A final farewell, Jersey's Lieutenant Governor says goodbye to

Jersey but not before he has spoken his mind.

Jersey's outgoing Lieutenant Governor has criticised the way

some parts of the island's community used the Haut de la

Garenne child abuse investigation for political gain. Lieutenant

General Sir Andrew Ridgeway said goodbye to Jersey today, but not

without first giving his opinion on his five years at Government House.

Brent Pilnick reports. Pomp and pageantry for departing

Lieutenant Governor. But as Sir Andrew Ridgeway took a final salute,

he reflected on one of the biggest issues to ever affect the island.

Sir Andrew felt that some of those in the community of which he was

there to represent tried to use the Haut De La Garenne child abuse

scandal for political gain. All the focus on the island should have

been for caring for those people, helping them to come to terms with

it. And crucially conducting the police investigation and gathering

the evidence so if possible people could be brought to trial for these

offences. When we should have been focused, everybody should have been

focused on that, they were diverted away by these extraordinary

allegations of a mass murders. And people attempting to exploited the

situation for political purposes. I think that was a great shame

because it distracted from the real effort, which was caring for the

people who had been through that abuse. The Ridgeway family are held

in high esteem by a Islanders, and as they queued up to say goodbye,

Sir Andrew reflected on a community spirit the UK could take heed of.

That culture of giving up time for the community is terrific. I hear

Prime Minister David Cameron struggling sometimes to explain

what he means by the big society. Just come here, it is here, alive

and well. As Sir Andrew got a final goodbye from the Chief Minister and

his wife, the island said farewell to a governor who is Tamar has

website. Lloyds Banking Group says it hasn't

ruled out redundancies in the Channel Islands after announcing

it's shedding 15,000 jobs across its operations. Most of the job

losses, which amount to 14% of its workforce, will be in middle

management. The group won't be reducing the number of branches on

the high street. Jersey politicians have agreed to

plans to regenerate the north of town in the area around the Odeon

cinema and the new Town Park. They've adopted the North of Town

masterplan, which includes proposals for housing on Ann Court,

shops and flats at Minden Place, and extra green space and

pedestrian areas. It's long been a problem blighting

Guernsey but now action is being taken to stop flytipping. Amy

Harris reports on the CCTV cameras which are being installed for the

first time at flytipping hotspots in St Peter Port in a bid to make

litterbugs think twice. Caught on camera, the messy problem

littering and Ireland. Fly-tipping. This quiet residential street is

one of the areas plagued by fly- tipping in Guernsey. You can see

evidence of it behind me, a suitcase and a black bin-liner just

left in the street. Neighbours here at Les Petites Fontaines say it

gets much worse. A lot of it is rubbish bags that are not tied up

and left out too early, so the sea gulls get it and it spreads down

the street. But then, source pounds, there was a washing machine once.

Chairs, mattresses. I don't understand what they think will

happen to it, who will take it away. That is why action is being taken.

This street is just one place in St Peter Port which is getting CCTV

cameras as town centre bosses crackdown on fly-tipping. I want to

stop people from doing it, under one to make people aware that it is

a social responsibility that everybody has to make sure the

street are keen. -- clean. It is welcome news for bosses here, whose

bosses have to -- whose workers have to pick up after their flight

to put. It is no need for it, if people stop throwing stuff away, it

is wasting taxpayers' money. With fines for anyone caught fly-tipping

up to �2,000, it is hoped the cameras will make people think

twice about how they dump their rubbish.

Guernsey's States members have voted against establishing a

compensation scheme for widows whose pension was replaced with a

bereavement allowance. The vote now means widows won't receive an extra

payment from the States. Jersey Police offices are to move

to a building facing the Green Street roundabout. Around 108

officers will transfer to Lime Grove House. The move will free up

land for new housing following renovation of the existing Rouge

Bouillon site where a small operational office and custody room

will remain. Flybe has reported making a �4.3

million loss in the year to March. That's compared to a profit of more

than �24 million the previous year. It's thought that disruption due to

the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud and last winter's bad weather

contributed to the losses. Good to have be with us here on BBC One.

We've plenty of action from volleyball, athletics, basketball

and much more in a moment. First football and Channel Island fans

savouring a Guernsey Jersey final will be disappointed tonight.

Jersey lost to the hosts the Isle of Wight and Roger Bara sent this

report. The Jersey football team will

probably be kicking themselves tonight. This is a ship -- match

they should have and could have won quite easily. They created by far

the best chances, none more so that this effort just before half-time.

Who knows what they 1-0 lead would have done in the second half. They

were the dominant force in the second period, dominating, creating

several chances but converting none. They could not clear a corner

before extra-time which allowed John Mackie to poke the ball in.

That was all the Isle of Wight needed to get to the final. Four

Jersey now, a play-off for bronze medal. They do not get the chance

to try and retain the gold medal in the Isle of Wight.

That was Jersey's result but Guernsey have made it through to

the final. They had a close match Guernsey came to these games

determined to prove they had overcome their least in -- a recent

loss to dent the point -- gently. It did not go to plant at first,

Guernsey hit back when Dominic Hulme scored an equaliser. As the

second half began, it was not long before Guernsey took the lead after

winning a penalty. Lynette Dyer stepped up and hit his target. That

was not to last, Aland evil to this -- even if the school. But then

Guernsey won 23-2, so they eat meat Isle of Wight in the final. -- they

won 3-2. So they meet the Isle of Wight and the final. We have

managed to clean the game off twice, they were magnificent today. We

mucked in when the time was right. Guernsey players will need a good

light so rest tonight before the final less than 20 -- 20 Boaz a

gate -- the final is less than 24 hours away.

As day five comes to an end, Guernsey continues to dominate the

medals table, with their old rivals Jersey not far behind. And it's

swimming that's helped boost both islands up the table. Emma Chambres

went along to last night's action to see another impressive Channel

It has been Channel Island domination at the swimming pool.

Guernsey have been unstoppable. Things are going great, we have had

a great week. Tonight was awesome winning every what -- relay, a bit

of revenge from last night. We are delighted, very happy. Jersey are

normally Guernsey's biggest rivals. But at this Island Games it is a

much younger team from the island without experienced swimmer Ian.

Guernsey have got to senior boys here, who are up to Ian black's

standard. Whether or not he would have won gold, you do not know. It

is making a difference when you miss the senior swimmers. But the

young ones have stepped up. Jersey ladies relay team certainly

stepped up. They won the Ireland's first gold medal in the pool.

time we won it three default, which has a great experience, but it just

winning it as a team, it is a bright new team, winning it

together was amazing. It is a great feeling. More records and medals

will be had tonight, but will Guernsey be able to hang on to

their top spot? This really has been Guernsey's

games so far. They've been top of the medals table since day one. A

little earlier I spoke to their very proud bailiff, who is in the

Isle of Wight, to see what he made of their success.

Guernsey have really dominated the games so far. What have you made of

the progress of the team? They have been doing brilliantly. For all the

teams, it is celebration of everything that is good about sport.

But we have done remarkably well. What about for yourself, any

highlight? It is very difficult to speak in terms of highlights. I

have to say cycling was brilliant, watching the Badminton, winning the

Golden Knights -- gold medal at midnight. Table tennis, getting the

goal. I have also much enjoyed people just doing their best,

getting personal bests, or a particular at Jersey inverses

Gandhi contest. All against some other island. -- Jersey versus

Guernsey contest. What do you think has been Guernsey's secret weapon?

I think the very fact that back home, we have tremendous facilities,

we have backing from sponsors and government and we have a lot of

young people committed to sport. A lot of the old people putting

something back into sport so our youngsters can come through. That

is the strength we have got in our team, and it showed at these Games.

You alluded to it there, always nice to be one ahead of your rivals

J D? That is always so. I am passionate about sport. If I see

someone from Jersey playing well, I applaud that just as much. I just

want to see good sport, fair competition and seeing everyone

enjoying themselves. A very proud man indeed. On to some

other sports news, here is a round- up of success on court, and on the

track, and a heavy dose of inter- island rivalry.

Another night at the track, another Channel Island gold. Louise Perrigo

of Guernsey defended her title in the 10,000 metres despite strong

winds. It was good, I was glad that other people were taking the wind.

It was not my favourite conditions, they did the work force. Fellow

sunny and Dave Garland a long dark -- -- Dave Garland got the long

jump and javelin. Thursday started strongly for Guernsey as well,

they're ladies volleyball team at faced Jersey. With no medals at

stake, just bragging rights. A nail-biting match that went to five

sets, at Jersey try and three sets to two. Worst luck for Guernsey

ladies basketball team, they lost their semi-final against Gibraltar.

They will play off for bronze tomorrow. In the squash, Jones the

-- the gens eat -- the Jersey men's double pairing hope to add to the

team gold. The men's gold, and their ladies saw there. Make no

mistake, Jersey's squash team means business. We came here to win for

sure. We had a great success in Shetland, that is the last time

squash has been in the Island Games. We are here to see if we can better

that. We are on target to do that. Just time to give you the latest on

the medals table. As you can see, Guernsey are still top, leading the

28 golds, 27 silvers and four Hello, good evening. Lots of fine

weather across the Channel Islands to enjoy over the next you days. No

appreciable rain, not such good news for the farmers and those who

need the name -- the rain. Those looking for fine and dry weather,

this high pressure will bring it. It moves across us over the next 24

hours, there it is across the western end of the English Channel

by lunchtime tomorrow. Across the weekend, it is there in one form or

another. We bring in easterly winds across the island, by the time we

get to the second half of the weekend. That brings a warm air, 23

degrees by Saturday and Sunday. Overnight tonight, some patchy

cloud but a lot of clear skies. Temperatures on the like --

temperatures on the low side for the night-time hours. A gentle

northerly breeze. Tomorrow we should have a lot more sunshine, we

may have some fair weather cloud floating by. Again, a gentle north

or north-east wind. If you have been following the Island Games,

the final day tomorrow on the Isle of Wight, the weather set fine and

dry with 20 the top temperature For hour surfers, a bit choppy.

Otherwise, no more than two or three feet. Here is the good news

for those who won the sunshine, it comes out across the weekend. 22 or
