An investigation is under way into why an aeroplane searching for two

:00:07.:00:58.

missing fishermen crash landed in Jersey last night. Nobody on board

:00:59.:01:04.

the aircraft was injured. The emergency call came in at about 615

:01:05.:01:07.

yesterday evening. Shortly afterwards, the air search aircraft

:01:08.:01:12.

joined the investigation and then at 7:15, name telemarketing `` Lion's

:01:13.:01:24.

Pride ditched. The Lee`on`Solent coastguard helicopter rescued the

:01:25.:01:27.

two men from the Ecrehous. Operations were stood down just

:01:28.:01:31.

before midnight. Tonight one of those fishermen remains in

:01:32.:01:35.

hospital. The first daytime pictures of the

:01:36.:01:39.

Lion's Pride where it came to rest. This islander aircraft is more used

:01:40.:01:42.

to rescuing people around the Channel Islands but last night

:01:43.:01:46.

became caught up in an emergency of its own. The nose of the Lion's

:01:47.:01:51.

Pride rests in a tree today where the aircraft came to a standstill

:01:52.:01:54.

last night. You can see the left`hand wheel has buckled upon

:01:55.:01:58.

impact and the left side of the wing is resting on the ground. The pilot

:01:59.:02:04.

yesterday evening, for him to bring the aircraft in having realised

:02:05.:02:09.

there was an engine fault, to bring the aeroplane in and landed on to

:02:10.:02:15.

rain which would make you nervous in daylight, at night time without any

:02:16.:02:20.

lights and to bring it to a halt was nothing other than miraculous.

:02:21.:02:26.

Martin Viney was on a five who set off for the Ecrehous yesterday

:02:27.:02:29.

afternoon. The aim was to spend today fishing off the reef. After

:02:30.:02:35.

three of them had dropped off safely on the reef, his brother Stephen and

:02:36.:02:38.

friend Jason Bonhomme went to more their boat. The dinghy they would

:02:39.:02:42.

then use to get back to their hut on the islands then lost engine power.

:02:43.:02:47.

Two very experienced guys are lots of training which stood them in

:02:48.:02:51.

great stead and we said to them keep the light flashing to the

:02:52.:02:55.

shore. We were standing there and when the lights went out we

:02:56.:02:58.

collectively made a decision that we would then phoned the coastguard

:02:59.:03:03.

emergency services. Which is what we did. What did it feel like at that

:03:04.:03:09.

point? Absolutely horrendous. As the evening went on, you were in one of

:03:10.:03:13.

the huts and you heard something outside. One of the lads, Mark, he

:03:14.:03:18.

was just lying there and I have heard a shout. And I said, "Mark,

:03:19.:03:26.

somebody shouting". That is when we got up and went downstairs and my

:03:27.:03:31.

brother appeared at the door and this was 11:15, absolutely

:03:32.:03:40.

incredible. Back at St Mary, the Lion's Pride remains at rest and

:03:41.:03:42.

will do so for a while. Investigators will start work

:03:43.:03:49.

shortly to find out why this plane ended up making an emergency landing

:03:50.:03:56.

in a Jersey field. Next tonight, representatives from

:03:57.:03:59.

Guernsey's postal flower industry could be meeting with UK MPs to make

:04:00.:04:06.

their case for getting LVCR reinstated. The tax relief which

:04:07.:04:09.

allowed low value items to be sold to the UK tax free at a massive

:04:10.:04:12.

impact on local flower industries will

:04:13.:04:17.

and industry under pressure. No longer able to sell to the UK

:04:18.:04:23.

tax`free, the loss of VAT relief has made it tough for local postal

:04:24.:04:27.

flower companies. But progress is being made to try to change that.

:04:28.:04:31.

Representatives of the industry could be heading to Westminster this

:04:32.:04:35.

month to make their case to MPs about why LVCR should be reinstated

:04:36.:04:41.

for certain home`grown items. It makes a difference because the MPs

:04:42.:04:45.

get to understand the problems that some of our growers have here. They

:04:46.:04:50.

are really facing hard times not having the same benefit that every

:04:51.:04:53.

other grower and the European Union has stop I desperately want to move

:04:54.:04:58.

this forward and so this is one of many measures to try to get

:04:59.:05:05.

something new in place of LVCR to help out what remains of our growing

:05:06.:05:10.

industry. It may be a slow process but there are at least signs of

:05:11.:05:13.

progress and not only for this industry. The loss of VAT relief had

:05:14.:05:18.

a big impact at the post office as well with Guernsey Post losing

:05:19.:05:22.

around seven of its ten biggest customers and having to foot the

:05:23.:05:24.

bill for the cost of collecting more tax on behalf of the UK. But now

:05:25.:05:29.

after months of talking, they are weeks away from signing a new deal

:05:30.:05:34.

as well. We sped a while analysing our own costs and the cost of

:05:35.:05:38.

collecting the VAT to put a case forward. That has been well received

:05:39.:05:45.

by HMRC. We have a certain amount of labour, and they get involved and

:05:46.:05:51.

those of the cost we will look to recover. That agreement may be

:05:52.:05:55.

closer to a deal to help the local growing industry but they will be

:05:56.:05:57.

hoping the talks later this month will get things moving in the right

:05:58.:06:03.

direction. Some news in brief now, a lawyer

:06:04.:06:08.

acting for the UK drugs baron Curtis Warren has urged Europe's to treat

:06:09.:06:17.

him fairly `` urged jurors. Prosecutors are now trying to

:06:18.:06:21.

confiscate nearly ?200 million from him. His case consists of over 00

:06:22.:06:25.

agreed statements and legal letters, the trial continues tomorrow.

:06:26.:06:33.

Jersey's, health Minister has been sentenced to three months in prison

:06:34.:06:38.

for contempt of court, Stuart Syvret. The judge said Syvret showed

:06:39.:06:44.

serious and repeated contempt and should be arrested and made to pay

:06:45.:06:48.

court costs. A community safety group in Jersey

:06:49.:06:51.

is calling for nightclubs to stay open later for an alcohol free chill

:06:52.:06:55.

out hour. The Safer St Helier partnership think it could reduce

:06:56.:07:04.

disturbances. Later in Spotlight with Justin and

:07:05.:07:10.

Natalie, newts disrupting the network, how they are causing havoc

:07:11.:07:15.

for a train company. Next, important documents from the

:07:16.:07:19.

Occupation have been recovered by police in Guernsey. 21 years after

:07:20.:07:23.

they were stolen. The files tell the stories of relations between Jersey

:07:24.:07:27.

but the Government and the occupying German forces and today they were

:07:28.:07:33.

returned to the archives. A crucial part of the history of

:07:34.:07:38.

occupied Jersey, lost 42 decades and today returned home. These are part

:07:39.:07:45.

of a huge raft of file stolen from the bailiffs Chambers `` lost for

:07:46.:07:49.

two decades. Up until now, it was thought these five of the papers

:07:50.:07:55.

were lost forever. They've form part of the archives which is

:07:56.:07:57.

correspondence between the bailiff of Jersey, and the German

:07:58.:08:02.

authorities during the Occupation. So they tell us the story officially

:08:03.:08:09.

about the island and there occupants experience. It is such an important

:08:10.:08:12.

part of our history and these files show us what happened during that

:08:13.:08:16.

time. The Jewish file is interesting... The missing documents

:08:17.:08:21.

include treatments of Jews and costs paid by the state to billets German

:08:22.:08:26.

soldiers so when Linda spotted World War II papers up for sale in

:08:27.:08:28.

Guernsey, she got in touch with Guernsey Police to get them back. We

:08:29.:08:36.

thought they made part of the collection from 1992 that was still

:08:37.:08:42.

outside `` outstanding `` Jersey police. We then liaise with our

:08:43.:08:46.

Guernsey colleagues and they conducted some enquiries and

:08:47.:08:51.

thankfully they were able to recover almost 500 documents. And we are

:08:52.:08:54.

glad that we could bring them back to the island where they can be

:08:55.:08:58.

displayed in the archive which is their rightful home. Police say the

:08:59.:09:04.

original thieves have already faced the courts so there will be no new

:09:05.:09:07.

prosecutions. The files will be available to the orbit from tomorrow

:09:08.:09:11.

in the archive but for now they are back home safely locked away.

:09:12.:09:21.

To sit `` tickets for next year s Sark folk Festival have sold out

:09:22.:09:24.

over the weekend, it is not even happening until next year. No

:09:25.:09:29.

confirmed performers either. Organisers say they cannot sell any

:09:30.:09:32.

more because the island's transport system would not hope. It attracts

:09:33.:09:36.

around 1000 fans every year. Let's get the weather now.

:09:37.:09:41.

After a while 24 hours or so, things are a little bit, now the wind has

:09:42.:09:48.

died down there is still the risk of some showery outbreaks overnight

:09:49.:09:52.

tonight. But the main feature of the weather, the strength of the wind

:09:53.:09:55.

that has eased. Tomorrow for fireworks and bonfire displays,

:09:56.:10:01.

expect to see some thick cloud which may produce some rain that the early

:10:02.:10:04.

rain first thing tomorrow morning should clear and then for a while

:10:05.:10:08.

will get some sunny spells but it is windy with the winds north`westerly

:10:09.:10:12.

four Match Of The Day. Shortly breaks for an otherwise white

:10:13.:10:16.

unsettled story. For the moment we have got some clear sky covering

:10:17.:10:20.

north`west France as well as the Channel Islands. This lump of cloud

:10:21.:10:24.

is sweeping towards us fast through the night so expect it to give us

:10:25.:10:31.

some abbots of rain and then it will clear with some sunny spells

:10:32.:10:36.

tomorrow afternoon but then it leaks back to this Atlantic air system,

:10:37.:10:40.

thick cloud tomorrow evening. For the fireworks displays, most of them

:10:41.:10:45.

will be dry. Wednesday is a windy day again, south`west winds which

:10:46.:10:48.

could be gale force at times and further outbreaks of rain coming in

:10:49.:10:51.

through the afternoon. The rain tonight, widespread at times quite

:10:52.:10:56.

heavy and it will Peter out towards the morning. They are mainly from

:10:57.:11:00.

the west or south West or south`west and nine Celsius, the minimum

:11:01.:11:04.

temperature. Tomorrow morning will be mainly cloudy but come lunchtime

:11:05.:11:08.

just after, it will improve and we will see some sunny spells

:11:09.:11:11.

developing and it becomes largely dry. The winds are north`westerly,

:11:12.:11:16.

fresh too strong and we will see them produce up to around 14 Celsius

:11:17.:11:20.

as a maximum. These are the coastal Waters forecasts. And the times of

:11:21.:11:26.

high water: For most of our surfing beaches the

:11:27.:11:35.

conditions are likely to be quite messy. Wednesday is a wet and windy

:11:36.:11:38.

day turning showery on Thursday and Friday.

:11:39.:11:43.

BBC Guernsey tomorrow morning, following on from the plane crash,

:11:44.:11:48.

Jim is exploring the cost of funding the air search with its founder

:11:49.:11:53.

member. And as traffic wraps up with the rope a still closed, we will

:11:54.:11:56.

hear the latest on the road transport strategy. All that with

:11:57.:12:00.

Jim Cathcart from 7am on BBC Guernsey. That is it from the

:12:01.:12:04.

Channel Islands, let's join Spotlight.

:12:05.:12:10.

are doing as much as they can to make that known where they live.

:12:11.:12:16.

Coming up later in the programme ` delayed again by the weather. We'll

:12:17.:12:19.

hear from the local yachtsman still waiting for the start of the Transat

:12:20.:12:22.

race. And find out how Great Crested Newts

:12:23.:12:35.

are delaying rail improvements. More than 100 new jobs will be

:12:36.:12:39.

created in Plymouth with the development of artists studios and

:12:40.:12:41.

workshops. The scheme has secured more than ?2 million of European

:12:42.:12:45.

funding and as John Danks reports, it's hoped it will help to keep some

:12:46.:12:48.

of the most talented arts graduates in the city.

:12:49.:12:53.

Moulding a career from the arts can be a challenge for graduates. Jane

:12:54.:12:59.

completed her degree in contemporary Craft earlier this year. She moved

:13:00.:13:02.

away from Plymouth for a while, before finding a job back here in

:13:03.:13:07.

the College of art. She welcomes the boost to arts funding in the city.

:13:08.:13:12.

That's what Plymouth needs, graduate opportunities where you have

:13:13.:13:22.

excellent studio space. 32 new artists studios are to be built here

:13:23.:13:28.

at the Royal William Yard. Artists will be able to create and sell

:13:29.:13:34.

their work here. We tend to have an intubation space and business

:13:35.:13:39.

support with various network providers from the region. There

:13:40.:13:44.

will be workshop facilities, ceramics, jewellery, Prince, which

:13:45.:13:49.

ordinarily artists wouldn't be able to afford that kind of equipment.

:13:50.:13:54.

Work is due to start here soon, with the facility being ready by 2015.

:13:55.:14:05.

Ocean Studios secured the money. If you get a hundred jobs for ?800,000,

:14:06.:14:12.

that is greatly village of that will stand against any project. Good news

:14:13.:14:19.

perhaps for some of these arts graduates of tomorrow, but the

:14:20.:14:22.

demand for studio space is as high, with more than 200 artists already

:14:23.:14:27.

on the waiting list for the new development.

:14:28.:14:31.

Time for the sport now and Dave has news from a pretty good weekend for

:14:32.:14:38.

our teams. We start with their bad news. Yeovil

:14:39.:14:44.

Town's recent revival was halted at Leeds United in the Championship by

:14:45.:14:48.

two goals to nil. They were holding their own at half`time, but two

:14:49.:14:51.

second half finishes from Ross McCormack sent the Glovers back to

:14:52.:14:54.

the bottom of the table. Gary Johnson's team now face FA Cup

:14:55.:14:57.

holders Wigan Athletic at Huish Park next Sunday. It is a long way off

:14:58.:15:07.

yet and at the end of the season, it is 30 games. As long as we keep

:15:08.:15:10.

improving and I see an improvement in the labs, we're getting there and

:15:11.:15:14.

we're competing. Onto the rest of the football and rugby. Exeter

:15:15.:15:17.

Chiefs maintained their top four placing in the Premiership after a

:15:18.:15:20.

narrow win at Sale Sharks. The round ball game saw precious wins for

:15:21.:15:23.

Plymouth Argyle and Torquay United in League Two. Earlier, former

:15:24.:15:25.

professional players Chris Hargreaves and Andy Birkett joined

:15:26.:15:36.

me to take stock of the results. Another good result, they have

:15:37.:15:45.

beaten others at home. He is awesome with his boot. Great technique for

:15:46.:15:56.

any youngster playing sport. A couple of tackles, keen to get his

:15:57.:16:02.

shirt back. It is a tough team to get into at the moment. Plymouth

:16:03.:16:14.

Albion went down despite a brave fight against Bristol. Albion a bit

:16:15.:16:28.

disappointing. Better than some other teams, but still

:16:29.:16:35.

disappointing. Exeter city second successive defeat, this time at

:16:36.:16:38.

Portsmouth. They were 3`0 down at Fratton Park. Classic case of

:16:39.:16:48.

inconsistency. Frustrating for them. Defending crosses is really

:16:49.:16:56.

important. They scored two on the day, good headers. One crumb of

:16:57.:17:01.

comfort, a glimmer of hope was the mini fightback. A great striker's

:17:02.:17:08.

finish here. That will give him some confidence and the team some

:17:09.:17:12.

confidence, because they nearly did it. Why the sudden turnaround? Art

:17:13.:17:22.

work, training ground, solid shape, knocking goals away, usual stuff

:17:23.:17:32.

will stop a brilliant finish across the keeper. No better time to

:17:33.:17:41.

score, 90 minutes on the clock. Paul McCallum, what a difference as he

:17:42.:17:48.

made for Torquay? This first man coming up has made a big difference.

:17:49.:17:56.

But Blair comes back in. 26 days ago, he had surgery, that is a big

:17:57.:18:01.

mark of a man to do that. Come back in, please, scores the first balls

:18:02.:18:08.

and calms the nerves. There is his first. A great header, carbon copy

:18:09.:18:16.

of the first one. He scores a brilliant finish, he scores a great

:18:17.:18:32.

goal here. Nice to see you, thanks for the entertainment.

:18:33.:18:36.

Britain's top jump jockey AP McCoy needs two more victories to reach

:18:37.:18:39.

the 4,000 winners milestone and he could do it at Exeter racecourse

:18:40.:18:46.

tomorrow. McCoy has three rides at the Haldon track all on Jonjo

:18:47.:18:50.

O'Neill horses. It will be fitting if he manages the feat as he rode

:18:51.:18:54.

his first ever British winner at Exeter in 1994 on Chickabiddy.

:18:55.:19:00.

Racing starts at ten to two with the feature race, the Haldon Gold Cup,

:19:01.:19:08.

an hour later. Falmouth yachtsman Sam Goodchild

:19:09.:19:10.

will have to wait three more days before being able to start the

:19:11.:19:14.

Transat Jacques Vabre yacht race from France to Brazil. The start has

:19:15.:19:18.

been delayed for a second time due to bad weather. Spotlight's Andy

:19:19.:19:30.

Breare has the latest from Le Havre. After news of another delay, there

:19:31.:19:36.

has been a despondent moods in their race village. The skipper says while

:19:37.:19:40.

the postponement is frustrating, it is understandable. If we have an

:19:41.:19:45.

option to go in light winds, which might be an option on Thursday,

:19:46.:19:49.

definitely, let's take it. I want to race with everyone else. 45 knots

:19:50.:19:55.

doesn't normally allow that to happen. Last night, the skipper is

:19:56.:19:59.

here held an unofficial meeting, where the majority decided they

:20:00.:20:03.

weren't happy starting the race today because of the very high

:20:04.:20:08.

winds. They took that decision to the race director, who capitulated

:20:09.:20:12.

and promptly postponed the release until Thursday. 80% of us didn't

:20:13.:20:18.

want to leave. For us, it was the right decision. The last thing we

:20:19.:20:28.

want is to go in that weather. The frustrating game continues for the

:20:29.:20:32.

race fleet as they prepared to race to Brazil on Thursday.

:20:33.:20:43.

Finally, Guernsey's Heather Watson had to withdraw from the singles of

:20:44.:20:47.

the Barnstaple Tennis Open. She was feeling unwell, but did return for

:20:48.:20:50.

the doubles in which she and Jo Konta were eliminated in the

:20:51.:21:02.

semi`finals. Network Rail has been forced to

:21:03.:21:05.

delay improvement work to its track in Devon after rare Great Crested

:21:06.:21:10.

Newts were found near the site. The amphibians are protected by EU and

:21:11.:21:14.

UK law. The train company has put up several

:21:15.:21:18.

miles of special newt fencing so it can remove the creatures before it

:21:19.:21:21.

starts work at Whiteball tunnel at Burlescombe. Spotlight's Janine

:21:22.:21:29.

Jansen has the story. What is made of white plastic and

:21:30.:21:36.

goes on and on and on? It is new to fencing. Network rail wants to

:21:37.:21:41.

improve the track, but the trouble is, there is a pond nearby and in

:21:42.:21:44.

our prayer and protected Great Crested Newts. So network We'll have

:21:45.:21:52.

to remove them before they start work. Simon Williams has to check

:21:53.:21:59.

more than 200 buckets and mats for 60 days. So far, he has found 45.

:22:00.:22:04.

The day I met him, we weren't so lucky. A few frogs, but now Great

:22:05.:22:14.

Crested Newts. When was the last time you counted them? Day before

:22:15.:22:21.

yesterday. The local farmer is amazed. Never heard of them before.

:22:22.:22:28.

I couldn't believe that. I much fencing have they put up? I would've

:22:29.:22:32.

thought something like three miles of fencing, because it's all round

:22:33.:22:39.

my spots here and they have gone inside the railway to the end of the

:22:40.:22:44.

tunnel and then they have gone in this other field. They said the

:22:45.:22:53.

fencing alone has cost ?25,000. The traps are made as enticing as

:22:54.:23:01.

possible. A bit of foliage, bit of sponge, increase any mammals I'm in

:23:02.:23:06.

there and they can climb out if it gets waterlogged. Simon says the

:23:07.:23:11.

biggest number of Great Crested Newts years found here in one`day

:23:12.:23:18.

was 19. It is amazing what you learn. I

:23:19.:23:24.

never knew there was such a thing as Newt fencing. Time for the weather

:23:25.:23:27.

forecast. More to come this week, don't expect

:23:28.:23:41.

anything to settle down. We have had a lovely day today, but only for one

:23:42.:23:53.

day. If you were kept awake last night by the gusts of wind, these

:23:54.:23:57.

are the gusts of wind between midnight and three in the morning.

:23:58.:24:07.

It is a little bit quieter this evening. The winds to pick up in the

:24:08.:24:11.

second half of the night. The reason for the unsettled weather is the

:24:12.:24:15.

position of the Jetstream coming out of Canada, stealing low`pressure

:24:16.:24:21.

across the Atlantic and down across us. That doesn't change much for the

:24:22.:24:27.

next three to four days. That cloud will bring us rain overnight. This

:24:28.:24:45.

was a picture from earlier today. The cloud has increased from the

:24:46.:24:50.

farm waste, bringing drizzle. Earlier today in Plymouth, it wasn't

:24:51.:24:55.

that bad. We had blue sky and sunshine. It has felt warmer. With

:24:56.:25:00.

the clear skies, later on this evening, it could turn quite chilly.

:25:01.:25:08.

Eastern parts of the region could see temperatures well down. Today

:25:09.:25:15.

has been marked by that blue sky and excellent visibility. Overnight, we

:25:16.:25:23.

follow this cloud and rain as it goes through Cornwall, moves into

:25:24.:25:27.

Devon. Not a great deal of work where there, but big enough cloud to

:25:28.:25:36.

bring rain just about anywhere. Around 67 degrees, claiming up to

:25:37.:25:43.

nine or ten by Dawn this morning. Once the main band moves through, we

:25:44.:25:49.

should get some sunshine. Showers more frequent in the early evening.

:25:50.:25:56.

For most of us, the second half of the day promises some sunshine.

:25:57.:26:03.

Temperatures struggling a little, up to 13 degrees.

The north coast is quite dangerous at the moment, with those big waves.

:26:23.:26:41.

Another belt of wet weather coming in, difficult to say where they

:26:42.:26:49.

really strong gusts of wind are likely to be. Showers on Thursday,

:26:50.:26:58.

staying unsettled, somewhat cooler into Friday.

:26:59.:27:04.

That's all for now, but there will be a news update at 8pm and the late

:27:05.:27:13.

news at 10:25pm. We will be back with you at 6am tomorrow.
