Holmes. Rebecca Adlington is bringing it

:00:26.:00:34.

home to Britain. COMMENTATOR: Great Britain get the

:00:34.:00:44.
:00:44.:00:45.

gold medal! Kelly Holmes, what a performance! Absolutely

:00:45.:00:55.
:00:55.:01:00.

breathtaking. Great Britain takes the Women's European Gymnastics

:01:00.:01:07.

Championships. The women will be competing for

:01:07.:01:12.

five titles in the team and four individual apparatus finals. There

:01:12.:01:17.

is no all-around competition in the year of the Olympics. This is the

:01:17.:01:22.

last major championships before London 2012. Great Britain's men

:01:22.:01:27.

and women have qualified with full teams. The women during an

:01:27.:01:32.

emotional and nail-biting scene in last year's championships in Tokyo.

:01:32.:01:36.

The captain of our women's team for the last ten years has been three

:01:36.:01:44.

time a world champion and six times a European champion, Beth Tweddle.

:01:44.:01:47.

Let's remind ourselves of how brilliant she is.

:01:47.:01:53.

COMMENTATOR: Fabulous performance from Beth Tweddle. Absolutely

:01:53.:02:00.

phenomenal. The Gold Medal has gone to Beth

:02:00.:02:08.

Tweddle. What a dismount! Beth Tweddle takes

:02:08.:02:11.

the gold. Beth, with over two months to go to

:02:11.:02:15.

the Olympics. A lot of people will be surprised to see you are not

:02:15.:02:21.

competing at the European Chips what's has been going on? I had a

:02:21.:02:28.

bit of pain in the knee, as a precaution I was scanned. He had a

:02:28.:02:33.

tear that had folded, so they had to take the decision to operate.

:02:33.:02:37.

That decision was not taken lightly, but it was the best decision with

:02:37.:02:41.

the Olympics so close. Did you see the Olympic dreams

:02:41.:02:45.

disappearing when you heard the news? I was devastated. I thought I

:02:45.:02:50.

was missing out on the Europeans and possibly the Olympics, but they

:02:50.:02:53.

assured me it was fairly straightforward and I would be back

:02:53.:03:01.

in a day or two. So far it is going well. I am on the bars and I've

:03:02.:03:05.

started jogging. It will is good news, obviously it is hard to watch

:03:05.:03:09.

the team. What is it like as a spectator, you

:03:09.:03:14.

are here as a supporting role? Amanda asked me to come out and

:03:14.:03:18.

watch. I made the decision to come out here and support the girls.

:03:18.:03:22.

They would do the same for me. It is nice to be here for them.

:03:22.:03:27.

There are new faces in the team. Let's meet the girls going for a

:03:27.:03:37.
:03:37.:03:38.

medal in Brussels. Hi, I'm Jennifer Pinchin. I am

:03:38.:03:44.

almost 18 years old from Derbyshire. Jenny is a consistent member of the

:03:44.:03:48.

team and you can rely on her for a good performance. Even though she

:03:48.:03:53.

is just 17 years of age, she's been a part of the Great Britain set up

:03:53.:03:58.

since she was nine. In some ways you could say she is is a veteran.

:03:58.:04:08.
:04:08.:04:13.

I am TDanisha Francis. 2011 was Danisha's qualifying year.

:04:13.:04:19.

She helped us to qualify to earn us the all-important Olympics spot.

:04:19.:04:25.

She is a lively character and keeps the team's spirit up.

:04:25.:04:30.

Hi, I'm Hannah Whelan. I'm 19 years old from Chester.

:04:30.:04:35.

Hannah Whelan went to the Olympics in 2008, but was the baby of the

:04:35.:04:38.

team being just 16 years of age. Four years later, she is the team

:04:38.:04:43.

leader in Brussels. She is the most consistent member of the team and

:04:43.:04:50.

today doing all four apparatus to help the team achieve that medal.

:04:50.:04:57.

I'm Ruby Harrold, I'm 15-year-old from Churchill near Bristol.

:04:57.:05:00.

Ruby Harrold was the first person up for the team in qualification.

:05:00.:05:07.

Never an easy task, but produced a solid performance, earning her win

:05:08.:05:14.

the bar final and helping us to qualify as the team.

:05:14.:05:21.

Hi, I'm Rebecca Tunney. Rebecca Tunney trains with me. With

:05:21.:05:27.

this being her first senior debut, she has done well in qualification

:05:27.:05:33.

and scored top on vault and individual as a final and on the

:05:33.:05:43.
:05:43.:05:52.

floor. Keep an eye out for her this summer and in Rio in 2016.

:05:52.:05:58.

So, the rotation one sees the top qualifier Romania starting on the

:05:58.:06:04.

vault. The Russians are on the beam and Great Britain are on the A bars.

:06:04.:06:12.

Three gymnasts go from each country. Every score counts.

:06:12.:06:17.

Mitch Fenner is with me. Catalina Ponor. The three-time

:06:17.:06:23.

Olympic champion in 2004. She retired, but she is back in the

:06:23.:06:26.

Romanian team and what a strong character she is.

:06:26.:06:34.

She is a great vaulter. Loaded that double twisting vault around. One

:06:34.:06:38.

of the most difficult. She make it is look easy. Watch the

:06:38.:06:43.

shoulder dip down and rolls it around. A little scruffy around the

:06:43.:06:49.

legs, but easy for her. Poking it up hard, pushing the shoulder down

:06:49.:06:59.
:06:59.:07:00.

and keeping the twist. Catalina Ponor. The first vault for

:07:00.:07:09.

Romania with two to go. Sandra Raluca Izbasa, the current

:07:09.:07:14.

European vault champion. She really makes gymnastics look

:07:14.:07:19.

easy, doesn't she? She hits the top of the platform, rockets into the

:07:19.:07:24.

air and floats down. No bouncing around on landing.

:07:24.:07:33.

She seems to have specialised in every piece as she has gotten older.

:07:33.:07:38.

That measured approach, accelerating like a long-jumper.

:07:38.:07:48.
:07:48.:07:48.

Look at that. High into the air. The third and final performance on

:07:48.:07:54.

the beam for Russia. This is Victoria Komova. She was silver in

:07:54.:07:59.

the world all-round. Last year it was the beam that let her down. So,

:07:59.:08:09.

will she come a cropper here on it? She recovered well. Two super lay-

:08:09.:08:17.

out somersaults. Every skill she performs well.

:08:17.:08:23.

The Arabian somersault. She is so secure in her work. Two lovely

:08:23.:08:27.

jumps. It does not matter how well you perform the skill. It is how

:08:27.:08:32.

you finish. Here comes the spin. As I said it, that is what she did not

:08:32.:08:38.

do. She did not hold the finishing position.

:08:38.:08:43.

Recovered well. She has lost a little bit of

:08:44.:08:49.

confidence. Those elements should vn Lynned one after the other. --

:08:49.:08:59.
:08:59.:09:10.

should have been linked one after double tuck and a super landing.

:09:10.:09:15.

That was a fighting performance. It was, but you don't want to see

:09:15.:09:21.

that sort of fight. Usualally there is is a spark and ease there. It is

:09:21.:09:31.
:09:31.:09:31.

a struggle, it seems, for Victoria Komova.

:09:31.:09:37.

Now, that was well done. Finishing in a handstand. The turn a little

:09:37.:09:43.

ugly with the legs past the low bar, but good invert action. Speeding up

:09:44.:09:49.

into the double straight dismount. Efficient bar work.

:09:49.:09:57.

She will be followed by Vanessa Ferrari.

:09:57.:10:07.
:10:07.:10:12.

Very accurate work. Lots of swing in the trance fer.

:10:12.:10:17.

There is that turn in handstand that Chris was so impressed with.

:10:17.:10:24.

So would anybody. Fasana, the first Italian gymnast

:10:24.:10:34.
:10:34.:10:34.

on the bars. There is Vanessa Ferrari congratulating her.

:10:34.:10:41.

18 years old. She was third on vault at the World

:10:42.:10:51.

Championships in 2009. That popped out beautifully.

:10:51.:10:54.

One-and-a-half twists. Almost overcooked it, but so light

:10:54.:10:58.

a touch. A lovely lift and style.

:10:58.:11:08.
:11:08.:11:11.

So, Youna Dufournet, a good result. Because of Beth Tweddle, she has

:11:11.:11:16.

become known for her A bars, but the British team have been doing

:11:16.:11:21.

her proud. So, Romania lead. France are second

:11:21.:11:31.
:11:31.:11:34.

ahead of Great Britain in third. Russia are down in fifth.

:11:34.:11:44.
:11:44.:11:49.

So, Jennifer, Danisha and Hannah Whelan.

:11:49.:11:58.

This is a tough job for Jenny. This is her first feel of the arena. The

:11:58.:12:08.
:12:08.:12:29.

together. It is a lot of difficulty. You have to take your eyes off the

:12:29.:12:33.

beam. Now, that is tough. She still has a

:12:33.:12:43.
:12:43.:12:48.

lot of difficulty to go. She needs to keep her concentration.

:12:48.:12:58.
:12:58.:12:58.

The side somersault. Fighting on that one.

:12:58.:13:08.

The change leg with half a turn. Now she's going for a big dismount.

:13:08.:13:16.

She has to build the power through the two back flips, one flip, two

:13:16.:13:22.

flips, a double pike. What a shame. A relatively easy skill for her,

:13:22.:13:28.

she did not quite set it correctly. It is amazing. She's been working

:13:28.:13:35.

so well. Such a pity, but the rest of it is impressive.

:13:35.:13:41.

Now the second of Russia's gymnasts. 17 years old.

:13:41.:13:51.

A dramatic flourish to set it up. This is vital for her team.

:13:51.:13:56.

The double tuck that skips out but under control. Lots of power

:13:56.:14:01.

through the flip. Two-and-a-half twists, a full twist that squeezes

:14:01.:14:11.
:14:11.:14:17.

performance so far. You could see the expectation was weighing at the

:14:17.:14:22.

start. But this is very impressive. Look at that, drifting through the

:14:22.:14:32.
:14:32.:15:09.

she going to do here? Twiple twist and bounced and lurched to one side.

:15:09.:15:13.

That will be expensive too. European champion in the all round

:15:13.:15:17.

from two years ago does her best to help Russia claw their way back up

:15:17.:15:26.

the standings. But they don't seem to be making much of an impact.

:15:26.:15:32.

Very smooth from the low bar to the high. Just a small split of the

:15:32.:15:40.

legs. Now that was good. Straight arms. Clean with that pirouette.

:15:40.:15:46.

Another high release. She's linking the skills well, isn't she? One

:15:46.:15:51.

difficulty straight into the next. That's how the difficulty builds,

:15:51.:15:54.

that's how she gets her start score up. Another pirouette, straight

:15:54.:16:02.

into a full twisting double back. Really good solid performance.

:16:02.:16:09.

liked what you saw there, you can see it again many the bars final if

:16:09.:16:13.

you lake. Always on bars you Bonn dered whether Romania would go

:16:13.:16:20.

through, but this is the sort of work that was fluid and confident -

:16:20.:16:28.

- wondered. It had that attack. Doesn't seem to be happening for

:16:28.:16:38.
:16:38.:16:52.

Italians usually very good gymnasts on the beam. Lovely, supple work

:16:52.:17:00.

there. Takes her head right back. Free walkover. Just a pause before

:17:00.:17:10.
:17:10.:17:12.

she goes into the backflip and layout somersault. That time, the

:17:12.:17:18.

leap linked to the tuck back. All these moves added together, the

:17:18.:17:24.

most difficult eight moves added together, to give the gymnast start

:17:24.:17:34.
:17:34.:17:39.

value. Hi front somersault stamps it out. Just the slightest

:17:39.:17:45.

hesitation. She's setting herself up here for the dismount. A hurdle

:17:45.:17:53.

step into her roundoff double pike. Well negotiated. Youna Dufournet on

:17:53.:18:03.
:18:03.:18:04.

the bars. French gymnast. Qualified third for the bars final. Looking

:18:04.:18:14.
:18:14.:18:14.

to post a big score here. Very difficult skill to do this. She

:18:14.:18:17.

dragged into the hand stand a little bit. Slightly faltering on

:18:17.:18:23.

the start, but now she's picking it up beautifully. Lots of height in

:18:23.:18:33.

the transfer pack. That was clean with time. She's away now. Oh, and

:18:33.:18:41.

she's clattered into the bar. What a pity. She faltered at the start

:18:41.:18:46.

and then got it together again and then that problem. Double layer

:18:46.:18:53.

beautifully done, but what a shame. It seems all the top teams are

:18:53.:19:00.

having a blip somewhere. So maybe Great Briton's may not be too

:19:00.:19:07.

costly. -- great Britain's may not be too costly.

:19:07.:19:16.

Youna Dufournet. That is a big score with a fall. There is

:19:16.:19:21.

confirmation then that Romania are way out in the lead. A mark and a

:19:21.:19:27.

half above Italy. Let's see what Beth Tweddle thinks at the half way

:19:27.:19:34.

stage. She's with Alison Mitchell. Had a great start on the bars. It's

:19:34.:19:37.

nerve-racking, but Ruby held her own and we had a really good set.

:19:37.:19:41.

We had a couple of errors, so we are going to have to rely on others

:19:41.:19:45.

to make errors. Unfortunately, Italy are three marks ahead of us,

:19:45.:19:48.

so they've made a tough task for themselves but it's never over

:19:48.:19:53.

until the end. When you have a fall off the beam, how hard is it to get

:19:53.:19:56.

back on and complete the routine? It's hard to get back up, but at

:19:56.:20:00.

the end of the day that's what we do in draining, if you fall, you

:20:00.:20:06.

get back up and carry on. They know that it all matters. The difference

:20:06.:20:09.

between one medal could be a tenth. They know they fall once there's

:20:09.:20:14.

nothing they can do. If they get back up and prove they'll f they've

:20:14.:20:23.

still got it in them; then who knows. Aliya Mustafina. Waiting to

:20:23.:20:28.

go on vault. The Russians, they were less than a mark outside of

:20:28.:20:36.

the medals at the last rotation, so they are making a comeback.

:20:36.:20:41.

Starting to sense a little bit of fire in the belly now. A chase-in.

:20:41.:20:50.

Musmus. Can she put Russia into the medals? - Aliya Mustafina. That was

:20:50.:20:54.

a lovely vault. And the smile is back on her face. That's the way to

:20:54.:21:01.

do it! Well, this is lovely to see. If this is the gymnast who damaged

:21:01.:21:11.
:21:11.:21:17.

her knee at the last European 15 years old. Qualified for the

:21:17.:21:27.
:21:27.:21:31.

Brilliant qualification. But it's a big ask to do it all again second

:21:32.:21:38.

day. Watch this. Whip into double Arabian. Huge tumble. Carries a big

:21:38.:21:47.

tariff. Now she needs to be as fast as she can here. Twisting, double

:21:47.:21:57.
:21:57.:22:21.

pike, great landing. Very acrobatic and-a-half twists cleanly up into

:22:21.:22:31.
:22:31.:22:47.

big final tumble. The round up, flip and double pike. She has? A

:22:47.:22:52.

little skip and a lovely smile. She knows that was a great performance.

:22:52.:22:56.

Great Britain are relying on the youngsters here to keep them in

:22:56.:22:59.

contention. She's bright and confident all the way through. Give

:22:59.:23:04.

us some details, Chris? That was her second tumble for twisting

:23:04.:23:10.

double back now. Rebecca Tunney is from the great Liverpool Gymnastic

:23:10.:23:20.
:23:20.:23:23.

Club coached by Claire Duffy and that was a lovely twist. Just when

:23:23.:23:33.
:23:33.:23:45.

you need to assert your authority, beam. Huge difficulty start with

:23:45.:23:53.

the changed leg leap to ring, head went right back -- 2004. Superb

:23:53.:24:02.

double spin. Both those skills given D and E difficulty. Very nice

:24:02.:24:08.

half turn to walk out. Straight into the backflip and layout

:24:08.:24:17.

somersault. She moved so fast. Links the skills, she almost

:24:17.:24:24.

doesn't give the time for a wobble. Keeps moving, keeps working. Arms

:24:24.:24:32.

are fluent and beautiful. Three quarter turn into hand stand.

:24:32.:24:35.

Almost uncanny isn't it that you can have all that movement and kill

:24:35.:24:45.
:24:45.:24:48.

it in a hand stand position? Still beautifully supple. Just when the

:24:48.:24:55.

team needed it, the gymnast before having made a fall, big dismount,

:24:55.:25:00.

double pike. What a performance for your team. You could almost bet

:25:00.:25:04.

that that is what would have happened when she finished, but

:25:04.:25:07.

absolutely remarkable performance. Such an extraordinary gymnast when

:25:07.:25:10.

you think she came back from retirement and won her place back

:25:10.:25:15.

on the team, rightly so. It was virtuoso, no doubt about it. She

:25:15.:25:24.

performed all the elements with such confidence. Lovely to see it.

:25:24.:25:34.
:25:34.:25:34.

Catalina Ponor. Absolutely massive score. Carlotta Ferlito. Italy.

:25:34.:25:39.

This was their best piece of apparatus in qualification, so

:25:39.:25:49.
:25:49.:25:55.

but I don't think it quite got round. I think she left her feet

:25:55.:26:05.
:26:05.:26:35.

behind a little bit. That's a good, picked up very well after two

:26:35.:26:44.

apparatus. Double twist. This is important. Maybe a little bit early

:26:45.:26:54.
:26:55.:27:09.

Almost buckled. Well, some errors there. How costly will they be?

:27:09.:27:17.

They were in second ahead of France. Will they stay there? Youna

:27:17.:27:27.
:27:27.:27:33.

but steady on beam. That's such an important factor in this

:27:33.:27:39.

competition in the chase for medals. Leaving the leg behind there,

:27:39.:27:49.
:27:49.:28:04.

the arms. And really this is what you need at this stage. You've got

:28:04.:28:14.
:28:14.:28:17.

to stay in command and in control. She's delivering the goods. Setting

:28:17.:28:27.
:28:27.:28:47.

almost lost it. She did so well to get hold of that at the end. Now,

:28:47.:28:52.

how costly will that dismount be? There was at least four paces?

:28:52.:29:01.

0.8 I think, yes. Not quite as much as a fall, will you -- fall, but

:29:01.:29:11.
:29:11.:29:24.

very nearly. Now we have Britain. Only competed a sing until

:29:25.:29:29.

qualifying. Went for the big double twisting vault. First time out at a

:29:29.:29:32.

major Championships. That was fabulous from Ruby. Nothing wrong

:29:32.:29:40.

with her head then, focused. scored a 14 hadn't 566 for that

:29:40.:29:48.

vault. -- 14.566 for that vault. Catalina Ponor. They've relied on

:29:48.:29:52.

her in this Championships. It's the confidence that she exudes. Such a

:29:52.:29:58.

security blanket for the rest of the team. Starts with an amazing

:29:58.:30:08.
:30:08.:30:10.

spin. But she's got lots of power as well. Lovely double straight.

:30:10.:30:16.

Strong powerful music. Look at that! Full and back out, back

:30:16.:30:26.
:30:26.:30:26.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 44 seconds

:30:26.:31:11.

these gymnasts. A super triple Olympic champion on the floor back

:31:11.:31:16.

in 2004. It looks like it is all still there.

:31:16.:31:23.

A great final double pike. Romania have blown us away with

:31:23.:31:31.

their gymnastics. I tell you what, roll on London 2012! Victoria

:31:31.:31:35.

Komova, from Russia. The current world champion on this

:31:35.:31:40.

piece of apparatus. The highest qualifier as well. This

:31:40.:31:49.

is the bars final. Christine said it. They would love

:31:49.:31:59.
:31:59.:32:00.

to finish off with this apparatus. Beautiful.

:32:00.:32:10.
:32:10.:32:13.

Lots of flight and height and swing. The full turn. Beautifully done.

:32:13.:32:18.

There is a pace to this, it is control, it is measured and that is

:32:18.:32:23.

the way to finish it. What a beautiful performance.

:32:23.:32:29.

Have they done enough for silver? Can they go ahead of Italy? If the

:32:29.:32:39.
:32:39.:32:44.

Romanians are the masters on beam, the Russians are on beam.

:32:44.:32:54.
:32:54.:33:03.

Catalina Ponor scoring 14.733. The job now falling to Jordache.

:33:03.:33:13.
:33:13.:33:15.

Two twists, two somersaults, double, double. Superb tumbling! Full

:33:15.:33:25.
:33:25.:33:30.

backed pike. So far, so light. She was their top junior last year.

:33:30.:33:38.

She has just moved up a gear into the senior level. A whip into the

:33:38.:33:48.
:33:48.:34:03.

triple. There's the spin as well. Four turns in there. This has been

:34:03.:34:07.

constant movement for a minute-and- a-half.

:34:07.:34:11.

It has to be a really fit gymnast to perform like this and still have

:34:11.:34:17.

a big tumble to finish. A double tuck.

:34:17.:34:24.

Well, she posted the highest floor score in qualification. All she

:34:24.:34:31.

needs here is 14 .2 82. I think we are looking at the

:34:32.:34:36.

European champions, Mitch, don't you? Amazing, but you wonder. You

:34:36.:34:41.

have seen great performances, but how she finished.

:34:41.:34:45.

The shoulders up. Really sets it up beautifully.

:34:45.:34:53.

Up in the rafters. Lovely work. It is 15.033. Larisa Andreea

:34:53.:35:02.

Iordache has sealed for them. What a great display of beautiful

:35:02.:35:10.

gymnastics from the Romanian team. Now, if you ask me, this is

:35:10.:35:15.

pressure. Do your best to land it, you've got

:35:15.:35:19.

a medal. 17 years old. The third piece today, Carlotta

:35:19.:35:23.

Ferlito. How important this piece is. That is good enough! Look at

:35:23.:35:33.
:35:33.:35:43.

the smile! Wonderful! A great job. 17 marks to get over Great Britain

:35:43.:35:53.
:35:53.:35:53.

here. A very nice double tuck.

:35:53.:36:02.

A classy performance. Romania take the gold. Russia

:36:02.:36:05.

clawed back over two-and-a-half marks on the bars to take the

:36:05.:36:10.

silver and Italy, after a fighting performance take the bronze. Great

:36:10.:36:14.

Britain are pushed outside of the medals in fourth, but ahead of

:36:14.:36:20.

France, Belgium get the top finish. Hannah you finished outside of the

:36:20.:36:26.

medal in fourth. Tell us how you feel about the performance? I'm a

:36:26.:36:31.

little disappointed. Mainly for my routines. I was not on form today,

:36:31.:36:36.

but I'm really proud of everyone. As I say, we have all work sod hard.

:36:36.:36:39.

It is a shame, but this makes us stronger.

:36:39.:36:44.

Jenny, when there are mistakes are you relying on other countries to

:36:44.:36:48.

slip up to stay in the medal hopes? Obviously we can do our job and

:36:48.:36:53.

focus on what we are doing. Everyone is going to do their best.

:36:53.:36:58.

We are all concentrating on our routines. Not on what has gone on

:36:58.:37:03.

before them. My performance does affect the team, so I feel

:37:03.:37:07.

responsible. There is no point feeling regrets. We know we can up

:37:07.:37:11.

our game. That makes us so exciting to watch. Anything can happen on

:37:11.:37:16.

the day. Fourth is still an achievement to be proud of for our

:37:16.:37:20.

team. It is a great experience for the Olympics.

:37:20.:37:25.

Ruby Harrold, you were first up on the bar, you must have been pleased

:37:25.:37:31.

with the performance? Yes, I was pleased. A little slip-up.

:37:31.:37:35.

How do you feel about going into the final on the bars? It is great.

:37:35.:37:43.

I know that I can learn from my mistakes and do a good job tomorrow.

:37:43.:37:50.

Danusia Francis, you have done a good job today? Yes. I'm really

:37:50.:37:57.

happy with myself and the team. Is there a disappointment to have

:37:57.:38:04.

missed out on the medals having qualified there? A little bit of a

:38:04.:38:08.

disappointment but I'm really proud of us.

:38:08.:38:12.

Rebecca, how about you, the first senior champions.

:38:12.:38:16.

Yeah, it is a really great experience. A little disappointed

:38:17.:38:21.

to be out of the medals, but happens. We have a big future ahead

:38:21.:38:29.

of us. It should be great. First of all, Beth how was that

:38:29.:38:33.

watching from the stands? It was so hard. When you are on the floor you

:38:33.:38:37.

can put a little control on what is going on. If people are getting too

:38:37.:38:42.

ahead of themselves you can calm them down, if they are having a

:38:42.:38:46.

hard time, you can gee them up again. Obviously there is only so

:38:46.:38:51.

much I can do from the audience. What was the impression of the

:38:51.:38:56.

girls, what they did? Obviously they did really well. They had a

:38:56.:39:00.

few problems, but they did not let their chins down. To finish fourth

:39:00.:39:04.

with the errors is still an amazing achievement.

:39:04.:39:10.

How well did Rebecca and Ruby do? Great. They are two 15-year-olds,

:39:11.:39:14.

shoved into the limelight. Obviously they are both nervous,

:39:14.:39:19.

but they held their own. They were out there to compete.

:39:19.:39:24.

And those scores! They just wanted to prove themselves. It is a big

:39:24.:39:27.

year for them. They want to show that they can be there with the

:39:28.:39:33.

rest of the seniors. What do the next couple of months

:39:33.:39:38.

hold for the girls? The next couple of months are difficult. We have

:39:38.:39:43.

trial after trial and then the team is announced on the 4th of July. So

:39:43.:39:48.

the first trial is next sat. There is not a lot of time finishing here

:39:48.:39:52.

for their minds to go down and then pick themselves up again. It is

:39:52.:39:57.

difficult at a major championships. You are giddy and high, you need a

:39:57.:40:03.

couple of days to come down. Then they have to pick themselves up.

:40:03.:40:09.

And Romania, they were outstanding, but Russia? The competition today

:40:09.:40:13.

was a lot closer than what we expected. It is great to see that

:40:13.:40:17.

Romania are back up there. Two years ago we managed to beat them

:40:17.:40:22.

into the silver position. But they have upped their game.

:40:22.:40:29.

They want that Olympic title and want to be in the pod yums with

:40:29.:40:36.

medals. Beth, you have been injured how do

:40:37.:40:42.

you feel? It is not easy. You are training very hard. Sometimes my

:40:42.:40:48.

coach is motivating me. If I am thinking myself why am I doing this,

:40:48.:40:52.

I remember the days when I was today stood on the podium. It is

:40:52.:40:58.

the most aphasing feelings. That is what gets you out of bed.

:40:58.:41:03.

Now, it is time to turn our attention to the apparatus finals,

:41:03.:41:08.

here in Brussels. The highest qualifier for the vault

:41:08.:41:18.
:41:18.:41:21.

final was the remarkable Shi v -- Oksana Chusovitina.

:41:21.:41:28.

COMMENTATOR: Here is Oksana Chusovitina for the team...

:41:28.:41:38.
:41:38.:41:39.

COMMENTATOR: A double twisting. Oksana Chusovitina.

:41:39.:41:43.

COMMENTATOR: Oksana Chusovitina is looking for another Olympic medal.

:41:43.:41:49.

COMMENTATOR: Here she goes, look at the power. Whack! One-and-a-half

:41:49.:41:59.
:41:59.:41:59.

twists. COMMENTATOR: Look at that. An

:41:59.:42:05.

ambassador for the sport. So, the start list of the vaulters.

:42:05.:42:09.

Defending her title is Sandra Raluca Izbasa. She will do her best

:42:09.:42:19.
:42:19.:42:34.

three of the finals today. Nicely landed. She will be happy

:42:34.:42:40.

with that opening vault. For a 6 .3 difficulty she made it

:42:40.:42:45.

look easy. It is so important to get a good

:42:45.:42:49.

secure vault. If it is typical, into the locker.

:42:49.:42:56.

Look at that lots of pop from the top of the horse.

:42:56.:43:03.

I don't think she did the complete vault. The double twisting is only

:43:03.:43:07.

a 5.8. This has to go on differently this

:43:07.:43:11.

time. She turns on the side. A lovely vault.

:43:11.:43:18.

The round-off. A pike somersault with the half turn off.

:43:18.:43:21.

A good, hard plank. Slightly to the side.

:43:22.:43:29.

So, 14 scored. The second vault gives her an average of 14 .2 66.

:43:29.:43:36.

Sandra Raluca Izbasa. The current European Vaulting

:43:36.:43:44.

Champion. The current Olympic Floor Champion.

:43:44.:43:49.

There she is. She made the half turn. That was very good.

:43:49.:43:54.

It is a difficult vault to land. She seemed a little short.

:43:54.:43:59.

A difficult but beautiful style. She turns on. So she makes the

:43:59.:44:04.

round-off. She turns on, half turn on, straight from a somersault with

:44:04.:44:14.
:44:14.:44:17.

full twist. Really complex. You have to be really aware spairbally.

:44:17.:44:26.

-- spacially. That, so much energy! Nice and

:44:26.:44:30.

clean. It is amazing how she has

:44:30.:44:37.

specialised as she has gotten older. Hits, lifts, two twists, legs

:44:37.:44:42.

locked together dead centre. That was lovely vaulting. I would have

:44:42.:44:48.

thought she might squeeze the extra half twist in by the Olympics. That

:44:48.:44:53.

would make her competitive with the best vaulters in the world.

:44:53.:44:59.

So, 14.49. Is it close? It is. That's the average.

:44:59.:45:08.

She scored 14.866. Now, Oksana Chusovitina.

:45:08.:45:18.
:45:18.:45:25.

A gymnast more than keen to make for gold here. Such a difficult

:45:25.:45:33.

vault. Explodes off. The hand spring straights up, somersault

:45:33.:45:39.

with heavy twist was heavily piked down but very well completed.

:45:39.:45:44.

She really had to work to get that round. Pulled it in tight. She

:45:44.:45:54.
:45:54.:46:01.

really has to work. Running out of this stage. Another determined

:46:01.:46:11.
:46:11.:46:12.

approach. This time she turns on. One-and-a-half twists off. Powerful

:46:12.:46:15.

vaulting. No trouble at all finding her way round through the twists

:46:15.:46:20.

and lands very much upright. A very good vault indeed. One-and-a-half

:46:20.:46:28.

twists, made to look very, very easy. Has she done enough to go

:46:28.:46:38.
:46:38.:46:39.

ahead? She hasn't. It's silver. Valeriia Maksiuta competing for

:46:39.:46:44.

Israel. Another purposeful run. Nice and high in the double twist.

:46:45.:46:53.

Just lost the legs a little bit. The judges have a big deduction for

:46:53.:46:58.

the chest being down on landing. Her feet come down and her chest is

:46:58.:47:08.
:47:08.:47:11.

pointing to the ploor. -- floor. Vault number two. And she really

:47:12.:47:16.

was late getting that twist in. A little bit flat off the top of the

:47:16.:47:24.

horse there. She did so well. lovely lift off the top. She hits,

:47:24.:47:28.

lifts and waits and whips in the twist. Good job she did get the

:47:28.:47:35.

feet down, because if they don't go first, it's a zero. An average

:47:35.:47:44.

score there of 14.57 puts Maksiuta into third at the moment. -- 14.5.

:47:44.:47:48.

Giulia Steingruber finishes off this vault final. She qualified

:47:48.:47:58.
:47:58.:48:00.

third. Can't write this young lady off. Look at that. Plenty of

:48:00.:48:07.

rotation. Too much in fact. That will be quite costly. Five to eight

:48:07.:48:13.

tenths possibly. She's put up for a tariff of 6-3, which is the

:48:13.:48:19.

straight front somersault with the one-and-a-half twist. Her legs were

:48:19.:48:23.

quite piked. That's the highest score we've seen so far. So

:48:23.:48:29.

Steingruber I think going for a 56.2 so needs the execution here.

:48:29.:48:37.

So important that this is almost perfect. That'll do I think. Not

:48:37.:48:43.

difficult. Just the single twist. Most people pike in and kick out

:48:43.:48:50.

straight to make the twists, but she was piked all the way there.

:48:50.:48:53.

She turns on and then makes the full twist off. I think they'll

:48:54.:48:58.

give it as a straight full twist but it will be heavily deductible.

:48:58.:49:08.
:49:08.:49:09.

The pike is quite simply a bend in the body. She's in third. There is

:49:09.:49:19.
:49:19.:49:37.

a European champion, Sandra Isb - Beth, you must be having mixed

:49:37.:49:40.

emotions at the moment because you are about to see your European

:49:40.:49:44.

title go to somebody else and there's nothing you can do about

:49:44.:49:49.

it? It's quite difficult. I brought a new routine out this year and was

:49:49.:49:53.

looking forward to doing that, but it was not meant to be and I'll

:49:53.:49:58.

have to save it for the summer. different is your routine? Skill-

:49:58.:50:02.

wise it hasn't changed much. I put a difficult dismount in. What do

:50:02.:50:09.

you mean the difficult dismount?! normally do a do believe somersault

:50:09.:50:14.

but now I have a double somersault with two twists, it's taken me a

:50:14.:50:19.

while to get it into my routine. Has that had anything to do with

:50:19.:50:24.

your injury? They don't think so. I've only recently being doing the

:50:24.:50:29.

dismount. We have Komova going in this. Do you think she's the

:50:29.:50:34.

favourite? Yes, but you have also got Dufournet who has the potential

:50:34.:50:41.

to be up there. And Grishina, the new up and coming Russian. She'll

:50:41.:50:47.

be there to challenge Komova. Ruby Harrold from Great Britain is

:50:47.:50:51.

just outside the medal contention? She's got the difficulty similar to

:50:51.:50:56.

some of the top ones, so if she can go clean and steady, she has the

:50:56.:51:01.

chance to go in for a medal. are going to be talking us through

:51:01.:51:06.

some of these routines so let's see who else is competing in the final.

:51:06.:51:10.

Victoria Komova, world champion, Ruby Harrold will be going seventh

:51:10.:51:18.

as well. But don't rule out Youna Dufournet either. And Grishina.

:51:18.:51:25.

Youna Dufournet, eighth in the World Championships last year. The

:51:25.:51:32.

third highest qualifier here. Dufournet has a huge bar routine

:51:32.:51:38.

capable of great things but also mistakes. There, the forward

:51:38.:51:44.

element she has to have in. Straight up into this pirouette and

:51:44.:51:49.

that's so typical. Goes for broke. Wrong way on the full pirouette up

:51:49.:51:55.

into the beautiful move, slowly down to the low bar, smoothly up to

:51:55.:52:01.

the high bar. Moving from one to the other with ease. Now watch for

:52:01.:52:11.
:52:11.:52:12.

this. That was smoothly done. Really winds up well and the lovely

:52:12.:52:16.

double straight really holds the shape right to the end. Beth, you

:52:16.:52:20.

reacted to that before it happened, you could see that coming. What

:52:20.:52:24.

went wrong? You can see and she'll know when she's doing the turn that

:52:24.:52:28.

it wasn't quite right, but she was going for broke, she knew she had

:52:28.:52:31.

one of the most difficult routines and if it hit perfectly, she could

:52:31.:52:35.

walk away with the title. I would have played a bit more safe and

:52:35.:52:41.

maybe just gone to go over the bar, especially because the last two

:52:41.:52:45.

competitions she hasn't been able to go from beginning to end without

:52:45.:52:55.
:52:55.:53:04.

a mistake. Victoria Komova, current world bars champion. Silver

:53:04.:53:08.

medallist. She's the gymnast with lots of time on the apparatus.

:53:08.:53:12.

Lovely lift to the high bar, back to the low. She seems to be able to

:53:12.:53:18.

give herself that extra bit of time. Look how she floated. See the hand

:53:18.:53:23.

stand. No doubt that was a hand stand. She balanced there. Lots of

:53:23.:53:28.

time in the air on the front somersault. Every hand stand peaked.

:53:28.:53:36.

Of course, a bit of a split of the legs. And just a little loose there

:53:36.:53:44.

with the feet. Giving a few tenths away. Each time past the low bar.

:53:44.:53:50.

But a huge dismount and really the first part of that routine was

:53:50.:53:53.

pretty faultless. Amazing. She had a slight loss of leg form half way

:53:53.:53:56.

through but the hand stands were pretty much holding and balancing,

:53:57.:54:00.

which is what the judges areliking for. Especially when you have

:54:00.:54:06.

someone of Komova's class and style. She's got flight in the releases,

:54:06.:54:16.
:54:16.:54:31.

Quick hand stand quickly into the pirouette. Made the link well. Low

:54:31.:54:41.
:54:41.:54:42.

bar. Back up to the high bar. Split of the legs. Low back swing. But

:54:42.:54:50.

she's moving well. Front somersault. Very difficult combination. Really

:54:50.:54:57.

swinging well here. Lovely double back. What a shame that she took

:54:57.:55:01.

the second step. She spotted a possible opening on the medal

:55:01.:55:06.

podium and went for it, Beth? release had an arm length. Her

:55:06.:55:10.

coach was really happy with that. She made bar final a couple of

:55:10.:55:14.

years ago with me in Brum and she medalled there, so she knows what

:55:14.:55:21.

it's like to be in the final. gone into second place. Look at the

:55:21.:55:27.

difficulty, 6.7. Well, two gymnasts to go. The penultimate is Ruby

:55:27.:55:33.

Harrold from Great Britain. 15 years old. First year of senior

:55:33.:55:40.

Euros. Her coach moving the board, hops into a huge yaeger somersault,

:55:40.:55:47.

lots of energy. Here we have the full pirouette. Down to the low bar.

:55:47.:55:50.

This is her original combination. Up to the high bar and back to the

:55:50.:55:56.

low bar with the full turn. Well negotiated. Very difficult. Now she

:55:56.:56:00.

has to make another half turn. She's made it. Really swinging well.

:56:00.:56:07.

Important she makes this next half turn. Oh, Ruby! Wow, she went for

:56:07.:56:15.

the dismount but she will have lost a bit of form at the top there.

:56:15.:56:20.

Beth was living every single inch of that routine! That was hard to

:56:20.:56:23.

watch because I'm normally stood next to the bars cheering her along

:56:23.:56:27.

and I was worried that I was going to blurt something out so I had to

:56:27.:56:33.

move the mic away. This next combination, straict into the turn

:56:33.:56:38.

which I don't think many of the girls are doing this. That is the

:56:38.:56:42.

one bit that sometimes she struggles with in training --

:56:42.:56:46.

straight into the turn. Nice straight arms here. You can see the

:56:46.:56:49.

concentration in her eyes. The whole time she'll beliking at that

:56:49.:56:54.

bar so she can see exactly where she's going. Unfortunately, this

:56:54.:56:57.

where it slightly went. The fact she was able to go straight into

:56:57.:57:01.

the dismount shows how well she knows the dismount. In your absence,

:57:01.:57:07.

she did Britain proud on the bars? Oh, she did, yes. Look at that

:57:07.:57:14.

score! Ruby Harrold in sixth. The last gymnast to go, Anastasia

:57:14.:57:18.

Grishina. The second highest qualifier. What is going to happen

:57:18.:57:22.

to the medals after this? Competition right to the end. They

:57:22.:57:28.

are all watching nervously. Lovely hand stand start. With the half

:57:28.:57:35.

turn, the big high jaeger somersault piked. The trademark of

:57:35.:57:39.

hitting the hand stand. The pike catcher, very difficult. Straight

:57:40.:57:49.
:57:50.:57:51.

into the next move. All the moves have their own tariff. Very clean.

:57:51.:57:54.

Straight into the twisting double back. She's not giving much away

:57:54.:57:58.

there. That was speedy as well and powerful. She certainly meant

:57:58.:58:01.

business there, Beth? Komova will be watching anxiously with that.

:58:01.:58:06.

There's the stoop half, straight into the pike, the jaeger,

:58:06.:58:10.

everything was high. You can see the coach sets in just in case.

:58:10.:58:14.

There's the pike catch, slightly close on landing so she has to bend

:58:14.:58:18.

the arms into the pack. But because she's so confident, she is still

:58:18.:58:23.

able to go. The thumbs are round the bar to make sure she's got hold

:58:23.:58:33.
:58:33.:58:33.

of the bar. Straight into the release and catch. Straight into

:58:33.:58:43.
:58:43.:58:47.

the dismount. Perfect landing. Grishina has got silver. There's

:58:47.:58:51.

the European champion. In the absence of Great Britain's Beth

:58:51.:59:01.
:59:01.:59:01.

Tweddle, Komova is victorious here. She takes gold. Ruby Harrold for

:59:01.:59:05.

Great Britain in sevenths. Do you think you have shown that you are

:59:05.:59:11.

worthy of a place in the senior team as a full-timer? I feel so,

:59:11.:59:15.

yes. Did your original skill in that bars routine, the skill which

:59:15.:59:19.

you have made up yourself, talk us through what that one is? I don't

:59:19.:59:22.

think it's a skill that's my skill, but it's a somersault in-between

:59:22.:59:26.

the two bars with a full turn. you pleased that came off in the

:59:26.:59:30.

final in front of a crowd like this under pressure? Definitely, yes.

:59:30.:59:34.

What are your aims and ambitions from here having had the

:59:34.:59:37.

experiences of a senior Championships and made the fuenl?

:59:37.:59:41.

Having this experience is amazing, hopefully it proves to the coaches

:59:41.:59:51.
:59:51.:59:52.

that maybe I can deliver and go further.

:59:52.:00:02.
:00:02.:00:07.

Hannah Whelan has stepped up to the plate as the captain of the British

:00:07.:00:12.

team in the absence of Beth Tweddle. Alison caught up with her ahead of

:00:12.:00:17.

the final. You are in two finals, the beam and

:00:17.:00:24.

the floor, how do you assess your chances? The beam, I should go well,

:00:24.:00:32.

and hopefully place a little bit higher than before. The floor is a

:00:32.:00:37.

little unexpected. I was contraiting on the beam final. So I

:00:37.:00:43.

will just look towards to get a good place.

:00:43.:00:49.

Are you nervous on the beam? I was at the that time. I have been

:00:49.:00:52.

working so hard. I was concentrating on getting to the

:00:52.:00:56.

final, but it has paid off. How do you manage to block out

:00:57.:01:01.

everything else is going on in the gymnastic hall with concentration

:01:01.:01:05.

you need? I'm in the sure. I've been competing for years and years.

:01:05.:01:11.

I can hear the girls' voices, the little things that they say. I hear

:01:12.:01:18.

the voice in my head. Is it conscious to be hearing the

:01:18.:01:22.

girls? It is great to know that they have my back and are assuring

:01:22.:01:27.

me. How tight is the Olympics for plat -- for the places? The team is

:01:27.:01:32.

announced in July, there are only five spots up for grabs? It is a

:01:32.:01:37.

good thing. Yes, it makes had hard for every torch get on the team,

:01:37.:01:41.

but it shows how good Great Britain are.

:01:41.:01:46.

This is Larisa Andreea Iordache from Romania, the highest qualifier.

:01:46.:01:56.
:01:56.:01:56.

This is her first senior European Championships.

:01:56.:02:06.
:02:06.:02:08.

Larisa Andreea Iordache had the highest difficulty in qualification.

:02:08.:02:14.

This is the important thing, this element, the tuck back. She did

:02:14.:02:20.

well. A double spin with a little wobble. Those are two very

:02:20.:02:30.
:02:30.:02:34.

difficult elements under her belt. A big pie leap with a half-turn.

:02:34.:02:39.

She's missed the link. A little stop there to add a bit of dance.

:02:39.:02:45.

She did not make the link into the back flip. Front somersault into

:02:45.:02:49.

the tuck-back. Very positive in her movements.

:02:49.:02:55.

Sharp in the dancework. But she does look a little bit

:02:55.:03:05.
:03:05.:03:05.

jittery. We've come to expect almost

:03:05.:03:11.

mechanical execution. Today she looks just a little bit human.

:03:11.:03:17.

Very strong work. Lots of difficulty. Here the big dismount.

:03:17.:03:22.

A triple lift into a round-off. That was fantastic.

:03:22.:03:29.

A triple twist all the way around. Lovely work.

:03:29.:03:34.

This is incredible. You can forgive her that wobble. Such a move to

:03:34.:03:44.
:03:44.:03:45.

full twist so. Many come to grief on that.

:03:45.:03:53.

That is a little down on the qualification, but still one of the

:03:53.:04:03.
:04:03.:04:04.

highest scores. Nataliya Konenko.

:04:04.:04:14.
:04:14.:04:19.

She has the presence. Very solid.

:04:19.:04:29.
:04:29.:04:30.

Excellent. This is great stuff. The Arabian.

:04:30.:04:40.
:04:40.:05:06.

She won it. Her rating is so difficult.

:05:06.:05:16.
:05:16.:05:25.

Almost away. The nerves have not gone away.

:05:25.:05:32.

Two flicks oh, and a double Arabian that did not pay off. A whole

:05:32.:05:36.

mark's deduction right at the end, but she was unsettled all the way

:05:36.:05:42.

through. She was on but just did not follow

:05:42.:05:47.

the rules and put the arms positively in the right place.

:05:47.:05:54.

Maybe she had started to think about the big dismount. It is a big

:05:54.:05:59.

dismount. Here we go, one, two, up, half turn,

:06:00.:06:09.
:06:10.:06:12.

double front. That is massive. Two marks behind Larisa Andreea

:06:12.:06:17.

Iordache. How well the British all-round

:06:17.:06:21.

champion now to this final. Well, Hannah has been the absolute

:06:21.:06:27.

rock of the British team. A lovely free walkover into the

:06:27.:06:37.
:06:37.:06:44.

change. Into the half turn. Well connected so far.

:06:44.:06:52.

This is the important series. A free cartwheel into the layout.

:06:52.:06:58.

Very well performed. She has work every apparatus in both

:06:58.:07:05.

qualification and team final. Now this is important.

:07:05.:07:10.

She had to stop at one-and-a-half. She will not quite get the

:07:10.:07:15.

difficulty in qualification. In qualification she made it around

:07:15.:07:23.

smoothly. She is a very elegant gymnast.

:07:23.:07:29.

A lovely leap. We saw the landing. We have to hope it was good at the

:07:29.:07:39.
:07:39.:07:54.

her feet and lift into the turn. That stops the rot.

:07:54.:08:04.
:08:04.:08:04.

A tiny little adjustment there. What does the future hold for

:08:04.:08:14.
:08:14.:08:32.

Hannah Whelan? 14 .3 33. of 14 .3 33 in silver medal

:08:32.:08:37.

position. Very focused. A lovely round-off. A straight somersault.

:08:37.:08:47.

You can see the focus in the eyes. That was a change leg to ring. Half

:08:47.:08:53.

turn, walkover, leg up into the side... Oh! Into the side

:08:53.:09:03.

somersault. She went for the connection but just off-line. Now...

:09:03.:09:13.
:09:13.:09:14.

She needs to settle herself. Such style, you know she never

:09:14.:09:24.
:09:24.:09:25.

moves without every toe pointed. Full extension.

:09:25.:09:35.
:09:35.:09:39.

A free walkover, into the back flip. She has not given in. A big

:09:39.:09:43.

dismount and double pike. A little pace forward. It may have had a

:09:43.:09:48.

fall, but there was a lot of good work as well.

:09:48.:09:51.

You really thought nothing was going to go wrong all the way

:09:51.:10:01.
:10:01.:10:01.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 44 seconds

:10:01.:10:59.

through. Big control, then this. Hips nice and square.

:10:59.:11:09.
:11:09.:11:14.

She is absolutely determined here. The first wobble... A little bit

:11:14.:11:24.
:11:24.:11:37.

nervous but that was good, such control here.

:11:37.:11:44.

Finishes with a double pike. A pace forward. She did have an

:11:44.:11:48.

opportunity there. She could stamp her authority, her control on the

:11:48.:11:52.

apparatus, but she started off nerve accountsly.

:11:52.:11:56.

This was a fabulous performance. She takes the head back. You lose

:11:56.:12:02.

siergt of the beam and have to recover yourself. -- you lose sight

:12:02.:12:08.

of the beam but she recovers herself. What an element of variety

:12:08.:12:13.

she showed us. Romania are happy.

:12:13.:12:19.

Indeed, but which way will it go. There is conformation that Catalina

:12:19.:12:23.

Ponor takes the gold ahead of her team-mate. What about that, Hannah

:12:23.:12:32.

Whelan is taking a bronze! Hannah Whelan steps up on to the medal

:12:32.:12:39.

podium. With a beaming smile and rightly so.

:12:39.:12:49.
:12:49.:13:04.

Catalina Ponor, the European champion and silver going to her

:13:04.:13:09.

team-mate. Now, Rebecca Tunney in the floor

:13:09.:13:14.

final. I knew I would do a good job with

:13:14.:13:18.

the landing, I did not think that I would get into the final, but it

:13:18.:13:22.

was a nice shot. Why? Is that because you thought it

:13:22.:13:27.

was just your first championships? Well, the floor is not my strong

:13:27.:13:33.

point. I know that a lot of people do a lot harder tumbles. They are

:13:33.:13:40.

hard for me, but a lot of others do harder tumbles, so I was not

:13:40.:13:43.

expecting it. Catalina Ponor got a gold n for the

:13:43.:13:50.

team. A gold on the beam. Could she get a triple here? Oops, a little

:13:50.:13:53.

out of control. Of course, this is not an easy ride

:13:53.:13:58.

at all. Here we go. A double layout,

:13:58.:14:06.

beautifully done. The acceleration, two whips, flick

:14:06.:14:16.
:14:16.:14:19.

into full twisting double. This is lovely.

:14:19.:14:24.

On the beam she gave us grace, here she is giving us power and lots of

:14:24.:14:30.

grip. The audience are totally with her.

:14:30.:14:33.

A big pull through the flick. A triple twist.

:14:33.:14:43.
:14:43.:14:46.

I tell you, the tumbling is great. Warming as she goes. Selling the

:14:46.:14:56.
:14:56.:15:18.

The double pike with just a tiny pace back. What about that? It's a

:15:18.:15:23.

benchmark to set. A fabulous routine, got all the tumbling. This

:15:23.:15:30.

is the quad spin. She fell out of it a bit, but then she followed it

:15:30.:15:35.

up with this double straight, holding the body in the straight

:15:35.:15:43.

position. She's given a six for the difficulty. That is indeed the

:15:43.:15:49.

score to beat. Our attentions turn then to Vanessa Ferrari. She was a

:15:49.:15:54.

European champion on floor back in 2007 in the world champion all

:15:54.:15:59.

round. She took gold in the Olympic test event not so long ago an this

:15:59.:16:05.

apparatus, so she's on firm, Mitch? Yes, this is powerful. A double,

:16:05.:16:10.

double. Deep on the landing. That's an example she has adapted in her

:16:10.:16:20.
:16:20.:16:20.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 44 seconds

:16:20.:17:24.

it a little. That was a lovely will, the determination and still

:17:24.:17:31.

has the technique. Just a little pace back on the double pike. She

:17:31.:17:39.

survived the difference. She's still a contender. The double pike

:17:39.:17:44.

dismount, the skip backwards. It wasn't faultless, but it was very

:17:44.:17:54.
:17:54.:18:02.

member of the senior British squad, Rebecca Tunney. She's 15. Trains at

:18:02.:18:12.
:18:12.:18:17.

the City of Liverpool. Very sparkly young gymnast. With a

:18:17.:18:24.

very big opening tumble. How's she going to fare? Up into a massive

:18:24.:18:30.

double Arabian and she fared perfectly well. Now has to find

:18:30.:18:35.

some legs for the second big tumble. Full twisting double pike. She does

:18:35.:18:45.
:18:45.:18:45.

the same again. Now we need expressive dance as well. She's

:18:45.:18:55.
:18:55.:19:09.

very fast, very powerful. with this complex run. One-and-a-

:19:09.:19:19.
:19:19.:19:30.

half. Can she make the two-and-a- there. We have seen super tumbling

:19:30.:19:40.

so far. Strong double pike. Just a hop back. Well, a great performance

:19:40.:19:46.

for her first ever European final. Outstanding. Absolutely brilliant.

:19:46.:19:52.

It's such a shame about that step back. How costly be that be, Chris?

:19:52.:19:59.

0.303 for the step and 0.1 out of the floor so 0.4. -- 0.3 for the

:19:59.:20:07.

step and 0.1 out of the floor so 0.4. Fast, powerful. Very hard-

:20:07.:20:17.
:20:17.:20:39.

working. Up into third at the power here. Look at the

:20:39.:20:46.

acceleration. Incredible. Still the power. Look at this! Almost

:20:46.:20:56.
:20:56.:21:07.

overcooked it but kept it in. Mind- Can't wait to get going into the

:21:07.:21:17.
:21:17.:21:51.

next tumble. Superb through the party for the medals. Double tuck.

:21:51.:21:59.

Souper. Brilliant, lively, vivacious, fabulous. Unbelievable

:21:59.:22:09.

for 15! Extraordinary gymnastics. Is it a gold each? I think it is.

:22:09.:22:13.

Now this she did really well. Double twisting, double back and

:22:13.:22:18.

lands with not a problem. That's the best I've seen her perform it

:22:18.:22:28.
:22:28.:22:31.

in this Championships. Larisa Andreea Iordache has got it! Wow, a

:22:31.:22:41.
:22:41.:22:43.

massive score. Great Britain's Hannah Whelan is up next. All

:22:43.:22:52.

around British champion. English floor champion. 19. Can she add

:22:52.:22:59.

another medal to the bronze she got on beam? Triple twist. Lovely and

:22:59.:23:09.
:23:09.:23:39.

the two-and-a-half and does what's thrown into the floor routine. Very

:23:39.:23:49.
:23:49.:24:09.

original dance. Fabulous landing She's selling it well. Just hope

:24:09.:24:15.

she's kept the energy right to the end. Come on, Hannah. Lift up high,

:24:15.:24:20.

double pike! It's there! What a performance. A real professional

:24:20.:24:25.

performance there, Matt? Tell you what, I am really excited, OK, she

:24:25.:24:31.

scored 14.333 in qualification, she needs over 14.4 to go up into

:24:31.:24:34.

bronze. Such confidence all the way through

:24:34.:24:39.

and it wasn't just the tumbling, it was the way she danced away,

:24:39.:24:46.

projected really sold the routine, went for it. It's there! What about

:24:46.:24:56.
:24:56.:24:57.

that?! Hannah wheelen has a bronze medal, snatched it off Ferrari --

:24:57.:25:04.

Hannah Whelan. Gold and silver one and two for Romania, Hannah Whelan

:25:04.:25:08.

bronze. Rebecca Tunney in fifth. Hannah Whelan writes herself into

:25:08.:25:15.

the history books for British gymnastics.

:25:15.:25:19.

Hannah you have two bronze medals clinking around your neck. Not

:25:19.:25:22.

content with getting one on the beam, you picked up bronze on the

:25:22.:25:27.

floor as well, you must be delighted? So happy. Very

:25:27.:25:30.

unexpected, just wanted to do some routines, knew I had an outside

:25:30.:25:35.

chance of getting a medal, but two, I'm over the moon. You are the

:25:35.:25:39.

first British any more nast since Beth Tweddle to win an individual

:25:39.:25:45.

at the European Championships, was you aware of that? No. Beth's an

:25:45.:25:52.

amazing gymnast and to be able to almost follow in her footsteps, I'm

:25:52.:25:55.

very happy. Is this a significant step for you in your career to win

:25:55.:26:00.

some medals in a major and put yourself on the map? Definitely.

:26:01.:26:05.

It's great going into the Olympics and for the rest of my career, I've

:26:05.:26:10.

won nationals before, always dreaming of winning Europeans and

:26:10.:26:16.

to come here and win two, I'm so happy. What about Ruby Harrold and

:26:16.:26:19.

Rebecca Tunney also in finals and Rebecca Tunney finishing fifth in

:26:19.:26:24.

her first major? That is fantastic. My first European final I fell

:26:24.:26:28.

twice on beam, that was only last year and the nerves got the better

:26:28.:26:33.

of me, but they are such amazing tallened youngsters, a very bright

:26:33.:26:37.

future for them. Do you think they've set down a stake for an

:26:37.:26:41.

Olympic place? Yes, definitely. So much strength in Great Britain now

:26:41.:26:48.

and this European Championships has shown it. Beth, how have the

:26:48.:26:52.

Europeans been for you this year as a spectator? Great. Britain have

:26:52.:26:56.

come away with a few medals, so it's nice to see. It's great

:26:57.:27:00.

prospects for the future of British gymnastics. Did you predict Hannah

:27:00.:27:06.

would come away with two medals? had a good feeling she'd come away

:27:06.:27:12.

with one individual. I said to her before I left, I've got a feeling

:27:12.:27:16.

Hannah will medal. Would you have thought beam or floor? To be honest,

:27:16.:27:21.

I thought it was going to be beam so it's amazing she's got two.

:27:21.:27:27.

Talking of your coach Amanda, she's worth a mention isn't she? Yes, me

:27:27.:27:31.

and Hannah are the only ones who've got an individual piece medal and

:27:31.:27:35.

she's the only coach in the whole of Britain that has a gymnast

:27:35.:27:38.

individual medal. What does that mean for us in general going

:27:38.:27:41.

towards the Olympics? There is a couple of months left, there's a

:27:41.:27:44.

real confidence there now? Yes, everyone who sees Hannah get a

:27:44.:27:48.

medal, it gives them belief, so the rest of the girls will look up to

:27:48.:27:53.

her, see what she's been doing in training and see, we do what she's

:27:53.:27:58.

done. Ruby and bars, Becky and floor... They've taken on a lot of

:27:58.:28:01.

responsibility? They are the two youngsters, but they've risen to

:28:01.:28:04.

the game and put their stamp on it and proved their point ready for

:28:04.:28:10.

the Olympics. How do you think the men will fare? They usually try and

:28:10.:28:17.

outdo us, hopefully - they've been working hard and looking good - I

:28:17.:28:19.

wouldn't be surprised if they come home with a few medals. It's their

:28:20.:28:24.

turn next week, so it's the men's team final on the 26th May. You can

:28:24.:28:29.

watch that on the red button from 1.25pm, then it's the apparatus

:28:29.:28:33.

finals the day after that on 27th May on the red button once again.

:28:33.:28:37.

You can see highlights of the whole competition on Sunday 3rd June.
