Shifting the problem - Guernsey decides to send its rubbish Off

island. Now Jersey have to decide if they will take it. Why it is not

in the polls - jobs gone services cut as Guernsey Post battle to cut

costs. And butting out - Jersey hospitals crackdown on patients who

want to light up. Guernsey will export its rubbish

and future - that is have some work can be found to take it. This

states today agreed it was the best option, along with recycling up to

70% of the island's waste. Talks will now start to see if there is a

deal to be made with Jersey. But there was some concern that is

unlikely to happen. If it has taken a while but

Guernsey's dates have finally agreed to -- on what to do with the

Island's rubbish. And Jersey's energy from waste plant is the

favoured destination. Negotiations will now start to send tonnes of

thousands of Guernsey's waste here each year. We are hoping f the two

Islands can work together. There are two -- there are other

incinerators out there in Europe and UK that could take it. The cost

of shipping might be greater. These will be less than the figures we

have seen from Jersey. But not all of the estates are convinced it

will be that easy. It is slightly morally dubious to get the decision

were we feel that Jersey can incinerator rubbish. If it is sent

away, the rubbish is likely to be baled here. And of Jersey is the

end destination, it will arrive here at either Elizabeth terminal

or Victoria Quay. We do not want any unpleasant smells. Everything

will be sealed and straight into the energy from waste plant. It is

up deal that would have to be OK. Alex Italy prices -- electricity

prices in Jersey are going up. They will rise by 2.9% in May. It is the

first increase for three years. Jersey Electricity says it will

allow titbit to invest in the future uncover the rising cost of

important power. -- imported power. The operator Jersey's bus service

will take its first -- its fleet of buses with them when they leave the

island at the end of the year. Connex innervated to buses lost out

to CT Plus as the state'ss' preferred operator. The company

says they are disappointed another operated has been chosen as the

preferred bidder for the contract. For it is thought exam results are

Guernsey's high schools will improve on was immediately once

work starts to act on recommendations and a highly

critical review. It was launched after a poor GCSE results flagged

up that there were problems within the education system. Their new

chief officer of the department has already started visiting the

schools and hopes to have a clearer idea of what needs to be changed by

million to help young people find work. The Prince's Trust lock-up

earlier. This is fantastic news for the young people of Jersey. The

money that we have got through the Prince's Trust is about investing

in young people and looking at some of the Prince's Trust programmes

that turf delivered in the UK and bringing some of them over to their

islands. We will expand on the programmes we deliver. What are

those programmes? If we look at the team programme which has a 12 week

personal development programme. They would do Monday to Friday on

the programme, nine o'clock to four o'clock every day. It is about that

personal development. It is about team building, preparing people

there the world of work and interview skills. You see their

young people grow through confidence and self confidence.

are the types of people that these programmes help? The Princess Trust

programmes have been around for about 30 years. -- Prince's Trust.

They do work. The success raised -- this up -- the success rates are

have are very high. specifically is set to benefit from

this cash? The Prince's Trust target those people who are

unemployed, who are under achievers, offenders and ex-offenders, or

young people who have been leaving the care centre and that support.

Jobs are to go out Guernsey Post as the organisation battles to cut

costs. It is because less people will be required on Saturdays as

the service will be cancelled from the end of March. But as Mike

welcomes reports, there could be even more redundancies to come.

Sending and receiving a post on a Saturday has been something many of

us have taken for granted. But 24th March will be the last such

delivery and it will -- and with it will go nine jobs saving Guernsey

Post �400,000 per year. However, certain parcels will still be

delivered on a Saturday. We will have a smaller scale operation but

it will mean there will be some continuation of service. It has won

it a few years to Guernsey Post. Or the last two years 44 jobs have

been lost as their organisation strives to cut costs and ensure its

survival when more people are choosing to use social media and

send e-mails rather than letters. And the uncertainty over the future

of low-value and Simon relief, which allows local retailers to

sell goods tax free to UK customers, could mean more job losses. I would

not rule out further redundancies but I would not expect them on the

scale we had in the last year. In total we have saved around �3

million across the business over that period. Undoubtedly you -- we

will need to work harder to balance the books. I expect over the course

of the next year, it will be smaller changes and once that not

only make improvements along the way. As users of the service, we

may expect their best, but the reality is the cost of delivering

that means that something has to give.

well in a few moments's time. From next month patients in Jersey who

want to smoke will have to discharge themselves from hospital

to do that. The health and social services department is introducing

a ban on smoking in all its buildings and grounds.

A ban was introduced five years ago. Now the Health Department is to

completely banned smoking on its grounds. It means patients will

have to temporarily discharge themselves if they want to light up.

If anyone has to look right to a small, you don't have to discharge

yourself from hospital to do it. -- anyone has the right to smoke.

up smoking and offered nicotine patches during the hospital stay.

The health officer is confident as in the best interests of staff and

environment where smoking is around. He will expect the Health Service

to be a smoke-free environment. smoking ban will start on 14th

away tonight but it introduces a lot of humid conditions and quite

misty conditions as well. There could be quite a lot of fog around,

not only get around the islands but out at sea. Possibly some travel

the day tomorrow. Very misty conditions and with that humidity,

the visibility could be a problem throughout the day. By the time we

Tomorrow, for much of the day we have a cover of low cloud. In

places we will have some fog, we will have cost will and sea fog as
