Prayers have been said today for Father Joseph`Williams, a priest

from Luton who was found dead in a supermarket car park. The body of

the 42`year`old, believed to have been there for three days, was found

slumped over the steering wheel. Prayers were said today for a much

loved parish priest. Father Joe Williams was just 42. This weekend,

he's simply disappeared. He was seen looking up the church on CCTV

cameras. He had not returned for confession on Saturday. It was sad

for his mother and the family and very sad for the parish. It is

really sad for the whole diocese. It seems the priest died in the car

park of this Morrisons store on Friday night. The church had

reported him missing. It was not until Monday evening that somebody

spotted him slumped over the wheel of his car and called the ambulance.

He had been dead for some time. We do tend to look at people if they

are asleep in a car, we do not take any heed. As Christians, we should

make sure people are OK. When I came on Saturday, I thought it was

strange he was not around. He could have gone to friends or whatever.

Just devastation. It is believed he died from natural causes. A police

report is being prepared into his death. A woman in her 30s died in

one of two accidents in Surrey. The incident happened between the

junctions for Chertsey and the A3. Another crash then closed the road

again. Thousands braved the torrential rain earlier today for

the annual New Year's Day Parade. The theme this year was the swinging

'60s and crowds watched on as 17 marching bands and 1,500

cheerleaders took to the 2.2 mile route. Sarah Harris joined the

parade in Central London. South London carnival costumes with

thermals underneath. It was the new year's parade to wrap up warm as

there was not much chance of staying dry. Tony from Surrey has been

coming to cheer as long as he can remember and certainly was not going

to be put off by torrential rain. To encourage everyone. It is a nice

atmosphere. All the visitors who have come to London, there is a nice

Japanese man. He was a student here 15 years ago. He has now brought his

kids to see the parade. Isn't that lovely! 50,000 people from overseas

took part, including this New Orleans Jazz band. Dozens of

volunteers gave up their bank holiday to help organise the event.

Many had done the same at the 2012 Olympics. I did not really know what

would be involved. Everybody got into the atmosphere of it. I got

soaked with the Olympics and I might as well get soaked here as well.

Roads were closed between Piccadilly and Parliament Square. It is an icon

of the 1960s. This year is the 50th anniversary since Paddy Hocker won

the Monte Carlo Rally. It is about coming here and having some fun.

This is the Westminster Council float. It is one of 18 London

boroughs taking part. All competing for a ?50,000 charity cash prize.

They are throwing sweets at the crowds. It seems to be working. More

than 8000 people took part in the parade, which raised thousands of

pounds for charity. A quick look at the weather now with Georgina
