you are. Good afternoon. A baby's in a

critical condition in intensive care in hospital after an incident in

East Belfast yesterday. It's understood the infant's mother has

been arrested and is being questioned by the police.

Forensic officers have been examining a house in Connsbrook

Avenue. Police are treating pipe bomb

attacks on two houses in the Waterside area of Londonderry early

this morning as hate crimes. One device exploded outside a house in

Lapwing Way, another at Lincoln Court, where damage was caused to

the front door. Both houses were occupied at the time, but no-one was

injured. Detectives say they believe the two incidents are linked. It is

a worrying factor for those living in the areas. People are concerned

that this is the beginning of something between the two areas. I

do not think that is the case but we're not 100% sure. Police are

following different lines of inquiry is to see if they can ascertain what

the situation is about. The former head of the Catholic

Church's child protection body is considering taking legal action

against the Bishop of Down and Connor, Noel Treanor. Ian Elliott is

said to be unhappy at the publication last December of a major

review into safeguarding practice in the diocese, saying the report did

not accurately reflect the child protection situation in Down and

Connor. Mr Elliott left his role as chief Executive of the National

Board for Safeguarding Children last July. In a statement last night,

Bishop Treanor said the diocese was fully open and transparent and the

report was undertaken and prepared by the National Board team,

including independent professional reviewers.

The Transport Minister, Danny Kennedy, says Northern Ireland will

have its own cycling revolution in the years ahead. He's just returned

from a three-day fact-finding visit to Denmark and Sweden. Andy West

reports. Danny Kennedy says Belfast needs to

see more of this to help lower congestion and improve the health of

the people. During his tour he witnessed the continental love

affair with and respect for the bicycle. I have been inspired by the

examples I have seen and Copenhagen and Malmo in Sudan. I think the

creation of safe cycling will encourage people to use cycling as a

way of life. -- Sweden. At the moment, there are a number of danger

spots around the city of Belfast. The danger spots like this beside

the Albert Bridge. A cycle lane next then with the bustling and during

rush hour there is dense traffic. Good better provision make things

better here for cyclists or is there a risk that it could make congestion

worse? I think we can take steps to improve using the roads by both

cyclists and motorists and to make cycling safer and so that there is

no threat to cyclists or motorists. They are some safe and popular

cycling routes already in the city. These rates are very good. You can

go from this barn went to the Titanic Quarter and beyond. It is

smooth and safe especially for a young child. It is really good and

smooth. He could well be driving by the time the cycling revolution

takes effect. The Department for regional development says it will

take years not months to make the Hall of Belfast Trulli cycle

friendly. Rugby, and as you may have seen,

the weekend, here's Angie Phillips. Good afternoon, technically it has

been quite mild this afternoon but that has been offset by the strong

southerly wind. The cloud will thicken up this evening and we have

a weather front approaching which will bring persistent spells of rain

into the Western counties. The rain will edge eastwards tonight and it

will break up and become more patchy but nevertheless it will be a gap

and wet night for many of us. Three of frost and noble or than five or

six degrees. Not a lot of change tomorrow, we will hold onto those

cloudy skies and spells of rain. Most of that rain will be patchy and

the like. It is a pretty overcast and damp day across the Republic of

Ireland as well as central and Southern Scotland and the North of

England. For Wales and the centre of England it is a fine day.

Temperatures in the 70s getting up to 17 or 18 degrees. For Northern

Ireland, not quite as mild as it has been with temperatures close to

average at around eight degrees. Some heavy spells of rain for

Northern Ireland and the public a violent for the evening. Once that

batch of rain moves out of the way, things are looking up for the

beginning of the new geek with high-pressure moving over us and

bringing settled conditions. Fine days with sunny spells but the

Knights could be chubby with frost and fog.
