Good evening, from BBC London News. "We want the person who did this to

give themselves up." The words of the family of Veronica Chango-

Alavrez, who was killed after being hit by a car as she stood at a bus

stop in Streatham, on her way to work. The 31 year old died of

multiple injuries. Police are trying to trace a 27-year-old man

in connection with the incident. Our reporter, Gareth Furby, is at

the scene. The victim's family has gathered

inside the house behind me, the mother's house. The plan was for a

family celebration of Christmas but tonight, Christmas Eve after what

has happened is all about offering each other comfort.

There is little left of where she was waiting, but that can be

rebuilt, unlike the happiness of her family who were preparing to

spend Christmas together. But at about 5:30am on Saturday, Veronica

Chango-Alavrez walked out of her mother's house to catch a bus. The

stop is just outside the door. just heard a big bang like an

explosion. The she was really badly hurt and there was nothing we could

do. In a few miles away along a London Road, evidence of an earlier

crash and one theory is two cars may have been racing. A driver of a

Folkes Fardon was injured here but another driver in an Audi continues

-- Volkswagen. It crashed into the stop and ran off. I think that

person needs to pay for what he did to our family because he ruined our

family. Be only think the family wants is these guys to come -- the

only thing. To come clean and to give themselves up and go to the

police and accept they killed someone. This is one of the last

pictures the family have a Veronica, on the right. It was taking a week

before the crash as she celebrated her mother's birthdays. My memory

is when we were celebrating together, she came here on Friday

to celebrate Christmas. She was going to bring a turkey from the

hotel because they give her one every Christmas.

Tonight, police issued this picture of the man they want to speak to.

Nathan Davis has been linked to the Audi car involved in the collision.

Police also want to talk to anybody who saw this man. If you want -- if

you can help, call for non- emergency line 101. The family are

also saying they will try to get through this, but at this time of

year, it will be exceptionally difficult.

A Met Police officer has been praised, after disarming a man with

a samurai sword who had attacked a woman in North London. The sergeant

was called to Holloway Road in the early hours of this morning. The

22-year-old victim is in a serious condition in hospital.

Hundreds of foreign students claim they are stranded in the capital

this Christmas, after they surrendered their passports to the

UK Border Agency. They are all connected to the London

Metropolitan University, which was stopped from teaching international

students earlier this year. Emma North reports.

Nick Refuerzo had planned to be home with his family in California

for Christmas. We are Filipino so it is all about family. We are

different ages so it is nice to have everybody under one roof.

Nick is one of hundreds caught up after London Metropolitain

University was stopped from teaching foreign students. He is

enrolled at the London Film School, but the school is affiliated to the

Met, so Nick had to send off his passport to apply for a fresh visa

to continue his studies. More than a month later, the passport has

still not come back. I do not understand why it takes so

long, honestly. It is just a matter of sending in the documentation on

times. However, what angers them is not the delay, but the difficulty

claimants have had getting information from the UK Border

Agency. We needed for them to get new visas

which we did quickly, but around November, nobody was answering the

phones. It is not good for business and running international education

in the UK. The UK Border Agency has not supplied individual information

but a spokesperson said it has already sent out passports to

anybody who applied for one before last Thursday. This is of little

use to Nick. Even if his passport does arrive, there are no

affordable flights back home, and none would get him there in time.

Christmas will be spent with others in the same situation, taking

comfort from the fact they are stranded together.

Father Christmas should have a smooth ride tonight, a dry night

with just a few showers in places. Temperatures down to around six,

seven degrees Celsius. Other Christmas morning, a few showers,

mostly light, some heavy, but it should be a dry finish to the day.

Temperatures a bit colder with highs of 8, 9 Celsius. The best
