delighted with your own performance? Those penalties? Yes, I knew first

of all that penalty kicks are always 50-50. 80-20! It is easier for the

goalkeeper than for the player. Because the goalkeeper can just win.

And today, I knew if we got the goal, it would be hard for us to get

back into the game. 100%, into one corner. That was a very difficult

game to play? It was, but I think we played very well today. And I think

we should have beaten Germany today. We have those penalties. And quite

good chances as well. It is quite sad. But in a few days, I think we

will be satisfied with the silver medal from this jab injured.

defending together and they did really well. The plan was to score

early but they never get nervous. They conceded a penalty, a perfect

save and they kept on playing and created chances. I really think they

deserved to win. Norway were upset, if you tears were shed. They gave it

a go. I have been so impressed with Norway and they were fantastic.

It was so disappointing for them. They created and we expected them to

defend deeply but they gave it a go and they went and created chances.

It was unfortunate they could not score. Germany scored, only one but

six goals in six matches in the tournament. They scored six goals in

of doing it. They are a young team compare to that team and they are

the attacking force they were. Watching the game, they did not

change defence and attacking with pace and power that they have in the

past. You see in the quarterfinals they won in each game but they work

hard defensively. They still have fair and creativity upfront but

defensively they work hard. It is their belief in the system and the

way they play. It seems to pass through the generations and the

players. The younger players come into the team and they know their

job. They fit in so well and are not overawed by the situation. It is a

credit to watch. A more experienced player who scored the winning goal

with her first touch. Amazing. showed her experience, many players

would snatch at the chance but she played in the semifinal, she was

probably disappointed not to start but it was a fantastic move, the

fact Germany are defending here, she does really well, really composed.

The way they move from defence to attack is a quick, to touch play and

Da Mbabi what a spot to see Mittag. She is on her own and a lovely

finish. I think Norway have defended so well in the tournament when they

beat them in the group phase. allowed Christensen and her

switching positions in play. Christensen is looking at the ball,

power run is a straight line. It is not looking over her shoulder

worrying about whether the players will come in at the far post. A

catalogue of errors that Norway normally are disciplined and strong

in defence but though opened up too much and made poor decisions to

allow them in more easily than in the past. One of the reasons the

Norwegians were upset because they had two penalties and could not

score with either! The consensus was the first one wasn't a penalty. I

will not disagree at all. I was screaming, no way! She made the

perfect jump, a perfect dive. Thank the penalty in the semifinal and

scored. -- Trine Ronning. Angerer adjusts quickly and realises and

it's a good save. What about the second penalty?

Yes, the first one was not a penalty. But here it is a fantastic

run by Hanson. She drives at the defence and makes it so difficult.

She gets sandwiched. Just moving in, it gets both of her legs so she

could not do anything but go down. Gulbrandsen so experienced, a

fantastic save from Angerer again. She hits it, the only issue for me

was the fact she opens up her body and made it easier for Angerer to

read which way she would go. should they have had a third

penalty? Should they? We looked at it again and thought yes. So many

people, even the players, Gulbrandsen worrying about the fact

she has missed but she tries to make amends and gets to the ball first

and get the touch. She dives in and any other stage of play in the game

and the referee would have given it as a penalty but because it was so

close after the penalty in itself, no one really appeals. We were

surprised at that but from here we said penalty. They did, they thought

they equalised, the ball in the back of the net at the English official

was correct in her decision. What a fantastic decision. It was lovely

play. Meyer has been aptly brilliant going forward. You can see she was

offside. You were relieved when you saw that. Possibly you thought it

was an equaliser but we have found a new star. Tell us about Meyer. She

was one of the young players to stand up and take the chance. She

had a fantastic tournament, the first time for her to play in a

tournament and she did fantastic. She is young but reads the game

well. She analyses, she drops in a little bit to cover and with Angerer

she save this which could have been a really good goal. It is fantastic

to see her. She is not nervous at all. She plays the game and is only

20. She plays as if she has been playing for ten years. It is

fantastic to see the future of German football. It is great fun to

watch the new generation play. She was such a tenacious player and

belief in her own ability going forward.

She was demanding and wanting the ball to make a move happen but

defensively switched on and great positioning. How delighted with the

rest of Europe be to see the young Germans coming through?

Maybe not so delighted! For Germany, it is fantastic to see them

at the rest of us, we think, not more great place for Germany! Is

there a production line, are more coming through because we only saw a

fume cos of injuries. It will never stop. We really have a great deal to

be proud of. Germany and in 19, we get the national players into the

coaching system so they come with experience and sorry, to disappoint

you, it keep coming! Do not apologise, we are pleased for you!

with Sue. In terms of the best player of the tournament? Deftly

Sweden. She had a tough game, and she missed a penalty but she

scored. She had a lot of pressure and expectation. You can see the

smile on her face and a relief. I think she did really well in the

tournament. Thank God the goal she scored against Germany in the

semifinal wasn't given otherwise it could have been different. She

performed well. Very much in the minority about wanting the goal to

be ruled out! She was fantastic and she had deferred injury throughout

so she properly wanted to play more. She is a player that is so difficult

to pick up. She finds space. We don't want to see that again because

it is against England but that is what she can do, she can create

chances and score. It is difficult for defenders to play against

players like that. You are always complaining about various things but

one of them is the lack of credit to defensive players. To only concede

one goal, that is down to defence. Angerer stood out, player of the

match and rightly so. Two massive saves. She has done it over many

years already and last time in 2009 was important in the team as well.

And this is the second save. She stood firm and big and you need big

players in big games to stand up and do their job and she did it without

question. What have you made of the goalkeeping in general as it does

get a bad press and quite rightly. But not in this tournament. It was a

great performance from all of the goalkeepers, Norway did well. I

think you can tell some teams are getting good coaches, the club teams

are getting better, better education and the level is higher compared to

four years ago. You can see the improvement which is really

important. The level has increased in the tournament. Has it got

another level to go to? So many of the players do not train full-time.

Yes, obviously the tournament has better goalkeepers, technically but

it can go a step ahead. Players do not train every day, they do fitness

training but with a football they do not. If players can train with the

club every day technically and tactically they will improve. It is

something every nation needs to look at because we are up there and it is

improving but we could go a step above from what it is today. Maybe

this tournament will attract sponsors because that is what is

needed. To enable the players to train more often silly do not have

to work. Yes, if you look at the TV audiences, the people who have

turned up to watch and the Olympics in England last year, it was well

received. It shows the games are going in the right direction and

there are good role models female role models playing the game who

treat themselves right off it and young and good adverts for young

girls to aspire to. Surely there are companies and in Germany you put a

lot of the companies are local to the teams invest heavily in the

local club and in Sweden it happens to allow them to attract the best

players. Local clubs will alight the money to go into those clubs analyse

sponsors to get Byers like that. it so that what players can train

every day. And really their technical ability. It goes higher

every year. -- race. Four years after reaching the final, England

fell at the group stage, their record of one point from three games

meant they left Sweden with their worst record of any team in the

high expectations and at the end of the day, we just did not perform.

From a neutral perspective, what did you think? She just said that they

did not perform and you have to analyse this after the tournament

and it is not only that you lose and did not get out of the group stage

but the way that England was playing, it was not the way that

they could play and you must ask, are their younger players on the

bench that they could have brought in earlier who could have made a

difference, some news spread, like we have seen with Germany. So many

young players. They are so hungry. If anything, it is time for England

to put layers on the field and some new energy. England has a lot of

work to do. Who are those young players to come through? We saw Toni

Duggan, she made an impact. wanted to do something and wanted to

achieve something because she was on the bench. This was such an awkward

time for that goal and we needed to equalise. And actually, she created

lots of chances. And there are other players like Jordan Nobbs, Lucy

Bronze, young players in the squad that we would have liked to have

seen a little bit more. Hopefully at the qualifiers, we should see more

of them. Is it important that England go on to qualify in Canada?

It is, we have to keep developing and this is just a major blood.

Canada, they did not get out of their group in the World Cup and

then got Olympic bronze. I think sometimes defeat can be turned into

a positive thing. Those players will be hurting. If I was those players,

I would be. Add a tournament where they can expect so much from

themselves and not deliver, that feeling will stay with them. But our

group, we should be looking to qualify easily and to have an

opportunity to put some young blood in there. And to experiment a little

bit but formation and teams. -- with formation. Two months ago -- two

months until the first qualifier at Bournemouth. Younger players need to

come through. They want to prove a point and they are hungry and we

need to see that. We have to put this to bed. We did not perform like

we know we can and the players and manager know that and we must forget

that and move on. They can prove that. All of the England home games

in their World Cup qualifying campaign will be shown live on the

teams are Norway. It was such a team effort? It was really hard to pick

only one player and then you have to pick another. And then it is just

really coming back to great team performance, which is what it should

be. What do you remember? I think the crowds and the television

audiences and all the collar and atmosphere around the stadiums.
