:42.:23:48.

with the technique. Three failures for her. And as for Laura, she was

:23:48.:23:53.

proving very consistent. Two really good jumps to start with and this

:23:53.:23:58.

is number three. She is in a really strong position. That looks like a

:23:58.:24:03.

good run up. She is building momentum. That is a whopper! Around

:24:03.:24:12.

eight metres. Is it better at than Helen's? I have the results here.

:24:12.:24:17.

The good news is that you get one point for finishing third, Adele,

:24:17.:24:23.

but you did not register a jump. With a jump of seven metres and 14

:24:23.:24:27.

centimetres it is Helen Skelton. That means that Laura, you win the

:24:27.:24:33.

women's competition. Eight metres 19 centimetres. Now it is the boys

:24:33.:24:39.

turn. Brendan Cole is getting the crowd going behind him. That will

:24:39.:24:45.

help. His run-up is good. He looks fierce. That is impressive. Good as

:24:45.:24:51.

me, that was impressive and he knows it! -- Guy Disney. Brendan

:24:51.:25:01.
:25:01.:25:01.

recorded two more good chums but neither of them was quite as good.

:25:01.:25:05.

Barney's first job was good but the second was not. He had one more

:25:05.:25:10.

chance to improve. He will feel it now. Jumping despite injury. That

:25:10.:25:20.

is not bad. That is good, well done. Romeo left it to the wire with two

:25:20.:25:26.

failed jumps, leaving him one chance remaining. He has to get it

:25:26.:25:31.

right. His eyes, do they show frustration or determination? Third

:25:31.:25:36.

time lucky. That is not a bad effort and he gets the white flag.

:25:36.:25:46.
:25:46.:25:47.

It was risky. Yes, mm to spare. Brendan, you were way out there. 10

:25:47.:25:53.

metres and 35 centimetres. That wins you top marks. Some tension

:25:53.:25:59.

here because we had two jumps. Romeo, you finished in second place

:25:59.:26:05.

with eight metres, 86 centimetres. Barney, injured, but eight metres

:26:05.:26:13.

12 centimetres is very good. Well done, everybody.

:26:13.:26:21.

I think it is fair to say that was not my finest sporting moment. I am

:26:21.:26:26.

sorry that I laughed when you got injured! How has it affected the

:26:26.:26:33.

leaderboard? Let's move on! At the moment Barney and Adele are not in

:26:33.:26:41.

line for a medal. I have got six points. Laura and Renault have got

:26:41.:26:50.

seven points. -- Romeo and. At the top of the table in gold medal

:26:50.:26:56.

position is Brendan Cole with eight points. Why are you cheering for

:26:56.:27:01.

him? He is not here and we are! It is early days and we have got lots

:27:01.:27:07.

more events to go. It could still change. You never know. We are back

:27:07.:27:13.

on Thursday at 5:45pm on the CBBC channel, when the Olympic torch

:27:13.:27:22.

continues. We will be following the torch and we will be joined by pop

:27:23.:27:29.

sensation Gemma Cowdrey. Olympic dreams continue. -- Joe

:27:29.:27:34.

McElderry. I am laughing because I know how good it will be! And

:27:34.:27:37.

Horrible Histories have got a catchy song for as they tweak that

:27:37.:27:45.

you do not want to miss. -- for us next week. We will be in Sunderland.

:27:45.:27:53.

You ran with the torch, so what was it like? It was amazing, a once-in-
