Good evening. This is BBC Newsline. The headlines this Tuesday evening: | :00:24. | :00:29.
appeals for calm after 22 police officers were injured in the | :00:29. | :00:37.
rioting in Belfast. Fire crews had to respond to hundreds of calls. | :00:37. | :00:44.
Hundreds of Orangemen take part in 12th July parades. | :00:44. | :00:47.
The latest on an investigation into a Derry doctor found to have | :00:47. | :00:50.
carried out a sexually motivated examination on a patient. | :00:50. | :00:53.
And they will be hit and miss again, but some of us will still be | :00:53. | :00:57.
dodging showers tomorrow. Join me later in programme. | :00:57. | :01:00.
There have been appeals for calm tonight as Orangemen, bands and | :01:00. | :01:03.
supporters have their return parade through Ardoyne in north Belfast. | :01:03. | :01:07.
Residents are holding a protest, as they did this morning. In west | :01:07. | :01:09.
Belfast last night, vehicles were hijacked and 22 police officers | :01:09. | :01:14.
injured in attacks by nationalist youths. Attacks on foreign | :01:14. | :01:24.
:01:24. | :01:24. | ||
nationals by loyalists were reported in Ballymena and Portadown. | :01:24. | :01:28.
Traditionally, it is here in Ardoyne in north Belfast where | :01:28. | :01:35.
there is tension on the 12th. But this morning, all that faced the | :01:35. | :01:41.
small number of people parading was a peaceful nationalist protest. | :01:42. | :01:50.
They marched to the beat of a single drum. There was some | :01:50. | :01:53.
shouting and jostling as Republicans tried to leave the area, | :01:53. | :02:00.
but the situation was quickly defused. That was not the case in | :02:00. | :02:08.
west Belfast last night. Just after Falls Road, the police faced up to | :02:08. | :02:18.
:02:18. | :02:20. | ||
200 masked nationalist youths. Water cannons have to be used. | :02:20. | :02:30.
There was concern it would spread to a local hospital site. This | :02:30. | :02:38.
building has just been built. the clean-up got under way this | :02:38. | :02:41.
morning, Sinn Fein said that some of those involved in the disorder | :02:41. | :02:46.
had been from outside of the area and intent on a recreational | :02:46. | :02:52.
rioting. Basically what you had was local people terrified in their own | :02:52. | :03:02.
:03:02. | :03:07. | ||
homes. Devastation has been left in the wake of people from outside of | :03:07. | :03:14.
the area. In Portadown, three homes were attacked in the early hours of | :03:14. | :03:18.
the morning. They are occupied by foreign nationals. It is near to | :03:18. | :03:26.
the site of a loyalist bonfire. One of the residents, from Portugal, | :03:26. | :03:34.
did not want to appear on camera. The you frightened? Yes. I don't | :03:34. | :03:40.
know if they are going to come back. Elsewhere in Portadown there was | :03:41. | :03:45.
also rioting and two police officers were injured. | :03:45. | :03:52.
The Fire Service had one of its busiest 11th nights. It dealt with | :03:52. | :03:59.
over 200 incidents last night, a 65 per cent increase on last year. The | :03:59. | :04:02.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer told me about the pressure his people were | :04:02. | :04:12.
:04:12. | :04:13. | ||
under. We had a number of incidents and and number of larger fires, all | :04:13. | :04:19.
happening at the same time. When at the crews were responding to | :04:19. | :04:26.
Bonfire incidents, other crews from outside Belfast were trying to | :04:26. | :04:34.
dampen down properties where the bonfires threatened to spread. It | :04:34. | :04:41.
is a credit and a tribute to be engaged a work of our officers with | :04:41. | :04:49.
councillors and communities that those fires were put out and they | :04:49. | :04:57.
were allowed to go about their work without incident. How has it | :04:57. | :05:07.
affected young men? -- your men. Any attack on a fire fighter adds a | :05:07. | :05:17.
:05:17. | :05:18. | ||
frightening dimension to what is an already hazardous occupation. Our | :05:18. | :05:19.
and it is disappointing when they are going about their life-saving | :05:19. | :05:24.
operations are attacked unnecessarily. What I would say is | :05:24. | :05:31.
that we do take consolation from the fact that we know this is is an | :05:31. | :05:39.
unrepresented minority engaging in anti-social behaviour. We do enjoy | :05:39. | :05:44.
the support of the vast majority of the public and that has been | :05:44. | :05:47.
reinforced today by elected representatives and community | :05:48. | :05:54.
groups. In his speech marking the 12th, the | :05:54. | :05:56.
Orange Order Grand Master Edward Stevenson has spoken about the | :05:56. | :05:59.
legacy of the Troubles. And he has called on Protestants and Orangemen | :05:59. | :06:02.
to engage with the Historical Enquiries Team in their murder | :06:02. | :06:04.
investigations. We have reporters at parades across Northern Ireland | :06:04. | :06:14.
:06:14. | :06:17. | ||
today. First, let's go to Belfast. The largest of 18 demonstrations | :06:17. | :06:25.
across Northern Ireland. Today, Belfast boasted 70 bans. They were | :06:25. | :06:34.
led off from clan at Circus and 10 o'clock this morning. There was a | :06:34. | :06:40.
heavy downpour during the early part of the parade. Families were | :06:40. | :06:45.
decked out in traditional colours as the parade went by and headed | :06:45. | :06:51.
for the City Centre. Spectators and flags were ready and waiting. | :06:51. | :06:58.
get to see all the pageantry. we love it. We look forward to it | :06:58. | :07:08.
:07:08. | :07:12. | ||
every year. Our children go to integrated schools. It is good fun. | :07:12. | :07:22.
:07:22. | :07:25. | ||
A in the early afternoon the first bands made big to the county | :07:25. | :07:32.
grounds for arrest. We are celebrating the 321st anniversary | :07:32. | :07:42.
:07:42. | :07:48. | ||
of the battle. We hope there are better days ahead. As the locals | :07:48. | :07:52.
relaxed, some overseas visitors were enjoying the parading | :07:52. | :07:58.
experience for the first time. Incredible, just incredible, and | :07:58. | :08:05.
all the children made it to the entrance of the park. Making their | :08:05. | :08:14.
own mark in shocking pink, this band are from Glasgow. They are | :08:14. | :08:23.
known as the Pink Ladies. It gives the young girls something to do and | :08:23. | :08:31.
teaches them about their history and culture. On days like this when | :08:31. | :08:39.
we are here celebrating, it is great for everyone. All of them, | :08:39. | :08:49.
:08:49. | :08:53. | ||
determined to join the parade and have a good time. | :08:53. | :09:03.
:09:03. | :09:05. | ||
Nowhere is that drum more popular than in County Armagh. With many | :09:05. | :09:14.
bans and lodgers, the county Armagh parade claims to be the 12th | :09:14. | :09:24.
:09:24. | :09:25. | ||
biggest gathering of arrangement. We are buried Prout of our operate. | :09:25. | :09:35.
:09:35. | :09:40. | ||
It is eight family-orientated day. -- we are proud of our parade. | :09:40. | :09:48.
many as 500 Orangemen gathered hair in Killylea. There were also junior | :09:48. | :09:58.
:09:58. | :10:03. | ||
The Grand Master Edward Stevenson was here in his new capacity, along | :10:03. | :10:10.
with his deputy, who is from the Limavaday area. About 5,000 people | :10:10. | :10:16.
took part in the parade and double that number lined the streets. | :10:16. | :10:24.
Limavaday District led off. In his speech, the grandmaster said | :10:24. | :10:28.
victims of the Troubles should not be forgiven. He claimed the IRA | :10:28. | :10:38.
:10:38. | :10:40. | ||
carried out a bloody sectarian war and were trying to rewrite history. | :10:40. | :10:44.
When we talk about the ethnic cleansing carried out by the IRA | :10:44. | :10:51.
across this province, or we have a right to be heard. They my eight | :10:51. | :11:01.
:11:01. | :11:02. | ||
not like it -- they may not like it, but the violence of the IRA was | :11:02. | :11:09.
never justified. The grandmaster called for co-operation with the | :11:09. | :11:14.
Historical Enquiries Team so that the wider public could learn what | :11:14. | :11:24.
happened in the Troubles. Thousands turned out to enjoy the | :11:24. | :11:34.
:11:34. | :11:36. | ||
festivities here and watch 70 lodges and the bans. It has been | :11:36. | :11:43.
lovely. The weather has made it. For five districts were represented | :11:43. | :11:53.
:11:53. | :11:57. | ||
today -- five districts of were represented today. | :11:57. | :12:02.
The Orange Order has nothing to do with it, will have nothing to do | :12:02. | :12:07.
with it. It is not in our name, and take that Hearne because that is | :12:07. | :12:17.
:12:17. | :12:25. | ||
Music and festivities were the order of the day. It enjoyed | :12:25. | :12:30.
Flagship at the status this year, welcoming nine district lodges | :12:30. | :12:35.
along with 70 others. They were led by a Randalstown district large | :12:35. | :12:42.
number 22. Some came from further afield. For Antrim town. I have | :12:42. | :12:46.
been in Australia for the last 21 years and we thought we would take | :12:46. | :12:53.
this in with our annual holiday. was celebrated by every generation. | :12:53. | :13:01.
I am 100 years of age. I have seen all the parades. After the long | :13:01. | :13:11.
:13:11. | :13:18. | ||
walk to the field, it was time to Forget yellow man, it was all about | :13:19. | :13:24.
Orange man in Ballycastle. 45 lodges from five districts took | :13:24. | :13:28.
part. The first time it has been held in this seaside town for five | :13:28. | :13:38.
years. Leading the line up, some debating its anniversary. Unveiling | :13:38. | :13:44.
a new Bala -- banner for the occasion. It was a day for everyone. | :13:44. | :13:51.
My message to people today is we bear no malice to anyone. We want | :13:51. | :13:55.
to have a nice family day out and for anyone to come and see the | :13:55. | :13:59.
colourful spectacle. The police had to deal with a security alert at | :13:59. | :14:03.
the start of the parade but it didn't dampen their spirits of | :14:03. | :14:12.
those that enjoyed the pounds and an ice-cream by the sea. | :14:12. | :14:19.
-- band. Eight districts, 60 and 5,000 | :14:19. | :14:25.
spectators came to enjoy it. It is seven years since the demonstration | :14:25. | :14:30.
has been held in this village on the shores of Lough Neagh. It was a | :14:30. | :14:39.
day they had a -- they always remember. His is the first year you | :14:39. | :14:49.
:14:49. | :14:50. | ||
have played the accordion? Yes. I liked it a lot. A well-known | :14:50. | :14:57.
veteran gave the speech. The former Grand Master criticised the | :14:57. | :15:01.
Stormont Executive. It seems to be a cosy number in a Stormont these | :15:01. | :15:07.
days. As everyone relaxed in the field, the sun came out, putting | :15:07. | :15:16.
some people in the mood for a nap. That is a round-up of the day's | :15:16. | :15:20.
events. In a few minutes, city- centre shops have been benefiting | :15:20. | :15:23.
from the crowds that have been attending the Belfast demonstration. | :15:23. | :15:26.
A GP in Londonderry has been suspended for nine months after he | :15:26. | :15:31.
was found to have carried out a sexually motivated examination on a | :15:31. | :15:35.
patient. The General Medical Council says Dr Lee Casey took | :15:35. | :15:38.
advantage of the woman who had gone to his surgery with flu-like | :15:38. | :15:47.
symptoms. Hitachi Saeed -- Natasha Sayee is | :15:47. | :15:51.
in Londonderry now. The woman went to Oakley medical | :15:51. | :15:56.
centre because she wasn't feeling well. That is one of two separate | :15:56. | :16:05.
medical practices that operating out of the same building. She was | :16:05. | :16:09.
examined by Dr Lee Casey and as a result, she made for allegations | :16:09. | :16:14.
against him. The GMC has upheld two of those and concluded that he | :16:14. | :16:18.
placed his hand inside her bra when there was no medical need for him | :16:18. | :16:24.
to do so. The GMC has described this as a gross breach of trust. A | :16:24. | :16:28.
few minutes before we came on air, the panel looking at what action | :16:28. | :16:33.
they can take against Dr Casey, has decided to suspend him for nine | :16:33. | :16:38.
months. That report and said that because of the age of the | :16:38. | :16:43.
misconduct, a lengthy period of suspension is required but because | :16:43. | :16:48.
of the recognition of his exemplary career, it has imposed a period of | :16:48. | :16:51.
nine months rather than a suspension rather than the maximum | :16:51. | :16:57.
of 12 months. Any comment? Dr Casey has denied any wrongdoing and his | :16:57. | :17:01.
family has issued a statement through a low wall newspaper. They | :17:01. | :17:07.
say it has been a distressing time for them. -- they have given a | :17:07. | :17:10.
statement through the local newspaper. In a statement, they | :17:10. | :17:15.
pointed out when the police investigated this in 2008, they | :17:15. | :17:18.
referred it on to the Public Prosecution Service we then decided | :17:18. | :17:24.
not to take it any further. It also said that Dr Casey will be taking | :17:24. | :17:27.
this to court in order to clear his name and his professional | :17:27. | :17:34.
reputation. The BBC has contacted a practice member and they say the | :17:34. | :17:40.
practice supports him 100 %. The home of a Slovakian family has | :17:40. | :17:48.
been targeted with a race it -- racist attack. The house was set | :17:48. | :17:53.
alight and the couple and their baby escaped. It is the second | :17:53. | :17:58.
incident in a week. On Saturday there was a shooting at the home of | :17:58. | :18:00.
a Polish couple. A man has appeared in court charged | :18:00. | :18:06.
with attempted murder. He McCormack from Stanfield place at Belfast is | :18:06. | :18:11.
accused of trying to kill 42-year- old Joe Henry who was stabbed in | :18:11. | :18:15.
the throat 10 days ago. He is critically ill. | :18:15. | :18:19.
Golf's Open Championship is preparing itself for Romania. | :18:20. | :18:26.
Within use of that, he is Gavin. -- Rory mania. | :18:26. | :18:33.
Rory McIlroy Riley arrived at Royal St Georges as the poor way -- as | :18:33. | :18:43.
Arriving for his first tournament since winning the US Open. Rory | :18:43. | :18:53.
:18:53. | :18:57. | ||
McIlroy Roy stepped back into the spotlight. Really proud of year. | :18:57. | :19:00.
am really looking forward to getting on the golf course now. I | :19:00. | :19:07.
am excited about this week. It feels as if I am playing really | :19:07. | :19:14.
well. I am excited to get back in competing. Your arrival has created | :19:14. | :19:20.
an unbelievable buzz. Are you aware of it? I am getting more aware. I | :19:20. | :19:25.
am pretty good at staying oblivious to that sort of stuff. I can | :19:25. | :19:28.
realise there is my attention on me this week than there has been in | :19:28. | :19:33.
the past. It is something I am going to have to learn to deal with. | :19:33. | :19:38.
It is nice. To have the support and expectation is a good thing. I have | :19:38. | :19:44.
to go out and play good golf and live up to that. His successor has | :19:44. | :19:51.
rejuvenated the man who helped mentor him as a teenager. | :19:51. | :19:56.
Definitely I want to get back in there and compete. I have been | :19:56. | :20:01.
trying a bit too hard. It is one of those things, I always enjoy the | :20:01. | :20:08.
open. I have had decent success here. I want to try and get myself | :20:08. | :20:14.
in their this week. Darren Clarke hoping to emulate the major | :20:14. | :20:17.
achievements of Rory and Graham McDowell. All three men are trying | :20:17. | :20:22.
to become the first golfer from Northern Ireland to win at the Open | :20:22. | :20:27.
since 1947. After the story of a gymnast who in | :20:27. | :20:32.
her own way once captured the imagination of the norm at -- the | :20:32. | :20:35.
Northern Ireland public. Holly Murdock was an Olympic contender | :20:35. | :20:42.
but her greatest challenge was her battle with an easing of disorder. | :20:42. | :20:46.
-- eating disorder. This is Holly Murdock delivering | :20:46. | :20:51.
another flawless beam routine, cementing her ranking as Britain's | :20:51. | :20:56.
number one gymnast hundred 1001. Nowadays, a new generation are | :20:56. | :21:00.
benefiting from her experience. Gymnastics was everything to her | :21:00. | :21:06.
but a broken toe delights her an Olympic place in 2000 and a knee | :21:07. | :21:11.
injury ended her a, what hopes. She fought another battle when she | :21:11. | :21:16.
relocated to college in California as anorexia and bulimia took hold | :21:16. | :21:21.
of my life -- her life. For people could see it more clearly than I | :21:21. | :21:29.
could. All the signs were there. I picked myself up and realised there | :21:29. | :21:35.
was something and got help. Everything is centred around shape | :21:35. | :21:45.
:21:45. | :21:46. | ||
and size. I am not going to lie, a got the better of me. Few think | :21:46. | :21:51.
that if you are smaller and thinner, you will be better. -- you think. | :21:51. | :22:01.
:22:01. | :22:04. | ||
Again, it is not true. You find places to get the hell puny and I | :22:04. | :22:11.
feel I am a healthier person for that. -- help that you need. | :22:12. | :22:16.
now helps girls in a similar situation. You may think you are | :22:16. | :22:21.
doing it the right thing bet I can tell you it is not a pretty picture. | :22:21. | :22:29.
It is not worth it in the long run. Holly is back on the right track | :22:29. | :22:36.
and hoping to inspire others to take up the sport. | :22:36. | :22:40.
That is the sport tonight. We will be live from the open tomorrow. | :22:40. | :22:44.
In keeping with the trend that started on 12th July, the big | :22:44. | :22:48.
shopping centres in some of the major stores in Belfast city centre | :22:48. | :22:52.
decided to open for a few hours this afternoon. They didn't have | :22:52. | :22:56.
the usual trade but many people took the opportunity to spend a few | :22:56. | :23:06.
:23:06. | :23:13. | ||
pounds. These guys with colourful attire | :23:13. | :23:19.
entertained the crowds. Not what you might expect but efforts to get | :23:19. | :23:23.
tales in the city centre ringing. For on average people come in and | :23:23. | :23:28.
see a street show and spend 30 in the city. There is a benefit to the | :23:28. | :23:33.
shops and traders in the centre. This is the third year the shops | :23:33. | :23:38.
have opened. Isn't it -- business isn't quite beaming but the retail | :23:38. | :23:43.
sector says it is improving. It is better than last year and the year | :23:43. | :23:48.
before. We are getting there and they still a lot of hard work to do. | :23:48. | :23:52.
We have to create the conditions of confidence so all retailers can | :23:52. | :24:00.
open up on this day and they don't lose trade and town. -- time. | :24:00. | :24:09.
came up for the day to have a look around. You have a couple of bags | :24:09. | :24:15.
their. It has been lovely shopping today. It hasn't been too busy put | :24:15. | :24:23.
everybody in the stores are lovely. Everybody is smiling. Expected more | :24:23. | :24:28.
people about. I expected more as well. It is good, the shops should | :24:28. | :24:33.
be open. Many have kept the shutters down but in today's | :24:33. | :24:36.
competitive environment, an increasing number are opening to | :24:36. | :24:42.
catch that trade. We face lots of competition. It is a tough time in | :24:42. | :24:46.
the High Street. We are seeing competition coming from the | :24:46. | :24:49.
internet and it grows year-on-year. Retailers have to use every | :24:49. | :24:54.
opportunity to capture the customer. Days like today are an example of | :24:54. | :25:04.

Forecasting the daytime showers is a bit tricky at the members. Some | :25:15. | :25:25.

places avoided them and stayed dry. There were showers around and they | :25:25. | :25:29.
developed further inland. There is still a few of those around this | :25:29. | :25:36.
evening but in between, still good gaps and fairly pleasant and try. | :25:36. | :25:45.
Imagine quite a fine evening along the north coast. Through the night, | :25:45. | :25:52.
clearer skies move inland. It is a little bit murky in some spots. Not | :25:52. | :25:59.
too bad around the coasts. Temperatures around ten Celsius. | :25:59. | :26:07.
Into tomorrow, we are going to get a mixture of sunshine and showers. | :26:07. | :26:11.
The morning it probably is the brightest part of the day for some | :26:11. | :26:20.
parts. Those showers will move inland towards County Antrim and | :26:20. | :26:25.
Belfast and drifting in land throughout the afternoon. They are | :26:25. | :26:31.
hit and miss. Some places will avoid them altogether. We have some | :26:31. | :26:41.
bright spells in between and they will be not a long lasting. | :26:41. | :26:46.
Temperatures are still going to be warm. Tomorrow night, we do it all | :26:46. | :26:52.
over again and we have a dry night. Lows of ten Celsius. A bright night | :26:52. | :26:55.
on Thursday before showers develop through the course of the day. We | :26:55. | :27:03.
have to be prepared for the odd shower over the next couple of days. | :27:03. | :27:08.
More dry and wet weather by Friday. More dry and wet weather by Friday. | :27:08. | :27:11.
It does look unsettled as we head into the weekend. | :27:11. | :27:15.
