Good evening welcome to BBC Channel Islands. Tuesday's top stories. . | :00:00. | :00:09.
Rock falls and damaged walls ` why parts of Jersey's coastline may not | :00:10. | :00:17.
be safe after the winter storms We would ask people to take care but we | :00:18. | :00:22.
are due for another storm this coming weekend and we have our 4`7 | :00:23. | :00:27.
teams on stand`by. There will be coastal engineers and a forestry | :00:28. | :00:30.
team on stand`by as well. We are prepared for anything. | :00:31. | :00:32.
Plus doorstep recycling finally comes to Guernsey ` but are | :00:33. | :00:39.
householders ready? Find out why not everyone is happy about the sale of | :00:40. | :00:42.
this historic building. Crumbling cliff paths and sea walls | :00:43. | :00:55.
have led to a warning for walkers to stay away from some coastal walks in | :00:56. | :01:05.
Jersey. A large rock fall at St Catherine's brought down tonnes of | :01:06. | :01:08.
earth yesterday. It's the latest in a number of landslides around the | :01:09. | :01:11.
island caused by the bad weather. Jersey's Transport and Technical | :01:12. | :01:14.
Services have closed the footpath the east coast footpath nearby for | :01:15. | :01:17.
safety. We'll hear from the Minister in charge in a moment, but first | :01:18. | :01:20.
Emma Chambers reports on the ever`growing list of casualties of | :01:21. | :01:23.
the storm season so far. They were built to defend Jersey | :01:24. | :01:26.
against English troops during World War II but now it seems these German | :01:27. | :01:29.
fortifications are losing the battle against nature. Repair work is | :01:30. | :01:32.
underway here at the Royal Jersey Golf Course after high tides and | :01:33. | :01:35.
strong winds caused 20`foot`deep sinkholes along the edge of the | :01:36. | :01:38.
course. And with no proper sea defence structure in place, only an | :01:39. | :01:41.
anti`tank fortification wall, there's also damage to one of the | :01:42. | :01:52.
bunkers. The storm and the strength of the waves got underneath the low | :01:53. | :01:57.
foundations of this wall and as the sea withdrew, it sucked out all of | :01:58. | :02:05.
the Earth, all of the rocks and soil, creating the big hold you can | :02:06. | :02:09.
see. Had it been a purpose beat sea wall, the foundations would have | :02:10. | :02:12.
been deeper and this would not have occurred. And it's not just damage | :02:13. | :02:16.
being caused ` vast amounts of rubbish and waste have been washed | :02:17. | :02:19.
up along the island's beaches. A big beach clear`up is taking place at | :02:20. | :02:25.
L'Etacq this weekend. The beaches have been the worst hit in the last | :02:26. | :02:29.
couple of weeks. We have seen an excessive amount of rubbish being | :02:30. | :02:32.
washed up. It is so important that we clean these beaches up. The | :02:33. | :02:38.
marine life will be affected by this, they can be hurt by rubbish. | :02:39. | :02:41.
And, back on the green, the first hole will remain closed for the next | :02:42. | :02:45.
two to three weeks whilst repairs are completed. TTS have told the | :02:46. | :02:48.
club that they will continue to streghten the sea wall along the | :02:49. | :02:52.
east coast, a popular place not just for golfers but walkers, too. | :02:53. | :02:55.
So when will Jersey's coastline be totally safe? Earlier, I spoke to | :02:56. | :02:58.
the Government minister tasked with clearing up after the storms, Deputy | :02:59. | :03:02.
Kevin Lewis, and asked him how worried islanders should be. | :03:03. | :03:12.
Take care is the message. There have been three or four quite substantial | :03:13. | :03:17.
rock falls on the cliffs, so we would ask people to take care. Where | :03:18. | :03:23.
there has been any slippage, TTS has closed the path nearby. But please | :03:24. | :03:30.
take care. How much do we know about the extent of the damage? Surveying | :03:31. | :03:36.
is being done on a regular basis. The paths are monitored. People | :03:37. | :03:40.
phone in and say there is a problem. The teams go out and monitor the | :03:41. | :03:46.
damage. As I say, they informed the landowners. We doing a lot of | :03:47. | :03:53.
restoration work. We have two relatively OK days, so people are | :03:54. | :03:56.
putting the coping stones out and repairing the slipways where they | :03:57. | :04:03.
can. Have you prepare for the lot of storms? TTS has spent over ?1 | :04:04. | :04:12.
million a year on sea defences, so that has put us in good stead but we | :04:13. | :04:16.
are suffering from exceptional weather at the moment so we have to | :04:17. | :04:21.
deal with it as an when. Are there any lessons that TTS can learn about | :04:22. | :04:24.
spending money on our sea defences? Up some areas particularly one `` | :04:25. | :04:38.
particularly vulnerable? It does take a lot of maintenance and what | :04:39. | :04:45.
can happen is if the sea chips away at the coping stones, it can force a | :04:46. | :04:48.
hole through the cobblestones into the slipway and wash away the grip | :04:49. | :04:53.
behind it. That will cause a cavern to appear, which can collapse later. | :04:54. | :04:59.
Where they are found, we are pouring concrete into the bases to hold | :05:00. | :05:05.
everything together. Until permanent repairs can be affected. At the | :05:06. | :05:13.
moment, we are in excess of ?20 ,000 for damage but we are due for | :05:14. | :05:19.
another storm this coming weekend and we have our 24`7 team on | :05:20. | :05:25.
stand`by, we have coastal engineers and a forestry team on stand`by as | :05:26. | :05:38.
well. We repaired for anything. Talks to resolve the Condor workers' | :05:39. | :05:41.
strike have continued today onboard the Condor Rapide in St Malo. Now in | :05:42. | :05:45.
its sixth day, the strike is over staff wanting to change their | :05:46. | :05:48.
contracts for better pay and working conditions. They say they will be | :05:49. | :05:54.
using alternative operators will be operating via the UK. | :05:55. | :05:58.
A controversial website run by a former Jersey government minister | :05:59. | :06:00.
has been suspended by the internet search giant Google. Stuart Syvret | :06:01. | :06:03.
has posted comments about a number of issues, including child abuse, on | :06:04. | :06:07.
his blogsite for a number of years. But Google says Mr Syvret's website | :06:08. | :06:10.
violates its terms of service. The former Health Minister was jailed | :06:11. | :06:13.
for three months last year for failing to turn up in court after | :06:14. | :06:17.
being asked to take down online allegations about four islanders. | :06:18. | :06:21.
You're watching the BBC in the Channel Islands. Later in Spotlight | :06:22. | :06:24.
with Justin and Natalie ` why this woman's meddling in her brother s | :06:25. | :06:26.
wedding plans landed her in court! Weekend trips to the bring`banks in | :06:27. | :06:37.
Guernsey will be a thing of the past from next month, as most recyclable | :06:38. | :06:40.
items will be picked up from the doorstep instead. And it'll be a | :06:41. | :06:44.
free service, for the first couple of years at least. Fae Clerey | :06:45. | :06:47.
reports. Recycling ` it's coming to your | :06:48. | :06:51.
doorstep next month and the Public Services Department want to make | :06:52. | :07:00.
sure you're prepared. Islanders are being sent information leaflets on | :07:01. | :07:03.
the introduction of kerb`side recycling on the island, as well as | :07:04. | :07:06.
vouchers offering 20% off storage containers like these, which can be | :07:07. | :07:10.
used to separate recyclables at home. The idea is obviously thinking | :07:11. | :07:19.
ahead to the new recycling scheme, people want to organise their | :07:20. | :07:22.
recycling in the home, so the idea is to make that a little bit easier | :07:23. | :07:28.
for people. They may well need to purchase containers to store their | :07:29. | :07:30.
recycling. Kerbside recycling is being rolled out across the island | :07:31. | :07:34.
as part of a two`year pilot scheme with the hope of combating the | :07:35. | :07:37.
age`old problem of waste disposal. Paper, food tins, plastic packaging | :07:38. | :07:40.
and everything else you might take to a bring`bank, aside from glass, | :07:41. | :07:50.
will be collected from your door. It is only two streams, they need paper | :07:51. | :07:54.
and cardboard and then plastic, tins and cans and milk cartons. They need | :07:55. | :08:03.
to sorted into two streams. Nearly half of all islanders currently | :08:04. | :08:06.
recycle but, at the end of last year, the States failed to meets its | :08:07. | :08:10.
recycling target of 50%. But, with the introduction of kerbside | :08:11. | :08:13.
recycling, it's hoped by 2025 7 % of household waste produced on the | :08:14. | :08:20.
island will be recycled. It's a former military police | :08:21. | :08:23.
station in the heart of St Helier that islanders have probably walked | :08:24. | :08:26.
past for years without noticing This is Piquet House in Jersey's | :08:27. | :08:31.
Royal Square. The States own it but now they want to sell it, and not | :08:32. | :08:34.
everyone's happy, as Jen Smith reports. | :08:35. | :08:38.
Piquet House has been owned by the States for centuries. It's a listed | :08:39. | :08:41.
building that's sat unaltered since it was built in 1803. As well as a | :08:42. | :08:45.
place for the military, it's been used as an office for the registrar | :08:46. | :08:48.
of births, marriages and deaths And, more recently, the police have | :08:49. | :08:52.
used it. And if the sale goes ahead, it could become anything from a home | :08:53. | :08:56.
to a hotel. But not everyone's happy about the plans for its future. One | :08:57. | :09:00.
Jersey deputy says it's a piece of Jersey history. | :09:01. | :09:06.
When talking to people, it is clear a number of community organisations | :09:07. | :09:11.
would be keen on using it. The state itself, there are two or three | :09:12. | :09:18.
voluntary groups who would be interested in it. The treasury | :09:19. | :09:20.
ministry has 12 months to check these out, see if it can come up | :09:21. | :09:24.
with a leasing plan for that and if it can, that is the way to go. The | :09:25. | :09:27.
building might have seen better days. But if the States don't agree | :09:28. | :09:31.
with Deputy Young, it won't be up to them to change it. | :09:32. | :09:42.
Jesse's Royal Square looking resplendent in the rain. | :09:43. | :09:44.
Jesse's Royal Square looking resplendent in What do we need for | :09:45. | :09:49.
the coming days? You will certainly need a | :09:50. | :09:52.
waterproof, it is turning cooler again. By Thursday, you will need an | :09:53. | :10:00.
extra layer. I will try to make this as simple as possible. We have | :10:01. | :10:03.
another area of low pressure arriving tomorrow. That will give | :10:04. | :10:08.
severe gale force winds, then rain showers and generally feeling quite | :10:09. | :10:12.
cold. There is the risk of quite a string of winds tomorrow. Up to | :10:13. | :10:18.
around 60 mph gusts. It is from the south`west, so perhaps for those who | :10:19. | :10:21.
have been affected by those at the easterly gales, there is a bit of | :10:22. | :10:25.
shelter in that direction. This area of low pressure is moving quite | :10:26. | :10:28.
quickly across the Atlantic, so expected to arrive with some heavy | :10:29. | :10:33.
rain tomorrow afternoon. Once it goes through, it is a place by | :10:34. | :10:37.
blustery showers. It is coming from a cold direction, around the bottom | :10:38. | :10:41.
end of this live near Iceland. Expect to bridges on Thursday to be | :10:42. | :10:44.
lower. There is the risk of some wintry showers. I could be the odd | :10:45. | :10:52.
thunderstorm and flash of lightning. Showers become more isolated. Quite | :10:53. | :10:55.
a cold night with temperatures down as low as four degrees. A cloudy | :10:56. | :11:05.
start, mostly dried, a view showers and then pick the bounds of rain | :11:06. | :11:10.
coming in later morning, which will sweep through. It will move quite | :11:11. | :11:15.
quickly with quite a lot of rain. It is placed by showers and then it | :11:16. | :11:18.
will turn colder again by the end of the afternoon into the early | :11:19. | :11:25.
evening. Coastal waters forecast. So be a gale force nine, veering and | :11:26. | :11:30.
dropping as the rain band Klinsmann. `` the range bad clears through For | :11:31. | :11:37.
surfers, some very messy surfing conditions. Up to about ten feet by | :11:38. | :11:43.
the time you get into the early evening. The outlook is for us to | :11:44. | :11:51.
see continuing unsettled weather. More wet weather on Friday, the | :11:52. | :11:54.
exact position of the lower on Friday is still uncertain. Then | :11:55. | :12:03.
windy and Shari on Saturday. Thanks to a much. As always, any | :12:04. | :12:07.
travel impact from the weather will be brought to you by BBC Radio | :12:08. | :12:10.
Jersey and radio Guernsey through tomorrow. From us, that is it for | :12:11. | :12:14.
now. Goodbye. council leader said he was excited. | :12:15. | :12:17.
This could go on for months or years. | :12:18. | :12:22.
Homes and families on the Somerset Levels are still suffering from | :12:23. | :12:25.
rising floodwaters tonight. The village of East Lyng has seen water | :12:26. | :12:29.
rise by more than 12 inches in the past few days, and some have now | :12:30. | :12:32.
abandoned their homes. Andrew Plant has this report. | :12:33. | :12:43.
Some of Somerset's most picturesque countryside now under five feet of | :12:44. | :12:52.
water. That is his front door. In the back garden of this home, a | :12:53. | :12:59.
prized possession. It was left standing in the rush to save people | :13:00. | :13:04.
and pets before the water came in. The worst it has been by a long way. | :13:05. | :13:08.
The family that were here have fled. Their neighbour says someone | :13:09. | :13:15.
has already tried to break in. The locks have been damaged. There is | :13:16. | :13:20.
nothing left in there to steal. It is all floating around, it is all | :13:21. | :13:25.
ruined. This was the house over the road on Saturday. Neighbours working | :13:26. | :13:29.
to make a protective wall. This morning, that water is now afoot | :13:30. | :13:37.
deeper. These tiny palms are working flat out, and still the situation is | :13:38. | :13:41.
tense. Everything feels like it could just crumble at any second. | :13:42. | :13:48.
This is part of the plan. Lorries lined up with huge pumps on their | :13:49. | :13:53.
backs. Giant machinery, making sure the Somerset Levels have better | :13:54. | :13:57.
weapons to fight this war on water. This is the king said Schwartz `` | :13:58. | :14:04.
Khin Sedgemore drain. They are building a solid platform which will | :14:05. | :14:09.
house eight of those huge plates we have seen over the last few weeks. | :14:10. | :14:13.
At high tide when the river has trouble flowing out to sea, they | :14:14. | :14:16.
will suck up the water off the Somerset Levels and blasted out into | :14:17. | :14:20.
the river and straight out to sea. That will ease the whole system | :14:21. | :14:27.
here. A couple came in early today because they needed toothbrushes. | :14:28. | :14:30.
They had to leave everything they had. Nearby in Bridgwater, the | :14:31. | :14:39.
relief effort has supplies, the essentials and basics which for many | :14:40. | :14:44.
are now floating in dirty water. The only way to this farm means walking | :14:45. | :14:48.
the plank. With luck, this defence will be the difference between | :14:49. | :14:51.
living at home with water outside every window, or having to escape as | :14:52. | :15:03.
it finally pours inside. Hundreds of birds have been found | :15:04. | :15:06.
dead on beaches across the region following the relentless storms. | :15:07. | :15:09.
Many have become exhausted from the high winds and lack of food. Some | :15:10. | :15:13.
have been coated in oil that has been washed in. Janine Jansen has | :15:14. | :15:17.
been to the West Hatch RSPCA centre in Taunton where rescued birds are | :15:18. | :15:21.
being treated. There are reports that hundreds of birds have been | :15:22. | :15:26.
found dead on our region's beaches. Around ten rescued birds a day are | :15:27. | :15:29.
coming in here to West Hatch, and this is the holding area where many | :15:30. | :15:37.
birds are waiting to be cleaned. There are guillemots, puffins and | :15:38. | :15:40.
razorbills. One of the worst places was Chesil Beach in Dorset, but also | :15:41. | :15:46.
dead and oiled birds have been found in Kingsbridge, Seaton and Lyme Bay. | :15:47. | :15:53.
It has been an exceptional year. It started way before Christmas with | :15:54. | :15:56.
seals coming in. We are full to the annals of grey seals. They are | :15:57. | :16:04.
taking up some of our bird pool space which is causing us real | :16:05. | :16:06.
problems. We are having to juggle animals around just to fit them in | :16:07. | :16:11.
and give them the right conditions as they progressed through the | :16:12. | :16:16.
rehabilitation system. More than 50 birds have so far been brought in to | :16:17. | :16:19.
be cleaned. They are not really bad. They have small amount of oil on | :16:20. | :16:26.
their chest and wings, but it is not that bad. Staff here believe the | :16:27. | :16:32.
ferocity of the waves has whipped up pockets of oil in the sea. Many of | :16:33. | :16:36.
the birds are thin and exhausted. These killer marts are almost ready | :16:37. | :16:43.
to be released. `` guillemots. They have had their final wash. They have | :16:44. | :16:49.
been here for a couple of weeks and we are now doing the final tests on | :16:50. | :16:54.
their waterproofing. They won't be released until the weather improves, | :16:55. | :17:00.
but there is no letup yet. Five more birds came into night and nine more | :17:01. | :17:05.
are due tomorrow. Other news now, and a charity is | :17:06. | :17:09.
claiming people on average wages in the region would need to take home | :17:10. | :17:13.
around ?22,500 more a year, just to keep up with rising house prices. | :17:14. | :17:16.
The report from Shelter reveals the South Hams in Devon is one of the | :17:17. | :17:20.
most expensive areas to live. It comes a day after a group of young | :17:21. | :17:24.
people from South Devon who are priced out of the property market | :17:25. | :17:27.
travelled to Westminster to lobby the housing minister. Anna Varle | :17:28. | :17:35.
reports. Charlotte has been homeless for | :17:36. | :17:38.
months, despite working full`time as a carer. She can't afford rental | :17:39. | :17:42.
prices, never mind getting on the property ladder. I am just under | :17:43. | :17:50.
?600 a month. To rent in Totnes just for a room it is between ?300 ` ?450 | :17:51. | :17:56.
a month, sometimes not including bills. Once you have paid bills and | :17:57. | :18:00.
the necessities of feeding yourself, getting yourself to work, I am left | :18:01. | :18:08.
with nothing. Research from the charity Shelter shows the gap | :18:09. | :18:12.
between wages and house prices continues to grow. It says the South | :18:13. | :18:16.
Hams is the most expensive place to live in the region. You would need | :18:17. | :18:20.
to be earning ?29,000 more than the average salary to buy here. That is | :18:21. | :18:28.
over ?47,500. The cheapest place to buy is in West Devon, where you | :18:29. | :18:33.
would only need to earn ?33,000 to get on the property ladder. In the | :18:34. | :18:37.
late 1990s, a property like this would of course due on average | :18:38. | :18:42.
around five times your salary. In 2012, this figure rose to ten times | :18:43. | :18:49.
your income. Charlotte's situation is not uncommon. Sasha was 15 when | :18:50. | :18:53.
she left home. Being in full`time education, she found she could not | :18:54. | :18:57.
afford rent and food. She is now living with a friend, but the mental | :18:58. | :19:04.
stress has taken its toll. I had extreme sleep paralysis. I had to | :19:05. | :19:08.
just push through, and each night I would have horrible nightmares. | :19:09. | :19:15.
Extreme stress, I would wake up and feel exhausted. Then I would have to | :19:16. | :19:18.
carry on with my education. Keep whooshing through. To highlight the | :19:19. | :19:24.
issue, Charlotte, Sasha and a group of other young people travel to | :19:25. | :19:29.
Westminster yesterday to try and persuade the housing minister to | :19:30. | :19:31.
address the shortage of affordable homes. | :19:32. | :19:35.
The treatment of two whistle`blowers by bosses at Torbay Hospital may | :19:36. | :19:38.
deter staff from speaking out in future, according to a leading NHS | :19:39. | :19:41.
investigator and health unions. However, the news that the | :19:42. | :19:44.
hospital's chief executive has been suspended while her behaviour is | :19:45. | :19:47.
investigated has been welcomed. Sally Mountjoy reports. | :19:48. | :19:59.
Paula has been suspended while the board looks into concerns raised at | :20:00. | :20:03.
an employment tribunal. Two women had accused her of nepotism over the | :20:04. | :20:07.
appointment of her daughter's boyfriend to a job at the hospital. | :20:08. | :20:11.
The tribunal said the hospital trust have tried to cover up the claims | :20:12. | :20:15.
and victimised the women who had blown the whistle. Health unions say | :20:16. | :20:19.
it is right to suspend the Chief Executive while she is under | :20:20. | :20:22.
investigation, but the case will deter NHS staff from flagging up | :20:23. | :20:28.
their worries in future. Many trusts are facing serious financial crises | :20:29. | :20:34.
in the south`west, and staff have got to have the confidence to be | :20:35. | :20:37.
able to point those things out when they arise, and if they see members | :20:38. | :20:42.
of staff elsewhere who have suffered a detriment and have to go to and | :20:43. | :20:46.
implement tribunal, it will not give them the confidence to come forward. | :20:47. | :20:50.
Robert Francis wrote the pivotal report into the care failings that | :20:51. | :20:56.
led to the deaths of hundreds of patients in Stafford. He says what | :20:57. | :21:00.
is happening at Torbay Hospital is an example of oppressive behaviour | :21:01. | :21:03.
that is hugely damaging to the confidence of staff alternating | :21:04. | :21:10.
raising concerns. The South Devon board insists those who speak out | :21:11. | :21:13.
will be treated fairly. The issues here are nothing to do with health | :21:14. | :21:17.
care. The health care here is excellent, but we agree that people | :21:18. | :21:20.
should have the ability to raise concerns without fear, and so we | :21:21. | :21:25.
would encourage any staff with concerns to raise them with us and | :21:26. | :21:29.
they will be treated very fairly when we investigate. Local union | :21:30. | :21:34.
officials say staff have been left appalled and worried by the | :21:35. | :21:40.
whistle`blowing case, and says the trust has much to do to restore | :21:41. | :21:42.
confidence. It's like a plot from EastEnders ` | :21:43. | :21:46.
that's how the case of a Plymouth woman who cancelled her brother's | :21:47. | :21:49.
wedding because she didn't like his fiancee was described in court | :21:50. | :21:52.
today. The woman was jailed for what the judge said was her spiteful and | :21:53. | :22:03.
vindictive conduct. And Duffy arriving at court today, | :22:04. | :22:07.
not keen to discuss the call she made last year, cancelling her | :22:08. | :22:10.
brother David's wedding because she didn't like his choice of bride. The | :22:11. | :22:15.
court heard 20 days before the ceremony was due to take place, she | :22:16. | :22:21.
called Plymouth register office here pretending to be his fiancee. She | :22:22. | :22:26.
cancelled the wedding and then called her brother saying I have | :22:27. | :22:31.
saved you on the divorce. Distressed, the couple alerted | :22:32. | :22:34.
police. Duffy later admitted she wanted to cause upset and | :22:35. | :22:37.
inconvenience to her brother's fiancee. The court heard there were | :22:38. | :22:43.
disagreements over the care of Duffy's mother. The prosecution said | :22:44. | :22:47.
it was like a lift from an East plotline, only this was the sad | :22:48. | :22:51.
reality that confronted the complainers in the case. Duffy | :22:52. | :22:55.
pleaded guilty to harassment without violence, and was sentenced to eight | :22:56. | :22:59.
weeks in jail. She was also given an indefinite restraining order against | :23:00. | :23:04.
Sandra Hardy. As for the couple, they did rebook the ceremony and, | :23:05. | :23:10.
unsurprisingly, Duffy was not on the waiting list. `` guest list. | :23:11. | :23:20.
In tonight's football, there are two important matches for local clubs | :23:21. | :23:22.
with bottom`of`the`table Yeovil take on fellow strugglers Millwall in the | :23:23. | :23:25.
Championship. And, in League Two, Chris Hargreaves' Torquay side face | :23:26. | :23:28.
Northampton, the only team beneath them in the table, after the game | :23:29. | :23:31.
passed a pitch inspection this afternoon. It'll be Chris's first | :23:32. | :23:34.
home game since taking charge five weeks ago. | :23:35. | :23:38.
Fingers crossed that the weather holds for that. Not only have we had | :23:39. | :23:42.
wind and rain to contend with, we have now had some snow in the | :23:43. | :23:49.
region. Yes, good evening. The main threat | :23:50. | :23:54.
for us tomorrow is the wind picking up again. It was lively enough in | :23:55. | :23:58.
the small hours of the morning, but tomorrow there will be even stronger | :23:59. | :24:03.
gusts of wind, possibly up to 70 mph. Inland, 50 or 60 mph, but those | :24:04. | :24:08.
could be damaging gusts of wind. The only saving grace with this band of | :24:09. | :24:12.
rain is that it is moving quite fast. We have just been hearing the | :24:13. | :24:19.
showers that have been falling wintry over the last couple of | :24:20. | :24:22.
hours. There are more to come overnight tonight. We are between | :24:23. | :24:26.
weather systems, but we have tracked in some cold air. The white you can | :24:27. | :24:29.
see on these charts shows you where the snow is likely to be. It is | :24:30. | :24:34.
mostly across Northern Ireland and Scotland, but every now and then, a | :24:35. | :24:37.
wintry showers will come further south, which will be a problem for | :24:38. | :24:41.
the next couple of days. This is the area of low pressure. Mostly rain | :24:42. | :24:48.
coming out of this, but a sharp band of heavy rain sweeping across the | :24:49. | :24:51.
south`west of England. Plenty of ice bars on the chart, which means some | :24:52. | :24:56.
very windy conditions, and it also means some big seas with waves | :24:57. | :24:59.
increasing in height again right through into the evening. On | :25:00. | :25:04.
Thursday, or more wintry showers that will be blown in on that brisk | :25:05. | :25:09.
breeze. Even to quite low levels there is a possibility of wintry | :25:10. | :25:14.
showers to the day on Thursday. Focusing on tonight, already we have | :25:15. | :25:17.
seen some snow, and a few more snow showers to come will stop it is | :25:18. | :25:23.
mainly over higher ground, and by the morning, just slightly less cold | :25:24. | :25:27.
that means most of those showers will turn out to be rain. The winds | :25:28. | :25:32.
will ease for a short while before picking up again tomorrow, and | :25:33. | :25:36.
tomorrow we start the day at around a couple of degrees above freezing. | :25:37. | :25:41.
Slightly miles along the coastline. The band of rain tomorrow will be | :25:42. | :25:45.
quite intense for a short while as it sweeps across the south`west, but | :25:46. | :25:49.
it moves pretty fast and by the afternoon there will be some | :25:50. | :25:53.
sunshine and showers, and then those showers yet again turning | :25:54. | :25:56.
increasingly wintry. It is the strength of wind we are most | :25:57. | :26:00.
concerned about rather than the, and those gusts could be up to 70 mph. | :26:01. | :26:09.
Up to 10 degrees is likely for a short while tomorrow, but once that | :26:10. | :26:12.
main area of rain moves through, templates will start to go back down | :26:13. | :26:17.
again as the cold air returns `` temperatures. Still several flood | :26:18. | :26:21.
warnings in place. Two are severe. There is the phone number for the | :26:22. | :26:28.
Flood agency. Or you can go to their website. | :26:29. | :26:35.
Quite strong gusts of wind for the Isles of Scilly, with rain moving | :26:36. | :26:39.
through quite quickly. A scattering of showers following behind. | :26:40. | :26:57.
Some dangerous waves for our beaches yet again. The winds are likely to | :26:58. | :27:10.
increase on the north coast to give even higher waves, possibly 20 foot | :27:11. | :27:12.
waves crashing on to our shores. Quiet on Thursday, but still with | :27:13. | :27:28.
the risk of some wintry showers. More wet weather returning on | :27:29. | :27:30.
Friday. Have a good evening. | :27:31. | :27:36.
