The Duchess of Cambridge is in labour at a London hospital with

her husband by her side. The couple arrived at St Mary's

this morning - a spokesman for Kensington Palace says things are

"progressing as normal". News of a Royal birth will be

formally announced in the grounds of Buckingham Palace with it

announced in public view. Her these are the scenes live as crowds begin

to gather in expectation. Crowds outside the Palace begin to gather

in expectation - as they and the world's media watches and waits for

the birth of the third in line to the throne. I am at St Mary's

Hospital where the media is waiting for news. So far there isn't any.

We'll also be live in York and in Bucklebury where the prospective

grandparents are also awaiting news. And coming up: Every household in

the UK will have internet pornography blocked as David

Cameron tries to protect children from online dangers.

There are unprecedented requirements to teach children

about online safety. It does not mean teaching children about

pornography, it means age appropriate conversation about what

to expect on the internet. The intense heat wave continues

with today forecast to become the hottest of the year so far.

And triumphant cyclist Chris Froome celebrates winning the 100th Tour

de France. Nothing could have prepared me for that. I was

overwhelmed with emotion. I could feel myself welling up.

Later on BBC London: We'll be live at Kensington Palace

as Londoners await the birth of the Royal baby.

Who should run this school? The parents and the politicians fight

it out for the future of this Good afternoon.

The Duchess of Cambridge is in hospital having been admitted this

morning in what Kensington Palace described as the early stages of

labour. The Duchess arrived at St Mary's hospital by car with the

Duke of Cambridge shortly before 6:00am this morning. A palace

spokesman has said things are "progressing normally". The couple

do not know the sex of their first child, who will be third in line to

the throne. Simon McCoy is outside the hospital for us. Simon.

As the temperature in London saws, expect -- speculation is reaching

fever if pitch. Speculation can be heard in many languages, the

world's media gathered outside. At 6 am, a car pulled up at the side

entrance to the hospital and two photographers saw the Duchess of

Cambridge. They thought it was her getting out and going into the

hospital. A couple of hours later, confirmation from Kensington Palace

that it was the Duchess of Cambridge. She is in the early

stages of labour. That is all we know. The next thing we will hear

will be a sign been put up outside Buckingham Palace to announce the

Royal baby. Third in line to the throne. The build-up has made this

a waiting more frustrating. She had gone into the early stages

of labour at Kensington Palace early this morning. Overdue,

perhaps by a week. So at this stage when doctors may have been

considering inducing the birth. Shortly before 6:00am, she arrived

with William to a side entrance at St Mary's Hospital. At 7:30am,

Kensington Palace issued this Within minutes, the media, who have

gathered from around the world where relaying the news. Inside the

private wing, matters are in the hands of the medical team led by

the Royal gynaecologists. They have kept in close touch with the

pregnancy from its anxious the early-stage his last winter, when

the duchess had to be hospitalised suffering from acute pregnancy

sickness. Now she has been admitted to give birth, with the country's

good wishes, which were led by the Prime Minister. It is a very

exciting occasion, and the whole country is excited with them.

outside the hospital, where the crash of media and curious

bystanders has been growing by the minute, there was the inevitable

speculation, a boy or a girl. it is going to be a girl. Quite

excited. I would say a little boy. I still say it is a boy. I still

say it is a boy, because my first- born was a boy and he was late.

Confirmation a baby has been born will come when an official leads

the hospital with an announcement bound for Buckingham Palace. It

will only be when that announcement is put on display, we will know

whether William and Kate have a son or a daughter. Until then, all we

can do is wait. Here we are waiting. News is

something of a premium, do we know any more? Not a lot. Seven and a

bit hours since she went in. Princess Diana had a 16 hour

pregnancy macro to give birth to Prince William. -- labour. Her

parents are not here, they may visit when the baby is born. It is

not clear whether doctors have taken any steps to induce the baby

before she left Kensington Palace. But there is no further news of any

moment. This crowd tells us something significant is about to

happen? We shouldn't lose sight of the fact it is significant. The

child will be third in line to the thrones. And for a hereditary

monarchy, a clear line of succession is important. King or

queen? Whether it is a boy or a girl? I know the Prime Minister

have declared their will that it should be so. It is not law yet and

it is complicated to push it through the Parliament of the 16

countries involved. There is constitutional challenge in Canada.

And they are confident it will become law, but the devil, as ever,

is in the detail. We won't know about anything to do with the birth

until the announcement at Buckingham Palace. So let's go to

Buckingham Palace. Once the baby is born way you are, we won't know the

details whether it is a boy or girl until the official announcement at

Buckingham Palace. Joining me as someone who knows that the workings

of Buckingham Palace, a former press secretary to the Queen.

Charles, the announcement, no Twitter, no Facebook, it is a

traditional way to announce the Royal birth? I think the Palace

wanted that elements of tradition, in this very modern world, when

news travels so fast. They wanted to stick to the traditional way of

announcing these details. What is your sense of the level of interest

in his Royal Berk, and subsequently the amount of preceded Duke and

Duchess will be able to afford their growing family? With 24 hour

news around the world, there is a great deal interest and it is a

minute-by-minute, from when the pregnancy was first announced.

There is this huge interest, it is not just in this country and the

Commonwealth, but throughout the world. A lot of the Republic as

well, and that has to be balanced with the need for privacy. It is

hard for the Royal couple. Once the Duchess believes the hospital, in a

sense, the baby has become a baby the whole world feels they have any

interest and perhaps a share in, in a funny kind of way. Thanks for

read at the hospital, but we know this is where the announcement will

be made. It won't stop the speculation. But

as far as what is going on outside a hospital, the news is, we have

Well it's an exciting day for both sets of prospective grandparents.

In a moment we'll be speaking to our reporter, who's outside the

Middleton family home near Bucklebury in Berkshire. But first,

let's talk to Danny Savage in York, where the Prince of Wales and the

Duchess of Cornwall are visiting the National Railway Museum.

Prince Charles was visiting here today. His first port of call was

at the National Railway Museum in York. He arrived by steam train on

the Royal train. It is another Royal arrival that everybody wanted

him to talk about. People talk to him politely while he was there.

They did not ask any questions about the birth of his first

grandchild. But there are reminders everywhere and he was taken to see

a locomotive called Prince William. A journalist at forward to ask him

a question about the imminent arrival, and the journalist was

told to be quiet. Someone did get a question to him later on. Prince

Charles said he did not have any information. So for him, it is

business as usual as he continues his tour of Yorkshire. After the

railway museum he came by car to York Minster and spends about an

hour looking at restoration projects. He looked very relaxed.

If he is anxious about the arrival of his first grandchild, he is not

showing it. It is business as usual as he continues his official duties

in Yorkshire today. Our reporter is outside Kate's family in Berkshire.

Things hotting up here. The weather is scorching. Of the media have

arrived and the locals are certainly very expectant. I have

spoken to a couple today and they are very excited. They fully expect

this village did play a big part in the baby's life. There have been

reports the Duchess will be bringing the baby here for a six-

week period at some point in the near future. The Duchess, very much

a part of this village. She was born and raised here, educated here.

We know she was at the family home until last week. The family home is

just up the road. The family, we believe is in London. But the

police presence in the village is huge. And there are parts of the

village we cannot go to us. Nonetheless, the mood is very

expectant. Plenty of pubs here and we know that the champagne is on

in the UK will have pornography blocked from their computers unless

they actively choose to receive it. That's under tough new measures

announced by the Prime Minister. David Cameron warned that access to

online pornography is corroding childhood. Critics have said the

plans don't go far enough. Our Political Correspondent, Louise

Stewart reports. David Cameron says as a politician

and a parent, he wants to see action to tackle internet

pornography. He has already said internet companies must block

searches for offensive terms, and is announcing further measures to

restrict access to obscene images. I have a very clear message, you

have a duty to act on this, and it is a moral duty. I do not accept

the argument that some of these companies have used to say,

searches should be allowed because of freedom of speech. The law will

be changed to make possession of pornography depicting rape a

criminal offence in England and Wales. All new customers setting up

a broad band account will have filters banning adult content sites

automatically switched on, unless they disable them. By the end of

2014, all homes connected to the internet will be asked whether

family-friendly filters that block pornography sites and it should be

switched on or off. This action comes after David Cameron met the

families of five year old April Jones and Tia Sharp last week. Both

of them murderers had viewed pornography images online.

Neighbour, who had challenged the Government to bring in new laws,

have accused the Government to cut in funding. Last year Theresa May

cut CEOP, the bits of the plays that deal with child abuse by 10%.

There are 50,000 people in this country downloading child abuse

images, but they were only able to pursue 2000 of those. Industry

sources warned it is not easy to police the Internet. Campaigners

have welcomed the proposals, but say they do not go far enough.

welcome these announcements, but it is just the start, and what needs

to happen next is the governor needs to ensure it is effective

implementation. There is a way to go to reach agreement with internet

service providers. They say they take a zero-tolerance approach to

child sexual abuse imagery that supports freedom online. David

Cameron a wants to see a blacklist and is prepared for a row with the

internet companies about it, if specific in -- specific measures.

On the illegal images, people say this should be more of a focus for

the government, they are criticising the approach of calling on search

engines to do more, they say this is not how people find these images,

they are hidden deep on the net, and they are calling for more resources

for CEOP which has had its budget cut.

The issue of parental controls and how effective they will be?

The question is about the automatic nature of them, which is what the

providers have been reluctant to commit to. They have committed to

contacting every household to give this choice, yes or no, to parental

controls. What the government is celebrating today is the fact that

this will be pre-ticked, as a default. The companies are saying,

no, what is important is the customers have further choices of

exactly what they want to filter. But, a lot of concern from Civil

Liberties campaigners about creeping The longest heatwave for seven years

is expected to reach its peak later, before giving way to thunderstorms

and potential localised flooding. Temperatures dipped slightly over

the weekend, but the forecast is set to rise as high as 33 degrees in

parts of the country, in what could be the hottest day of the year so

How does today compare? It is hot, but the people here in central

London are being really sensible, taking plenty of precautions and

staying in the shade. People are awash with suntan lotion and plenty

health alert period in London, the south-east and east of the country.

as the British effect grows. It couldn't be better, the fact that

it will be in Britain next year, it will be crazy. The sport has grown

in Britain, we have brilliant fans. It will be fantastic to race in

front of them, I am looking forward to it.

GlaxoSmithKline has said some of its executives in China appear to have

What are the latest updates? This was a relatively powerful but

is on the decline, that's according to research from the Children's

Society. The study found that 10% of children have a low sense of

well-being, and that teenagers are increasingly concerned with their

appearance, bullying at school and family conflict. Michael Buchanan

four-fifths said to be flourishing, says the Children's Society. But its

most recent poll of more than 10,000 eight to 17-year-olds shows around

one in ten children have low levels of well-being, with those aged 14-15

having the most concerns. Adults want us to be more

responsible. And more thoughtful. But we want to live in the moment.

When you log on to Facebook, you are fearful of the pictures, and the

words you say. Today's report says the concerns

they've identified are much more than normal teenage angst.

When you look at the reasons why children are feeling the way they

do, there are some very worrying things. They are very concerned

about appearance, not feeling safe. Very concerned about being

discriminated against or demonised by society.

An analysis by the charity looking at how satisfied children are with

their lives, a question that's been asked for nearly two decades, shows

that levels have fallen from their peak in 2008. Parents are therefore

being urged to talk and listen to children, and create loving, stable

family units which, researchers say, are the key to children's happiness

Let's return to our main story: The Duchess of Cambridge is in hospital,

having been admitted this morning in what Kensington Palace described as

the early stages of labour. We can speak to Daniela Relph outside

Buckingham Palace. Where the baby 's arrival will be

formally announced. All the focus and action is at the

hospital at the moment. There is an enormous amount of interest at

Buckingham Palace where the formal announcement will be made. Not quite

as frenzied as the hospital but if we look at the level of media

interest, you get a sense, a huge number of cameras, special mini

studios outside Buckingham Palace with everyone wanting to make sure

they have a proper view of what will be happening. Once the baby is born,

that official announcement on Buckingham Palace headed notepaper

will be brought from the hospital, put up in a frame on an easel just

inside the gates. This is very much as the Duke and Duchess wanted it to

be. They don't want if possible the announcement to be made on Twitter

or Facebook or e-mail, they would like a nod to historical precedent,

it additional way of announcing it on the easel for everybody to see.

Just as Vince William's birth was announced. -- Prince William. It is

a game of waiting, could the announcement be later today or

tomorrow. We will have to let nature Time for a look at the weather.

big change this week, we will see some rain, some heavy with thundery

downpours. High humidity. Temperatures may drop away but it is

still very warm. Quite hot today in the south-east, a warning has been

raised to level three in the south-east. This is the satellite

sequence. Coming from the Atlantic, these bands of cloud moving our way,

a very different day tomorrow. Not completely dry today, the odd shower

across East Anglia, the Midlands, Wales and northern England. Along

the North Sea coast, cloudy and cooler but dry, 18 degrees. As high

as 28 in the Western Highlands. In the North of England, the chance of

showers in the middle of the afternoon. And in the southeastern

corner. Temperatures up to 34 degrees, the hottest day of the year

so far. Some heat to be found in the far south-west. But thicker cloud

will limit those temperatures. Quite hot in Cardiff, further north, a few

clouds around. 20 or so degrees in Belfast. Plenty of heat to be found

across much of the UK. Thundery showers drifting north into the

evening. In the south west, there is the potential for very heavy

weighing four get -- heavy rainfall at dawn. Tomorrow, a different day,

a lot of cloud around, torrential downpours for England and Wales.

That rain falling into baked, hard ground, with localised flooding.

Temperatures, 28 degrees. Tuesday night into Wednesday, some

torrential rain across eastern parts of England, thanks to this weather

front. That will gradually cleared to the North Sea, followed by Sunny

spells on Wednesday, up to 26 more rain into Northern Ireland, that

spreads west to east on Thursday. Some of that could be heavy and
