Good evening. A young man is critically ill in

hospital after he was assaulted in the Antrim Road area of North

Belfast. He was one of a group of four men attacked. Two men - one

aged 31, the other 23 - have been arrested in connection with the

assault. Helen Jones reports. This was what people living on the

Antrim Road woke up to this morning, a sizeable section of the

road cordoned off. A cry -- crime scene, and attention to detail is

the key to finding out what happened here this morning. An assault which

has left a man seriously ill in hospital. There was an argument,

over what exactly isn't clear, but what is clear is that four men were

assaulted, one of him, a 24-year-old, is seriously ill in

hospital with a head injury. The motivation behind the attack is

under investigation. Two men are being questioned by the police. In

this case, anybody that has difficulties, the police should be

the people they should go to to sort it out. Nobody should take the law

into their own hands. This mob law is not acceptable, it has to be

through the police. The Antrim Road has since reopened. Investigation

into the salt though continues. A woman in her 80s had to receive

medical treatment at her home in Lurgan after she was assaulted by a

burglar. The woman disturbed the intruder in the house at May Street

at about a quarter to six this morning. It's believed the man fled

empty-handed. A civil servant formerly involved in

the Northern Ireland peace process has witnessed the Basque separatist

group ETA decommission a small cache of weapons. Chris McCabe, who is

from Belfast, confirmed to a Spanish judge that militants had handed in

guns and explosives. It's the first step for ETA in a move towards

disarmament. Ireland's dreams of a grand slam and

triple crown in the Six Nations were - yesterday as England came from

behind to win by 13 points to ten in a closely contested match at

Twickenham. However, despite the defeat, Ireland sit top of the table

on points difference and can still win the championship. Thomas Niblock

reports. After an absorbing but pretty

uninspiring first half, the winning and losing of this game came after

the interval. Trailing 3-0, Rob Carney broke free to give Ireland

be. This penalty was then scored to give Ireland a 10-3 advantage. But

the final 30 minutes belonged to England. This moment changed

everything. England broke. Mike Brown, outstanding all afternoon,

carried, living all the time in the afternoon for England to try.

Ireland could not respond and England held on for a famous win.

Unfortunately days like this are probably the ones where you learn

the most. We will have a tough few days in the video room. That's part

of it. The guys will really be looking forward to playing again and

trying to put in a good performance. A weekend of promise, so much for

Ireland, ultimately ends in disappointment. Aspirations for a

Grand Slam have gone. But hopes for a potential six Nations championship

are still alive -- only just. And in the Rabo direct pro 12

league, Ulster had a narrow victory in Italy away to Benetton Treviso

winning by 14 points to 12. Darren Cave sprinted in to open the scoring

for Ulster, before Robbie Diack charged over for Ulster's second

try. However, a fourth penalty from Mat Berquist closed the gap to just

two points at the final whistle. Now, the weather. We did manage to

enjoy some sunshine today. Don't worry, there is more to come on

Monday before it turns more unsettled through the week. This

evening and tonight there will be a handful of showers out there. Most

places will have a dry night. Temperatures typically about four or

five degrees in the cities, colder in countryside areas. Monday, much

like today Gash dry and bright weather with good spells of sunshine

to enjoy as well. The weather will be cloudy but brightening up, and

the sunshine will make an appearance as well. There will be a few showers

before it becomes more unsettled, so do to -- so do try to enjoy the

weather if you are out and about. Across Britain, a fine winter 's day

for many places. A bit more unsettled in central areas, but that

clears and many areas enjoy dry weather. Elsewhere we have this area

of low pressure bridging in from the Allan Taylor, moving its way up

across the Republic during the day, bringing with it rain. Rain will

reach Northern Ireland by the end of the afternoon so try to enjoy the

dry weather before then. Temperatures just above average for

this time of year at nine or 10 degrees. The low pressure moves in

tomorrow and it will push across everywhere bringing spells of rain

and staying with us into Tuesday as well. So if you are out and about on

Tuesday keep the umbrella handy. There will be a scattering of

showers. Not all the time, and they will turn dry before nightfall will

stop temperatures back to what they should be that this time of year. So

a drier picture by the end of Tuesday. That sets us up nicely for

Wednesday. We are expecting a largely dry day with spells of

sunshine. Maybe one or two showers on the north coast. Enjoy it,

because unsettled weather is back for Thursday and Friday.
