Good afternoon and welcome to the most gorgeous day here in Paris. We

are at Longchamp for the greatest day of European racing and the most

stylish. It is Arc Day and we have a field of 16 lining up for the

Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. It is worth �1.9 million to the winner. A

tremendous atmosphere and right now in the Winner's Enclosure because

because Frankie Dettori has ridden his 500th group winner and he will

be coming in behind Willie Carson and myself. It was done in style.

We will show you the highlights of the Group 1 races. Frankie, you are

guarantee a flying mount. It was so dramatic. He came from last to

first on the inside rail. Exrodery stuff. Willie, it has been a

sensational day. It has been fantastic racing and we've got the

best to come. You have the Queen of horse racing, our next race and

then we have the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, the world middle distance

championship of the whole wide world and we have got the whole of

the world watching this race because there is a lot of people

around the world with horses running in this and it means a lot

to be winning here in Paris today. The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe one

of the greatest races and you are going to see a fantastic race.

He is quite a salesman! For those involved, or training it

is a tense day. Freddie Head who trained Goldikova. We will be

talking to Kieren Fallon. He doesn't have a ride in the Arc.

Aidan O'Brien was walking the course earlier with his hole family,

Joseph O'Brien, he rides St Nicholas Abbey for his father who

has three runners. The other two are Treasure Beach and So You Think.

If he won the Arc, he could claim claim to be the best horse in the

world. No reason why not and if he does, I might be saying those

actual words. Don't say them too soon!

Lets look at horses bidding to make headlines in the Arc.

Bred in New Zealand, now trained in Ireland, he is the global commodity

staking his claim to be the best in the world, So You Think.

Ryan scoop Ryan Moore has paired up with Workforce.

Galikov, Galikov, a, the half- sister to Goldikova.

The most successful man is Andre with seven wins.

Globe trotting group one winner, Snow Fairy is a willing and able

partner for Frankie Dettori who rides in the race for a 24th year

It has been hot back home in the UK. It is scorching out here in Paris.

It was hot yesterday and very hot today. And the ground is officially

good. There has been concern in the build-up about how quick conditions

will be. The clerk of the course at Longchamp, responsible for the

conditions, he put 10 millimetres on of water on the course on

Thursday evening and that eased things a bit. We spoke to a few

jockeys yesterday and some said there was some ease in the ground.

Kieren Fallon who rode this afternoon, he suggested the ground

was the oned good side, -- on the good side. It helps give the horses

cushion and helps retain moisture. The jockeys said because of the

heat it will get quicker as the day It is a sensational day. As a race,

it looks the highest class. There are so many horses that can win.

There are eight horses and they have a chance of winning.

Ryan Moore a good story, he rushed back from injury. Just one ride

today on Workforce. I wouldn't put that against Workforce, Workforce

who won this race last year. He won the Derby and that was on fast

ground. So the ground today, we're hearing is good ground. Three-year-

olds have a fantastic record in this race. In the last 20-year-olds,

three-year-olds have won and there is only one five-year-old won it in

20 years. So You Think. Actually, he is not five because he

was born in the southern Southern Hemisphere.

The crowd not just boosted by French racing fans and English

racing fans, but fan fans from Japan.

Let me tell you about the races we have coming up live on BBC Two.

This race is all about Goldikova. It is her last race in Europe.

She won this race last year and she is bidding for a 15th group one

success. There is colts, and fillies and mares lining up for the

Arc, Nicholas Abbey, So You Think and Treasure Beach. It is a really

classy face. They could have a fairytale for the

women. They have three fillies that could finish, one, two, three. What

price would that be? Four. Some really good fillies in the race.

Let's bring you up-to-date on the races so far. We have been showing

them live on the Red Button. Here is happened.

Here come the challengers. What a performance.

For the first race of the day, it is good. Plenty of of horse under

me, but when I come through, he had a lot of power. I rode him before.

there is nothing in it. Tanning Tangerine tree maybe just. Soul

power on the near side. I can't believe it. He progressed

all the time. To win that, it is They race up towards the line.

Zantinder on the rail. She was really decisive. I mean I

didn't know were the others were because I was so biz ki ki keeping

her -- busy keeping her straight. It seems she won easy. It was a

150 yards left to go. Here come the chasing pack. Right down the mid-

side rail, it's Frankie Dettori. Here is Frankie Dettori after

riding your 500th group winner? It is an astonishing number. I'm lucky

that I rode some great horses. Let's hope there are more coming

next. Goldikova will be hard to beat, but if we can get placed I

would be delighted. Snow Fairy is one of my favourites, I think she

will ride a good race. You were excited when Ed gave her

the all clear to run? She is a filly that comes to her own this

the autumn. It is a tough race, but I really believe that she has a

good chance. You seem to be flying it at the

moment? I am now! Every jockey needs confidence and

there is nothing more confidence boosting than riding your 500th

group winner. There Is a man, when his confidence

is high, he pulls things out of the bag.

Like you in that sense. Really? When you were riding well,

everything else happened. All right. Frankie, when there is

the big occasion, there is no better jockey than Frankie Dettori

on the big day and when things are going well. He is the, ah, he is

one of the best jockeys I've ever seen basically in those

circumstances. And what was amazing about that win

and you had to pick it up and just what he does, he never picked his

stick up. The horse is running for him.

He had luck. He did have a bit of luck. But he was very brave in what

he did and that's where the confidence comes in. If he wasn't

riding with confidence, he he would have said to himself, I better get

out of here. I better get my horse into daylight and give him a clean

run. If your confidence is not high. When you are beaming with

confidence, you sit there longer, you sit there and things just open

like they did. Christmas came early to Frankie there!

Sometimes in races and particularly when you get to the Arc you will

see hard luck stories. Last year it didn't go well for for for Sarafina.

Some people are thinking that Sarafina could win the race this

We are back at Rc, it has not been the greatest race. We have had bad

I was unlucky the day I broke my collarbone. That was two years ago?

That was two years ago. I tried to forget this day forever. Then I

finished fourth last year and then I finished second. This year,

arguably your best chance on Sarafina. How unlucky do you think

she was 12 months ago? She was very, very unlucky. You know, when you

nearly fall down in the first, most of the time it means you lost all

your chances to finish in the first four. She still came back and

finished third. In such company, it was a great performance. This year

she has a widish draw. What do you feel about that? She likes to wait,

to be hidden behind another horse. I think it's not a very bad draw

for her. I'm very confident. If I'm not confident with Sarafina, I will

never be confident with any horse. Who do you think the main dangers

are? I really fancy Snow Fairy because she's a top class horse. I

have seen her winning in Japan and then at Hong Kong. She was very,

very impressive, especially if the ground is fast and she will like it.

She is ridden by Frankie Dettori which is a very positive point.

What will it mean to you to win the Arc? For a jockey, it's the best

thing that can happen for you as a jockey. Especially because I'm

French, of course it is the race that we all dream to win. So I just

cross the fingers, I try to do my job as well as possible and then

the class will make the difference. You can tell from listening to

Christophe Lemaire how much it matters to a French-based jockey.

To any jockey, winning the Arc... Any jockey in the world. The

Japanese have never won the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. I would say in

the next ten years, they will do so. They might do it today. They could.

We have the first three back from last year - Workforce and Nakayama

Festa and Sarafina. Is Sarafina the one that could win? I would think

it would be the best of those horses. You have just seen how she

was interfered with at the turn. That, I think, made her a very,

very unlucky filly. She was further forward than I remembered. She ends

up out the back after this interference. You can see he gets

interference. You can see he gets snatched up. Look at that. Then she

still gets out. Workforce narrowly missed it. He went the other way?

He went inside. Workforce got all the luck in the race. You would

have to think was he a lucky winner? Of the older horses she is

the one? She's had the typical French preparation for the Prix de

l'Arc de Triomphe which always seems to work. Only a few races, a

prep race, which was a few weeks ago. She is ready to do herself

justice. I would think of the French, the trainer has got the

three-year-old colt which Reliable Man is another horse that puts a

fly in the ointment. He didn't want to separate the two in his

interview. You would have to think Sarafina has a first rate chance of

winning the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe this year. You have a bug

on you! It's a lucky spider. I haven't had a bet yet. You

shouldn't have done that! It wasn't a lucky spider. It was a bug.

de Royer-Dupre has a fantastic chance of winning. He has the

three-year-old colt. He's got the filly who should have possibly won

it as a three-year-old last year. Had perfect preparation this year

doing into the race. He's sitting - - going into the race. He's sitting

in the box seat. It's been a very difficult race for British trainers

to win. Michael Stoute did it last year with Workforce. Ian Balding

did it 40 years ago with Mill Reef. Michael Jarvis did it with Carol

House. So sad to be here without Michael Jarvis. He died in the last

two weeks and his funeral was on Friday. Hugely well attended in

Newmarket. His death just the day after another racing legend in

terms of Ginger McCain, the trainer of Red Rum. A moment or two to

reflect on the remarkable careers of both men.

The trainer who became a household name, forever associated with Red

Rum, the Southport sands and small yard behind a used car showroom.

Ginger McCain guided the little horse to three Grand National

victories. We thought we would be competitive. When he goes, that was

a bit special. Red Rum is going to win the National! At the line, Red

Rum has just snatched it! People said he's a one-horse trainer. You

are a one-horse trainer. I said, yes. What a bloody good job I had

that one horse! Red Rum wins the National! Of course he was my

friend. If you gave me the choice between him and my wife, she would

have gone very quickly! It's hats off - a tremendous reception at

Liverpool. Red Rum wins the National! What do you think about

it now? I think it is bloody marvellous! Super. Never in doubt

the way I saw it. Not many horses would adapt so well to TV

appearances and turning on the Blackpool illuminations. They were

both celebrities and there was more to come. Coming across the road, we

were going to be a nice fourth. I thought we might have a chance of

being third. Then a hundred yards, I thought we are going to win it!

Flying down the outside, it might be another one for Ginger McCain.

Four Grand National winners, retirement beckoned but not a

diplomatic role. You said what about the pressures? There are no

pressures. That's a load of (BLEEP). His son quickly added another

National to the legend. You have got to give some credit to Donald.

Why?! Go on. If I ever meet his father, I will congratulate him and

ask him where the brains came from! He was passionate about the Grand

National. He spoke his mind. He knew how to write a headline.

Ginger McCain was one of a kind. Michael Jarvis won the admiration

of fellow trainers and the racing public over a 43-year career.

going to be Carol House. In his early days, he led up the winner of

the Derby in 1966. He was favourite so we didn't have any fancy prices.

I used to put a part of my �14 a week on him, you know. We knew we

had something special. Michael's favourite horse was the winner of

the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket. Although the English Derby proved

illusive, the French version didn't. The best was to follow. Tough,

talented temperamental, Rakti. Michael's final classic success

came with Eswara. Eswara goes on to win. One of racing's exceptional

trainers. It was what I was brought up to do. You get up and you go out

and do it. Hopefully, we will have good days, but we had plenty of bad

ones. Michael Jarvis was a gentle man and a gentleman.

Two very contrasting characters. Very much so. Both of them hugely

important to the sport of horse racing? Very much so. The National

Hunt, the National, he was instrumental in bringing the

National back to life. Quite a few years ago, it nearly never was. He

was very helpful in getting it all back. Then you have Michael Jarvis,

the stable lad who looked after Charlotte's Town, the Derby winner,

dropped the rein and had to run after him. He was the most quiet,

gentle, gracious - you would say such a calm person, but everybody

in racing loved Michael Jarvis. He was a great sort of cool customer.

You know the day they won the Arc here, I was standing behind Michael

and he said, "What won it?" And Gay turned round and said, "We did!"

He's been ill a long time. Put it this way, it wasn't a shock. No.

was a great man. A wonderful man. He inspired such loyalty in the

people that worked for him. Phillip Robinson associated with so many of

those great horses. Phillip, the day of Michael Jarvis's funeral,

the news came through that Phillip Robinson had decided to retire as a

jockey. Probably the right decision to make, but the timing was

terribly emotive? It was. There we go. We have to get on. We have lost

a great man in Michael Jarvis. Phillip Robinson comes to a great

career at the end. Now, we've got the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Before that, we have the Prix De La Foret and the chance for French

crowds to bid goodbye to Goldikova who is on her way down to the start

on the far side there with the white cap. Goldikova, one of the

world's great horses and a 14-time- winning Group 1 matter going for a

record extending 15th win in a Group 1. Then she will go to the

Breeders' Cup in America and try and win the Breeders' Cup Mile for

a fourth time. No horse has ever done that. Everything she does now

is breaking a record. I have seen her look better in the paddock. Her

coat was a bit dull. I have seen her look better. I'm with the

trainer of Goldikova. How will she get on today? I hope she does well.

We have a leader. She seems well. As well as ever, I think. We will

see. Cross our fingers. She looks better today than she did at Royal

Ascot? I don't know. I don't know. You can't say that. I mean, maybe

she's better in the autumn than she is in the spring. I think she's

been good all year-round. She's got such a great fan club. Can you tell

people that she is still as good as ever? I am sure she is. The main

goal is the Breeders' Cup. Good luck. There is the great matter,

Goldikova, Olivier Peslier in the saddle. Let's check the runners and

afternoon so far in terms of records. Kasbah Bliss winning at

the age of nine. A tense Group 1 win for William Buick and also a

500th Group race win for Frankie Dettori. So what will be the story

here? Well, it will be interesting which ever way it goes. Goldikova

is the one that everybody is talking about. William Buick gets

the ride on Dream Ahead. He looked well in the paddock. Seven furlongs,

possibly a bit stretch for him. He seems to be a better horse over six.

Goldikova - it's a trial race, but I am sure that is all it will be.

It will be a trial for the Breeders' Cup. This guy, who is our

champion sprinter elect, Dream Ahead, would like a bit more juice

in the ground than he is going to get today. Possibly you won't see

the best of him. Dream Ahead the winner of the July Cup and the

Sprint Cup at Haydock. Frankie by birth. Marchand D'or a former

Abbey horse is going to be the last one in and Jim McGrath is our

Goldikova starting from stall two. Second from the camera. That's it.

They're ready. Racing! A good line. Down near the inside

Flash Dance is ridden hard with the whip to try and lead, but can't get

there, Goldikova cruising on her outside. Now striding up is

Worthadd. Frankie Dettori now the pacemaker gets into stride and

starts to clap on a bit of pace. In third is Goldikova. In the

slipstream of the pacemaker. Dream Ahead is on the outside. Tucked

away, Dever Dream. Second last is Bewitched and Marchand D'or is last.

Racing up the strait towards the home bend, just over three furlongs

to go and the second Winning Post. Into the home strait now. It is

Flash Dance in front. In behind them is Goldikova going well.

Further back in the field Dream Ahead. Further back, Dever Dream

has broken down and dropped right now. Half-way up the home strait,

Goldikova got through on the inside. Worthadd is challenging and here is

Dream Ahead on the outside. Goldikova the champion mare she

gets down to fight here. It is Goldikova and Dream Ahead. She is

sticking at it. She is a champion. She is just in front. Now a lunge

from Dream Ahead. They hit the line. It is very tight. Dream Ahead and

Goldikova in a photo. Surfrider followed by Bewitched and behind

them is Worthadd and then followed by Marchand D'or and last is Flash

Dance and Dever Dream unfortunately has broken down, but this is a

championship race and what a champion filly. Two champions.

They raced towards the line. She won't give in, the filly, but Dream

Ahead maybe just. From Goldikova, it is very tight. It is a bob and a

gap then to Surfrider followed by Bewitched and they were clear then

of Worthadd and Marchand D'or. And it is very tight. William Buick,

maybe his second group one success of the day. He was successful in

the race before. He has no doubt that he has won. David Simcock is

the trainer. This is a marvellous racehorse. It had to cope with

quick ground and has gone to the line with a champion in Goldikova.

this. The angle is deceptive and Jim is saying it is tight because

the television angle makes it look as if Dream Ahead won more easily

than he may have done. Goldikova hitting the front here with her

head down. She doesn't get too far off the ground. She is just a

racing machine and Dream Ahead coming on the right of the picture.

William Buick almost not wanting to take her on too soon because he

didn't want to give Goldikova the chance to fight back, but Dream

Ahead is confirmed the winner. William William Buick has managed

to win this on David Simcock's horse. They denied Goldikova a

winning farewell to her French fans. A fantastic race. Our champion

sprinter, he had the speed to beat this champion mare, seven furlongs

in all fairness, it is not her best trip. It is short of her best trip.

It is not his best trip either. I thought possibly he would be

better over six furlongs rather than search, but he proved me wrong.

He beat the champion, the Queen of racing by the shortest of short

heads by the looks of it, but it is his day today. Goldikova, she can

go to the Breeders' Cup and possibly once she runs over there

and finishes her career on a winning note.

Freddie Head was straightforward about the fact that this was a prep

race for the Breeders' Cup. He was not necessarily expecting to win.

The colours that were carried to Derby success.

William Haggas trained him. I was struggling to get his name.

Credit to David Simcock, I think he did a fantastic job. They were

joint rated. Yes, at two. But to have brought the plans of trying to

get him to stay further and to come back and say, "We have got a

sprinter on our hands. Six or seven furlongs, we can win group one

races at this distance.". It will be interesting to see if they keep

him in training and go for all the sprint raceds. There was a -- races.

There was a story going around that he might retire. Well, we will see

what happens after the race and see if the owner does want to him in

training another year, but he is a very, very good horse. The two

horses Goldikova and him, they went away from the rest of the field and

we were watching. Two magnificent horses.

The cameras in the second place were around Goldikova and tracking

her through with Olivier Peslier being surrounded with microphones

and being asked what happened. What does it tell us for the next

race? This guy he needs sponge in the ground. He has gone out there

and beat the Queen of horse racing so the ground has got to be all

right for the horses in the Arc de Triomphe. The ground is going to be

OK for those horses. Brilliant pictures from fench

television. -- French television. Racing looks so more beautiful when

you can actually see hat horses are doing and the look in their eye.

beaten. There is Olivier Peslier who rode her. They will go to

America with high hopes of winning the Broadmeaders Cup mile. When she

actually won two years ago, in 2009, she was third in this race. Last

year she won it. So she goes here off the back of a second. She is a

fantastic mare. A six-year-old mare. There is William Buick coming back.

What a great day and he rides Masked Marvel in the next race

coming up on the BBC. William Buick doing something he has become very

accustomed and that's entering the Winner's Enclosure after a group

one race. Sadly, Dever Dream doesn't look in good shape. She

broke down. The attendants are with her. I think Maureen Haggas is with

her and Richard Hughes. We will There is huge amounts of of people

here in preparation for the Arc. Willie, a really good build-up?

have had fantastic racing today. The British horses are doing well?

This Arc de Triomphe, there is eight horses in the race, you could

say, you could bet. If you said what about? I would say I couldn't

put you off because there is a case for all the horses.

We will discuss those this a moment or two. You and I are looking

forward to two weeks time when it will be the first ever British

Champions Day. We're going to have something like

this. this.

For 300 years horses have been racing here at Ascot and the people

come because it has a sprinkling of stardust. It is special and

historic. There are moments in life when you

want to be able to say, "I was William Buick will be featuring.

William, a fantastic afternoon. A tremendous horse who you have had

to be patient with. David has trained this horse to

perfection. He has not been easy the whole way through. There is no

point in saying David is a good trainer because everybody knows he

is a a fantastic trainer. Everything panned out today. I wish

Goldikova wasn't second because she is the people's favourite and I am

a fan myself. He was a worthy winner and the best horse won the

race and I always said he would be better in a big race and today he

went up and he had done enough then. You are being taken away. Good luck

with Masked Marvel. A hugely glamorous day and anyone

who turns up is wearing a hat and you can get in for free. They have

come here to enjoy a social day out as well as the racing and they have

been treated to some exciting finishes and for all fans of

British racing, it is exciting that the the Prix De La Foret was won by

a British horse. You came over with the horse. We

saw you rush out to greet David. was at Ebbsfleet and they made an

announcement that the train was not leaving London because of a

technical problem. Has he got home? He is delighted.

It is a good omen. Last time Prohibit won Robert Cowell had

travel difficulties and didn't make it. I said, "Don't worry, it is

fine. We don't need you.". Do you know if he will race on next year

or not? You hope so? I hope so, but no,

there is nothing official as to what will happen, but we would love

to train him obviously because he has been very good to us, very

special to us What a see season it has been?

amazing. It was a slow start with Dream Ahead, but David had immense

faith in him, yeah very special. Is that it for him this year?

That's his last run the owner's ownership.

There has been some deal done? There was a lot of interest after

his couple of runs and there will be an announcement. But it is not

my place to make it right now. Well, I won't press you.

As your husband is not here to glory in this, what would you like

to say about him and the team and I know how hard you work and how

strong a part. You came over yesterday with the horse? No, it

has been a massive team effort. We started out in 2004, but to have a

horse of Dream Ahead's calibre. It is what you dream of of and it

makes a difference. And raising morale and attracting support to

the to the yard, but they have been our best owners to date.

A tremendous effort and what a horse. Well handled by him. I am

going to make may way back over to Willie. Snow snow Snow Fairy coming

over under the care of Ed Dunlop. She has been off over the world

winning prize money. She will be the 24th consecutive ride in the

Arc for Frankie Dettori and Ritchie went to Newmarket to see Snow Fairy

and to talk to her trainer, Ed Ed Dunlop has been to the Arc

before with a filly. He is back there again with another great

filly, Snow Fairy who is just behind us. From my untrained eye,

she looks magnificent, what do you think? We are happy with her. She

is in good form. Her work has been very pleasing and we'll give it a

go. She is better than she was last year, but whether that's good

enough to be winning an Arc or placed in an Arc, only time will

tell. She is unbelievable. She is

fantastic. She makes my morning coming in every day, she never does

anything, but she likes to have a snarl at you. If you have a packet

of Poloes or a carrot and she is your best friend.

Can you tell us about Snow Fairy as aierling, it is amazing that she

will be running for 1,000 times, This filly was not wanted by anyone

and was brought back by the stud for 18 euros. She won over �2

million in prize money last year so thank God nobody wanted her. It is

pure luck. Aren't we lucky to have horses to get you out of trouble?

Snow Fairy, what a ride this is. Snow Fairy wins the Oaks. At the

end of last year, Snow Fairy achieved a double by winning two

highly-competitive Group 1s in Japan and Hong Kong. I sometimes

feel people don't appreciate how significant her achievements abroad

were? We were in quarantine. We stumbled and fell over. She scraped

her knees. I ended up with ten stitches in my bottom lip.

filly ripped her knees open. She spent eight days there. Then she

was boxed down to Kyoto and she won. We then took her to Hong Kong and

she won the Hong Kong Cup beating the colts. Snow Fairy races up.

What a season for the British three-year-old filly! Ouija Board,

she kept going. This filly stays in training next year. That is great

news for us. Is she better? I don't know. I think this filly is

probably tougher. She is more aggressive than Ouija Board was.

Ouija Board's Arc run was seven years ago. What do you remember of

that afternoon? She was very unlucky. She got too far back.

Could happen on Sunday. She finished third. It was a

finished third. It was a frustrating day. Cherry Mix on the

far side. Ouija Board coming now. Baigo wins the Arc. Snow Fairy

warmed up for this year's European showpiece on the back of her best

run ever losing out to So You Think. She is back to her best now. She

feels fantastic. I would love her to win. One of the exciting things

about when you have a runner in a big race, we enjoy replaying the

moment of celebration. Those few moments seem like... A bit of a

football hooligan! Apologies to those who don't like the way we

celebrate. If we won the Arc, it would be the biggest day in my

training career. Good luck to the whole Snow Fairy team. Among those

looking forward to the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is Bo Derek.

She's over here promoting the Breeders' Cup for this year and

hoping to get as many European runners as possible to add to the

glamour of that occasion. Horses are not here yet. So we can give

you a full rundown of the runners and riders with Jim.

One of the best Arc fields seen for quality line-up in the pre-parade

ring at the moment. The horses being saddled up before they are

brought out in front of this fantastic crowd here. That is like

a... There is Sarafina, the favourite. That is like a

collecting ring. After they get saddled they get into their right

order and before they come out to parade around the paddock they

always come out here together in their race card order. That's like

a collecting ring away from everybody. A moment to collect your

thoughts as well for connections and horses to remain as calm for as

long as possible? Yes. It is the most beautiful paddock and

situation here at Longchamp with all these nice trees. The trees

turning to all the different colours of brown. Andre Fabre there.

Bo Derek wouldn't have had to supplement anything? We have

already interviewed Bo Derek. was she? She was fine. I did ask

her if I got her into trouble asking her about her bikini! That

is the Japanese presenter giving her... Support to their two runners.

The Japanese contingent fancy both their horses. I think they think

Hiruno D'Amour might be the one. Because he is working so well.

Since he's arrived here, he's had his trial race. He's improved on

his trial. He's given out his wellbeing by galloping and working

so well here. So they have got high hopes of a Japanese winner for the

Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. other horse, Nakayama Festa was

second to Workforce last year. the preparation with this race in

mind. He will run, obviously, better than he's run since the race

last year. He will do a bit better than he did last year. That is what

the Japanese will be hoping. I don't know who that guy is, do you?

I don't know. I guess he is famous. Here is another famous person.

is the most successful trainer in Arc history, Andre Fabre. Meandre

is not a bad substitute? Exactly. He showed similar form on good

ground. So I think he will have a fair chance. How do you assess the

quality of the race? There's a lot of question marks in this race. The

quality of the three-year-olds compared to the older horses, to

the females as well. A lot of questions. It looks quite an open

race. In terms of your confidence coming into it, compared to the

other winners of the Arc, how are you feeling? He is more of a hope

than a certainty. He has a big heart. He likes the fast ground.

I'm - he will run a good race. Thank you. Andre Fabre. And the

horses still haven't appeared from the saddling boxes. They get

saddled up down in the cool over here and get led out by a show

horse almost. It is quite a performance, quite dramatic. It

also means that most owners and trainers are still down there with

their horses and the crowd waiting to get their first glimpse. They

won't come round very many times, so keep your eyes peeled. Let's

take a look at two of the main protagonists for this race. In a

moment, we will have a look at the form guide. Sarafina going round

the paddock again. Sarafina, Willie owned by the Aga Khan. He tends to

retire them at three. He was determined to keep her in training

for this particular day, to take revenge for what happened last year,

or avenge what happened last year? Yes, she's the favourite. You would

have to think she has a first rate chance of winning this race this

year. But there are a lot of animals in the race with great

chances. Hasn't he got a lovely beard?! The walrus. Two of the

horses were seen in last year's Eclipse. Snow Fairy ends up being

beaten a long way. How good a race was this? He was committed to go

early, Workforce, and try and take the sting out of So You Think. He

wasn't able to do so, So You Think had just that little bit of turn of

foot that he couldn't repel. There you can see that this Australian-

New Zealand bred horse, a champion, a big superstar that he is, won the

day. Snow Fairy there, she finished quite a way back. She was having

her first run for quite some time. She would improve. That's when she

went to Leopardstown. She got a lot closer to So You Think. So if she

improves again, that cloudys the picture even more. Yes, it does.

Workforce, though, people will say that he is back to the trip that

suits him best, the mile-and-a- half? It definitely will. He will

be suited by that. What about So You Think? So You Think - I would

have preferred a mile and a quarter with him. I definitely know that he

is the best horse. That's over a mile and a quarter. So You Think

will be running in the colours of Derek Smith, as will St Nicholas

Abbey and Treasure Beach. Is it luck that the three of them are in

your purple and white? Absolutely. That is the way it goes. It is

great to have the choice to choose the colour hats. They are three

talented horses. How do you sum them up? Well, Treasure Beach, he's

done nothing wrong this year. Wins the Irish Derby. Wins in America.

So You Think, his reputation goes before him. St Nicholas Abbey, I

suppose a champion two-year-old. Didn't make it last year. This year,

ran some solid races. We are hoping for the best. We wish you luck. The

horses have come into the parade ring. They are headed by Workforce,

last year's winner, who looks very relaxed and very cool. It is an

extremely warm day here. So interesting to see who is sweating

up and who is absolutely fine. 2 is St Nicholas Abbey. We were talking

to his owner. He is a fine-boned horse. Not much of him. 3, the grey,

that is Silver Pond. Then we have Hiruno D'Amour followed by Nakayama

Festa who was second in the race last year. Here comes the big beast,

So You Think. Pat giving us a wink. He is enormous! He's got the tattoo,

the numbers that you see on New Zealand-bred horses. He did all his

racing in Australia. He's only been beaten once in five starts since he

joined Aidan O'Brien. This looks as if it is Treasure Beach. It is. He

is getting a bit warm. That is Meandre. Then we have Masked Marvel.

He has been supplemented in the race, a St Leger winner. Now we

have Sarafina. So we will have a whole string of fillies. That is

Snow Fairy and then with the sheepskin nose band we have Shareta.

Testosterone here. I think that is a bizarre name for a filly. I have

to say, -- I think that is a bizarre name for a filly, I have to

say. Danedream and then Galikova. We are going to try and find the

Workforce team. Ryan Moore coming back after his very serious injury,

which saw him out for two months with a broken thumb and a broken

shoulder. Obviously, Workforce have been concerned about the --

obviously workforce - the team have been concerned about the ground.

Sir Michael Stoute in the grey suit right in front of us. Remember,

this is a big price for a horse that won the race last year but won

the Derby in a record time. If you pan down for me, Prince Khalid

having a look at Ryan Moore's thumb and hand and checking with him if

he is all fit to go and he is saying he very much is. Came back

on Friday with two rides on Ascot and said after that there will be

no problem, and the Arc and riding Workforce in the Arc was very much

the catalyst for the speed of his return. He wouldn't have bothered

for just any old race or horse. But this is the one that he wanted to

be here for and just - Michael? Can I ask you one thing? Can I ask you

one thing? Ryan is all set to go. Is the horse all right? Are you

suitable as last year, but yeah, he is in good shape and he travelled

well. Yeah, in good nick. Alain de Royer-Dupre Has two

runners and both are fancied. You can see Christophe Lemaire with

his arm around Christophe's shoulder.

You can see the cameras. They are all focusing on the owner. He has

had so much success over the years as did his grandfather and it is a

race that he doesn't just ask his trainers to train horses for, he

breeds them to try and win the Arc and Alain de Royer-Dupre talking

through what they might be trying to do with Sarafina. Last year we

saw how unlucky she was when Midas Touch came through the field.

Sarafina has an outstanding chance and Shareta too.

The jockey in the foreground is the man who I suspect will set the pace

and decide how fast they're going and that is an important part of

the scene. Let's dive over here and have a look and she if we can find

John gas den who has -- Gosden who has Masked Marvel in the race.

William Buick must be bursting with confidence because it has been a

good afternoon for him already and John Gosden advising the owners to

pay the 100,000 euros to supplement Masked Marvel as a late entry into

the Arc after he won the St Ledger and he won the St Ledger in record

time so he is a horse who can stay, but he has plenty of pace as well.

He has a turn of foot and they are happy to take their chance. And

William Buick going to get a leg up. Some of the jockeys are on board,

Workforce who is watchdoging behind John, he -- walking behind John,

Ryan Moore won't get on until he gets to the exit. Let's look at the

Just getting on her toes. Snow Fairy is cool and Frankie is cool

as well. Galikova with Olivier Peslier. Olivier and Frankie are

both trying to win the Arc for the fourth time which would put them

among a list of record winning jockeys in the race including

Freddie Hett. Now here comes Ryan Moore on Workforce. You can have a

look. He has this Australian nose band on, the orange one and a cross

nose bnd over that -- band over the top of that to keep his mouth shut

and he can hold him in the early stages. It is a warm day and I

don't think he looks too bad. He looks well in fact. Joseph O'Brien

gets his first ride in the Arc on St Nicholas Abbey. He is a

difficult ride. He is warm. He is a fractious horse, but Joseph has

ridden him already in top class company and I think actually will

just ride him with full confidence and probably drop his hands on him

and try and relax him and say, "If you are good enough, go and do it."

Here is So You Think. He must be 100 kilos heavier. Behind him,

Treasure Beach is dripping with sweat. It looks like he has bubbled

over and that's the problem, you know, yes, OK fine to sweat when it

is this warm, but if you get that geed up, you will expand energy and

negate your chances. All right, Frankie. He is so relaxed. He is so

happy. "look at me." He says. So really exciting Arc de Triomphe. A

great race in prospect. Sarafina looks calm and collected

and unlike a few in in this field, Willie. It is a very hot day, but

if there is one horse who did look a little bit warmer than most which

was Treasure Beach. He was just sweating a little bit too much and

of course, the other filly who is sweating is Galikova. She is

sweating a bit more than you would like. She only ran in her group 1-2

weeks ago and she had a toughish race that day. It is not the ideal

thing to be running in a group one as the trial for another group one

against older horses and colts as well.

Well, the horses are about to come out for the Prix de l'Arc de

Triomphe. The best race for three- year-old and over in Europe.

Coming out into the course, there is a change of colours, number

three, Silver Pond. It will be different to what you're seeing in

the papers today, now purple and orange stripes.

The runners are coming out on to the course today for the Prix de

l'Arc de Triomphe of 2011. A field of 16. There is last year's winner,

Workforce. Let's have a look back to St

Nicholas Abbey and Joseph O'Brien wearing the black cap. A big thrill

for Joseph, 18 years of age and destined to become a jump jockey

and savouring every moment of his big opportunity to ride in one of

the world's great races. Such a thrill for a young rider.

Dropping back to number three, which is Silver Pond, 150-1

outsider. Dropping back to Hiruno D'Amour from Japan. One of the of

the two Japanese runners second to Sarafina. There is last year's

runner-up, Nakayama Festa. A very brave second to Workforce last year

and Ryan Moore having to dig very deep to repel this challenger from

Japan. He has has been lively since then. So You Think, the New Zealand

bred, Australian champion. He is twice the winner of the Copse Plate

in Australia. He has come to Europe and won four of his five races. The

hopes of many nations resting on this fellow. He was bred in New

Zealand and trained in Ireland. Treasure Beach, the Irish Derby

winner. That's number seven, that's Sarafinament third last year and a

very unlucky third as well and since she has been out and she has

come back to racing in good form. She won a race in the summer.

They are making their way, a few of them are breaking off. Yellow with

the dark blue cap, you will see, the winner over a distance. They

have broken away now and they are making their way to the mile-and-a-

half start for the the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

It is worth �1.9 million to the winner, but for than that, it is

worth a place in history. It is one of the greatest races in the world.

The greatest in Europe. What a star line-up we have this sear.

going to get the better of Seville head towards the line. Sarafina has

lengths clear and he is going to win comprehensively. Reliable Man

wins. And it is Galikova now who goes on

in the St Ledger. And Galikova has Think and Snow Fairy really put it

up to him. William Buick wants a go.

It is Masked Marvel for John Gosden and William Buickment they win by

was Treasure Beach, Hiruno D'Amour and Galikova, I've changed my mind

and looking a the them in the paddock, the shortlist as far as

I'm concerned is Workforce, So You Think, who looks magnificent and

Snow Fairy. I don't know. What do you think, Willie? I would pick six

horses to win the race. I'm going to go for Sarafina because she has

had the best, not the best, but a perfect preparation for this race.

Let's hear from the man who trains more horses in the race than anyone

else, Aidan O'Brien. Aidan O'Brien ushered his three

three runners down to the start. How are they taking the

preliminaries? So far everything seems to be fine. It seems that So

You Think is your number one hope. A mile-and-a-half, do you think

that that is a trip that will suit him? We have never raced him beyond

a mile and a a quarter so you are never sure. He is a horse who has

plenty of pace over a mile and a quarter. It will be interesting.

His run was in the Melbourne Cup over two miles. Different

conditions of a race. In these races, it will be interesting to

see. What's the story with Treasure

Beach? Clare pointed out that he was getting warm.

He does that. He is a sweater. We would be probably be more worried

if he doesn't do it. That's the type of horse he is. He comes up

for it when the time comes. St Nicholas Abbey is a horse that

does that as well? A horse with nervous energy as well. They They

seem to be fine. Aidan, best of luck, and hopefully

you will be celebrating in a few minutes time.

I appreciate that. Joseph O'Brien, you can see how tall his legs are.

He wants to be a jump jockey. He is doing very well as a flat

jockey. He wants to stick to that. If he can keep doing nine stone,

why not keep going especially when he has a daddy with so many good

horses. There will be a lot of horses under nine stone and above

that he can ride. He could keep going for another year or maybe two.

He is riding this horse here today in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. I

wonder if he will be one of the horses who will be upfront. He is a

horse that would actually he is a stayer and him being up the front,

out of trouble, he is not a horse that you could sit in behind.

Interesting. I thought they might ride him differently and drop him

out. Almost ride him as if it doesn't matter. Yes, but he hasn't

got the speed to help him get out of trouble. In the Arc, it is like

the Derby, it is rough. Nobody gives you a quarter. Every jockey

is looking after themselves. They don't care about anybody else

In terms of French betting, he is coupled with So You Think and also

with Treasure Beach, but with UK bookmakers you can back them

individually and there are the 1. A very good price. Three-year-

olds have a good record in this race, the colts and and Alain de

Royer-Dupre does think a lot of this guy.

It will be an interesting race. You think St Nicholas Abbey. There

will be somebody ready to make the running in the Arc. It is very

rarely run at a steady pace. They are hoping to get a trouble-

free race with Sarafina. All we want is for everybody to get

a nice, clean run. It is unlikely.

It is unlikely but there is a horse, he looked magnificent in the

paddock. His skin was beautiful. looks really well. If he hadn't of

hung so badly in the King George, but then he ran stinking in the

King George. We're in for a treat. We have a lot

of class, classic type mile-and-a- half horses and So You Think

possibly, he will give a good account of himself, but obviously

will he be as good at mile-and-a- half as a mile mile and a quarterer

and if he is, possibly he will be watching their two contenders.

Jim? So the runners are in. Only one

more to go forward for the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, a mile-

and-a-half, Europe's richest race. And the last one going forward now.

They are locked away. Ready to go now in the Prix de l'Arc de

Triomphe. They are racing! And to the roar of the crowd. In the

centre, one of the first away Treasure Beach, up there too

Shareta going on with St Nicholas Abbey, just behind them on the

inside the Japanese runner Hiruno D'Amour, settles in fourth position.

They are followed by Testosterone who is in the centre, Masked Marvel

is further back, followed by Reliable Man, Danedream is on the

inside, Workforce in the middle of the field. Galikova on his inside,

followed by Meandre, Snow Fairy back then with So You Think, in

company with Sarafina, Nakayama Festa and Silver Pond is at the

tail of the field. Shareta is out in front and Treasure Beach goes on

from Shareta, they are two lengths to Testosterone, further back in

fourth position is St Nicholas Abbey on the inside of Masked

Marvel. Meandre, the white face on the outside, the yellow cap with

the yellow colours in behind, Workforce, Snow Fairy further back,

Sarafina is very wide. They race now towards the far edge of the

course, 1,200 metres to travel, six furlongs from home. Out in front

Treasure Beach from Shareta, in third is St Nicholas Abbey from

Testosterone, followed then by Hiruno D'Amour on the inside of

Masked Marvel, a length-and-a-half to Danedream, further back in the

field is So You Think who has dropped to third last, Meandre is

about -- has six runners behind him. They are followed by Galikova, then

Nakayama Festa, followed by Workforce who is well back again

this year. So You Think has three behind him. Silver Pond is one of

them. It is now Joseph O'Brien who drives St Nicholas Abbey up in the

centre to take the lead as they come to the home turn. On the

inside Treasure Beach, they are followed by Shareta who is battling

on well. They are followed by Danedream and out wide of them is

Hiruno D'Amour, followed by Snow Fairy who is battling on well. It

is anybody's race, the Arc. They race up now half-way up the home

straight and now Danedream for Germany takes it up, from Shareta,

followed by St Nicholas Abbey, Snow Fairy coming late and So You Think,

but Danedream goes on to win the Arc. In second place is Shareta and

third then Snow Fairy, followed by So You Think, came from nowhere.

They were followed by St Nicholas Abbey, further back Sarafina who

couldn't get into it, Silver Pond, further back Nakayama Festa and

among the tailenders as they pull up Treasure Beach, Masked Marvel

and Reliable Man and Workforce is among the tailenders as well. But

it's Danedream who has won it for Andre Starke and also for Peter

Schiergen. The second German winner of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

This filly, who was third in the Italian Derby and winner of the

Oaks in Italy has come good and she's won it by a street. Look at

this. Danedream has won it for Peter Schiergen. In second was

Shareta, who was there for a long way. In third is Snow Fairy. The

former Australian champion, So You Think, has come from third last.

Then St Nicholas Abbey and Meandre, they go to the line together.

Meandre on the near side. Sarafina was trapped very wide early and

could never get into it. Three parts of the way then is Silver

Pond who ran on from a long way back. Then a long gap to the

tailenders. Galikova, Olivier Peslier, Hirlas Horn for Japan, who

was up there early. And behind them, Nakayama Festa in company with

Workforce. And behind them was Testosterone who was handy early

and dropped out. Treasure Beach, who took on a pace making role

today, has tired, as you might expect to finish towards the rear.

Here is the winner and we said beforehand one of the best

collection of horses in Europe seen for many years, a true vintage Arc

on paper. This filly, Danedream, has absolutely walked it. What a

feeling this must be for you? fantastic. I don't believe it.

say you don't believe it. The stands were very quiet. They

couldn't believe this filly has come from out of the blue? Yes.

This is the best horse that I trained in my life. First German

winner since Star Appeal, how special is that for you? A good

moment. Thank you. Peter Schiergen, the greatest

moment of his life. A versatile filly, this. When she won the

Italian Oaks it was fast ground. Here she's come on perfect good

ground and Danedream has come home in front and a one-two-three finish

for the fillies. Snow Fairy the best of the British coming home in

third and she had no hard luck stories, Frankie Dettori got the

gaps when she needed them. But an extraordinary race really because

Shareta, who was there as a pacemaker for Sarafina, managed to

hang on and take second place. Danedream has blown them away.

it seems a strange result but this filly has won a long way. This

filly has just galloped them into the ground. She's won quite a long

way. And the ground is what can be described as good ground. So there

is no real excuses. We didn't see horses getting knocked over. It

looked a clean-run race. Everybody seemed to keep straight. This filly

is obviously a very much improving three-year-old filly. I did say

about three fillies finishing one- two-three but not in that recorder.

Not those three! Extraordinary, and a three-year-old takes it once

again. Real emotional scenes here. Germany will go mad for this. This

is a real boost for their breeding, for their racing, for them in terms

of sport. It's a long time since Star Appeal... 1975. Of course,

German racing is going through quite a bad patch for prize money

and keeping the racing going, the betting public are not betting as

much as they used to. This will help German racing a tremendous

amount getting to win the greatest race over a mile-and-a-half

basically in the whole world. you said any one of eight horses

could win this? This was not one of them. This filly, only last week,

was bought by by a Japanese man, he bought a half share in her. That

was money well spent! Obviously, I would imagine this filly will end

up going back to Japan to be bred over there. There are a lot of

perplexed faces around the paddock. People shaking their heads. One guy

went, "I backed that!" Somebody from Germany had told him. There's

a lot of jockeys walking in with long faces. They are wondering what

the hell went on. Well, what went on was this filly, Danedream, just

galloped them into the ground. She is an exceptionally good filly. Of

course, she's won her last two races and she's a German filly who

is doing well. The German bloodstock, even in England, is

doing so much better. Breeders are always buying German fillies

because they have oar the years bred -- over the years bred sound

horses, horses that haven't had any problems. They are not allowed to

breed in Germany unless they are 100% sound. It is all coming out

now. There you have it, winning the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

winner coming back now and Peter Schiergen who was one of the great

riders in Germany - in fact I think one year he had more winners in his

successful season than Sir Gordon Richards had in the UK. I think he

had 271 winners. He's switched to training and he's obviously one of

the key figures in the training ranks in Germany. This is his

biggest success. The last German- trained winner was Star Appeal

ridden by Greville Starkey. That horse started 119-1. Today, I think

around the 27-1, 28-1 mark. The time was exceptionally fast,

2:24.49. At the start, let's have a look. Have a look at Workforce in

the green colours with the pink cap. He jumped away OK. Now, lying in

seventh or eighth position in the centre. This is the point at which

they are trying to hold position, trying to establish that position

for the rest of the trip, or certainly for the next three-

quarters of the race. And just at this point, Ryan Moore, in the

saddle, watch him, you can see Reliable Man poking up on his

inside. Meandre is on his outside. Look at this, he is the meat in the

sandwich. He has had to check back out of that and that is really off-

putting. That is So You Think behind him. There is Andre Starke,

coming back, the winner of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. A great

moment for German racing, as Willie was saying. They breed very, very

good stayers, but a blend of bloodlines in recent years has

meant they are turning out outstanding racehorses on the

world's stage. This is one of them. Frankie Dettori there disappearing

from shot. There he is. Getting a pat on the shoulder. He wishes he

was there of course! There is Andre Starke, unsaddling Danedream after

this memorable victory. She's a filly who has just come good. If

you look back at her recent record, two starts ago she won a Group 1

there by five lengths. Last time, she won by six lengths and seven.

Really in great form. There's the German flag. German

punters happy. So they should be. And there is winning jockey. And

this is a great international race. It goes around the world. These

images will be going everywhere, predominantly Germany. Here is Ed

Dunlop, the trainer of Snow Fairy, talking to Clare.

Snow Fairy finished third for Ed Dunlop. Slightly frustrating

because third again. She's run great? We are very proud of her.

She was the leading older horse in the race. The fillies one, two,

three, so very pleased. She is very much an autumn-winter horse? Sure.

That was only the fourth run of the year. She will, as long as she is

OK, she will go back to the Japan for the race she won last year.

Maybe the Japan Cup and on to Hong Kong. Let's hear from the winning

jockey with Rishi. Take us through the closing stages,

that must have been a dream for you? It was a dream for me to ride

in this race. I know the filly wasn't a great performance, it was

a very competitive race and good horses. In the last two furlongs,

she kicked and I was, the last two furlongs I was dreaming. I didn't

know what happened. This is a really dream come true. Many

congratulations. Well done. Well, this is an incredible time, we are

still checking it at the moment. We think this is faster than 1997 -

2:24.49. It could be one of the is that and that is confirmed, that

reinforces what a terrific performance this is from Danedream.

What happened to Sarafina? What happened to So You Think? The three

of them are in the line, the second line of horses. Sarafina on the

outside, So You Think next to him and Workforce. You saw how he got

interfered with early on in the race and we can track them through

to see what happened. Sarafina, never had any trouble at all, did

she? She came down the outside and didn't have the turn of foot needed.

As we now know this was run in record time. So obviously they are

going too fast for her and so she has come with her run-down the

outside, there you can see her coming, but she is not picking up

fast enough. And obviously this filly in front ran an exceptional

race today. Something that she has never done before.

They are coming into the weighing room and there is always a great

reception for the winning jockey of the Arc. They are formally sprayed

with champagne and all sorts. And Frankie gives him a big hug as

well. It is interesting because Frankie and Olivier are generous to

people winning big races. They know how much it means and how huge a

minute it is and for someone like Andrew starky. -- Andrew Starke, in

two weeks time we will be live at Ascot.

You can expect to see Frankel there and Twice Over as well and a line

up of stars in different divisions. After this, you can see highlights

of the Super League. A fantastic match between Warrington and Leeds.

The Grand Final is next weekend and Willie and I both be there.

It has been an extraordinary day. I've really enjoyed todayment I'm

shell shocked by how good a racehorse that Danedream is. Yes.

I can't believe a filly can go and break the track record like that.
