Winning the Scottish Cup, reaching that final, making that journey,

:00:51.:00:54.

takes a lot more than just luck. It's all about crossing that

:00:55.:00:58.

finishing line. Whatever the draw, you have to have passion,

:00:59.:01:03.

determination and drive to get over that line. Today's Fourth Round lets

:01:04.:01:12.

teams live the dream. What an upset in the Scottish Cup. Dundee United

:01:13.:01:18.

have beaten Rangers. Queen of the south reached the finish line in

:01:19.:01:22.

2008 but couldn't cross the line. Rangers have won the Scottish Cup. A

:01:23.:01:32.

year later, unfancied Falkirk fell at the final hurdle. They have a

:01:33.:01:37.

chance of revenge. Ross County and Hibs know all about getting to the

:01:38.:01:40.

home straight, yet failing to get across the line.

:01:41.:01:47.

This is where the line was drawn in 2014.

:01:48.:01:48.

But who will cross that finish line? There's a fine line between success

:01:49.:02:01.

and failure, tonight 14 games, 40 goals and all the excitement you

:02:02.:02:05.

would rightly expect from the Fourth Round of the William Hill Scottish

:02:06.:02:08.

Cup. Fresh from the field of battle, St Mirren striker Stephen Thompson

:02:09.:02:15.

joins pat nefb and myself in the studio this evening. We would get a

:02:16.:02:19.

cup shock this weekend. Albion Rovers face Motherwell, there was a

:02:20.:02:21.

change of venue. This traditional football stadium is

:02:22.:02:38.

what the romance of the Scottish Cup is all about. Surely a chance for

:02:39.:02:43.

Albion Rovers to cause a real upset against Motherwell.

:02:44.:02:48.

But it's all quiet here, in fact, the pad rocks are on. -- pad locks

:02:49.:02:54.

are on. This tie has been moved to New Douglas Park, after a recent

:02:55.:03:03.

fire caused damage to the stadium. So, the cup tie was moved eight

:03:04.:03:07.

miles down the road and a stadium that is closer to Motherwell's home

:03:08.:03:14.

ground. But Albion Rovers are being pragmatic about losing home

:03:15.:03:18.

advantage. We don't think we're losing home advantage. The players

:03:19.:03:22.

are enthusiastic about the game today. It's a bigger game for us

:03:23.:03:27.

than for Motherwell. For us it's more about coming here to do their

:03:28.:03:31.

job. For us it's a question of our boys have to come and give their

:03:32.:03:34.

best. Motherwell need to have a bit of an off day for us to achieve

:03:35.:03:38.

something. I wouldn't read too much into the past record. I've heard all

:03:39.:03:43.

week that we've never beaten Motherwell in all our existence. But

:03:44.:03:49.

yeah, it can happen. The last thing we played them 25 years ago, we lost

:03:50.:03:54.

4-0, before I was involved, as it happens. We're looking for a

:03:55.:03:59.

reversal of that today. Fans of the League Two side would take that.

:04:00.:04:04.

Motherwell supporters turned out in force, out numbering their rivals

:04:05.:04:08.

ten to one. It would feel more like a home match for them and they were

:04:09.:04:14.

certainly confident. It's not if or maybe, we have to

:04:15.:04:18.

win. We've never lost to Albion Rovers. Today is not a day to start.

:04:19.:04:23.

I've been supporting them for 72 years and I'm always looking for an

:04:24.:04:28.

upset. Because when I was brought up, my father taught us to support

:04:29.:04:35.

the underdog. I've done that all my days. We don't meet them often, but

:04:36.:04:40.

we'll be glad to take them on. There wasn't much for either sets of fans

:04:41.:04:45.

to get too excited about early on. 20 minutes in Albion Rovers almost

:04:46.:04:51.

shocked their Premiership opponents. Cusack forced the keeper into

:04:52.:04:57.

action. That seemed to spur Motherwell on and minutes later, Bob

:04:58.:05:04.

McHugh tried to head his team in front.

:05:05.:05:11.

As the tie wore on, Motherwell had plenty of possession, but it was

:05:12.:05:17.

Albion Rovers who almost got the breakthrough.

:05:18.:05:24.

McGuigan's effort was just wide. A minute later, Sutton's header was

:05:25.:05:33.

kicked out. The tie looked to be heading for a

:05:34.:05:46.

replay, but into the final minute, there was time for a hero.

:05:47.:05:51.

Step forward Gary Philips and cue the celebrations for Albion Rovers.

:05:52.:06:02.

An historic win then for Rovers as they dump Motherwell out of the

:06:03.:06:04.

Scottish Cup. Speechless I think. I'm so proud. I

:06:05.:06:17.

thought they deserved it based on their work rate. We left Motherwell

:06:18.:06:22.

a lot of the ball in front of us. They never hurt us. I felt that

:06:23.:06:26.

based on the way that we showed a bit more desire, we had the better

:06:27.:06:30.

chances, I feel that we deserved it. It was great. The timing was great,

:06:31.:06:34.

if they'd done it 20 minutes earlier, I don't know if I could

:06:35.:06:39.

have survived it. There's no excuses today. I've been very fortunate in

:06:40.:06:43.

my footballing career, almost 34 years, and that's the first time

:06:44.:06:46.

I've probably been on the end of such a shock like that. They happen

:06:47.:06:49.

in football. It doesn't make it easy to take. Delighted because people

:06:50.:06:52.

need to appreciate that these boys work all week and they don't get

:06:53.:06:56.

paid a lot of money to play for us. It's occasions like this that mean

:06:57.:07:00.

more to them, to beat teams like Motherwell. It's a big thing for

:07:01.:07:03.

them. They don't play for the money. They play for the opportunity to

:07:04.:07:07.

come and give things back to a small club. It's a great day. Without the

:07:08.:07:12.

cup, horrendous feeling. If I'm honest, I don't want to go home. I

:07:13.:07:17.

don't want to face my family and friends. It's an embarrass am. The

:07:18.:07:22.

quintessential cup shock. What will that mean to Rovers today? It's a

:07:23.:07:28.

bad result for Motherwell, but it will mean everything to them.

:07:29.:07:31.

They've never beaten Motherwell in their history. To win today is

:07:32.:07:34.

fantastic. I hope the boys enjoy it. A fantastic goal from Philips as

:07:35.:07:38.

well. How would you sum up this attacking play? It was actually

:07:39.:07:45.

quite a composed finish. It skips up in front of the goalkeeper. It's a

:07:46.:07:51.

great finish from 18 yards. You can see how happy the players are. It

:07:52.:07:54.

means everything to emthis. They'll really enjoy this win and this

:07:55.:07:59.

evening. You can see, it's as if they've won the cup. Former junior

:08:00.:08:05.

player there, you have to feel for Stuart McCall as well. Obviously

:08:06.:08:09.

deeply hurt by this result. What would you say about Motherwell?

:08:10.:08:13.

First of all, it's no accident. He is really suffering there. He's a

:08:14.:08:19.

proud manager and man. They'd have expected and hoped for a really good

:08:20.:08:22.

run in the cup this season. They would have thought with that

:08:23.:08:26.

competition, that draw would have worked for them really well. There

:08:27.:08:30.

have been other bad days as well. Airdrie is one which was painful.

:08:31.:08:36.

Plastic pitch, I can give you a lot of excuses, he will be suffering.

:08:37.:08:42.

Well, Dumfries was the venue, Stephen Thompson's St Mirren hit the

:08:43.:08:45.

cup trail away to Queen of the South. As with all 13 cup matches

:08:46.:08:50.

today, there was a minute's silence in respect of the victims of last

:08:51.:08:52.

night's helicopter crash in Glasgow. So to the first of our feature

:08:53.:09:29.

matches this evening. Queen of the South versus St Mirren. Paul

:09:30.:09:31.

Mitchell was watching for us. Queen of the South's first ever

:09:32.:09:42.

match was in 1919 in the Scottish qualifying cup. Since then, the

:09:43.:09:48.

attempts to lift the Scottish Cup they've never encountered St Mirren.

:09:49.:09:52.

So a little bit of history is made today. They have already sparred in

:09:53.:10:02.

the League Cup. Neither side won in the respective league matches last

:10:03.:10:07.

weekend. Queen of the South losing to Raith Rovers.

:10:08.:10:17.

Queen of the South against St Mirren sounds like a chivalrous affair, but

:10:18.:10:38.

in a setting which was made for cup football, this may be anything but.

:10:39.:10:43.

St Mirren beaten here in the League Cup.

:10:44.:11:06.

Thompson unleashes a verbal volley saying that was way too high.

:11:07.:11:14.

The pass was a good one. Acres of space. He overcooked that.

:11:15.:11:27.

Well it came off his arm. The referee looked to the assistant.

:11:28.:11:38.

It seemed to come off the arm of McCausland.

:11:39.:12:07.

Deflected and in. He kicked it down beautifully. He's

:12:08.:12:31.

in a man in good goal-scoring form. The opening goal comes inside nine

:12:32.:12:33.

minutes for the Premiership side. Great technique, it may have taken a

:12:34.:12:45.

slight nick on the way through. Wonderful skill from Newton. St

:12:46.:12:53.

Mirren take the league. There was nothing that Clark could do.

:12:54.:12:58.

That sun is coming right into the eyes of our cameramen and the

:12:59.:13:01.

commentary box. He scored once this season in the

:13:02.:13:25.

Challenge Cup. Plenty of zip and zing.

:13:26.:13:35.

Good save by Kello. It's a flying save from the keeper.

:13:36.:13:41.

A really good hit from Paton. Kello has been dependable since he

:13:42.:14:15.

arrived. Russell went down. He's never short

:14:16.:14:36.

of a quote or two Russell. Just a word with the fullback.

:14:37.:14:44.

A teasing ball in. It breaks back to Russell, off the post and in!

:14:45.:15:01.

Equaliser comes for Russell. The pressure from Queen of the South

:15:02.:15:08.

pays dividends. Kello came and didn't damager as he

:15:09.:15:12.

wished. -- gather as he wished. Just as in

:15:13.:15:15.

the League Cup tie, they fall behind and get back on level terms. The

:15:16.:15:20.

punch was dreadful. It came off McGreggor in the end.

:15:21.:15:22.

There's no doubt this is Russell's -- Russell's goal. Credit Ian

:15:23.:15:32.

Russell, clever finish. That will be the last action of a

:15:33.:16:03.

breath taking first half. Newton with the opening goal inside

:16:04.:16:09.

nine minutes, kept it down really well giving Clark no chance. Russell

:16:10.:16:14.

with the equal aisleser on 34 -- equaliser on 34 minutes.

:16:15.:16:21.

Mr Blunt and his two sons, he's 90 years old, he never misses a game.

:16:22.:16:29.

They'll be enjoying this cup tie too.

:16:30.:16:41.

St Mirren have lost only three of the last 12 away ties.

:16:42.:16:47.

This is the first-team coach and a media pundit for BBC Radio Scotland.

:16:48.:16:54.

That's where he is working. St Mirren get the first corner of

:16:55.:17:12.

the second half. What a save by Clark! McAusland

:17:13.:17:31.

looked to get the final touch. It flashed across Thompson. The push

:17:32.:17:37.

away by the goalkeeper. It's turn add way by Jason Naismith.

:17:38.:17:40.

-- turned away by Steven Naismith. The referee doesn't like the

:17:41.:17:57.

challenge. It will be a free kick.

:17:58.:18:06.

Oh, it was a good one. Just wide. Goodwin looking for his first goal

:18:07.:18:25.

of the season. Er Thompson! Great move down the

:18:26.:18:56.

left side. Thompson tucks it home. Wonderful football from St Mirren.

:18:57.:19:00.

Lovely little ball. Watch the run of Kelly. He was picked out by Riley.

:19:01.:19:07.

That's on the money. Thompson steered it into the net.

:19:08.:19:10.

Clark had no chance. McKenna got in there and caught him.

:19:11.:19:24.

The home fans don't like -- don't like the call.

:19:25.:19:43.

That's a tricky ball in. The offside flag is up. McGreggor pushes it

:19:44.:19:53.

square. A great ball in from McLean,

:19:54.:19:56.

teasing. A chance - goal Paton! What an

:19:57.:20:29.

equaliser for Queen of the South. It's 2-2.

:20:30.:20:36.

Beautifully crafted goal. McShane at the heart. McShane played it wide. A

:20:37.:20:46.

great ball across, the dink of a header and Paton with a wonderful

:20:47.:20:54.

finish. Lyle supplying the cross. Still a lot of work to do, Michael

:20:55.:20:58.

Paton. He didn't want to hit the goalkeeper and opened it up with the

:20:59.:21:04.

left foot. What a cup tie. He's supposed to be on radio

:21:05.:21:07.

Scotland at the moment, the first-team coach. That's his seat.

:21:08.:21:15.

Quality broadcasting there. He ran all the way down from the

:21:16.:21:19.

stand for the celebration. Storm clouds gathering off the

:21:20.:21:22.

field. It's pretty stormy on it too. He wanted it for himself. It was a

:21:23.:21:36.

difficult one. He would have to hook the right foot round. In behind the

:21:37.:21:39.

defender. Kello came a wandering. Back to Paton. He looks to the

:21:40.:22:16.

heavens. You know why. Great move again. The back heel from Paton

:22:17.:22:18.

rather spoiling it. The first ever Scottish Cup meeting

:22:19.:22:31.

between Queen of the South and St Mirren ends two apiece. What a cup

:22:32.:22:40.

tie it was. One apiece at halftime. Thompson getting St Mirren five

:22:41.:22:46.

minutes into the second half, but it was Paton who equalised, very calm

:22:47.:22:52.

finish, left-footed, lifting it past the goalkeeper. It was a Scottish

:22:53.:22:55.

Cup tie that was played at a ferocious pace. It never let up.

:22:56.:22:59.

Great match. They'll do it all over again at St Mirren Park.

:23:00.:23:07.

It was a traditional cup tie. Both teams had a real go at it. There was

:23:08.:23:13.

some quality play from our side today. I think the early goal

:23:14.:23:18.

against us has rocked us a bit. It took 20 minutes to get back into the

:23:19.:23:21.

game. After that, we started to make a few passes and really had a go at

:23:22.:23:25.

St Mirren. I thought it was a classic cup game. We knew that

:23:26.:23:29.

Queens would bring a lot of energy and fling everything that they had

:23:30.:23:34.

at us. They've got some good quality within that. You know, it was a game

:23:35.:23:38.

that was very much in the balance. It could have went either way. At

:23:39.:23:41.

the end of the day, it's about putting the ball in the back of the

:23:42.:23:44.

net. I'm very proud of our players and the way we come back twice. It

:23:45.:23:49.

shows great character. We found the surface a little bit more difficult

:23:50.:23:52.

than what we would like. We had to adapt to that slightly. So, we're

:23:53.:23:57.

delighted to still be in the draw. We'll look forward to the game a

:23:58.:24:02.

week on Tuesday. It's a tough place to go, you know

:24:03.:24:06.

that, you were there in the League Cup and Queen of the South beat St

:24:07.:24:10.

Mirren, but a good start from your side today. Newton got you off to a

:24:11.:24:14.

good start. Yeah, we started the game very well. On both occasions we

:24:15.:24:21.

took the lead within the match, we started to lose possession and

:24:22.:24:27.

retreat a bit and allow Queen of the South to come into the match. I

:24:28.:24:35.

think this takes a deflection. But it's good technique and a good goal

:24:36.:24:41.

and a good start. Queen of the south came more into the match and Kello,

:24:42.:24:47.

how much was he at fault in terms of the equaliser, would you say? I'll

:24:48.:24:53.

let Pat talk about that. If you're going to come that far, you either

:24:54.:24:58.

catch it or hit it a distance. He does neither there. He'll know

:24:59.:24:59.

himself, that's poor goal keeping. himself, that's poor goalkeeping.

:25:00.:25:04.

keeping. ' outstanding. By the way, he had a great game today. He will

:25:05.:25:08.

be disappointed with that. He's not made any mistakes other than that.

:25:09.:25:14.

Aip great moment for Ian ruffle there. -- Russell there. In the

:25:15.:25:17.

second half, the same story as the first. Yourself, a great run of

:25:18.:25:27.

form. Watch his movement here in the middle. Front, back, that's not in

:25:28.:25:36.

front of the goal. It's magnificent. It's Van Persie movement. It was a

:25:37.:25:46.

great move down the left side. I give Kelly a lot of cred I. It was a

:25:47.:25:56.

wonderful -- credit. The tache looking resplendent as always. Then

:25:57.:26:00.

Queen of the south back in it. Paton with the goal. St Mirren defending,

:26:01.:26:06.

could it have been better? Yeah, I think it could have been better.

:26:07.:26:09.

There's decent movement here. Two centre backs are looking around. He

:26:10.:26:17.

finds himself in the middle and it's put away really well. Superb goal. A

:26:18.:26:21.

composed finish. We need to do better than that defensively. I

:26:22.:26:27.

don't know if Steven would feel comfortable saying it, I would have

:26:28.:26:31.

felt sorry for them had they no the get back into the game. They played

:26:32.:26:35.

really well. St Mirren had great chances and didn't score. What was

:26:36.:26:40.

the mood in the dressing room after that? We were sfointed, probably

:26:41.:26:46.

more -- disappointed. Probably more with the performance. You have to

:26:47.:26:50.

give credit to Queen of the South. They were excellent today. At the

:26:51.:26:54.

end of the day, we're still in the cup. It's a plastic pitch these

:26:55.:26:57.

days. It was laid in the summer. How did you find it to play on? I don't

:26:58.:27:02.

want to make excuses about the pitch. It's difficult. It's

:27:03.:27:06.

different is what it is. The ball doesn't move the same. You would

:27:07.:27:13.

have hated it. You can't make excuses, both teams are on the

:27:14.:27:16.

pitch. We'll take them back to our place on grass. Let's move on, time

:27:17.:27:23.

for a butchers at this: After his protracted move from Inverness to

:27:24.:27:28.

Hibs, it was back up north for Terry Butcher as they travelled north to

:27:29.:27:30.

face his old rivals Ross County. Good target-man play from Collins

:27:31.:28:49.

this. Using his strength to hold the ball up for Cairney.

:28:50.:28:58.

James Collins with a free header in front of goal. The attempt from

:28:59.:29:06.

Cairney well off target. This was an opportunity for Collins.

:29:07.:29:30.

Good play from Carey. He forces the corner.

:29:31.:29:56.

The ball is in the net but the goal will not count.

:29:57.:30:10.

The whistle had gone before the ball first passed. Butcher trying to

:30:11.:30:13.

summon more from his team. A good ball in for Collins. Good

:30:14.:30:50.

challenge Brian McLean. Danny Handling! It's a breakthrough

:30:51.:30:52.

for Hibs. It's his first goal of the season.

:30:53.:31:05.

It's only Hibs 'second goal in nine games. That deserves a celebration.

:31:06.:31:15.

The teenager, on the mark, Ross County dealt with the initial

:31:16.:31:21.

threat. This was a lovely pass from Craig. Handling found some room. He

:31:22.:31:27.

made the most of it with the side-foot finish. It goes past Mark

:31:28.:31:32.

Brown. It's 1-0. Not the happiest of first halves for

:31:33.:31:38.

the Ross County manager. A freak kick goes against Cairney.

:31:39.:32:08.

And there's a reaction. A yellow card for the Hibs' midfielder.

:32:09.:32:14.

Thompson saw that as time wasting tactics from Cairney.

:32:15.:32:26.

Hibs Hibs fans in good -- Hibs fans in good voice.

:32:27.:32:35.

Robertson's shot is a disappointment for him having been gifted the

:32:36.:32:44.

opportunity. Brittain switched off for a moment there. County can't

:32:45.:32:48.

afford to do that. Another Hibs goal and it might be game over.

:32:49.:32:57.

The shot is deflected wide of target. Ross County try to turn up

:32:58.:33:06.

the heat. A flashing header from Luckassen.

:33:07.:33:33.

Really good delivery from Carey. And it cannons off the outside of the

:33:34.:33:35.

upright. Good play from Collins. Typical of

:33:36.:33:58.

his persistence and his enoosity -- tenacity and he was hopefully

:33:59.:34:01.

looking towards the referee there, as he collided with McLean. It's a

:34:02.:34:09.

fragile advantage. Great run Cairney. Down he goes.

:34:10.:34:25.

It's going to be a yellow card for Cairney. It's his second and he is

:34:26.:34:26.

off. Hibs a goal up, but now a man down.

:34:27.:34:39.

It's a big decision, this. It's gone against Terry Butcher's team.

:34:40.:34:46.

Thompson was decisive here as Brown came out and he reckons Cairney was

:34:47.:34:58.

on his way down. It's worth a close look, was there contact, should that

:34:59.:35:02.

have been a penalty. The referee thought not. Paul Cairney is off.

:35:03.:35:18.

Williams had it and lost it. He grabbed it at the second attempt.

:35:19.:35:28.

Saunders was closing in, hoping to pick up the pieces. It came back to

:35:29.:35:32.

him off Saunders. Down goes Maatsen in the box.

:35:33.:35:54.

Thompson has had a penalty claim at one end and then this at the other.

:35:55.:36:02.

There was a push from McGive earn. -- McGivern. Was it enough to send

:36:03.:36:05.

him to earth? Saunders has pulled up with an

:36:06.:36:19.

injury. James Collins for Hibs. This could tie things up. But it's

:36:20.:36:21.

deflected over the top. That could so easily have gone in.

:36:22.:36:34.

Hibs suddenly there found themselves with a big opportunity.

:36:35.:36:40.

Such an important challenge this, from Boyd. The goal scorer off.

:36:41.:37:03.

Hibs make another change. Terry Butcher supervising operations. He's

:37:04.:37:38.

making sure this happens as slowly as possible.

:37:39.:37:47.

The substitute is substituted. Caldwell is not happy. There's a

:37:48.:37:51.

tug-of-war with Terry Butcher. There will be something to be said about

:37:52.:37:57.

that, somewhere down-the-line. The fulltime whistle has gone. Hibs

:37:58.:38:05.

have their first ever win against Ross County. It's Terry Butcher's

:38:06.:38:16.

first win as Hibs manager. And they are through to the last 16 of the

:38:17.:38:25.

Scottish Cup. Ross County 0, Hibs 1. In my opinion it wasn't a yellow

:38:26.:38:30.

card. There's contact between Mark Brown and Paul Cairney, there's a

:38:31.:38:33.

mark down his shin, where the contact was made. There's two

:38:34.:38:36.

things, it's a goal kick or it's a penalty. But not a yellow card. It

:38:37.:38:41.

doesn't war ant a yellow card. Your first goal of the season and you

:38:42.:38:44.

took it well. Yeah, I didn't expect that. I thought it was offside. I

:38:45.:38:52.

saw the linesman running back to the half-way line. I thought we were

:38:53.:38:59.

very poor today. I didn't think it was a cup game I've seen at Victoria

:39:00.:39:06.

Park. I can't have too many complaints about the score even

:39:07.:39:12.

though chances were at a premium. Caldwell you took him off near the

:39:13.:39:15.

end and he wasn't happy. He wasn't happy. There were a few words

:39:16.:39:18.

exchanged in the dressing room, but he's a good player. We like him. I

:39:19.:39:23.

like him a lot. He just ran about and probably couldn't get his second

:39:24.:39:27.

wind. We thought we would make a substitutions. Collins was growing

:39:28.:39:30.

in confidence all the time and looked fit and strong. We thought we

:39:31.:39:33.

had to get somebody on the right side of midfield because they were

:39:34.:39:37.

putting in a lot of crosses. Tom was set to go on. It's disappointing

:39:38.:39:41.

when that happens. But we'll address it internally and move on. Ross is a

:39:42.:39:45.

key player for us and one that we like.

:39:46.:39:48.

Plenty of talking points, juicy ones from that one, Pat. Let's start with

:39:49.:39:53.

Ross Caldwell. What did you make of that? You feel sympathy for for kid.

:39:54.:39:58.

He's come on and wants to do his best. I think the reason he's taken

:39:59.:40:03.

him off because he's disrupting the play, stopping it. It could have

:40:04.:40:07.

been anyone at all. Have been someone else? Possibly so. If you

:40:08.:40:11.

take someone off just to be kind to Ross and that costs you a goal in

:40:12.:40:14.

the last seconds, you made the wrong decision. So Terry will do whatever

:40:15.:40:17.

he has to do, painful though it may be to get the right result for the

:40:18.:40:22.

club. As a player, there's nothing more embarrassing. I wouldn't have

:40:23.:40:28.

liked to have been him in the changing room. Terry actually has to

:40:29.:40:30.

make sure that people understand how powerful a character he is. So

:40:31.:40:35.

they've gone in there and read the riot act, everyone will have seen it

:40:36.:40:39.

and then it's finished. He wail say afterwards, he's a major part of the

:40:40.:40:43.

squad. In a way it's worked for Terry. Was it a deliberate tactic

:40:44.:40:47.

then? I wouldn't say it was deliberate to wind him up, sometimes

:40:48.:40:51.

it happens with managers. If you get somebody in and it falls on your

:40:52.:40:54.

plate that you can have that argument to put across our strong

:40:55.:40:59.

you are, you don't look a gift horse in the mouth and that's what he's

:41:00.:41:02.

done. I think he's got great stuff out of that team. How will something

:41:03.:41:06.

like that affect the dressing room? It will be forgotten about. I think

:41:07.:41:09.

Terry made that point in the interview there. He will have had a

:41:10.:41:13.

word with the boy and it will all be forgotten about now. He's paid him a

:41:14.:41:17.

compliment as well. I think they'll sweep it under the carpet. The first

:41:18.:41:24.

win for Terry Butcher, something he couldn't manage as Inverness

:41:25.:41:29.

manager. Danny Handling with his first goal of the season. There were

:41:30.:41:33.

loads of crosses in this game. This is the play, tackle there, Craig

:41:34.:41:40.

hags the captain's -- has the captain's arm band on. That's a

:41:41.:41:44.

beautiful striker's finish. The tackling high up the pitch, they've

:41:45.:41:48.

not been doing that this season. They were the same against up. High

:41:49.:41:52.

press, aggressive, but it was a wonderful first touch from Handling.

:41:53.:41:57.

A composed finish. He's been rejuvenated under Butcher as well.

:41:58.:42:03.

Ross County has been decidedly patchy at the start of the season,

:42:04.:42:10.

so far, from them. They came back into this. Luckassen had a good

:42:11.:42:14.

chance. Yeah, most of their best stuff came when Hibs were down to

:42:15.:42:18.

ten men. They're unlucky here. Hibs deserved the luck. If it's not going

:42:19.:42:25.

well for you, the team aren't playing well, and they doesn't

:42:26.:42:28.

deserve to win the game, but sometimes you can get that. In that

:42:29.:42:33.

case he was unlucky. It was a great header. Great ball. Brilliant ball.

:42:34.:42:39.

Plenty of time this season for things to go right for Ross County.

:42:40.:42:45.

Major talking point, Paul Cairney's sending off. This is the first

:42:46.:42:48.

booking. Yeah, I felt it was a wee bit unlucky here. When he picks the

:42:49.:42:53.

ball up. He takes three steps. It's not as if he's flung the ball away.

:42:54.:42:59.

There's nothing too personal there. If anything the other player reacts

:43:00.:43:03.

badly. And he didn't react to that. This is the big one. My first view,

:43:04.:43:10.

first of all, the most important thing, the referee makes a decision

:43:11.:43:14.

and he is in an absolutely fabulous position. Well done referee for

:43:15.:43:18.

getting into a good position. Great skill, running at a good angle,

:43:19.:43:23.

referee, perfect line, can't do any better, my second thought it that's

:43:24.:43:27.

a penalty. Watch it from here and I think, the keeper gets a bit... A

:43:28.:43:33.

touch. His legs are taken away from him. I don't think it's a dive. I

:43:34.:43:36.

just think he's falling. Never a dive. I didn't see him diving. He

:43:37.:43:44.

was going down, not diving. He's running out of legs. He's running

:43:45.:43:49.

out of legs? He's falling as he's going towards the keeper and the

:43:50.:43:52.

keeper has finished him off. Its not a dive. It was a very harsh yellow

:43:53.:43:56.

card. The goalkeeper gets a touch on the ball. It's in the -- in the a

:43:57.:44:01.

penalty either. A good start for Hibs under Terry Butcher. A draw

:44:02.:44:07.

against St Mirren last weekend. It's kind the start he would have needed

:44:08.:44:14.

at Hibs. It is a big job. It's a big result for them. To they have a

:44:15.:44:19.

couple of big games coming up. He's not going to turn it overnight. It's

:44:20.:44:24.

a job that takes time. He's a very good motivator. He's got the players

:44:25.:44:28.

motivated. We have saw that TVed with the energy they showed. You

:44:29.:44:36.

mentioned the energy, we saw them against Partick Thistle. We saw them

:44:37.:44:41.

against Inverness, they looked tired. I watched them in that game,

:44:42.:44:44.

I'm not saying he's made them ultra-fit over a couple of weeks,

:44:45.:44:48.

but there is improvement in attitude throughout the team and particularly

:44:49.:44:52.

the centre forward. Hibs through to the last 16. Plenty more football to

:44:53.:44:59.

come tonight. And tomorrow from Sportsscene, we bring you live

:45:00.:45:11.

scorage of the tie of the round: Then more highlights:

:45:12.:45:21.

Time for the first of our round ups and a chance to see what happens to

:45:22.:45:26.

the other Premiership clubs who played today and last night in. --

:45:27.:45:39.

last night. Inverness Cally Thistle might have been expected to see off

:45:40.:45:43.

championship truggers Morton easily. It took them until halftime to go in

:45:44.:45:49.

front. Reid penalised for this challenge on Draper. Ross doing the

:45:50.:45:54.

business with the penalty. A power cut after half -- at halftime meant

:45:55.:46:01.

a lengthy delay. Mackay put the lights out on Morton's chances of a

:46:02.:46:10.

cup shock. The Northern Irishman headed his first of the afternoon.

:46:11.:46:19.

As fulltime beckoned, Cally Thistle and Mackay struck again. Doran the

:46:20.:46:23.

supplier for Mackay's 13th goal of the season.

:46:24.:46:32.

There was still time for another, though. Agdestein was brought down

:46:33.:46:39.

by Taggart. That meant a straight red card for the Morton player. And

:46:40.:46:48.

a chance for Doran to make it four. Which he duly took. The lack of a

:46:49.:46:55.

manager not riveting Cally Thistle's mark into the last 16. ?? The future

:46:56.:47:03.

of striker Stevie May has been the subject of much speculation. The

:47:04.:47:07.

21-year-old continued his excellent run of form. A clinical finish from

:47:08.:47:14.

just outside the 18-yard box, his 12th goal of the season.

:47:15.:47:21.

The ball was bundled over the line at close range to send St Johnstone

:47:22.:47:25.

through to the last 16. Dundee United's young guns have been

:47:26.:47:38.

earning plenty of praise in recent weeks. It was no surprise when one

:47:39.:47:42.

of their brightest talents opened the scoring with a neat finish at

:47:43.:47:49.

the end of a nice move. Kilmarnock were rather gifted an

:47:50.:47:54.

equaliser. Only a couple of minutes later,

:47:55.:48:06.

Chris Johnston put them in front with this wonderful goal.

:48:07.:48:14.

The visitors wanted the game stopped for this injury to Gabriel.

:48:15.:48:23.

United didn't oblige, though. Instead they broke forward. He did

:48:24.:48:33.

well to get to the by-line before finding arm strong, who found the

:48:34.:48:40.

back of the net. Robertson may be a fullback, but he

:48:41.:48:45.

took his goal tally to four in three games, albeit with a bit of help

:48:46.:48:49.

from some questionable goalkeepering. United had their

:48:50.:48:58.

tails up by this stage. When Ryan Gold was fouled in the box by

:48:59.:49:06.

Gabriel, Graham was able to put the result beyond doubt from the spot.

:49:07.:49:14.

If that wasn't bad enough forical mash onning, more -- for Kilmarnock

:49:15.:49:21.

more sloppy defending made the victory even more emphatic.

:49:22.:49:27.

Dundee United doing more than passable impression there of Arsenal

:49:28.:49:33.

probably in those highlights with that strip on. Pat, every week we

:49:34.:49:39.

rave about Dundee United, that's nine goals in their last two games.

:49:40.:49:43.

Are we in danger of over hyping them or is it just a sheer amount of

:49:44.:49:48.

talent that's there at the moment? For a little while now they've been

:49:49.:49:52.

producing very good, talented young players. They keep coming through. I

:49:53.:49:56.

don't think it's over hype, when they're playing that well, scoring

:49:57.:49:58.

that many goals, they're not losing a lot of goals generally either,

:49:59.:50:02.

though they lost two against Kilmarnock there. Robertson is good

:50:03.:50:08.

enough. Armstrong, Stephen. In Gold there's something special. Fully

:50:09.:50:11.

paid up member of the fan club already. I met him there week, a

:50:12.:50:15.

very level headed young man, super talented, obviously. It's going to

:50:16.:50:20.

be tough for Dundee United to hold onto these guys. It is, but they

:50:21.:50:26.

have to stay and get games under their belt. Ryan is exceptional.

:50:27.:50:31.

He's been involved in seven of the nine goals that Dundee United have

:50:32.:50:34.

scored. He's pivotal to them at the minute. He's so creative,

:50:35.:50:37.

imaginative. He's a wonderful wee player. St Mirren play Dundee United

:50:38.:50:42.

on Boxing Day. Is that a date you're dreading? No, I don't think so. We

:50:43.:50:49.

lost badly to Dundee United 4-0 earlier in the season. We want to

:50:50.:50:52.

make amends for that. Normally, it would be a cup shock if a team from

:50:53.:50:56.

League One dumped out a championship side, not quite the case when that

:50:57.:51:00.

League One side is Rangers. They were visitors in the lunch time

:51:01.:51:02.

quickoff away to Falkirk. The last time they met in the

:51:03.:51:09.

Scottish Cup was only four-and-a-half years ago, but those

:51:10.:51:12.

were very different days. Then Rangers were the Premier League

:51:13.:51:19.

champions against a Falkirk side in equally buoyant mood having dodged

:51:20.:51:22.

the drop. How times have changed from that sunny May Day in 2009.

:51:23.:51:29.

The Falkirk boss won the Scottish Cup in 1997.

:51:30.:52:08.

The referee has been a category one official in 2008.

:52:09.:52:18.

Rangers are fourth favourites to win this competition behind only Celtic,

:52:19.:52:22.

Motherwell and Aberdeen. Including replays the 19th Scottish

:52:23.:52:31.

Cup meeting between the teams. Falkirk's last success over Rangers

:52:32.:52:35.

in the competition was also in the fourth round, but it was 1927.

:52:36.:53:15.

He was in the Hearts team that thumped Hibernian 5-1, a couple of

:53:16.:53:21.

seasons ago, Black. The keeper is trying to grasp the

:53:22.:54:03.

ball. I think he's got it eventually.

:54:04.:54:08.

That's Alex Smith, who won the Scottish Cup as manager of St Mirren

:54:09.:54:30.

and a few years later, as manager of Aberdeen.

:54:31.:54:39.

Clark is through. This is a big call for the referee. Now, was this

:54:40.:55:33.

inside the box? I think the referee thinks it was out. But it is a red

:55:34.:55:38.

card for Falkirk. Clark was bearing down on goal.

:55:39.:55:47.

Falkirk go to protest to the referee about the decision. It's against

:55:48.:55:54.

Stephen McCracken. The infringement was right on the 18-yard line. Clark

:55:55.:56:03.

got there first. It's been a tight, frustrating affair for most out on

:56:04.:56:04.

the pitch today. The biggest moment of the game so

:56:05.:56:23.

far, McGovern saves it. Oh, it's into the net. But the flag is up on

:56:24.:56:34.

the near side. A chance missed for McCulloch. Falkirk out of jail. But

:56:35.:56:35.

they are down to ten men. Double change coming up for Rangers

:56:36.:56:52.

in a moment. Sibbald getting in the way of the

:56:53.:57:27.

cross. While they await Sibbald to recover from his obvious distress,

:57:28.:57:31.

Rangers thought about making the changes. Peralta is going to be

:57:32.:57:44.

replaced. Templeton replaces Nicki Clark.

:57:45.:57:57.

It's been blasted off the bar. Rangers hang their heads in their

:57:58.:58:03.

hands. They're beginning to seize control

:58:04.:58:08.

of this game. Rangers have already had a Scottish

:58:09.:58:20.

Cup tie this season, against Airdrie in the last round.

:58:21.:58:26.

That was a heart in mouth moment for Rangers. Now they will make Falkirk

:58:27.:58:31.

suffer up the other end. Is It's just a goal kick.

:58:32.:58:48.

Good little spell for the neutral to watch here. Bell came out to meet

:58:49.:58:58.

Loy. They don't have you for the for -- support for Loy now.

:58:59.:59:12.

Falkirk haven't strung more than two or three passes together in this

:59:13.:59:17.

period of the game. Rangers search for the winner.

:59:18.:59:25.

Heading towards the final minute. Nicky Law puts Rangers, surely, into

:59:26.:59:39.

the fifth round of the Scottish Cup. They have knocked and knocked and

:59:40.:59:43.

knocked at the Falkirk door in the second half. Eventually, they have

:59:44.:59:51.

broken down Gary Holt's ten men. Law surely puts Rangers into Monday's

:59:52.:00:00.

draw. It's forced back to Law. The former Motherwell man fires home

:00:01.:00:03.

what is his fourth goal of the season. It looks like being the

:00:04.:00:10.

decisive goal in this Fourth Round tie. Nothing the keeper could do

:00:11.:00:14.

that time. Rangers have applied some gloss to

:00:15.:00:31.

the scoreline. They're definitely through now. Templeton, in

:00:32.:00:39.

second-half stoppage time ensures that Rangers are going into the next

:00:40.:00:43.

stage. Templeton with the header out to

:00:44.:00:52.

MacLeod, the Rangers sub continued his run. It's a more comfortable

:00:53.:00:59.

scoreline now against the ten men. The missed penalty very much out of

:01:00.:01:03.

their minds. The fifth round very much in their minds.

:01:04.:01:06.

You must be gutted about what happened in the last couple of

:01:07.:01:13.

minutes. This competition seems to throw up quite a tough feeling at

:01:14.:01:19.

the end of the games. They were excellent. Most of our boys are

:01:20.:01:22.

still teenagers, to put the effort in they did, especially when down to

:01:23.:01:28.

ten men was enm nal. Just hoping can -- phenomenal. Just hoping can they

:01:29.:01:32.

go over the line or get the replay, about Taufiq wasn't to be. -- but it

:01:33.:01:40.

wasn't to go. -- to be. Was that a penalty? I think the first contact

:01:41.:01:45.

is outside the box. I would argue that it probably has to be a sending

:01:46.:01:49.

off. It's a soft one. It's harsh, I think. It is harsh. There's a little

:01:50.:01:56.

clip on the foot as well. It starts outside the box. I don't think the

:01:57.:02:01.

clip is intentional. He goes down quite theeate Rickally. -- Theeate

:02:02.:02:12.

Rickally. -- theatrically. You should also book him as well. If

:02:13.:02:15.

you're a forward and you get in front of a centre back, you go right

:02:16.:02:20.

away, you think get in my way, I've got the right of way. It's your own

:02:21.:02:25.

fault if there's a tangle of legs. In a way I this think the referee

:02:26.:02:29.

was left with no decision to make, he had to give a sending off. I

:02:30.:02:35.

thought it was quite harsh. I don't think he meant to clip his ankle.

:02:36.:02:41.

The pull back is not enough for me to warrant a penalty. I can see both

:02:42.:02:47.

sides. What do we make of the penalty itself? Good save? It's

:02:48.:02:51.

funny, he doesn't usually take them like this. He rans at an odd -- runs

:02:52.:02:58.

at an odd angle. He comes from the side. Is he doesn't get the power

:02:59.:03:03.

in. It it's unusual for the big man to do that. The keeper guesses the

:03:04.:03:10.

right way. A wee bit lucky, maybe the big man is still offside there.

:03:11.:03:14.

In the end it made no big big difference. Credit should the keeper

:03:15.:03:19.

get there? It's a good stop. But possibly it's just a poor penalty. I

:03:20.:03:23.

don't think he will be pleased with the penalty. Credit to Falkirk

:03:24.:03:29.

marking a -- making a game of it, down to ten men. And credit to

:03:30.:03:33.

Rangers going to the last minute, keeping going and Law comes up

:03:34.:03:42.

crumbs. -- trumps. Yes, they just ran out of players there. Rangers

:03:43.:03:45.

put a lot of players in there. They are good from set pieces. The thing

:03:46.:03:50.

you have to remember, they're scoring a hell of a lot of goals. I

:03:51.:03:56.

think the 66th goal this season. Agonising there for Gary as well.

:03:57.:04:01.

Yeah, they played well. They defended well. But the pivotal

:04:02.:04:08.

moments, when Rangers are pressing in the last ten minutes and it's

:04:09.:04:12.

difficult to defend against that. They'll be disappointed to have lost

:04:13.:04:20.

the first goal from a set piece. Came on and he gets the second goal.

:04:21.:04:24.

He actually goes and shouts for the ball. He tells exactly where he

:04:25.:04:28.

wants the ball to be placed. Nice little header. Watch him in the

:04:29.:04:31.

middle, give me it there, I know what I'm doing. He's not even

:04:32.:04:35.

reached the 18-yard line and he knows what he's going to do. That

:04:36.:04:40.

shows me a player that's a really good piece of vision. It was

:04:41.:04:46.

incredibly harsh on Falkirk. He's put that team out there, who

:04:47.:04:49.

probably until the sending off, deserved at least a draw. That

:04:50.:04:53.

performance and result, how much do we gauge as to where Rangers are?

:04:54.:04:57.

They've brought in a lot of players in the SPL last season. They're in

:04:58.:05:01.

League One. Where are Rangers now? It's difficult to gauge them on one

:05:02.:05:05.

performance just now. I think with the squad that they've got, with the

:05:06.:05:08.

players they've got, they're camable of playing in the smp -- capable of

:05:09.:05:13.

playing in the SPL. Now the seven remaining matches played this

:05:14.:05:14.

afternoon. As bizarre cup goals go, Raith

:05:15.:05:27.

Rovers' is up there. Thompson's run was eventually halted on the edge of

:05:28.:05:33.

the box. Irvine and his keeper weren't exactly on the same page

:05:34.:05:38.

here. Disbelieving glances were exchanged. Rovers rejoiced.

:05:39.:05:48.

Fraserburgh have done the league proud with their exploits. But

:05:49.:05:53.

Stenhousemuir proved one challenge too many.

:05:54.:06:01.

McNeil with a mis-hit shot that ended up in the corner of the goal.

:06:02.:06:07.

On target again with number two. A long, through ball from defence.

:06:08.:06:13.

Turning inside, this time with the left foot shot. The keeper may well

:06:14.:06:23.

feel he could have done better. Fraserburgh's Scottish Cup journey

:06:24.:06:26.

ended in the final minute of the game. A long through ball, Douglas

:06:27.:06:33.

this time on target. Stenhousemuir go through. Fraserburgh head back

:06:34.:06:34.

north with their heads held high. There's nothing like a cup derby for

:06:35.:06:45.

a bit of spice and temperatures were raised from the off.

:06:46.:06:51.

Malcom seeing red for this challenge just eight minutes in.

:06:52.:06:59.

But things were evened up when Moyes was sent off for denying Templeman a

:07:00.:07:14.

goal-scoring opportunity. The breakthrough came following good

:07:15.:07:19.

work down the right. The cross was turned into the net.

:07:20.:07:28.

The tie might have been over had this header been a few inches lower.

:07:29.:07:39.

As it was, the late deflected free kick earned a replay. Even the third

:07:40.:07:48.

red card of the game, this time for Mark Baxter couldn't dampen the joy.

:07:49.:07:57.

Stirling Albion were the first to strike in this local derby. Jordan

:07:58.:08:04.

White with his glancing header. He gave Albion the lead.

:08:05.:08:15.

18-year-old Sandy Cunningham seeing red from the referee. That was after

:08:16.:08:24.

a clash with Michael Doyle. Early on in the second half, Alloa

:08:25.:08:32.

were back on level terms. Tiffoney was brought down. No mistake from

:08:33.:08:45.

the spot. They took the lead on the hour mark.

:08:46.:08:50.

Again, Tiffoney with the cross from the right-hand side, this time,

:08:51.:08:59.

Graeme Holmes with the header. In stoppage time Alloa secured their

:09:00.:09:04.

place in the last 16, this time Marr scoring from close range.

:09:05.:09:09.

Consolation for Albion with almost a last kick of the game, a stunning

:09:10.:09:16.

25-yarder from the subs unite Graham Weir -- subs unite Graham Weir --

:09:17.:09:22.

substitute Graham Weir. The speculation is not just about me,

:09:23.:09:25.

other managers. I have a job to do here. I'm happy with what I'm doing.

:09:26.:09:33.

The home side dominated the first half, yet still found themselves a

:09:34.:09:40.

goal down at halftime thanks to this terrific Geggan strike.

:09:41.:09:47.

Ayr redressed the balance after the interval. Kyle winning the knock

:09:48.:09:52.

down and Donald's low drive ensuring the teams have to do it all again.

:09:53.:10:05.

The League Two side took the lead after just eight minutes. What a

:10:06.:10:13.

free kick it was as well. Former Hibernian midfielder Currie. They

:10:14.:10:18.

were on level terms after the hour mark. A across in from -- a cross in

:10:19.:10:25.

from the right side. The ball hit the arm of defender Tulloch. And

:10:26.:10:36.

Bryan Prunty scored from the spot. Prunty was provider for goal number

:10:37.:10:44.

two. This time Megginson with a terrific left-foot shot from the

:10:45.:10:53.

edge of the 18-yard box. Dumbarton edged through to the last

:10:54.:10:58.

16 for the first time in 29 years, this time, Linton on target. A

:10:59.:11:00.

comfortable win for Murray's side. The League Two leaders Clyde got off

:11:01.:11:13.

to an excellent start in this tie. They took the lead with McDonald's

:11:14.:11:19.

well placed header. Just before halftime, Brown got

:11:20.:11:22.

himself into trouble and was punished bier a cool finish from

:11:23.:11:34.

-- for Longworth. A minute's silence before the game kicked off and extra

:11:35.:11:41.

poignant for you. I tack a wee moment to reflect on last night to

:11:42.:11:45.

be honest. Obviously, once that was over and just thoughts go out to the

:11:46.:11:53.

friends and relatives and stuff. Butch a wee moment of silence, made

:11:54.:11:58.

me reflectment I suppose it does put things into perspective. It's only a

:11:59.:12:06.

game of football. Got through the 90 minutes. Got there. That really puts

:12:07.:12:11.

everything into perspective there. It sums up the Scottish Cup in a

:12:12.:12:17.

weird way as well. It's a very real Football Focus tournament -- real

:12:18.:12:21.

football tournament. You could see in his face how it has

:12:22.:12:28.

affected him. Very brave as a fireman, what he did last night and

:12:29.:12:31.

it's a hard weekend for everyone here and throughout Scotland.

:12:32.:12:34.

Everyone's pulled together. That's the positive thing. It's something

:12:35.:12:39.

we have to do all through society. We've managed to do that this time.

:12:40.:12:43.

Thoughts obviously in the right place. But the football goes on.

:12:44.:12:48.

Absolutely. Let's talk about the own goal as well. That was strange. What

:12:49.:12:59.

do you make of it? If you watch the keeper, I don't know who to blame,

:13:00.:13:04.

the keeper or the fullback. The keeper is not watching the play. I

:13:05.:13:09.

think the fullback has the time to play it himself. But the goalkeeper

:13:10.:13:15.

is not focussed there. The keeper thinks it's a penalty or sending

:13:16.:13:18.

off. He's shouting at the referee. He's made a mistake. He's at fault.

:13:19.:13:24.

Number two and it was the number two, pass the ball back, the oldest

:13:25.:13:29.

one in the book, you pass it outside the goal post. Number three,

:13:30.:13:33.

referee, well done, you let the play go on. Most to blame for you? I

:13:34.:13:39.

don't know after all that, the keeper. 25 minutes of November left

:13:40.:13:43.

to go. It's only appropriate that I give you this. Thank you very much.

:13:44.:13:52.

Will you miss it? The moustache? No, No, I won't. I won't miss it. It's

:13:53.:13:56.

coming off as soon as I get in the house. But we've raised money for

:13:57.:14:00.

the charity. I'm not sure if I'm happy to see the back of it or not.

:14:01.:14:04.

Four replays in about ten days' time. Let's look at them:

:14:05.:14:18.

And we're back tomorrow afternoon with live coverage of Hearts versus

:14:19.:14:26.

Celtic. Join us at 2. 45pm on BBC One. It's like Christmas came early

:14:27.:14:30.

for fans of Scottish football. The Scottish Cup Fourth Round, the

:14:31.:14:35.

lights went out at one stadium, and a whacky own goal and we do it all

:14:36.:14:39.

again with more highlights as with edrawn a line under the weekend's

:14:40.:14:45.

action. But for now, from all of us, good night.

:14:46.:14:50.
