and Thursday. That's it. Now we join the news | :00:00. | :00:00.
teams where you are. Tonight on BBC London: Could Boris | :00:00. | :00:10.
Johnson be heading for a Colmons comeback? The Mayor plays down, but | :00:11. | :00:13.
doesn't rule out standing again as an MP at the next election. | :00:14. | :00:20.
My job is to be the Mayor of the city and I was very lucky... I was | :00:21. | :00:28.
very lucky to get elected in 20 8, even more lucky to get back in in | :00:29. | :00:33.
2012. It is the most wonderful job in British politics. | :00:34. | :00:36.
The sub`letting scam. Fighthng the fraudsters conning councils out of | :00:37. | :00:46.
much`needed homes. A lesson in the capital 's growing population, the | :00:47. | :00:50.
secondary schools building for a bigger future. | :00:51. | :00:55.
Simply out of this world. Wd talk to the London company that helped | :00:56. | :00:58.
Gravity win an Oscar for its visual effects. | :00:59. | :01:10.
Good evening and welcome to the programme. Could a Commons comeback | :01:11. | :01:15.
be on the cards for Boris Johnson? Speculation around the Mayor's | :01:16. | :01:18.
political ambitions have long been the talk of Westminster and now the | :01:19. | :01:21.
ongoing saga is back in the headlines. While insisting he is | :01:22. | :01:24.
fully committed to serving out his term at City Hall, the Mayor today | :01:25. | :01:28.
refused to completely rule out a return to Parliament before the next | :01:29. | :01:33.
election. And as our political correspondent Karl Mercer rdports, | :01:34. | :01:36.
that could pave the way for a challenge to the Tory leadership. | :01:37. | :01:42.
These are delicious! It is national apprentice wdek, air | :01:43. | :01:51.
turning his hands to a new role in the hospitality industry. `` the | :01:52. | :01:55.
Mayor. It is unlikely this hs where his future lies and stop thd papers | :01:56. | :02:00.
have been saying he has his eyes on a bigger prize and talk of rivalries | :02:01. | :02:06.
with other Tories is growing. It is claimed David Cameron and Gdorge | :02:07. | :02:10.
Osborne want him back as an MP ahead of the next election. The mood music | :02:11. | :02:15.
from one of the Chancellor's supporters today was fairly clear. I | :02:16. | :02:20.
think Boris is absolutely wonderful and I Inc as he has proved, he is | :02:21. | :02:27.
pretty good at everything hd has turned his hands to. `` I think | :02:28. | :02:31.
Would you like him on board? Of course, there are so many t`lented | :02:32. | :02:36.
people in the Tory party and he is a brilliant communicator. | :02:37. | :02:40.
This being Mayor a good apprenticeship for being Prhme | :02:41. | :02:44.
Minister? My appetite for power has been cluttered by the experhence of | :02:45. | :02:49.
being Mayor, it is the most wonderful job and I am getthng on | :02:50. | :02:53.
with that. David Cameron could be elected again | :02:54. | :02:58.
in 2015 with you as an MP, will that happen? As I have said so m`ny | :02:59. | :03:03.
times, my job is to be Mayor of the city, I was very lucky... I was very | :03:04. | :03:10.
to get up `` I was very lucky to get elected in 2008, even more lucky in | :03:11. | :03:16.
2012. It is the most wonderful job in British politics. The trtth is, | :03:17. | :03:21.
he is picking his words cardfully. He says he will carry on behng Mayor | :03:22. | :03:26.
until May 20th 16th but he hs being careful not to rule out comhng back | :03:27. | :03:33.
to this place in 2015 `` 2006. This afternoon, he was back in Pdrlman | :03:34. | :03:40.
Dutch Parliament temporarilx talking to MPs. | :03:41. | :03:44.
`` Parliament. I fully expect to see him back in this place in 2015. | :03:45. | :03:49.
There will be plenty of seats for him. If he makes the approach, we do | :03:50. | :03:55.
not yet know, but it is verx much a matter of when and not if. | :03:56. | :04:00.
There are plenty of people who agree. An equal number of hhs | :04:01. | :04:04.
opponents who would rather he stays doing this. | :04:05. | :04:08.
And there is a precedent for the being both an MP and the Maxor of | :04:09. | :04:12.
London. Yes, when Ken Livingstone bdcame | :04:13. | :04:17.
Mayor in 2,000, he was a serving Labour MP and did both roles. The | :04:18. | :04:21.
difference was he was coming away from the national stage and Boris | :04:22. | :04:25.
clearly wants to get back on it He does not want to be seen to have | :04:26. | :04:30.
that naked ambition that cotld alienate those who voted hil in and | :04:31. | :04:35.
large parts of the Tory party and MPs who would have to vote him on to | :04:36. | :04:38.
be Prime Minister if that wdre to follow. The language is | :04:39. | :04:44.
interesting. When you ask that direct question, will you stand in | :04:45. | :04:50.
2015, there is no direct answer A lot of, don't worry, I will still be | :04:51. | :04:53.
Mayor. That is interesting. What do you | :04:54. | :04:58.
think he will do? Not a betting man, but if it was | :04:59. | :05:02.
with your money, I suspect he would go for a Parliamentary seat of the | :05:03. | :05:07.
2015 election. Thank you very much. | :05:08. | :05:11.
Coming up later in the programme: We are with the volunteer floodbusters | :05:12. | :05:14.
bringing help and hope to homeowners in Surrey. | :05:15. | :05:22.
Later this month, Councils `cross London will launch their latest | :05:23. | :05:26.
weapon in the fight against people illegally sub`letting counchl homes. | :05:27. | :05:31.
It is believed tens of thousands of London tenancies are being `bused. | :05:32. | :05:36.
In one instance, a fraudster was discovered subletting more than 20 | :05:37. | :05:42.
properties. Mark Jordan has been out with the investigators. | :05:43. | :05:49.
We forced entry and it was hn poor condition. | :05:50. | :05:53.
They discovered the registered tenant of this flat has rettrned to | :05:54. | :05:58.
China and was renting it out and collecting rent from 6,000 liles | :05:59. | :06:02.
away. Stuart is one hopeful on the council 's 20,000 waiting lhst as | :06:03. | :06:07.
they get to grips with fraud. In Southwark, one of the largest | :06:08. | :06:11.
housing fraud investigations is closing. A man conned the council | :06:12. | :06:16.
out of 23 properties, the epuivalent of a block that size. For hhs | :06:17. | :06:20.
friends, family and those whlling to pay. | :06:21. | :06:26.
This man audaciously took a job in Southwark 's homeless housing | :06:27. | :06:30.
department with not much more than a photocopier and a lot of front, he | :06:31. | :06:36.
created fake identities, fictitious children and he comes the council | :06:37. | :06:41.
out of 23 properties. These are the fake documents. | :06:42. | :06:43.
He got away with it for years until a beefed up fraud team spotted his | :06:44. | :06:50.
will drink are simple technhques. `` his will drink and simpld. These | :06:51. | :06:57.
children do not exist. They would have a priority need | :06:58. | :07:02.
being pregnant. To get higher on the list? | :07:03. | :07:07.
Yes, they would have shown somebody 's income, if they have child | :07:08. | :07:12.
benefit, to confirm their address will stop and he printed thdm off | :07:13. | :07:14.
himself? Absolutely. | :07:15. | :07:18.
He pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office and transparent of | :07:19. | :07:23.
public are pretty. This has been a lesson and ht has | :07:24. | :07:27.
helped us to tackle fraud. Southwark now has scanners to flag | :07:28. | :07:34.
up fake documents. It joins seven other London councils who whll share | :07:35. | :07:38.
data to stop fraudsters getting a home in each borough. | :07:39. | :07:44.
A fraudster `` a fraudster could run half a dozen social homes. The audit | :07:45. | :07:49.
commission estimates English councils have lost control of around | :07:50. | :07:52.
100,000 properties. This repossession means Stu`rt s | :07:53. | :07:58.
family of four now have a home. A lot of genuine people need places. | :07:59. | :08:04.
We live in one room, it is cramped, a lot of arguments, there is Mold, | :08:05. | :08:10.
this is like paradise in colparison. You can see the full report on | :08:11. | :08:14.
housing fraud on Inside Out London tonight at 7:30 here on BBC One | :08:15. | :08:20.
Police say two men who were murdered in Leytonstone at the weekend were | :08:21. | :08:24.
ambushed in their car by a group of hooded attackers, carrying knives. | :08:25. | :08:27.
21`year`old Aaron Carriere `nd 20`year`old Josiah Manful wdre | :08:28. | :08:29.
stabbed several times each hn the early hours of Saturday. Police are | :08:30. | :08:35.
now examining CCTV footage to investigate what triggered the | :08:36. | :08:41.
attack. What happened in the hours, minutes | :08:42. | :08:49.
leading up to this attack? Ht is a key part of my investigation, we | :08:50. | :08:52.
need to know if there was an incident that caused these lurders. | :08:53. | :08:57.
Where did that happen if thdre was one and anyone with information that | :08:58. | :09:01.
nature, come forward and spdak to us. | :09:02. | :09:05.
Nearly 70 per cent of children have got into their chosen secondary | :09:06. | :09:10.
schools for the next academhc year. There has been a small rise in | :09:11. | :09:14.
demand for places is the actte pressure on primary schools begins | :09:15. | :09:20.
to filter up words. Demand on secondary schools is expectdd to | :09:21. | :09:23.
increase over three years, so what schools doing to make space? Marc | :09:24. | :09:28.
Ashdown reports. The secondary school population is | :09:29. | :09:33.
growing faster than ever. The cute primary shortages will be fdlt here. | :09:34. | :09:37.
Ways are being devised to conjure up extra places. | :09:38. | :09:43.
This is our fitness room and a changing room because we do not have | :09:44. | :09:47.
enough space. Pupils here then have to be taken elsewhere for physical | :09:48. | :09:52.
education. The school has outgrown this | :09:53. | :09:55.
Victorian building but they do have a solution. A brand`new ?30 million | :09:56. | :10:01.
building nearby. The school will move then in three months and this | :10:02. | :10:04.
will be the library and learning resource Centre. | :10:05. | :10:09.
`` will move in. Eventually, about 1600 pupils will attend the school | :10:10. | :10:15.
which only has about 500. It will ease the pressure on places here in | :10:16. | :10:19.
Tower Hamlets and local authorities can no longer open new schools, free | :10:20. | :10:23.
schools and academies are expected to plug the gap. | :10:24. | :10:28.
The clock is ticking on a blooming crisis but schools do not spring up | :10:29. | :10:32.
overnight `` looming. This is year three, we have been | :10:33. | :10:41.
able to think ahead and plan. We will be in our new building and | :10:42. | :10:44.
getting used to be a environment and it will gradually build up rather | :10:45. | :10:49.
than suddenly expanding. The government is increasing good | :10:50. | :10:52.
school places by tackling underperformance, opening free | :10:53. | :10:56.
schools and academies and allowing good schools to expand. A s`fe | :10:57. | :11:01.
funding of ?5 billion is behng invested to achieve that. `` they | :11:02. | :11:07.
say. The schools examine evdry inch of space in London, it is rtnning | :11:08. | :11:11.
out fast and the problem is only going to get worse. | :11:12. | :11:14.
And Marc is here now with more details on this year's figures. And | :11:15. | :11:17.
how is the picture looking `cross London? | :11:18. | :11:19.
This year, just over 80,000 pupils applied for a place at a London | :11:20. | :11:23.
secondary school. That is up by nearly five per cent on last year. | :11:24. | :11:27.
The pressure then is starting to shift slowly from primaries to | :11:28. | :11:29.
secondaries, as children move through the school system. Now, on | :11:30. | :11:38.
their application form, pardnts put down up to six preferred schools, | :11:39. | :11:41.
not necessarily in the borotgh where they live. This year, 95% wdre | :11:42. | :11:47.
offered one of their six preferences. Of course, everyone | :11:48. | :11:50.
wants their top pick. This xear the number getting their wish h`s risen | :11:51. | :11:53.
slightly. Across the capital, 6 % got that first choice school. That | :11:54. | :11:58.
figure does vary depending on where you live. In Bexley, 80% of pupils | :11:59. | :12:02.
were allocated their first choice, that is the highest figure hn | :12:03. | :12:05.
London. But in Westminster, it was just 58%. The small number who | :12:06. | :12:11.
haven't been offered any of their choices will be given an | :12:12. | :12:16.
alternative. And, of course, anyone not happy can appeal. | :12:17. | :12:21.
Flooded communities along the Thames are continuing the huge cle`r`up of | :12:22. | :12:29.
their homes and streets. Well, one area badly affected was Sunbury in | :12:30. | :12:32.
Surrey, and over the next fdw weekends, volunteers will bd giving | :12:33. | :12:35.
up their time to try and help repair the damage. Let's find out lore from | :12:36. | :12:44.
Gareth Furby, who is in Sunbury We have had rain here but the river | :12:45. | :12:50.
level is continuing to fall. Various a watermark here showing how high | :12:51. | :12:55.
the river got and you can sde how much it has gone down. But the fact | :12:56. | :13:01.
this is happening means that the damage is now being exposed and many | :13:02. | :13:04.
people here are just glad they have got volunteers prepared to help them | :13:05. | :13:13.
sort it out. Cleaning up in Sunbury, the water | :13:14. | :13:16.
has gone but left behind is the mess and the mock. | :13:17. | :13:22.
That is river silt but it c`n be contaminated with sewage. I will not | :13:23. | :13:26.
bite my nails until I have disinfected them. | :13:27. | :13:31.
Martin was in luck at the wdekend because help was on the way. | :13:32. | :13:36.
I hope you are ready and determined to start cleaning. They are not The | :13:37. | :13:42.
Professionals at locals. Determined to sweep away evhdence of | :13:43. | :13:46.
this flood. A lot of it is sewage from the river | :13:47. | :13:53.
so we are in protective suits and the guys helping are in white suits | :13:54. | :13:56.
for contamination. I can smell the December and. And as | :13:57. | :14:03.
well is that smell, Roger, 67 and a diabetic, is saying goodbye to many | :14:04. | :14:10.
contaminated keepsakes. Photographs and different pdrsonal | :14:11. | :14:14.
stuff. You have to smile. Otherwise, you would be crying. | :14:15. | :14:21.
We can smile together. Jane is a former headteacher and David works | :14:22. | :14:25.
in an embassy. But now they are mocking in and many people `re | :14:26. | :14:30.
grateful. It is nice to help out wherd you | :14:31. | :14:36.
can. Marvellous, I have nevdr seen anything like it, they are like a | :14:37. | :14:42.
team. Then it was on to work on Martin 's house and to say ht made a | :14:43. | :14:49.
difference was an understatdment. I love you guys! | :14:50. | :14:55.
The people here are sent from heaven. Some of the damage will take | :14:56. | :15:00.
more than volunteers to movd and repair, but in Sunbury, teals will | :15:01. | :15:06.
be out and working for at ldast the next three wheel can `` the next | :15:07. | :15:10.
three weekends. Volunteers tell us they helped out | :15:11. | :15:15.
in 12 properties at the weekend but they now think they may be called to | :15:16. | :15:21.
around 150 in the next couple of weeks and they say many of these | :15:22. | :15:23.
people did not have full insurance. Charlton's new multimillion`ire | :15:24. | :15:34.
owners warns he could sell their best players to his other clubs And | :15:35. | :15:38.
we will be looking at the London talent that dominated the bhggest | :15:39. | :15:45.
night for the film industry. The Oscars. | :15:46. | :15:50.
Two former England football managers have dismissed claims by thd former | :15:51. | :15:53.
international defender Sol Campbell that he would have been captain of | :15:54. | :15:59.
the England team ` if he was white. The former Arsenal and Tottdnham | :16:00. | :16:02.
player made the allegations in his new autobiography, as Sara Orchard | :16:03. | :16:06.
reports. This was Sol Campbell's onlx goal in | :16:07. | :16:11.
an England shirt, better known for his strong and physical presence on | :16:12. | :16:15.
the field, he is now making headlines tackling a differdnt | :16:16. | :16:19.
footballing issue, now retired with 73 caps to his name he feels he was | :16:20. | :16:23.
overlooked for the England captaincy because he was black. I still | :16:24. | :16:27.
believe that I was the wrong colour, I think if I was white I thhnk | :16:28. | :16:31.
definitely my chances of behng Captain would have been enh`nced. | :16:32. | :16:36.
Campbell played for England between 1996 and 2007. He did wear the | :16:37. | :16:41.
Captain's armband three timds but believes he could have been skipper | :16:42. | :16:47.
for ten years. My performances for England were fantastic. I h`d the | :16:48. | :16:52.
stature, the character, the charisma, but obviously I dhdn't | :16:53. | :16:57.
have a huge PR machine behind me. However, Campbell's comments | :16:58. | :17:03.
published in his oo biography have been disputed `` autobiography. No | :17:04. | :17:09.
one from the Football Assochation gave me an impression that H should | :17:10. | :17:14.
have ` should not have given the captaincy to him. Beckham bdcame | :17:15. | :17:23.
Captain, a PR strategy, that may not be right but that had nothing to do | :17:24. | :17:30.
with Sol's colour. Sven`Gor`n Eriksson also dismissed the | :17:31. | :17:31.
comments. Staying with football. With the club | :17:32. | :17:45.
currently struggling to avohd relegation ` Charlton fans have now | :17:46. | :17:48.
been warned that their best players could be sold to Belgian side | :17:49. | :17:51.
Standard Liege. That's becatse the new owner, Roland Duchatelet, owns | :17:52. | :17:54.
both clubs, along with several others in Europe. Chris Slegg has | :17:55. | :17:57.
been to south London and Belgium to find out more about the man in | :17:58. | :18:00.
charge at The Valley. From London to Liege. Charlton are part of a | :18:01. | :18:04.
European network of clubs, six takes effectively run by the same man | :18:05. | :18:13.
Roland Duchatelet. How do you choose your priority? Between five children | :18:14. | :18:17.
what is your priority? They are all your priority. That's the rhght | :18:18. | :18:22.
attitude. This is the heart of the network. This is home of St`ndard | :18:23. | :18:32.
Liege, currently top of the Belgian League. What happens at the Valley | :18:33. | :18:36.
could be influenced by what happens here. They have a successful youth | :18:37. | :18:43.
academy, Standard Liege. Thd man who runs it. How do you think your job's | :18:44. | :18:47.
going to be affected by this relationship with Charlton? When a | :18:48. | :18:52.
good player, not good enough for the first team, and he needs sole | :18:53. | :18:58.
experience to get some experience he can do it. He can come also to some | :18:59. | :19:13.
others. Among those protesthng this day supporter Didier. Why wdre you | :19:14. | :19:20.
angry? Roland started selling our best players and brought in players | :19:21. | :19:23.
no one really knew. We belidve he had bought the club to make money. | :19:24. | :19:27.
There were demonstrations and an explosion, the fans revolted. There | :19:28. | :19:31.
were some protests last sumler. Did you learn from that about bding open | :19:32. | :19:37.
and honest with fans? Yes, well that's not always easy and, in fact, | :19:38. | :19:42.
that was a mistake I made bx being too direct and too open probably. | :19:43. | :19:49.
The network is controversial, yet visionary. Charlton fans will hope | :19:50. | :19:57.
it leads to a brighter future. You can see more on that story | :19:58. | :20:02.
tonight in the first of a ndw series of Late Kick Off. | :20:03. | :20:12.
So last night's Oscars was `lso a great evening for British | :20:13. | :20:14.
film`making. And with 12 Ye`rs A Slave and Gravity dominating the | :20:15. | :20:17.
awards it was also a showcase for the capital's with home`grown | :20:18. | :20:19.
talent, as our entertainment correspondent Brenda Emmanus | :20:20. | :20:24.
reports. 12 Years A Slave picked up ` total | :20:25. | :20:29.
of three awards, Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best | :20:30. | :20:36.
Supporting Actress. Steve McQueen became the first black director to | :20:37. | :20:42.
be awarded the academy's top prize. An Oscar win is incredibly hmportant | :20:43. | :20:47.
to anybody, to whatever part of the creative process they're in. For | :20:48. | :20:51.
somebody like obviously Steve McQueen it's a confirmation about | :20:52. | :20:56.
what an important artist he is, an important artist of Britain and the | :20:57. | :21:02.
world. The big winner was Gravity. Shot at Pinewood and Shepperton | :21:03. | :21:06.
Studios it dominated with sdven awards. The success of Gravhty has | :21:07. | :21:10.
been celebrated here in central London by the company that can take | :21:11. | :21:15.
much credit for its success. 80 of the film is animation and those | :21:16. | :21:19.
incredible special effects were created here by Framestore whose | :21:20. | :21:23.
expertise contributed to an amazing night for London film talent. As | :21:24. | :21:28.
well as Best Director for Alfonso Cuaron, who has lived in thd capital | :21:29. | :21:32.
for over 12 years, the spacd epic won almost all of the technhcal | :21:33. | :21:37.
categories including Best Sound Editing, Best Cinematographx and | :21:38. | :21:47.
Best Original Score. Like a ballet, I was foiling the chore `` H was | :21:48. | :21:52.
following the choreography of the characters. The team have already | :21:53. | :21:58.
contributed to the success of the Harry Potter franchise, Avatar. | :21:59. | :22:04.
Their Oscar win builds on their international reputation. It's the | :22:05. | :22:08.
best calling card they could ever have. It's confirmation that they've | :22:09. | :22:13.
got some of the best and brhghtest, not just technicians but visual | :22:14. | :22:19.
artists, people who can help great film`makers like Alfonso Cu`ron | :22:20. | :22:21.
realise their film`making vhsion and that's what it's all about here I | :22:22. | :22:25.
think that's why this city's become so important. So a big night in | :22:26. | :22:30.
Hollywood serves to shine the light on home`grown talent. | :22:31. | :22:35.
Well, as we heard there the London company responsible for the visual | :22:36. | :22:38.
effects of the film Gravity was Framestore. Charles Howell from the | :22:39. | :22:43.
company joins me now. Congratulations to you and `ll | :22:44. | :22:47.
involved. Your colleagues, we have seen them celebrating in LA, can I | :22:48. | :22:51.
ask how are you celebrating here? A few of us were down the road in Soho | :22:52. | :22:56.
in a bar watching the awards with a few glasses of champagne. How did it | :22:57. | :22:59.
feel when you heard the news? It's wonderful. It's a wonderful | :23:00. | :23:04.
acknowledgement of our work over the last three`and`a`half years and our | :23:05. | :23:06.
dedication to the project. H know that you have been involved in the | :23:07. | :23:09.
project right from the beginning, that's more than three`and```half | :23:10. | :23:15.
years. As the visual effects producer you worked closely with the | :23:16. | :23:18.
director Alfonso Cuaron who won the Oscar for Best Director. Wh`t was it | :23:19. | :23:23.
like working with him? He is a very exacting director. Very precise You | :23:24. | :23:28.
can't get anything past him. It was very challenging. He pushed us all | :23:29. | :23:31.
the way when we were tired, when we thought we couldn't give anx more. | :23:32. | :23:35.
He pushed us and pushed us, which was great. I think it shows in the | :23:36. | :23:39.
images. Clearly worth it in the end. When you were making the film or you | :23:40. | :23:44.
saw the finished product did you know then this was going to be a key | :23:45. | :23:50.
point for cinema in terms of technical advancements becatse | :23:51. | :23:53.
that's how it's seen, isn't it? We had a feeling but we weren't | :23:54. | :23:57.
entirely sure how the film would be received but we were hopeful because | :23:58. | :24:02.
we were innovating, creating new techniques, so we hoped it would | :24:03. | :24:07.
have the impact that it's h`d. Aside from the amazing visual effdcts did | :24:08. | :24:12.
you meet Sandra or George Clooney? Briefly on set during the shoot but | :24:13. | :24:16.
didn't have much to do with them, we leave the actors to Alfonso Cuaron. | :24:17. | :24:21.
Is it true that you had an `stronaut on site to explain what really | :24:22. | :24:25.
happens? Yeah, we had an astronaut spend about a week with us to advise | :24:26. | :24:30.
us and look at the script and offer up suggestions so mainly thd film is | :24:31. | :24:35.
scientifically accurate but we are aware we have taken libertids in | :24:36. | :24:39.
certain areas. We will ask xou about those another time! Charles, thank | :24:40. | :24:43.
you very much and congratul`tions to all involved. | :24:44. | :24:50.
Time for a check on the weather How is this week looking? It's looking | :24:51. | :24:56.
like spring. We tipped into spring this weekend and I was just saying | :24:57. | :25:00.
it was until about ten minutes ago a little bit of light still ldft in | :25:01. | :25:03.
the sky so the days are getting longer. Today we did have showers | :25:04. | :25:08.
and rain to start with, frol a low pressure system tracking slowly | :25:09. | :25:11.
eastwards across the south of the UK. Circulating around that were the | :25:12. | :25:14.
showers we had this afternoon. We have had reports of largd | :25:15. | :25:23.
hailstones across some parts of the home Counties, so the skies were | :25:24. | :25:27.
grey at times but those showers are fizzling out now. Through the middle | :25:28. | :25:30.
part of this week there's going to be high pressure building in. We | :25:31. | :25:33.
have seen precious little of that as we have gone through the winter | :25:34. | :25:37.
That will settle the weather down nicely. This evening and we have one | :25:38. | :25:41.
or two showers still around, they're going to fizzle out into thd first | :25:42. | :25:45.
part of the night and it will become dry then. Clear skies. Once the | :25:46. | :25:49.
windfalls lighter we will also have temperatures down to one or two | :25:50. | :25:54.
degrees across the Home Counties. The odd spot below freezing, so | :25:55. | :25:57.
every chance of a touch of frost into the first part of tomorrow But | :25:58. | :26:01.
despite that chilly start there will be brightness first thing tomorrow. | :26:02. | :26:04.
That will continue into the afternoon. Generally, by thd | :26:05. | :26:09.
afternoon more cloud in the sky and may also be isolated shower here or | :26:10. | :26:18.
there. Mid week, Wednesday when high pressure kicks in so lovely sunshine | :26:19. | :26:24.
and temperatures could hit 03 C More cloud Thursday and Friday on | :26:25. | :26:27.
the outlook because we will have weak weather fronts going through. | :26:28. | :26:30.
It's safe to say it's not looking like such a bad week. Almost like | :26:31. | :26:36.
spring. Thank you. The main headlinds: | :26:37. | :26:42.
Russian officials have issudd Ukrainian forces with an ultimatum | :26:43. | :26:46.
to surrender in Crimea. The deadline is tomorrow morning. If thex fail to | :26:47. | :26:49.
comply there'll face what's described as a full`scale mhlitary | :26:50. | :27:01.
assault. In South Africa, the trial of Oscar | :27:02. | :27:04.
Pistorius has begun. The athlete's accused of murdering his girlfriend, | :27:05. | :27:07.
Reeva Steenkamp. He claims he killed his girlfriend by mistake, believing | :27:08. | :27:09.
she was an intruder. The long`running saga of thd Mayor's | :27:10. | :27:12.
future is back in the headlhnes with Boris Johnson refusing to rtle out a | :27:13. | :27:16.
return to Parliament before the next election. | :27:17. | :27:17.
You can see more on the day's stories on our website. I whll be | :27:18. | :27:20.
back later during the 10.00 news. From all of the team here, thank you | :27:21. | :27:23.
for watching and enjoy your evening. Bye. | :27:24. | :27:28. |
