from the Atlantic. Thank you very much. That's it from us. On | :00:00. | :00:07.
Hello. Welcome to Friday's BBC Channel Islands news. Our top | :00:08. | :00:16.
stories: Cleared for take off ` Aurigny and Blue Islands are given | :00:17. | :00:19.
the green light to join forces on the Guernsey`Jersey air link, but | :00:20. | :00:25.
will prices rise as a result? It is better for it to go ahead and | :00:26. | :00:29.
preserve some competition on the route than to allow the status quo | :00:30. | :00:34.
to continue. Also, the new man at Jersey Rugby | :00:35. | :00:37.
Club, but can Harvey Biljon turn the club's fortunes around after a | :00:38. | :00:42.
disappointing season? I have had a chance to speak to the players this | :00:43. | :00:46.
week and we have put it behind us and we will drive forward. | :00:47. | :00:48.
And we're given rare behind`the`scenes access with | :00:49. | :00:49.
Jersey's firearms unit. Aurigny and Blue Islands are joining | :00:50. | :01:08.
forces on the Guernsey to Jersey air link. The two airlines will be | :01:09. | :01:11.
working together on the inter`island route following permission by the | :01:12. | :01:15.
competition regulator. It means whichever airline you book with | :01:16. | :01:19.
you'll end up on a Blue Islands plane. Penny Elderfield reports | :01:20. | :01:25.
Joining forces on one of Guernsey's key air links. Aurigny and Blue | :01:26. | :01:29.
Islands have been given the go ahead to merge on the Guernsey to Jersey | :01:30. | :01:39.
route. We have been provided with compelling evidence that it was very | :01:40. | :01:42.
likely that in the very short`term one of them would leave the route if | :01:43. | :01:46.
this was not permitted. Our judgement is that having some | :01:47. | :01:51.
competition on the route for consumers is a better outcome than | :01:52. | :01:54.
having a monopoly. Passengers will still be able to book individually | :01:55. | :01:57.
with Aurigny and indeed Blue Islands. The only difference will be | :01:58. | :02:01.
that it'll only be a Blue Islands plane that operates on the route. | :02:02. | :02:04.
And reassurances have also been given that what we pay shouldn't | :02:05. | :02:08.
change that much. How it'll work is Aurigny will pay Blue Islands for a | :02:09. | :02:12.
set number of seats on each flight, but it'll be up to each airline what | :02:13. | :02:16.
they charge. Blue Islands will then run the service with six or seven | :02:17. | :02:19.
flights each weekday and seven at the weekends. And there was concern | :02:20. | :02:25.
about having a less frequent service. What we have done is | :02:26. | :02:32.
imposed a condition that requires the airlines to take reasonable | :02:33. | :02:36.
efforts to increase capacity if it looks likely to be necessary to meet | :02:37. | :02:40.
demand. Both airlines say it should make the route more financially | :02:41. | :02:44.
viable in the long term. And that work's now under way to make the | :02:45. | :02:47.
first joint Aurigny and Blue Islands flight happen. | :02:48. | :02:52.
A Jersey man has appeared in the Royal Court charged with making | :02:53. | :02:55.
indecent movies and pictures of children. 29`year`old James | :02:56. | :02:57.
Christopher Videgrain admits making 89 indecent movies and nearly 1 500 | :02:58. | :03:00.
pictures of children between 20 7 and March last year. He'll be | :03:01. | :03:03.
sentenced by the Royal Court next month. | :03:04. | :03:10.
A new era began at Jersey Rugby Club this week as the new head coach | :03:11. | :03:14.
Harvey Biljon arrived in the island. His appointment came after the | :03:15. | :03:17.
director of rugby, Ben Harvey, quit last month, after six defeats in a | :03:18. | :03:20.
row for the club. Earlier I asked him how worried he is about the | :03:21. | :03:24.
possibility of coming to a club that might drop out the Championship next | :03:25. | :03:32.
season. To be honest, it is about not looking behind us, it is about | :03:33. | :03:36.
looking forward. I have had the chance to speak to the players this | :03:37. | :03:39.
week and we are going to drive forward. What will you do to put | :03:40. | :03:45.
your stamp on Jersey Rob club? I think it is going to be about | :03:46. | :03:48.
getting the best out of the players `` Jersey Rob the club. We need to | :03:49. | :04:00.
make sure they know what it means to the island. Steve Boden is taking | :04:01. | :04:09.
charge of tomorrow's match. I have given him the responsibility over | :04:10. | :04:12.
the next two weeks because it gives me the opportunity to see how things | :04:13. | :04:17.
are run and to watch the players a little bit more closely than I would | :04:18. | :04:21.
do if I was leading. I think he has done a really good job as interim | :04:22. | :04:25.
head coach. I am comfortable with him continuing over the next two | :04:26. | :04:31.
weeks. There has been some component that urine concern that more | :04:32. | :04:33.
islanders need to get behind the club. `` there has been some concern | :04:34. | :04:42.
that. Do you share that? I think the rugby club needs to reconnect with | :04:43. | :04:52.
the community. I think it is just the first step of many that we will | :04:53. | :04:57.
be making to weaken up `` to reconnect and hopefully will get the | :04:58. | :05:07.
island ofs' support. You know some of the Cornish Pirates. I do not | :05:08. | :05:12.
know whether it makes them more nervous. It will be great to have | :05:13. | :05:16.
guys to go to who have worked with me because they know my | :05:17. | :05:27.
expectations. Harvey Biljon there and a reminder | :05:28. | :05:31.
Jersey Rugby Club take on the Ulster Ravens in the British and Irish Cup. | :05:32. | :05:35.
Kick off is at 3pm at St Peter. Live commentary on BBC Radio Jersey. | :05:36. | :05:38.
Work to improve the pitch at Guernsey's main stadium is being | :05:39. | :05:41.
hailed a success. Last season drainage problems at Footes Lane | :05:42. | :05:44.
Stadium led to a huge backlog of sports fixtures. But so far this | :05:45. | :05:47.
season, the pitch is holding up well. Mike Wilkins reports. | :05:48. | :05:51.
Remember this? Desperate attempts to use a helicopter to try and dry the | :05:52. | :05:54.
waterlogged pitch at Footes Lane last season. A trench was dug every | :05:55. | :05:58.
metre of the 100m pitch, with 1 0 tonnes of gravel and 170 tonnes of | :05:59. | :06:03.
sand used to improve the drainage. And it seems to have worked. It has | :06:04. | :06:11.
cost around ?10,000 to make the improvements to the pitch. Some | :06:12. | :06:14.
would say it is money well spent because this season there has been a | :06:15. | :06:19.
marked improvement compared to last season when so many matches were | :06:20. | :06:24.
called off. There is no water. Looking at the rain we had last | :06:25. | :06:29.
week, the guys were not even muddy. The pictures in perfect condition. | :06:30. | :06:37.
We have had debates with other teams about who has the best pitch. This | :06:38. | :06:42.
pitch is in great condition because of the work that goes into it. For | :06:43. | :06:45.
the man responsible, he's understandably having a better | :06:46. | :06:49.
season this year. For this time of year, to go halfway through the | :06:50. | :06:53.
season and have it in the condition it is in with rugby and football | :06:54. | :07:00.
playing on it, it is nice. It is nice for me because it is not so | :07:01. | :07:03.
much of a worry. Last year was an absolute nightmare. Yes, it is nice | :07:04. | :07:09.
to get the comments we get now. Also, last year, it was not nice to | :07:10. | :07:16.
get those comments! For Shane though, the work continues and he | :07:17. | :07:20.
expects the pitch to be even better in the future. | :07:21. | :07:27.
Armed police became a familiar sight on Jersey's streets during court | :07:28. | :07:30.
appearances of the drugs baron Curtis Warren. But that's just one | :07:31. | :07:33.
type of incident the firearms unit deals with. So, how do the officers | :07:34. | :07:37.
train and how much does it cost Louise Walter reports. | :07:38. | :07:40.
On a wet Tuesday morning in the north of Jersey, police carry out an | :07:41. | :07:44.
armed raid. This is a training exercise regularly undertaken by | :07:45. | :07:52.
specialist firearms officers. But this type of search has been carried | :07:53. | :08:01.
out three times this year for real. The emphasis on training is about | :08:02. | :08:04.
prevention. We have to be in a position, being an island, to be | :08:05. | :08:09.
able to respond appropriately and proportionately to any threat we may | :08:10. | :08:13.
face. The firearms team can be deployed up to 18 times a year. Some | :08:14. | :08:17.
incidents are pre`planned, like this armed presence at court appearances | :08:18. | :08:20.
of the UK drugs baron Curtis Warren. Others are spontaneous. The reality | :08:21. | :08:28.
is that when a live job comes in, you want your training to kick in. | :08:29. | :08:32.
All of the time we spend up here, doing drills, that will come into | :08:33. | :08:37.
play if the live job comes in which obviously we hope it will not. It | :08:38. | :08:41.
costs several thousands each year to train and equip the 30 firearms | :08:42. | :08:45.
officers. But despite the low level of incidents, bosses say Jersey must | :08:46. | :08:53.
be prepared. There is no cavalry coming here to help us out. We must | :08:54. | :08:57.
make sure we are properly equipped and trained to deal with any threat | :08:58. | :09:04.
or harm or threat to the island Back at the training centre, the | :09:05. | :09:08.
hard work continues. These officers know that should a real incident | :09:09. | :09:11.
come in, they're armed with the skills to deal with it. | :09:12. | :09:18.
Before we find out what the weather has in store for us, we've got | :09:19. | :09:22.
something to brighten up your weekend. Take a look at Benny the | :09:23. | :09:26.
dog taking a stroll on the beach at Greve de Lecq in Jersey. The photo | :09:27. | :09:30.
was taken by his owner during the recent bad weather. It's fair to say | :09:31. | :09:33.
the spaniel's taken the nation's media by storm. Not only has he | :09:34. | :09:36.
featured in British tabloids, but he's also had around 2,000 likes and | :09:37. | :09:41.
hundreds of comments on Facebook. He even has his own agent. Whatever | :09:42. | :09:42.
next? ! We are starting to see the cloud | :09:43. | :09:52.
thicken and build. There will be light patchy rain in the forecast | :09:53. | :09:56.
overnight. Tomorrow and the start of the weekend, I mostly dry day. More | :09:57. | :10:02.
sunshine building especially in the afternoon. Becoming cloudy with the | :10:03. | :10:06.
prospect of rainfall Sunday. A weak weather front will bring light | :10:07. | :10:12.
patchy rain by the early hours of tonight. It will clear by Saturday | :10:13. | :10:18.
morning. Tomorrow, plenty in the way of sunshine and light winds as | :10:19. | :10:22.
pressure builds for the time. But the next weather system bringing | :10:23. | :10:27.
further cloud and rain and strong winds comes in late on Sunday. This | :10:28. | :10:31.
evening, the cloud is beginning to build. It will thicken overnight. We | :10:32. | :10:35.
will start to see the light patchy rain making its way towards us by | :10:36. | :10:41.
the early hours. Tomorrow morning, the rain will make its way across | :10:42. | :10:46.
us. Hit and miss. It will clear By tomorrow during the day, much more | :10:47. | :10:49.
in the way of sunshine. Dry conditions. Light winds. The coastal | :10:50. | :10:56.
waters forecast for tomorrow... The winds are westerly. Becoming | :10:57. | :11:05.
variable, 1`3. The times of high water... | :11:06. | :11:22.
The outlook ` tomorrow looks to be the better day of the weekend. Once | :11:23. | :11:32.
the cloud breaks, we will see the back of the light rain. It will feel | :11:33. | :11:39.
quite crisp. The winds will be light. Sunday, the next area of low | :11:40. | :11:43.
pressure heads towards us bringing more cloud and rain. Rather | :11:44. | :11:45.
unsettled for the start of next week. | :11:46. | :11:52.
Coming up in Spotlight, find out why a ferret with an attitude problem is | :11:53. | :11:55.
being sent to an isolation ring because he cannot make friends `` | :11:56. | :12:03.
isolation wing. Thanks for watching. Have a good evening. | :12:04. | :12:10.
are alleged to have taken place last year. He has been released on bail | :12:11. | :12:15.
and will face trial later this year. The largest joint police operation | :12:16. | :12:19.
of its kind in the country to ways in Plymouth overnight, targeting | :12:20. | :12:21.
illegal drug use. 40 officers, along with sniffer dogs from the Navy, | :12:22. | :12:24.
Devon and Cornwall Police and the MoD took part in the patrols in the | :12:25. | :12:28.
city centre. `` took place in Plymouth. Spotlight's Anna Varle | :12:29. | :12:34.
went out with them. Two teams, three sniffer dogs and | :12:35. | :12:41.
undercover CID. Their first stop was the Union Rooms. The officers | :12:42. | :12:44.
secured the site and then the dogs were sent in. There were 150 patrons | :12:45. | :12:49.
within the pub. It was surrounded by officers, secured and the successful | :12:50. | :12:56.
drug search was completed with no arrests. No arrests? None. Is that | :12:57. | :13:03.
surprising? Not surprising. Hopefully that is indicative of the | :13:04. | :13:07.
rest of the night. This was just the first of eight bars and clubs to be | :13:08. | :13:11.
searched. Many of the officers had never worked together before. We | :13:12. | :13:14.
have started working on lot more closely with Devon and Cornwall | :13:15. | :13:18.
Police and our volition chip has flourished. It seemed only right and | :13:19. | :13:22.
proper that we moved to the next scale and escalate things to the | :13:23. | :13:24.
next level and move our operations in and work together. The goal of | :13:25. | :13:29.
the operation was to test whether combining operation of resources on | :13:30. | :13:35.
such a larger scale would work in detecting drug use in personnel and | :13:36. | :13:38.
civilians. The naval police were responsible for arresting those in | :13:39. | :13:43.
the forces. Devon and Cornwall officers were concentrating on | :13:44. | :13:45.
everyone else. The military police have a much tougher set of | :13:46. | :13:49.
regulations around the use of drugs. The tolerance drug policy. For them, | :13:50. | :13:56.
it is a greater level of punishment. The police say that | :13:57. | :13:59.
Plymouth has no greater problem with drug use than any other busy city in | :14:00. | :14:02.
the country. But what they have been doing for the last nine months is | :14:03. | :14:06.
focusing on the higher offences, the drug trafficking offences, not the | :14:07. | :14:10.
straight possession offences that we have seen tonight. That is what this | :14:11. | :14:14.
operation is all about. It is going to kick`start a new way of making | :14:15. | :14:16.
sure premises Mickeys remain drug`free. `` premises like these. | :14:17. | :14:21.
There have been eight was that of detection. One female has been | :14:22. | :14:28.
arrested. On the partnership side, all for half a foot together. It has | :14:29. | :14:32.
gone smoothly and we look forward to further working together in the | :14:33. | :14:39.
future. `` we have worked very well together. | :14:40. | :14:42.
With ever`increasing cuts to the forces, it is hoped that pooling | :14:43. | :14:46.
resources will significantly reduce drug misuse in the city. | :14:47. | :14:50.
Time for the sport and Dave's here with a new bowling sensation in | :14:51. | :14:58.
English cricket. It's about time we had one! | :14:59. | :15:00.
You can say that again but don't. Hello. | :15:01. | :15:02.
Exeter Chiefs, virtually out of rugby's European Heineken Cup, can | :15:03. | :15:05.
still qualify for the Challenge Cup, providing they win their final two | :15:06. | :15:08.
pool ties ` Glasgow Warriors at Sandy Park tomorrow and at Cardiff | :15:09. | :15:11.
Blues in a week's time. Dave Lewis retains his place as | :15:12. | :15:14.
scrum`half after scoring for the Chiefs in last week's narrow loss to | :15:15. | :15:17.
Wasps. Henry Slade partners him at fly`half, while full`back Luke | :15:18. | :15:20.
Arscott captains Exeter. Head coach Rob Baxter makes 11 changes in | :15:21. | :15:25.
total. Well, we're halfway through the | :15:26. | :15:28.
football season and Yeovil Town need to reenergise if they're to avoid an | :15:29. | :15:32.
immediate return to League One. It's a difficult start to the second | :15:33. | :15:35.
half of the Championship campaign for manager Gary Johnson against the | :15:36. | :15:38.
second`placed team Burnley at Huish Park. The big match in League Two is | :15:39. | :15:44.
at Home Park, where two in`form teams meet head on ` Plymouth Argyle | :15:45. | :15:48.
and Southend. Jason Banton is back at Argyle after re`joining them from | :15:49. | :15:52.
Crystal Palace on a permanent basis. The 21`year`old scored six goals | :15:53. | :15:55.
whilst on loan at the Pilgrims last season. Even though we were in a | :15:56. | :16:06.
relegation battle last year, I kind of played with the freedom of just | :16:07. | :16:10.
being there to help. I really enjoyed it last year and hope fully | :16:11. | :16:13.
more of the same. Exeter City have lost three out of | :16:14. | :16:16.
their last four matches in League Two, so will need to stabilise at | :16:17. | :16:19.
Bristol Rovers tomorrow. They've dropped into the lower half of the | :16:20. | :16:23.
table and need another of their impressive away performances to give | :16:24. | :16:26.
them a fillip. It's Chris Hargreaves' first match in charge of | :16:27. | :16:28.
struggling Torquay United, after his appointment this week. It's at AFC | :16:29. | :16:32.
Wimbledon, with the new incumbent admitting he's a little nervous | :16:33. | :16:39.
about his managerial debut. I will be nervous in a good way, a good | :16:40. | :16:43.
way. I am going to walk out there and be really proud that I have got | :16:44. | :16:47.
a team and I am leading the team out and then I want them to look at me | :16:48. | :16:50.
on that side and work for me. England's cricket team may be in | :16:51. | :16:54.
tatters, but could a partnership in the South West help produce the next | :16:55. | :16:57.
fast bowling star? Aadil Rashid has teamed up with former Somerset | :16:58. | :17:00.
cricketer Steffan Jones in a bid to make his dream of bowling at 90mph a | :17:01. | :17:05.
reality. Andy Birkett went to find out more. | :17:06. | :17:17.
He may have hung up his boots but Stephan has now turned his attention | :17:18. | :17:22.
to the next generation. And he has found the perfect people. He has the | :17:23. | :17:27.
most biomechanical efficient action I have seen any youngster. It is | :17:28. | :17:33.
really explosive at the crease. He has a long delivery stride, a | :17:34. | :17:36.
greater delay on the right side of his body. He uses stored energy in | :17:37. | :17:41.
his right side, in his hips. He can bowl genuinely quickly for his age. | :17:42. | :17:49.
Yes just concerned `` he has just turned 16 and has moved from | :17:50. | :17:52.
Birmingham to take advantage of Stephan's expertise. It is not just | :17:53. | :18:00.
cricket, body wise, I have grown up and still maturing so I am learning | :18:01. | :18:06.
every day. His training is tailored for power and speed but his bowling | :18:07. | :18:11.
at 90 mph, is it a realistic ago? Bear I think it is incredibly | :18:12. | :18:19.
realistic. `` with the structure and support I have, I think it is a | :18:20. | :18:24.
great goal to achieve. His natural ability, I believe you can do it. | :18:25. | :18:28.
England are crying out for fast bowlers at the moment. We do not | :18:29. | :18:32.
have a Mitchell Johnson and I think we do have one here at this school. | :18:33. | :18:36.
What is it being likes to get the other end? With your money where | :18:37. | :18:41.
your mouth is! Put your pants on, yet in there and face him. | :18:42. | :18:50.
Sensibly, I declined. Would you? ! We have Mitchell Johnson lined up | :18:51. | :18:54.
for UNIX. Take care! Finally, the Zara Phillips`trained | :18:55. | :18:56.
horse Youhavetoo features in the maiden race at Sunday's point to | :18:57. | :18:59.
point meeting at Black Forest Lodge at Kenton near Exeter. The first | :19:00. | :19:07.
race is at 12 noon. Try to get along. Hopefully it will be a nice | :19:08. | :19:08.
day. Hope so. | :19:09. | :19:10.
A special ceremony took place today in Somerset to honour the efforts of | :19:11. | :19:14.
some of the forgotten heroes of World War Two. Ten Arctic Star | :19:15. | :19:17.
medals were presented to those who helped supply Russia in the Arctic | :19:18. | :19:20.
Convoys, which lasted throughout the war. The Government introduced the | :19:21. | :19:24.
medals in 2012, more than six decades after the conflict ended. | :19:25. | :19:28.
Hamish Marshall was at the ceremony in Yeovilton. | :19:29. | :19:39.
It was 8/2 but a vital job. `` a tough but vital. The Arctic convoys | :19:40. | :19:46.
delivered aid to the Soviet Union during the Second World War, running | :19:47. | :19:50.
the gauntlet of submarine, flight and surface ship attacks. The main | :19:51. | :19:55.
thing was the cold. Not only was it absolutely freezing on the deck with | :19:56. | :20:03.
the wind, but the thought that if my single engine aircraft, if the | :20:04. | :20:06.
engine failed, I would be in the waters of minus 10 Celsius. That is | :20:07. | :20:13.
what frightened me most, I think. If the engine stopped and I had to land | :20:14. | :20:17.
in the water. This is a long serving member of the helicopter test pilot. | :20:18. | :20:26.
John received one of ten Arctic Star medals today. The chance to remember | :20:27. | :20:31.
and to share stories. It was necessary because the Russians | :20:32. | :20:34.
wanted all the ornaments, aircraft, tanks, lorries, everything that a | :20:35. | :20:43.
country needs to keep the services and the army going. Today's fitting, | :20:44. | :20:47.
in an area of a museum which commemorates the battle of the | :20:48. | :20:53.
Atlantic, was very appropriate. The idea of bringing the Bollinger and | :20:54. | :20:58.
having a naval officer give out the medals was a privilege. How nice is | :20:59. | :21:03.
to have the recognition question and clamour it is very nice but I would | :21:04. | :21:09.
like to know why they have get it for so long! To many, the medals | :21:10. | :21:15.
have come too late. Sadly, three of those who should have been here | :21:16. | :21:20.
today have died. The incredible veterans of the | :21:21. | :21:22.
Arctic convoys. A feisty ferret is causing a | :21:23. | :21:25.
kerfuffle at a Plymouth rescue centre. Grumpy Gareth has such a bad | :21:26. | :21:28.
attitude problem nobody wants to adopt him. | :21:29. | :21:32.
He was taken home by new owners but they marched him back to the | :21:33. | :21:35.
isolation wing of Woodside's high security Ferret fun house because he | :21:36. | :21:39.
can't get along with other ferrets. Johnny Rutherford has been to meet | :21:40. | :21:43.
him. He has taken his life into his own | :21:44. | :21:44.
hands! Meet Gareth, a five`year`old white | :21:45. | :21:57.
albino ferret has a bit of an attitude rotten so he gets called | :21:58. | :22:06.
Grant `` Grumpy Gareth. Somebody called him Victor Meldrew the other | :22:07. | :22:12.
day but he is happy. He is misunderstood, not grumpy. He is set | :22:13. | :22:16.
in his ways. He knows what he likes and likes what he knows, I think. | :22:17. | :22:22.
This area is the ferret fun house but unfortunately for Grumpy | :22:23. | :22:26.
Gareth, he is not allowed to play with the others because he is not | :22:27. | :22:31.
very sociable. Instead, he has his own bachelor pad. You're not really | :22:32. | :22:35.
grumpy, are you, Gareth? I think his yellowing meets believe he is. Most | :22:36. | :22:40.
people looking for ferrets are looking for a companion for an | :22:41. | :22:44.
existing ferret so obviously they are sociable, living in families of | :22:45. | :22:50.
more than eight. Him, he is just a little loner, unfortunately. | :22:51. | :22:55.
He did find a home but the people wanted more of an indoor ferret and | :22:56. | :22:58.
Gareth likes the outdoors and was a bit mischievous. Our ferrets good | :22:59. | :23:03.
pets yes. Very sociable, Hannibal, a great | :23:04. | :23:09.
laugh to watch and play. People take them out on harnesses to walk. `` | :23:10. | :23:19.
very sociable, funny. Oh, dear little Gareth! | :23:20. | :23:24.
Misunderstood, not grumpy. He reminds me of someone, just in. | :23:25. | :23:27.
Now, with a look at the weekend weather prospects, | :23:28. | :23:28.
reminds me of someone, just in. Now, with here's Kawser. | :23:29. | :23:36.
More in the way of cloud around this evening and some patchy light rain | :23:37. | :23:39.
making its way across us but it will clear for tomorrow. Tomorrow, the | :23:40. | :23:44.
start of the weekend, dry, bright weather with sunshine, | :23:45. | :23:47.
surprisingly. It will be a pleasant day. Feeling quite cool was later | :23:48. | :23:51.
winds. A crisp, winter day in four before more in the way of cloud and | :23:52. | :23:54.
rain to end the weekend on Sunday. This week weather front is what is | :23:55. | :23:59.
raining the cloud this evening but it will clear through so for | :24:00. | :24:02.
tomorrow, we are looking at much more in the way of sunshine, with | :24:03. | :24:05.
high pressure building for the day. Later winds, as I mentioned, but | :24:06. | :24:09.
look behind me, the next area of low pressure and weather fronts which | :24:10. | :24:13.
will come towards us for Sunday. A brief respite from the stormy | :24:14. | :24:16.
weather. For Sunday, wet, windy weather. Look at how to get isobars | :24:17. | :24:21.
are. It will be strengthening winds throughout the course of the day but | :24:22. | :24:25.
not as much rain as we have seen lately. For this evening, that | :24:26. | :24:29.
light, patchy rain will continue to clear through and by the early | :24:30. | :24:32.
hours, under the clear skies, editors are likely to fall. In towns | :24:33. | :24:37.
and cities, we are looking at around Celsius but it will be cooler in | :24:38. | :24:41.
rural spots. The dot of frost and also from icy stretches. In fact, | :24:42. | :24:46.
there was a Met Office be aware warning for the risk of some ice on | :24:47. | :24:50.
untreated roads and pavements. Take care of your out and about tomorrow. | :24:51. | :24:55.
Tomorrow itself, the cloud will thin and break and we will see sunshine | :24:56. | :24:58.
in the forecast. The winds will be lighter but it is quite chilly. | :24:59. | :25:02.
Temperatures in towns and cities around nine or 10 Celsius at best. | :25:03. | :25:06.
In the sunshine, with those later winds, it will be a nice day as long | :25:07. | :25:12.
as you're up top fairly warmly. For the alpha silly, after any rain | :25:13. | :25:16.
clears away, we're looking at a dry day, a brighter day with sunshine, | :25:17. | :25:20.
like twins but feeling quite cool. `` the Isles of Scilly. | :25:21. | :25:45.
The coastal waters forecast for tomorrow, the winds are | :25:46. | :25:52.
south`westerly, bearing northerly. There will be some occasional rain | :25:53. | :25:55.
to start the day but generally, we are looking at mostly dry conditions | :25:56. | :26:01.
and some occasional moderate visibility but generally quite good. | :26:02. | :26:04.
The outlook then, tomorrow is the better day of the weekend. Some | :26:05. | :26:08.
crisp sunshine, lighter winds, before more in the way of cloud and | :26:09. | :26:11.
rain to come later in the day on Sunday. Rather unsettled conditions | :26:12. | :26:16.
for the start of next week also. Not a significant amount of rain but we | :26:17. | :26:20.
are looking at around 50 millimetres but falling on already saturated | :26:21. | :26:23.
ground and from swollen rivers. `` 15 millilitres. If you are | :26:24. | :26:27.
concerned, this is the flood plain number. Had a great weekend. | :26:28. | :26:33.
Well, at the end of a week in which the forces of nature have dominated | :26:34. | :26:36.
the news yet again, we'll leave tonight with some of the pictures | :26:37. | :26:39.
showing the effects of the storms. There are also many more of your | :26:40. | :26:43.
pictures of the severe weather on the BBC Spotlight Facebook page. | :26:44. | :26:44.
From all of us here, goodnight. A tenth of a second | :26:45. | :28:12.
could be the difference | :28:13. | :28:31. |
