Good evening and welcome to BBC Newsline. A young man is critically | :00:00. | :00:16.
ill in hospital after he was assaulted in the Antrim Road area of | :00:17. | :00:20.
North Belfast. He was one of a group of four men attacked. Two men - one | :00:21. | :00:25.
aged 31, the other 23 - have been arrested in connection with the | :00:26. | :00:29.
assault. Helen Jones reports. This was what people living on the Antrim | :00:30. | :00:35.
Road woke up to this morning - a sizeable section of the road closed | :00:36. | :00:38.
A crime scene and attention to detail is the key in finding out | :00:39. | :00:42.
what happened here in the early hours of this morning. An assault | :00:43. | :00:48.
which has left a man seriously ill in hospital. Investigation focussed | :00:49. | :00:52.
here. There was an argument over what exactly isn't clear, but what | :00:53. | :00:58.
is clear four men were assaulted, one of whom, a 24-year-old is | :00:59. | :01:04.
seriously ill in hospital with a head injury. The flat here is | :01:05. | :01:07.
connected in some way. The motivation is under investigation. | :01:08. | :01:12.
Two men are being questioned by the police. In this case, anybody that | :01:13. | :01:16.
has you know difficulties, the police should be the police that | :01:17. | :01:21.
they go to sort it out. Nobody should take the law into their own | :01:22. | :01:26.
hands. This is the type of mob rule law that is not acceptable. It must | :01:27. | :01:31.
be through the police. The Antrim Road has sips re-opened. -- since | :01:32. | :01:36.
reopened. But the investigation into the assault continues. A woman in | :01:37. | :01:43.
her 80s had to receive medical treatment at her home in Lurgan | :01:44. | :01:46.
after she was assaulted by a burglar. The woman disturbed the | :01:47. | :01:49.
intruder in the house at May Street at about a quarter to six this | :01:50. | :01:52.
morning. The pensioner and another elderly woman who live in the house | :01:53. | :01:56.
are said to have been badly shaken by the ordeal. It's believed the man | :01:57. | :02:03.
fled empty-handed. A woman has been pulled from her car during a | :02:04. | :02:06.
hijacking in west Belfast. It happened in Hawthorne Street shortly | :02:07. | :02:10.
before 9 o'clock last night. The thief made off in the car which is | :02:11. | :02:14.
thought to have been driven past Queen's University later the same | :02:15. | :02:17.
night. The woman was not injured, but is said to be shaken up by the | :02:18. | :02:22.
incident. The Assembly is expected to discuss the loss of more than 200 | :02:23. | :02:26.
jobs at KPL Contracts in Dungiven when it meets on Monday. Yesterday, | :02:27. | :02:29.
administrators at the company, which carries out work for utility firms | :02:30. | :02:33.
like BT, NIE and NI Water, said efforts to save the business had | :02:34. | :02:36.
been unsuccessful. Local MLA Cathal O Hoisin says it's a massive blow | :02:37. | :02:48.
for the area. I hope to bring it to the Assembly to outline this is a | :02:49. | :02:55.
company that has delivered for the Department of Regional Development | :02:56. | :02:59.
and all the utility companies across the north. The expertise, the man | :03:00. | :03:03.
power, is all on the ground and how much of that might cost the wider | :03:04. | :03:09.
economy should we have to outsource that or go across the water for it. | :03:10. | :03:15.
Onto rugby and Ireland's dreams of a Grand Slam and Triple Crown in the | :03:16. | :03:18.
Six Nations were dashed yesterday, as England came from behind to win | :03:19. | :03:21.
by 13-10 in a closely contested match at Twickenham. However, | :03:22. | :03:24.
despite the defeat, Ireland sit top of the table on points difference | :03:25. | :03:27.
and can still win the Championship. Thomas Niblock reports from London. | :03:28. | :03:36.
After an absorbing but uninspiring fist half, the winning and losing of | :03:37. | :03:43.
the game came after the interval. Carney broke through to give Ireland | :03:44. | :03:50.
the lead. Johnny Sexton converted and scored this penalty to give | :03:51. | :03:55.
Ireland a 10-3 advantage. But the final half hour belonged to England. | :03:56. | :03:59.
Farrell reducing the gap. Before the moment that changed everything. | :04:00. | :04:07.
England broke, Browne carried, before Care had all the time in the | :04:08. | :04:12.
world to score England's try. Farrell converted, Ireland couldn't | :04:13. | :04:18.
respond and England held on for a famous win. Unfortunately days like | :04:19. | :04:25.
this are the ones you learn the most. We will probably have a few | :04:26. | :04:33.
tough days. But that's part of it and I think the guys will be looking | :04:34. | :04:39.
forward to playing against Italy and try Ogg to put in a good -- trying | :04:40. | :04:45.
to put in a good performance. So the weekend ends in disappointment and | :04:46. | :04:49.
hopes for a Grand Slam have gone so, too the Triple Crown, but hopes for | :04:50. | :04:53.
a Six Nations Championship are still alive, but only just. And in the | :04:54. | :05:01.
Rabo Direct Pro12 League Ulster had a narrow victory in Italy away to | :05:02. | :05:05.
Benetton Treviso, winning by 14-12. Darren Cave sprinted in to open the | :05:06. | :05:09.
scoring for Ulster, before Robbie Diack charged over for Ulster's | :05:10. | :05:14.
second try. However, a fourth penalty from Mat Berquist closed the | :05:15. | :05:18.
gap to just two points at the final whistle. And in football, the | :05:19. | :05:24.
qualifying groups have been drawn for the 2016 European Championships | :05:25. | :05:27.
in France. Northern Ireland are in Group F and will face Greece, the | :05:28. | :05:30.
Faroe Islands, Finland, Romania and Hungary. Meanwhile the Republic of | :05:31. | :05:33.
Ireland will face Scotland in one of the toughest groups, which also | :05:34. | :05:35.
includes Germany, Poland, Georgia and Gibraltar. And finally onto the | :05:36. | :05:45.
weather forecast for the week ahead, and here's Barra Best. It has been a | :05:46. | :05:51.
great end to weekend, with plenty of sunny weather. There is more of that | :05:52. | :05:56.
to come tomorrow. Tonight we will hold on to a few scattered showers, | :05:57. | :06:02.
most places though will stay dry and temperatures typically in towns and | :06:03. | :06:06.
cities around four degrees. So not too chillaway start to Monday. But | :06:07. | :06:11.
like today there will be plenty of dry and bright weather and some | :06:12. | :06:15.
sunshine. It won't be dry all day. There will be a few showers at | :06:16. | :06:21.
first, before the rain comes later on. It is a fine day right across | :06:22. | :06:26.
Britain tomorrow. Some rain for some central and eastern areas. But | :06:27. | :06:30.
generally dry and bright for many areas. Through the day we have this | :06:31. | :06:34.
next weather system pushing up across Ireland, bringing wind and | :06:35. | :06:39.
rain. That rain will reach Northern Ireland later in the afternoon and | :06:40. | :06:43.
it will stay us with tomorrow evening. So a much more unsettled | :06:44. | :06:48.
end today. That low pressure will stay with us on Tuesday. There will | :06:49. | :06:53.
be further scattered showers. Also some dry weather at times. Maybe the | :06:54. | :06:58.
odd hint of brighter weather. Temperatures on Tuesday seven or | :06:59. | :07:03.
eight degrees. For the time being Wednesday is shaping up to be the | :07:04. | :07:08.
better day of the week after Monday. Drier and brighter. After Wednesday, | :07:09. | :07:13.
more low pressure is on the way and we can expect it to turn wet and | :07:14. | :07:18.
windy again. And that's it for the moment. Our next BBC Newsline | :07:19. | :07:21.
bulletin is at 10.15 this evening. Until then you can keep up to date | :07:22. | :07:25.
