UEFA European Championship Qualifier: Scotland v Czech Republic Sportscene

I think nervy and tense at the start of the game. Caldwell doesn't

usually do that sort of thing much we can usually depend on him. That

is part of the problem. There was nervousness and tension. As a

defender, if you make the mistake it could get your team eliminated

from the competition. Then came this moment. That is a penalty. I

think we showed this. We ain't biased. This should have been a

penalty against Scotland. He is really lucky there. He could have

been sent off. Certainly, a yellow card there. Over the top, nowhere

near the ball, gets the player. The referee was in the right position

referee was in the right position to get it wrong, once again. That

was the start of his day. He made a lot of mistakes. The start of a

shocking display from the referee he was five or six yards away?

Charlie got away with that because he stood on his feet. The fact he

comes away with the ball influences the referee's decision a little bit.

We were lucky to get away with it. We couldn't have dreamed a 1-0

Scotland lead at half time. Kenny Scotland lead at half time. Kenny

Miller did core score? We kept the ball really well. Really good.

Better controlled passing from Scotland. A break of the ball there.

Fletcher's work here is absolutely fantastic. This is a guy who hasn't

played for months. Take nothing away from conditiony Miller. You

have to get it on target. They worked well together this afternoon.

Did we ask enough questions of the Czech keeper? Not as much pace on

the ball as what he thought. He set himself there for a powerful shot.

Kenny didn't hit it as hard as he tried to there. He hit it into the

ground a little bit. It's on target. His foot is there too early. He

goes over the top of the ball. He will be disappointed he didn't keep

that out. Baros missed a sitter in the first half. He missed another

great chance early second half? Rosicky got into it. He is a good

player. Not too much wrong with the defending. Baros is in a good

position. This was possibly our best piece of play, certainly up

until this point game. Great movement. Get to the byeline. Kenny

Miller in front of the goal, that is a tough one. That is a tough one,

I think, to finish. He is under pressure to get that on target,

both from the goalkeeper and defender. A difficult chance.

Coming up 1-1, this was 78 minutes. Yeah, once again, Rosicky again. If

you are going to be harsh about it. We have plenty of players in the

box. There no-one is picking up. Everyone has come back and are

watching the ball. There is ball watching there. He get lucky as

well. The ball is clipped in there. It hit the player. He knows nothing

about that. Maybe we could have defended better. You get a player.

Pick up a body. There we didn't do that. That was harsh on Scotland

minutes left. You were disappointed, I know, in Scotland's inability at

The referee in a great position, but, for that position, it's an

absolute joke. It was called absolute joke. It was called

immediately on the commentary. What a shocker of a decision? Hard to

take when that has such a big influence on the game. The player

that goes down there has done well that goes down there has done well

for his team. It doesn't look great. He earned his team a point, which

could be crucial in the end. The gain of doing that is far out

weighed. Where is the assistant referee? Can he not help the

referee? Is he not doing something. I can see that that is a diver. The

fact that the referee and the assistant are the only people not

to see it. Maybe it's not their fault maybe they need more help

fault maybe they need more help again. Penalty given there, penalty

not given here. Yellow card for not given here. Yellow card for

Berra. There is contact on this one. It looks even, when the TV replays,

it look as penalty. You see the contact. Once there is contact

there, the player is entitled to go down and expect a decision tsm

looks, for all the world, a penalty. Was the referee grabbed there by

Berra's attempt to fling himself, the embellishment of hitting the

deck? Absolutely the case. From the referee's position that is a tough

one to call from the angle. If you see it from behind. That is a

penalty, we see it from here. The referee is here. That is a tougher

ange toll see. You don't give a penalty unless you are sure. He

wasn't sure. There the problem is, he was sure the other one was a

penalty. He got that wrong.Ening there was an arrogance from the

referee throughout the game. Fletcher was saying it to him at

the end, our skipper talks to him, ignores him, looks bast him. He is

too important to talk to one of the plau players, even the skipper.

That is arrogance. That is unacceptable to me. People say 2-2

that was a fair score in the way the game went. In reality it came

down to those two big penalty shouts right at the end. Yes, the

referee's decisions have cost referee's decisions have cost

Scotland the game? I can't remember Allan McGregor having too many

saves to get maybe the one on the lead up to our second goal.

Everybody will be talking about that for a long time to come. We

have to try and move on. We have to forget about it. Especially the

players. They have to focus on the game on Tuesday. Get the result

there that can push us towards getting up towards this play-off

place. Is it time for the kpr officials we see in European club

games to be brought on to the international scene as well, or the

Chief Executive of the FSA was saying, surely the case of

technology to clarify contentious decisions? I have been watching the

extra officials since they were used in the Europa League,

uselogicalless. It doesn't work. They more often than not get the

decisions wrong. Sometimes they make - they pull the referee across

and say something to him because they want to be on the telly. Not

impressed with that. Technology. The time for technology was five

years ago. That is how far behind they are. They are not helping the

referee. FIFA aren't helping the referees. They will never allow any

League to try it. With why not? They know it will work. They are

living in a dream over there. Not understanding that we need go

forward. They are living in the past. We will use the technology.

It may well that you have two or three opportunities in the game

where you call it. That is fine. We go-ahead from there. We look back

at this time as ridiculous. Ireland who suffered from a hand ball.

Scotland suffering there. Players team work for a lifetime to get to

a World Cup final or European Championships and do everything

right and knocked out because they buried their hands in the sand. I'm

quite annoyed about it. You made your point. Is it time to tick the

sensible box and use what is available it us as other sports do

as well? Most people loo like to see it come in. When do you use it.

There could be a foul. If the ball stays in place play the Czech

Republic score again to win the game 3-2. Do you bring it back,

cancel that goal and give Scotland the penalty. You do. Very do-able

this. You allow the play to carry on. If goes to the goal at the

other end, you call time on trk you have a look at it and go back to

the original decision. Kind of simple. Not complicated, I think.

Now the table. How are Scotland going to make it? We need to win

our next two games. If it goes to a shootout between the Czech Republic

and the final game, that is what we are looking for now, to try and

have a shoot out where we have to better or, at least, equal the

Czech Republic last result in the Group. It's a difficult task for us.

One we can still do. It's a possibility. Outside possibility

for me. There is a lot of positives to be taken from today. Scotland

are building toward the right direction. This may be a

Championship too early. We won't give up until it's impossible.

Tuesday night without Brown and Miller? That will be a big blow.

They played well today. We do have a growing squad that has come

through and has experience now. It's time for the guys to step up

off the bench from today and get a taste of the action. Step up and be

counted. A good chance for them to come in and see what they are made

of. Mission impossible? Yeah. As a player, you have to take it from a

players' point of view. You look at the game in front of you. If you

are a player and are Goodwillie, this is an opportunity for me, that

is what they will think about. That is our opportunity.we will take it.
