Good evening. Winter storms have been pummelling the Channel Islands

coastlines for a sixth day ` leaving destruction and disruption in their

wake. Guernsey bore the brunt of last night's high tide ` large

stretches of the east coast were off`limits, and businesses and homes

were flooded. Mike Wilkins reports. Roads became rivers as St Peter Port

could only stand and watch as the waves crashed over its deluged

defences. 40`foot waves meant driving conditions were hazardous

particularly along the island's east coast. Of Businesses and homes once

again had to contend with another day of flooding.

Fellows are still plenty of sea water coming over the world here and

this road, another main roads is currently a passable as soon as the

clean`up operation will begin. And this morning, the clean`up

operation was under way at this cafe that juts into the sea. Its kitchen

was knocked out of action when the waves smashed through its windows.

When we first took over ten years ago or so, there was a very bad

storm but we've never had one to such an extent is `` extensive

damage. It's quite worrying really last night, seeing all of the waves.

While businesses, homeowners and even boat owners began to count the

cost of the storm damage, others found the exceptional conditions

somewhat exhilarating. And along with debris washed

onshore, this live dolphin stranded at Pembroke. The GSPCA spent all

afternoon trying to get it back into the water. In Alderney the

breakwater was put through its paces as it did its best to hold back the

forces of nature. The wet and windy weather which the islands have had

to contend with as seen here in Sark is set to continue, but with the

tide receding we might just be over the worst of it.

Well, Jersey has also felt nature's full effect over the last 24 hours.

One man was taken to hospital after a wave crashed over a sea wall at

Gorey Pier, hitting his car and smashing the windscreen. And

properties and vessels along St Aubins Bay also suffered damage and

flooding. Louise Walter reports Another night had yet another

battering by the weather for the island. Roads across Jay`Z were

blocked by fallen scaffolding and around 20 trees. In Saint Oban,

there was flooding and damage as waves crashed over the pier and into

the harbour. Come morning, and the situation wasn't much better. BBC

judges is kept Pamplin went on patrol along with the closed section

of the Esplanade in the West Park. You can see the conditions. Back in

said Tobin, daylight reveals damage to the slipway. It's just coming to

hide `` high tide at St Aubin's Bay and you can feel the force of the

wind and the sea spray coming in. And as the waves rolled in, but I

was anxiously kept watch over their vessels. I'm down here to trap on my

I'm hoping it's still going to be there after this. The bairns have

took the railings out. As the tides retreated, they

revealed damage at Saint Catherine 's. It is thought to repair work to

the islands sea defences could cost up to ?200,000.

Of course, the stormy condition have also affected travel, shipping and

freight services, meaning shortage of supplies around the islands. Emma

Chambers reports on the businesses effected, and what insurance

implications there could be. Stormy weather means empty shelves

in supermarkets across the Channel Islands. Shipping companies

cancelled overnight boats yesterday. So food normally imported in from

the UK didn't arrive, leaving customers having to make alternative

if choices. It has caused a problem. We've got a

lot of fresh product that was on the vessel of this morning. Customers

will notice some fresh items like bread, and poultry.

And it wasn't just food deliveries affected.

Force nine, forced ten. If you get the option of not true, it's

probably safer for the ship and from `` for the car go. It's not a good

idea to transport stuff and safely. But this is about the first

disruption in what's been a really, really bad stormy season. It's

thought the strong waves have only caused today of delays the shipping

but the damage it's left behind to even some of the most unusual places

could be more costly. . Emergency calls will change to insurance

enquiries, storm victims finding out if they're covered.

If you discover damage to your home or car, you need to reported to your

insurance company straightaway. Even if you're not sure how much damage

there is, less than no and they can give you advice. You can expect your

insurance policy to cover damage caused by storm.

Condor services will resume tomorrow, and freight deliveries are

expected for Friday, so the shelves won't be too empty for long.

Hello. After the storm of last night, it was, overnight tonight.

Still breezy initially but winds will drop and it has a quieter day

tomorrow but there is no rain coming up from the South surveillance

rather than wind. A few showers dotted around overnight but most of

those will fade away and it becomes largely dry with lighter winds and a

hint of what's to come as we see more cloud coming from the South.

Five to six degrees minimum temperature. Much of tomorrow wet

and windy weather southeasterly wind slowly becoming south`westerly with

temperatures up to about 10 degrees. We are concerned about what the

winds could overnight. We could have gusts of wind from the

north`westerly direction and then on Friday, a bright day with no wet

weather later in the day. That's all from me.

As you have just heard, the little respite between one storm system and

another and it is that cumulative effect which will cause further

problems in the coming days with risks of flooding and further damage

and destruction. This area of cloud is Saturday's potential stormy

weather. Before that we have clout to the north west of Spain and

Portugal which will come our way tomorrow. That is hot on the heels

of this area of cloud. It is still with us at the moment. The winds are

easing down, but there are still some gusty winds in the central

belt. It is wet and windy in Shetland, but compared to today the

winds will be much lighter. It will be a chilly night into tomorrow

morning with a touch of frost here and there. For Scotland, Northern

Ireland and northern parts of England it should be pleasant enough

with dry and bright weather.
