Good evening and welcome. Noisy, intimidating and needs

policing - why children are too scared to play in Jersey's new

community park. Honoured for serving Queen and

country - Guernsey thanks its World War Two veterans.

And a prickly problem - what will happen to sick and injured

hedgehogs now their sanctuary is Jersey's new Town Park is to be

monitored after claims that young children are being bullied by

teenagers. It comes as separate complaints have been made about

noise and young people gathering there. All this just two weeks

after the park opened. Amy Harris reports. It is the new jewel in St

Helier's crown, but there is concern that Jersey's Millennium

Town Park is being blighted by anti-social behaviour. It has only

been open for two weeks, but already authorities have had to

paint over graffiti on play equipment and there have been

reports that younger children are too scared to play here because

they are being bullied and intimidated by teenagers. I try to

come on Saturday with my little one, but it was jam-packed full of

teenagers. You could see the younger ones were scared, standing

to decide waiting to get on the equipment. I didn't bring her reign

because it was too crowded full of all decades. When I have walked

past, I have seen teenagers hanging about. You can see younger children

getting insecure and nervous about that. Many parents have posted

their worries on this Facebook site and two 10-year-olds have even

written to the town constable. There are now calls for the area to

be better policed. I would like park marshals to be put there, or a

police presence to to tear any billion DEC goes on. If we allow

our youngsters to be believed, that will go through to their schooling

and the workplace. There have also been separate complaints about

skateboarders gathering in this area of the park. This footage

posted on the internet shows a skateboarder being chased off the

site by the honorary police. Now town bosses say the park will be

monitored. We are already in discussion with a number of

different agencies that will I am sure make sure in the short term to

make sure that the park is monitored, that it works and does

not give bad memories any children. Youth workers believe it is

inevitable that a busy park will experience friction between

children, but for park bosses these complaints will be far from the

start they wanted. A 27-year-old man has been

discharged from police bail in connection with the death of Liga

Verse. Guernsey police say it is as a result of reports from expert

witnesses, but they say they are making good progress with their

investigation. The 24-year-old Latvian was found dead in a flat in

Guernsey in August. Guernsey's longest-serving

politician is blaming the Policy Council for a lack of progress in

the States. Deputy Ivan Rihoy believes much of the problem is

down to how senior people are chosen. His committee is

recommending a move towards the system adopted by Jersey which

involves questioning candidates after their speeches. He thinks the

Policy Council is too big and the Chief Minister needs more executive

power. The thing is, they don't give enough guidance. We are not

getting our policies through. Things are not happening as they

should happen and it is costing the taxpayer a lot of money. Certain

things are being done that perhaps should not be being done, and

things that should be are not been done. What we have to make sure off

after the next election is that we get the right people in the right

jobs. In Guernsey a group of former

military servicemen have been honoured today at Government House.

Five former armed service personnel were awarded the Armed Forces

Veterans Badge at a special ceremony. Mike Wilkins was there.

Honoured today for serving their Queen and country. Thank you very

much. And I meant what I said, keep in touch. But, like many old

soldiers, modesty is the order of the day for these men. I don't

really deserve it. I am an infant in terms of service in regard to

other people and what they had done. It is unexpected, but I'm very

proud. An important part of these ceremonies is to let any former

service personnel know that help is always at hand. One of the things

to come out this lunchtime is that a very elderly gentleman here, now

in a wheelchair and in a hospital, one of our recipients today

mentioned him to me. He is not known to most of the people on the

island for his wartime service, but now we can get in touch with him

and bring him back into the family and if he has any needs, we will be

able to help them through the welfare organisations we have.

is important that civilians like myself to remember that we show

that we care and appreciates all that they have done. Some of these

men may not feel they deserve an award, but here today it was the

The parents of a Olivia Jordan Higgins thought it would be a great

idea if she spent a week of her summer holidays having a go at golf

at a local driving range. She was 13 and had never hit a ball before,

but she was pretty good. So good in fact 10 years later she turned

professional and has just completed her first year on the American

women's Future Tour. Edward Sault takes up the story.

Driving off on familiar shores. This is Royal Jersey, where Olivia

grew up, but it is in America that she is making her name. I went with

no expectations, really. I finished 40th on the money list out of 200

people, which I am really pleased with. I think I can only get better

from here. Playing in America offers more opportunities than

playing in Europe, but life as a tour professional is not easy.

Olivia stays with local families and drives the huge distances

between events to keep her costs down. She only has her winnings to

pay the bills. It is hard. There is nothing worse than missing the cut,

when you feel you have played well. You have just got to pick yourself

up and move on to the next week. This is my dream and what I have

always wanted to do. The sacrifices have to be maids and hopefully, in

time, but will pay off. Spending the winter at home allows Olivia to

work on her technique and fitness. She will be back on the tour in the

New Year, but, for now, Royal Jersey is providing a reassuringly

familiar practice ground. It feels good to be back. I miss

the sunshine and warm weather, but it is great to come home and

reassess everything, keep myself grounded.

Now, apparently this time of year is a dangerous time for these

little fellows, but Guernsey's Hedgehog Rescue Centre will soon

have to close its doors. So, just who will be there to help the

Island's prickliest residents? Penny Elderfield reports.

The modern world can be a dangerous place for hedgehogs. There are

strimmers to contend with, bonfires and busy roads. But, luckily, since

2005 Dawn has been running a rescue centre helping hundreds of

hedgehogs each year. Six years on, though, the decision has been made

to close it. It has been a very hard decision, that we have been

struggling for 18 months because of the shortage of volunteers. It

became very difficult to cover the rotors and I work seven days a week

and it has just got too much. are currently 60 hedgehogs here,

all of which will be released, including Rocket, who will be let

out later this week. But the centre won't be accepting anymore and the

GSPCA has stepped into help. has been passing on our details and

people are being made aware that we're taking in these hedgehogs. We

have seen three or four hedgehogs a day coming into the shelter. It is

a lot more work for ourselves. Dawn the hard work is likely to

continue until next spring, when she can release the final hedgehogs

at the centre, and finally close it Let's see what the weather is going

to do. Good evening. Not a great deal of change in the weather at

this evening, but tomorrow at the chance of some rain turning up as

more cloud consent of the Atlantic. A weather front gets in close

enough tomorrow to bring some rain. Try for tonight and much of the day

tomorrow. This is the weather front I'm talking about. That moves

somewhat closer towards the south- west by midday tomorrow. Just

enough cloud, thick enough to give us some outbreaks of rain during

the evening tomorrow. At the time we get into their estate that will

have moved away and Thursday should be a bright, dry day. So, as we

move towards the weekend, there should be some fine weather around,

becoming cloudy into Saturday. Overnight tonight, patchy cloud

which will become expensive - - extensive by the morning. Tomorrow

we will have a lot of the cloud for much of the day, although it will

brighten up for a time in the early afternoon. To end the day we will

see some light and patchy rain spilling from the south-west.

award for the work she does for animals in the island. Remember

Laddy here? He was blind in both eyes. Well, Bunny Roberts arranged

him to be flown to the UK on a private jet for specialist

treatment. He has now got his sight back and is leading a normal life.

It is stories like these that Bunny says got her the award. We are

coming up to Christmas now and an animal is not just for Christmas,

it is for life. It doesn't matter what it is. Now is the most

important time for them. Things are getting difficult to because the
