Welcome to Twickenham and a very big deal for women's rugby. In August,

:00:08.:00:13.

it is the World Cup in Ireland, but over the next couple of months it is

:00:14.:00:16.

all down to the European elite who will battle it out for the Six

:00:17.:00:18.

Nations championship. # They revolution will be televised.

:00:19.:00:59.

# We can watch it in HD. # Talk like a weekend warrior from

:01:00.:01:03.

the safety of your TV. # The graphics won't be as realistic

:01:04.:01:14.

as Grand Theft Auto 3. # I suppose you better change the

:01:15.:01:19.

channel. # Put the children of their tea.

:01:20.:01:24.

# The revolution will be televised! # Choose to watch or not.

:01:25.:01:30.

# But if we all stay on the safety of our sofas. Lloyds there won't be

:01:31.:01:37.

much of a revolution to be watched. We will have highlights of every

:01:38.:01:41.

round on BBC Two for what promises to be a fiercely competitive Women's

:01:42.:01:54.

Six Nations. Coming up, we'll see up Scotland kick off the tournament

:01:55.:01:59.

against Ireland, but first the holders France take on England, the

:02:00.:02:04.

Red Roses, at Twickenham. I am sure you know the points system was

:02:05.:02:07.

altered for the men's competition, and that is echoed in the women's

:02:08.:02:08.

competition too. Plenty of incentive to play the

:02:09.:02:32.

attacking rugby that we love to see. Let's get to the action, commentary

:02:33.:02:36.

for England versus France comes from World Cup winner Kat Murton and Sara

:02:37.:02:41.

Orchard. The reigning world champions are up

:02:42.:02:48.

against the reigning Six Nations champions. Let's take a look at

:02:49.:02:55.

England, the world champions, 994 caps with the coach giving Amber

:02:56.:02:58.

Reed the nod at inside centre. Jade Le Pesq, normally seen on the

:02:59.:03:19.

wing, is starting at scrum-half. Tamara Taylor winning her 99th cap,

:03:20.:03:34.

she gets the ball clearly away. -- cleanly. Amy Wilson Hardy proving a

:03:35.:03:41.

tricky customer for France to tackle. Oh, what a steal! They

:03:42.:03:47.

manage to pluck the ball out of the air, it is flying down this nearside

:03:48.:03:51.

wing, it is going to be an opening score here for France, Shannon Izar

:03:52.:03:59.

goes over, France have the first strike in this Six Nations clash.

:04:00.:04:04.

That has got to be heartbreak for England, playing so flat to the

:04:05.:04:09.

line. If she had got it in her hand, it could be the try the risk and

:04:10.:04:13.

reward has gone against them this time. The opportunity was there, and

:04:14.:04:19.

it was taken. Having had all that possession, England will have to

:04:20.:04:24.

rethink their tactics here. Le Pesq, Le Duff, moving forward. Oh, Harriet

:04:25.:04:35.

Millar-Mills was trying to get that away, will France take it quickly?

:04:36.:04:42.

It is a little tap off the foot by Furlan, the referee says no.

:04:43.:04:46.

Millar-Mills was desperate to get out of the way, she was in such a

:04:47.:04:55.

tight spot. France obviously looking to build, then. Oh! Well, you don't

:04:56.:05:02.

see that very often! And it is now France to have a clear 8-0 lead at

:05:03.:05:06.

the home of English rugby. Big shove goes in, England are going

:05:07.:05:19.

backwards, still moving backwards, this is wonderful from the French,

:05:20.:05:24.

there is the penalty. Pats on the back to all those French players,

:05:25.:05:27.

who will be enjoying their scrum time this evening. If I was the

:05:28.:05:32.

French captain now, I would be calling for a scrum, if they are

:05:33.:05:35.

dominating like that is - that has got to be the call. It looks like

:05:36.:05:40.

they might just go for the corner. A big moment, then, Mignot five metres

:05:41.:05:46.

out from the English line. It goes in long towards the back, taken

:05:47.:05:51.

cleanly. And here is a trademark move that we see a lot from the

:05:52.:05:55.

French, they are spinning it around, this one is moving. They are going

:05:56.:05:59.

to be going over the line. It is down, the try is given, number two

:06:00.:06:03.

for France, nothing England could do about it, and that is a score we

:06:04.:06:08.

have seen a number of times for the French at Twickenham, and it is that

:06:09.:06:14.

woman again. It is Gaelle Mignot, the French captain.

:06:15.:06:24.

It has gone loose at the back, and Katy McLean there, like a terrier,

:06:25.:06:31.

working down the centre of the park. Advantage to England as well. In

:06:32.:06:35.

from the side by the French. It looked like she was going to take it

:06:36.:06:40.

quickly, but right in the centre, almost straightaway Sarah Hunter is

:06:41.:06:45.

pointing at the posts. I think that is the right decision, whether

:06:46.:06:48.

England have numbers out wide or not, it is really important they get

:06:49.:06:57.

some points on the board. The Lichfield centre has got England

:06:58.:07:03.

moving now. They trailed by ten points here, but finally they are

:07:04.:07:06.

getting points ticking over in the right direction. Katy McLean, can

:07:07.:07:13.

she get numbers out to the far side? Emily Scarratt decides to go route

:07:14.:07:19.

one. The ball is just so slow for England, they cannot quite get it

:07:20.:07:25.

away. Back down the line, she gets over the line! England get their

:07:26.:07:29.

first try in this Six Nations clash. And that is why Waterman is a

:07:30.:07:36.

world-class finish. She just finds that line, and she will get there,

:07:37.:07:43.

what an incredible finish. Danielle Waterman, she has played in three

:07:44.:07:47.

World Cup finals, she has won a World Cup, she has been to the

:07:48.:07:51.

Olympic Games, and she still loves scoring tries. Emily Scarratt, then,

:07:52.:07:56.

lining up the conversion for England. And this, if she can get

:07:57.:08:02.

it, would put them within three points of the French. A little bit

:08:03.:08:08.

of a turn on it, that looks good, and it is, classy taking there from

:08:09.:08:13.

Emily Scarratt. And England are right back into this match. Hunt,

:08:14.:08:20.

Taylor, she is happy to keep it moving from the past. It was Burford

:08:21.:08:24.

involved in there. Advantage to England. And this penalty is within

:08:25.:08:32.

range. A lot of England hands pointing at the post, whether they

:08:33.:08:35.

are the captain or not, everybody is pointing at the post!

:08:36.:08:40.

Emily Scarratt, then, with a chance to level here for England, high into

:08:41.:08:47.

the air it goes, and we are level pegging. The ball comes back,

:08:48.:08:53.

Burford know has it, she is quickly sucked up by French players. She

:08:54.:08:58.

deals with it very well, nice to set up the platform here, Hunt. Nice

:08:59.:09:03.

take there by Scarratt under pressure, flying down the far side,

:09:04.:09:09.

still going forward, back inside, Le Pesq was there to take the last

:09:10.:09:12.

pass, the French had to take it out of play. They could not get the

:09:13.:09:16.

final pass away to Lydia Thompson, and it remains 13-13. At the moment,

:09:17.:09:22.

the French, they have scored two tries to England's one, but we are

:09:23.:09:26.

all even on the scoreboard with 14 minutes left to play. Penalty to

:09:27.:09:31.

England, and a big decision now, what they do with this ball. It has

:09:32.:09:37.

got to be, yes, Scarratt walks up to it. Will this be the kick for

:09:38.:09:41.

England to take the lead for the first time in his match against

:09:42.:09:44.

France? All the pressure on outside centre Emily Scarratt. The ball is

:09:45.:09:50.

flying, and it is flying good and true, and England take the lead,

:09:51.:09:54.

leading France 16-13 with 12 minutes left to play. Oh, that scrum has

:09:55.:10:02.

gone straight down to ground, the referee will let it play. No, then

:10:03.:10:07.

she blows the whistle. It is a penalty, and once again calm heads

:10:08.:10:14.

by England. As Emily Scarratt looks to extend the English lead by

:10:15.:10:17.

another three points, and she does. It is now England to lead here

:10:18.:10:19.

19-13. A big hit there, but she managed to

:10:20.:10:36.

get the ball away, England have numbers on the near side, Emily

:10:37.:10:42.

Scarratt going strong, England extend their lead further, the final

:10:43.:10:47.

flourish, Amy Wilson Hardy, and it looks like England will be

:10:48.:10:50.

victorious at Twickenham against the French.

:10:51.:10:58.

It was fantastic the way we dug in to come out in the second half,

:10:59.:11:02.

after being behind in the first, and we knew we weren't perfect and have

:11:03.:11:06.

a lot to work on. France came right at us in the first 40, had a lot of

:11:07.:11:10.

momentum and possession, so we knew we were in a Test match, it shows

:11:11.:11:14.

the strength of the team when we can grind out a win like that. It wasn't

:11:15.:11:18.

perfect, but sometimes it is about winning. Well, what a victory, and

:11:19.:11:25.

joining me to talk about it is the former England coach Gary Streeter

:11:26.:11:30.

and Emily Scarratt, player of the match, congratulations, what a

:11:31.:11:33.

difference from the first to the second half! Just a little bit! We

:11:34.:11:37.

knew France were going to be a tough test, and they properly did

:11:38.:11:40.

something different to what we were expecting in the first 40, so it

:11:41.:11:44.

took longer to adjust to that. Second half, we stuck to our

:11:45.:11:48.

processes, we got going forward, some of the girls' class really

:11:49.:11:53.

showed in the second half. You know Emily and the rest very well, what

:11:54.:11:58.

would Sarah have given confidence and said to these girls at

:11:59.:12:02.

half-time? I didn't think there were any problems second half, so many

:12:03.:12:07.

leaders in there, including Emily. At half-time they would just have

:12:08.:12:11.

talked about getting the process is right, fewer errors, I think,

:12:12.:12:22.

Emily's boot gave us a lot of territory. Is he right? Pretty much

:12:23.:12:27.

spot-on, that is widely used to be a coach! We knew the first 40 wasn't

:12:28.:12:31.

good enough, we reassessed and went back to the beginning, how we want

:12:32.:12:34.

to start the game. It is simple things when it is done right, France

:12:35.:12:38.

are a fantastic side, they will go on to have some really good

:12:39.:12:41.

performances in this competition, but we are really pleased with the

:12:42.:12:46.

end result. In a marginal match like that, a trustee boot makes the

:12:47.:12:49.

difference, that must have brought a lot of confidence back to the girls.

:12:50.:12:54.

Yes, hopefully, it does not always been that boot this season! We have

:12:55.:13:04.

got some good kickers, we will keep practising, and in games like that

:13:05.:13:08.

it really comes to the fore. There has been so much talk about the

:13:09.:13:11.

women's side being a professional setup, what has changed for you all?

:13:12.:13:15.

It just means we have more time together. As of January, all of the

:13:16.:13:19.

girls stopped working, we have had more time together, a couple of

:13:20.:13:23.

weeks leading into this game, rather than the two days we used to have.

:13:24.:13:28.

It is just that time together, that understanding, learning about each

:13:29.:13:31.

other, how we want to play. The second 40 was a better

:13:32.:13:38.

demonstration. Do you envy that set up now? We were lucky for the last

:13:39.:13:43.

World Cup, we work altogether after Christmas, but you can see the

:13:44.:13:47.

difference now, we looked calm, assured, and I was confident we were

:13:48.:13:51.

going to win with ten minutes to go. You have been involved in summary

:13:52.:13:54.

different England teams over the years, where does this one right? It

:13:55.:13:59.

is pretty special, always fantastic to play at Twickenham, coming back

:14:00.:14:04.

from 13 points down at half-time is pretty special. Sometimes it is a

:14:05.:14:07.

really good thing when you have tests like that, challenges like

:14:08.:14:10.

that, it shows what you have got in you. It probably would have been

:14:11.:14:14.

easier to roll over and settle for maybe a draw or a bit of a loss, but

:14:15.:14:19.

we want more than that this season, it is a big season, and the girls

:14:20.:14:23.

showed some real grit to get that win. Used Italy entertained the big

:14:24.:14:28.

crowd here at Twickenham, thank you for joining us. -- you certainly

:14:29.:14:32.

entertain. Scotland have not won in this tournament since 2010, so could

:14:33.:14:37.

they turn around seven years of bad luck? They kicked the tournament off

:14:38.:14:43.

against Ireland on Friday night, let's go over to the stadium in

:14:44.:14:44.

common old. -- Cumbernauld. McMillan at the five metre line,

:14:45.:14:57.

good play from her. The defence being caught at the moment. Scotland

:14:58.:15:00.

bashing their way towards the try line. Laugher happy to go forwards.

:15:01.:15:07.

They are almost there. Ireland's defence being tested -- Sarah Law

:15:08.:15:11.

happy to go forwards. Sarah Law wants another effort from her pack.

:15:12.:15:16.

Are they going to score the first try of this game? Almost at the

:15:17.:15:22.

line, just shot again. Any gaps in the Irish defence will be beaten. --

:15:23.:15:29.

just shot again. Jade Konkel back on her feet. Concours for the line! It

:15:30.:15:34.

is a trite for Scotland at! Jade Konkel, back in the team after

:15:35.:15:38.

injury, her 24th cap, she opens the scoreline. Jade Konkel, the try

:15:39.:15:46.

scorer, so good at that. Not an inch given. Scotland looking to carry.

:15:47.:15:57.

Taken by Malcolm. Turner on the outside. Miller trying to find the

:15:58.:16:02.

corner to go forward. Almost at the line. Is she down? Ireland seem to

:16:03.:16:06.

think so. We can't quite see from that angle. But she seems to think

:16:07.:16:12.

she has got the try. Yes,, a try is given, she capitalises on the

:16:13.:16:23.

Scotland mistake. The try better, Scotland having to hold them out.

:16:24.:16:30.

Just shot. Thought about having a role. Hughes goes left, it has to be

:16:31.:16:36.

violent, coin to Miller, into the corner. Ailsa Mallusk was for

:16:37.:16:40.

Ireland. They go in front for the first time in this match. Laugher

:16:41.:16:47.

looking for runners. The big prop forward. -- Sarah Law looking for

:16:48.:16:53.

honours. She is just shot as well. Options on both sides. They get in

:16:54.:17:00.

again at! This for a 4-point gap between the sides. It should be

:17:01.:17:04.

fairly straightforward. Conversion, went to the right and wide by Sarah

:17:05.:17:11.

Law. 12-10, Scotland league. Options again on the right-hand side. Sarah

:17:12.:17:14.

Law might fancy a break herself. Akira Griffin tackled her. -- Keira

:17:15.:17:18.

Bevan. Peters got her own way. The referee

:17:19.:17:28.

says you did not make an effort. And that's why shoe is penalised. You

:17:29.:17:32.

must roll away after making the tackle. Straight in front of the

:17:33.:17:38.

sticks. Struck it much better than the last kick. Looks pretty good

:17:39.:17:46.

from here. Scotland lead by 15-10. Let's see what they can do with this

:17:47.:17:51.

one. She was tackled in the air, that's dangerous, it should be a

:17:52.:17:55.

yellow card. Tackled in the air. Let's might just see. Or maybe it

:17:56.:17:59.

was the fact she landed on her side, I don't know. It is a yellow card.

:18:00.:18:05.

And it's Lindsey Smith who is going to go off. 33 caps today, she should

:18:06.:18:09.

know better than that. That's as blatant as you can get, really.

:18:10.:18:15.

Rilee, no problems there. In the arms of Claire Molloy, trying to get

:18:16.:18:23.

it to the back -- Reilly. Twists and turns, off Wehrlein, is it a try?

:18:24.:18:27.

Are they down? We're going to go up to the television match official. It

:18:28.:18:32.

looked good from here. But we need confirmation. Here it is. Did she

:18:33.:18:38.

get that down? Yes, she did. Try given, Lindsay Peat squares things

:18:39.:18:44.

up here. Going to the front, Park did well to take that. Long pass

:18:45.:18:50.

from Sarah Law. Nelson to Jade Konkel, on a hat-trick for Scotland,

:18:51.:18:54.

two prize already for her in the first half. Taken up this time by

:18:55.:19:02.

Wassell. -- two tries. Sarah Law into contact, taken up by Macmillan.

:19:03.:19:07.

Better for Scotland. Penalty. You can see the angle there. The flags

:19:08.:19:13.

stay down. Shaved the outside of the post. And that is a let off for

:19:14.:19:18.

Ireland. Maxwell, passes to the left. Nelson, Nelson almost there!

:19:19.:19:24.

What a tackle! Maxwell again. She really has livened things up at

:19:25.:19:30.

scrum-half. Through they go. Thomson. She made that break

:19:31.:19:34.

initially. Going back for the penalty. And it's against Ailsa

:19:35.:19:42.

Hughes, offside. And a chance for Scotland now to go three points

:19:43.:19:46.

ahead. It's a massive kick. She drools one, it looks left. And

:19:47.:19:51.

they've missed it again. Three takes that they really should have taken,

:19:52.:19:54.

Scotland. They would become bubbly ahead if they had done. -- be

:19:55.:20:01.

comfortably ahead. The Scottish defence needs to hold alt. Carrie up

:20:02.:20:06.

the middle, Jo Konta is short. Stapleton, crashed up the middle.

:20:07.:20:13.

Jenny Murphy has won it for Ireland at! Back in the team, back in the

:20:14.:20:17.

starting 15, and Ireland are going to lead, Broadwood Stadium with the

:20:18.:20:22.

victory. Murphy off the middle. I crawl blow for Scotland. -- a cruel

:20:23.:20:32.

blow. Ireland with a bonus point. So close for Scotland, not this time.

:20:33.:20:36.

We heard Lord also turns in commentary in England versus France.

:20:37.:20:40.

-- your dulcet tones. That is a tough one for the Scots to take. It

:20:41.:20:45.

is heartbreaking for them coming you can see it in their faces. They

:20:46.:20:49.

really thought they had done it. They put in the performance of their

:20:50.:20:52.

life, just to see it snatched away in the last play was really cruel.

:20:53.:20:57.

We mustn't take anything away from Ireland's performance, they came

:20:58.:21:01.

over and did exactly what they aim to do. Experience told in the end.

:21:02.:21:06.

Jenny Murphy's try, time was up. They dominated the ball, they kept

:21:07.:21:15.

hold of it, they did it in phases, when they moved it it was under the

:21:16.:21:18.

post and all over. Missed opportunities crucial for Scotland's

:21:19.:21:20.

los? Looking at the missed kicks, we saw in the England game how

:21:21.:21:23.

important kicking can be. The kick-out will be kicking herself, so

:21:24.:21:29.

to speak! I said at the beginning of this, seven years of bad luck, I'm

:21:30.:21:33.

not sure if you can have seven years of bad luck, but Scottish Rugby

:21:34.:21:36.

Union have put things in place to try and improve the standard of the

:21:37.:21:41.

women's game. Shade Munro is now coaching. He says this is the best

:21:42.:21:44.

performance he has seen in women's rugby for a long time. Would you

:21:45.:21:49.

echo that? Probably the best for ten years or so. I haven't seen all of

:21:50.:21:53.

their games. I think Shade Munro V has done a fantastic job. He is

:21:54.:21:56.

getting around and really changing the mindset of the Scots that they

:21:57.:22:00.

are coming to turn up and get beaten, they want to win. I think

:22:01.:22:05.

the games against Italy and Wales, they were really competitive. It

:22:06.:22:09.

will be interesting to see what they do next. Now that England have

:22:10.:22:13.

ticked off France, Ireland is the one they really need to concentrate

:22:14.:22:17.

on beating. Definitely, but they can't look too far ahead. They have

:22:18.:22:20.

to take the opposition seriously, but that will be the next big game

:22:21.:22:24.

for deciding the title, possibly. Next up is Wales. Wales travel to

:22:25.:22:30.

Italy. They put in some impressive matches in their Six Nations warm up

:22:31.:22:34.

under their new coach Rowland Phillips. When they went to Italy

:22:35.:22:37.

they were facing a side that has beaten them in their last freeing

:22:38.:22:39.

counters. -- three in counters. COMMENTATOR: Looking to use the

:22:40.:22:54.

weight advantage to put a threat, should get a penalty. Excellent work

:22:55.:22:59.

of the scrum. Well drilled by Paul Young. A study in concentration.

:23:00.:23:10.

Steps up, left footed. And puts it away for the opening score, Wales

:23:11.:23:17.

open their campaign in the 2017 Six Nations with a well struck penalty

:23:18.:23:18.

goal. In goes Mel Clay, the Welsh number

:23:19.:23:28.

five, alt, lovely work here. To the try line. If that all has been

:23:29.:23:35.

touched down, then it is a try. Inches short, not yet. Thomas, that

:23:36.:23:40.

is the first try! Well drilled outfit. This eight have got some

:23:41.:23:44.

power behind them when they do get going.

:23:45.:23:56.

She seemed to be up in the air for a considerable amount of time, but she

:23:57.:24:06.

has secured possession. Rigoni looks for the runners. Italy trying for a

:24:07.:24:12.

try, it is there, shortly. That's the school Italy were looking for. A

:24:13.:24:21.

well taken try by Manuel Furlan, and Italy are right back in it with five

:24:22.:24:25.

minutes to go before the break. Captured on the Italian try line,

:24:26.:24:34.

the Welsh players on the openside. Clay lock forward, takes it to

:24:35.:24:39.

ground. This time shortly. Wilkins out to Howell. A well taken try from

:24:40.:24:50.

the Wales fullback. That is a very important school for Wales at the

:24:51.:24:57.

top of the second half. -- score for Wales. 8-15, as Rachel Taylor climbs

:24:58.:25:02.

high once again. The forwards are there in numbers. Again, putting

:25:03.:25:08.

people forward. Look at that expression on her face, all of the

:25:09.:25:14.

effort. Carys Phillips, the captain, gets the try! And that is a crucial

:25:15.:25:20.

score for Wales. Expertly done. Many congratulations. Wins do not

:25:21.:25:33.

come easy away from home for Wales. This is a really tough place to

:25:34.:25:37.

come, to dig out that performance at the end was fantastic for us. It

:25:38.:25:40.

must have been a great feeling to score the winning try, away from

:25:41.:25:46.

Italy? To be fair, the whole pack pushed over and got it down the end.

:25:47.:25:51.

For the forwards, they put in a fantastic shift in the set piece

:25:52.:25:56.

today, scoring a try is a good feeling, but a good team performance

:25:57.:25:57.

is definitely what we needed. Amazing scenes out of Italy. The

:25:58.:26:15.

Welsh girls really enjoying that win. That completes Round 1. A bonus

:26:16.:26:20.

point away from Ireland could then top England and Wales with four

:26:21.:26:24.

points each, Scotland get a bonus point and they are in fourth place.

:26:25.:26:28.

It is alone's turned to travel to Italy, France host Scotland, and a

:26:29.:26:32.

big one in Cardiff as they welcome the neighbours, England. Before we

:26:33.:26:36.

take a look at that, let's talk about Wales- Italy. Gary, we use a

:26:37.:26:44.

prize that Wales managed to turn the tables on by Italians? Not really,

:26:45.:26:47.

Rowland Phillips has done a great job. They have got some forward

:26:48.:26:49.

carriers, they are becoming a really useful outfit. We could see at the

:26:50.:26:54.

end what a great teams break they have. That's important. Absolutely,

:26:55.:26:58.

you have to believe in yourself, you have to be confident, teams buried

:26:59.:27:01.

is a huge part of that. What will Wales have seen this England- France

:27:02.:27:09.

match that they can exploit? May be the set piece was a bit creaky, but

:27:10.:27:15.

we sorted it in the second half. They have lots of experience and

:27:16.:27:18.

will be relishing the chance to play Wales. We are all talking about

:27:19.:27:24.

England being a professional side. Wales we know not a professional

:27:25.:27:27.

side. What will they have been working on to close the gap a

:27:28.:27:30.

little? They have always had physicality throughout the years.

:27:31.:27:34.

Their point of difference is their fitness. They have been working

:27:35.:27:37.

really hard on it behind-the-scenes, hopefully we will see a really fit

:27:38.:27:41.

side and have a really good 80 minutes. Thank you, cat and Gary for

:27:42.:27:51.

your insights. We have had so much rugby coming up for you on the BBC.

:27:52.:27:54.

There is more reaction from Round 1 in Monday night in the Women's Six

it is never too late, or too cold, to cut the grass. What an opening
