Good evening, the headlines on BBC Newsline: | :00:15. | :00:18.
No return to a hard border is a matter | :00:19. | :00:21.
of vital national interest, according to the Taoiseach in | :00:22. | :00:24.
at three police officers who've taken personal injury | :00:25. | :00:32.
It is bad enough with three criminal cases coming up then having this on | :00:33. | :00:43.
top of it as well. Another investigation | :00:44. | :00:46.
into this Dunmurry care home, the first of its kind, | :00:47. | :00:47.
by the Commissioner for Older People After a study of professional | :00:48. | :00:50.
footballers, how safe Several hundred join | :00:51. | :00:52.

Jonathan Rea as the reigning world superbike champion gears up | :01:02. | :01:04.
for an unprecedented three in a row. The milder weather has arrived | :01:05. | :01:08.
and it looks like it'll hang around I'll have all the weather | :01:09. | :01:11.
details later. The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said | :01:12. | :01:22.
it's a matter of vital national interest that there's no return | :01:23. | :01:26.
to a hard border when Mr Kenny was making a major speech | :01:27. | :01:30.
on the implications of Brexit, saying it poses a serious threat | :01:31. | :01:37.
to the Republic's He described the forthcoming | :01:38. | :01:39.
negotiations as the most significant that Ireland has faced | :01:40. | :01:46.
as an independent state. And he's warned that if no Executive | :01:47. | :01:48.
is formed after the election, Northern Ireland's concerns | :01:49. | :01:51.
will struggle to be heard. Here's our Economics and Business | :01:52. | :01:53.
Editor, John Campbell. Enda Kenny was speaking in Dublin. | :01:54. | :02:07.
But his speech was aimed at many audiences. Irish voters, fellow EU | :02:08. | :02:13.
leaders and a warning for the Stormont parties. With the | :02:14. | :02:15.
dissolution of the Assembly, there is a very real danger that the | :02:16. | :02:22.
absence of political leadership in Northern Ireland will lead to a | :02:23. | :02:26.
retreat to partisan debate and an even greater marginalisation of | :02:27. | :02:32.
Northern Ireland's concerns. The Brexit process will not wait for | :02:33. | :02:39.
another round of lengthy tome that Stormont. The future of the border | :02:40. | :02:44.
will be one of the toughest Brexit issues. Neither the British nor | :02:45. | :02:48.
Irish governments want a return to arrangements such as this. But | :02:49. | :02:52.
finding a way to keep the board at its current invisible state will not | :02:53. | :02:56.
be straightforward. For example, there will be have to be some form | :02:57. | :03:00.
of customs checks. One of Enda Kenny's biggest challenges will be | :03:01. | :03:05.
convincing the EU leaders the border should not be hardened. That Irish | :03:06. | :03:10.
Government will oppose a hard border. They will argue for free | :03:11. | :03:15.
movement on this Ireland, seek European Union funding for | :03:16. | :03:20.
cross-border projects and protect the rights of European Union citizen | :03:21. | :03:26.
is whether from North or South. And the Taoiseach was not playing down | :03:27. | :03:31.
the potential consequences for the Republic's economy. Brexit is a | :03:32. | :03:35.
serious, direct threat to Ireland's economic prosperity. Potential | :03:36. | :03:44.
impacts are profound. Key sectors, such as agriculture, food, fishing, | :03:45. | :03:49.
all face particular risks and challenges. Hanging over these | :03:50. | :03:52.
beaches the question of who will be speaking for Ireland as Mr Kenny's | :03:53. | :03:55.
leadership comes under pressure. A reference there to | :03:56. | :03:58.
a Taoiseach under pressure. Tonight in the Dail, | :03:59. | :04:00.
he faces a vote of confidence over his and his government's | :04:01. | :04:03.
handling of the scandal of false smears circulated | :04:04. | :04:06.
about a Garda whistle-blower, Our Dublin correspondent | :04:07. | :04:09.
Shane Harrison joins us. Shane, bring us up to speed | :04:10. | :04:13.
with political developments there? Enda Kenny made that Brexit speech | :04:14. | :04:25.
in the Mansion house in Dublin where the first Dail met and proclaimed | :04:26. | :04:29.
Irish independence. And immediately after it, he headed for a meeting | :04:30. | :04:33.
with independent ministers, members of the Independent Alliance, members | :04:34. | :04:36.
of his Government, to make sure they will vote with him into my's | :04:37. | :04:41.
confidence vote. They will, but their prize is an international | :04:42. | :04:45.
policing expert to review Garda operations. A confidence motion will | :04:46. | :04:49.
be tabled within the next half hour and a vote is taken shortly after | :04:50. | :04:54.
10pm. The Government will win it and Enda Kenny will survive, because it | :04:55. | :05:00.
will be abstained in line with a party's three Budget confidence and | :05:01. | :05:01.
supply arrangement. Well, barring unforeseen | :05:02. | :05:14.
circumstances he will almost certainly be Taoiseach in March when | :05:15. | :05:18.
the Brexit negotiations are expected to begin. After tonight's vote, | :05:19. | :05:22.
there cannot be in confidence one until after six months. That provide | :05:23. | :05:26.
an opportunity for Enda Kenny to call time on his Premiership or | :05:27. | :05:30.
indicate a time frame for when he is going to stand down. The Republic | :05:31. | :05:35.
came close to a general election at this week, he himself said he will | :05:36. | :05:38.
not lead them into the next election and many in the party were really | :05:39. | :05:44.
worried and scared about the possible general election, given the | :05:45. | :05:47.
leadership issue has not been resolved. Brexit negotiations will | :05:48. | :05:51.
take at least two years and it's almost impossible to see him being | :05:52. | :05:55.
Taoiseach by the time of the conclusion of those negotiations. | :05:56. | :05:59.
What we can say with some degree of certainty is the ticking clock on | :06:00. | :06:04.
his years is getting louder. Thank you. | :06:05. | :06:05.
A Belfast man has been jailed for 11 years for causing life-changing | :06:06. | :06:08.
injuries to a young woman after he assaulted her with | :06:09. | :06:11.
The judge, who sentenced 22-year-old Aaron Hyland | :06:12. | :06:15.
from Katherine's Road in Ballymurphy, said the violence | :06:16. | :06:17.
used against the woman, who is now 25, was "sickening". | :06:18. | :06:21.
Hyland admitted causing the woman grievous bodily harm | :06:22. | :06:23.
A charge of rape was allowed to remain on the books. | :06:24. | :06:34.
Police welcomed the sentence and praised the strength and dignity | :06:35. | :06:37.
shown by the victim. We hear about the problems faced | :06:38. | :06:38.
by the new Enniskillen A man from Newcastle who was held | :06:39. | :06:43.
at knife-point in his home and had his car stolen says he feels | :06:44. | :06:52.
victimised again by personal injury claims made by | :06:53. | :06:55.
three police officers. They were in a car which was hit | :06:56. | :06:58.
by Terence Duffin's stolen car. When Terence Duffin's, stolen it was | :06:59. | :07:15.
traumatic enough. But months later, it was written off in a police chase | :07:16. | :07:21.
and he has had more unexpected news. He's received three personal injury | :07:22. | :07:25.
claims from police officers. I just couldn't believe this was happening | :07:26. | :07:30.
to me. They told me they would send me for details of all claims when | :07:31. | :07:35.
the whole thing is settled, I reckon that will be about September and | :07:36. | :07:39.
then I will see where my claims bonus stands. -- no claims bonus. I | :07:40. | :07:44.
just have to live with it. It is bad enough with the criminal case coming | :07:45. | :07:49.
up, without this on top of me as well. The police chased the car from | :07:50. | :07:55.
Newcastle to Belfast. It was here the two cars collided. We asked the | :07:56. | :08:01.
PSNI for -- if it was in practice for police to make civil claims | :08:02. | :08:04.
against owners even if they went in the car at the time. They said they | :08:05. | :08:08.
did not hold this information and each incident would depend on | :08:09. | :08:11.
individual circumstances. They said it will be a private matter between | :08:12. | :08:15.
the individual officer, like any other citizen injured by a stolen | :08:16. | :08:18.
car and the insurance company involved. This solicitor says this | :08:19. | :08:25.
is the officer's only option if they are hard to our duty by an uninsured | :08:26. | :08:28.
driver. The police officers would have to show that they've been at | :08:29. | :08:33.
fault in some way or they've caused the accident or failed to put | :08:34. | :08:36.
safeguards in place to protect them when they were on duty and in this | :08:37. | :08:39.
situation, the accident was caused as a result of the negligence, and | :08:40. | :08:45.
ensure drivers who are stolen the vehicle. In that situation, a claim | :08:46. | :08:50.
against the PSNI would not likely get off the ground, because there is | :08:51. | :08:54.
no negligence on their part. Terence has now replaced his car and is | :08:55. | :08:57.
waiting to see just how high his next insurance bill will be. | :08:58. | :08:59.
In a statement this afternoon the PSNI said the officers are not | :09:00. | :09:05.
claiming against the victim's insurance, they are claiming | :09:06. | :09:10.
The PSNI said it was a matter between the insured person | :09:11. | :09:14.
and the insurance company whether or not the incident | :09:15. | :09:16.
would be treated as a claim under their policy. | :09:17. | :09:19.
Now an update now on a story we brought you in December. | :09:20. | :09:21.
It involves a failing care home on the outskirts of Belfast. | :09:22. | :09:24.
Dunmurry Manor has already been closed to new admissions | :09:25. | :09:28.
and is under investigation by the south eastern health trust. | :09:29. | :09:31.
Today another separate investigation was launched by the Commissioner | :09:32. | :09:34.
for Older People in Northern Ireland. | :09:35. | :09:35.
He says he's been prompted to take action after receiving complaints | :09:36. | :09:38.
from family member and former employees about poor | :09:39. | :09:40.
This care home opened in 2014. It specialises in caring for older | :09:41. | :09:59.
people with dementia. But repeated inspections have found problems with | :10:00. | :10:04.
the standards of care. In December, BBC Newsline interviewed a relative | :10:05. | :10:08.
of Annie McCourt, who passed away November. The 89-year-old woman fell | :10:09. | :10:14.
out of bed in Dunmurry Manor, but her family were not informed until | :10:15. | :10:18.
nine hours later. Totally unacceptable. My grandmother was | :10:19. | :10:22.
nearly 90, she had Alzheimer's dementia, she should have -- they | :10:23. | :10:29.
should have informed us immediately. This at the home was not meeting the | :10:30. | :10:34.
required standards and it has stopped new admissions until it | :10:35. | :10:38.
does. Several health trusts place client C. The south-eastern health | :10:39. | :10:41.
trust is leading an investigation on behalf them all and has put trust | :10:42. | :10:47.
staff on site. Today, another investigation. The first of its kind | :10:48. | :10:51.
by the commission of all the people. I think about to take this action | :10:52. | :10:55.
following complaints both from relatives of older people based in | :10:56. | :10:59.
the home and also members of staff who worked there. In carrying out | :11:00. | :11:02.
this investigation, it is to ensure older people are receiving a high | :11:03. | :11:05.
quality of care and the treatment that they need. This latest | :11:06. | :11:09.
investigation will report before the summer. In a statement, the company | :11:10. | :11:14.
that runs Dunmurry Manor says, they were surprised to learn from the | :11:15. | :11:18.
media that the Commissioner for older people had initiated an | :11:19. | :11:21.
investigation and it said it has already improved in many areas of | :11:22. | :11:26.
service provision. Over two years after concerns were first raised | :11:27. | :11:31.
about this care home, residents of Dunmurry Manor barring a home which | :11:32. | :11:34.
is still failing to meet the minimum standards of care, with two | :11:35. | :11:39.
investigation is now underway, home is under intense scrutiny. | :11:40. | :11:47.
The question of whether repeated blows to be head in football can | :11:48. | :11:53.
cause long-term brain damage as long shovelled -- baffled scientists. The | :11:54. | :11:55.
first time now, researchers say they found possible link. Scientists from | :11:56. | :12:00.
University College London and Cardiff University studied the | :12:01. | :12:04.
brains of 60 seat players, all of whom had developed dementia in later | :12:05. | :12:08.
life. -- six deceased players. Heading the ball is an important | :12:09. | :12:21.
skill for any footballer. But could it be causing long-term damage? In | :12:22. | :12:29.
this latest study, scientists looked at the brains of six lifelong | :12:30. | :12:33.
footballers. Four of them showed signs of the brain injury, known as | :12:34. | :12:43.
CTE, linked to repeated blows to the head. I could see how they could be | :12:44. | :12:47.
a correlation between heading a very heavy ball constantly all being hit | :12:48. | :12:51.
on the head and dementia, I'm just not so sure in the modern-day game | :12:52. | :12:55.
with the modern-day football is if that would be the same. The science | :12:56. | :13:00.
is far from certain. But those behind the study at midday can't | :13:01. | :13:04.
definitively proven in between heading the ball and dementia. | :13:05. | :13:07.
Football has changed a lot since the six players involved in this | :13:08. | :13:11.
research last played. The four balls are now much lighter and there is a | :13:12. | :13:14.
greater awareness around competition. While this study did | :13:15. | :13:20.
not analyse the risks to young footballers, organisations like the | :13:21. | :13:22.
Professional Footballers' Association have recently called for | :13:23. | :13:26.
a ban on very young players heading the ball. It is quite interest in | :13:27. | :13:33.
the process they have taken, that it is illegal for those under ten to | :13:34. | :13:39.
head the ball. If they do, a free kick is given against them and | :13:40. | :13:43.
restrictions in place for an 11-13 -year-olds. Is quite alarming and we | :13:44. | :13:47.
need to look at the scientific approach. If it does affect me in | :13:48. | :13:58.
later life, I will have to take care of it. You always have to be | :13:59. | :14:05.
careful, but you don't know when you could possibly virtual neck and | :14:06. | :14:11.
sometimes it can be scary. The study has prompted calls for research into | :14:12. | :14:14.
a long suspected issue in the sport. A spokesperson for the Irish | :14:15. | :14:18.
Football Association said while research finds no definitive link | :14:19. | :14:21.
between CTE and heading to the football, we support the call for | :14:22. | :14:26.
further large-scale study in this area. | :14:27. | :14:27.
The families of three children who suffer from a severe muscle | :14:28. | :14:33.
wasting disease have been told they are to receive a drug which may | :14:34. | :14:36.
BBC Newsline featured their story last month. | :14:37. | :14:39.
While one child had started the treatment in December the other | :14:40. | :14:41.
three families accused the Minister and the Belfast Health Trust of | :14:42. | :14:44.
denying the drug to their children, who have the same condition. | :14:45. | :14:47.
The families say they are delighted with the decision and are hopeful it | :14:48. | :14:50.
It will make a huge difference and mean she can hold her head up, | :14:51. | :15:06.
they'll be more muscle control and she will be able to use her arms and | :15:07. | :15:10.
play with her toys herself and could potentially allow her to walk. | :15:11. | :15:12.
Sinn Fein's Stormont leader Michelle O'Neill has rejected DUP | :15:13. | :15:14.
calls for the controversial Petition of Concern to be scrapped. | :15:15. | :15:16.
Ms O'Neill said the mechanism IS needed to protect the rights | :15:17. | :15:19.
She was speaking at the launch of Sinn Fein's election manifesto | :15:20. | :15:25.
and our Political Correspondent Enda McClafferty was there. | :15:26. | :15:34.
Michelle O'Neill's first priority today, funny enough, was not in the | :15:35. | :15:45.
party manifesto. High heels and high stools she told the press team do | :15:46. | :15:48.
not go well together. No, she made it clear, do Sinn Fein and the DUP. | :15:49. | :15:56.
We have public concern and outrage in relation to the design of this | :15:57. | :16:01.
scheme and we know it has been of the DUP's making. Whilst there is a | :16:02. | :16:06.
cloud hanging over Arlene Foster, she should not take up the position | :16:07. | :16:10.
and we will not support her in a position of Deputy First Minister in | :16:11. | :16:13.
executive office. Those divisions have spread to the use of petitions | :16:14. | :16:19.
of concern. Arlene Foster said the mechanism should be scrapped, but | :16:20. | :16:24.
Michelle O'Neill says no. Aim is to concern -- the time and to rise. | :16:25. | :16:28.
Others have abused that position to deny people rights. That is an | :16:29. | :16:34.
acceptable. Sinn Fein's manifesto says at 25 priorities, including an | :16:35. | :16:38.
Ireland wide referendum on Irish unity. Also, full implementation of | :16:39. | :16:44.
Inquirer recommendations, securing special starters in Brexit | :16:45. | :16:49.
negotiations, commit equality and respect including an Irish language | :16:50. | :16:53.
act and ensuring both governments on and implement agreements. This is | :16:54. | :16:58.
not a blueprint for Government, but a template of Sinn Fein's 25 key | :16:59. | :17:03.
demands for negotiation which will follow the election on March the | :17:04. | :17:07.
2nd. Judging by the mood here today, the party is in no rush to return to | :17:08. | :17:10.
Hurricane Matthew. -- Stormont. Still to come on the programme: | :17:11. | :17:14.
Jonathan Rea tells us why he believes he can become | :17:15. | :17:17.
the first rider to win the World Superbike Championship | :17:18. | :17:19.
three years in a row. Over 200 youth leaders | :17:20. | :17:26.
and young people held a protest today outside | :17:27. | :17:28.
the Belfast Headquarters Around 100 youth workers | :17:29. | :17:31.
in the city have been put on protective notice as there's | :17:32. | :17:38.
still no confirmation of a youth services Budget for the next year, | :17:39. | :17:40.
as our education correspondent A half term protest in Belfast city | :17:41. | :17:55.
centre. In among the noisy crowd of youth workers and sure if they will | :17:56. | :17:59.
still have a job by April. Were funded until the end of March and | :18:00. | :18:04.
after that, we've been told that the post will cease if there is no | :18:05. | :18:08.
funding guaranteed. That means the youth centre may close. That will | :18:09. | :18:14.
mean myself and other colleagues at Saint Peter 's youth centre will be | :18:15. | :18:18.
out of a job. It will take away any late-night work we do and any | :18:19. | :18:23.
weekend work, too. It will reduce any of the positive impact we make | :18:24. | :18:27.
with young people. The education minister says work like these | :18:28. | :18:34.
people's is vital and he wanted to continue. But until the money is in | :18:35. | :18:39.
place, they are worried. There are 100 part-time workers across | :18:40. | :18:46.
Belfast. This fund has enabled youth centres and projects to provide | :18:47. | :18:52.
outreach. It has enabled the provision of after-school clubs and | :18:53. | :18:58.
we can provision. The education authority has attempted to ease | :18:59. | :19:01.
concerns. They say there has been no proposal to withdraw the money that | :19:02. | :19:05.
pays for these jobs, but also, they say they do not know what the Budget | :19:06. | :19:10.
for next year will be. So although they and the Department for | :19:11. | :19:13.
Education are working on a way forward, the employment contracts | :19:14. | :19:15.
many youth workers are still due to end six weeks. -- of many youth | :19:16. | :19:18.
workers. Some teachers at a school | :19:19. | :19:19.
in Fermanagh are spending two hours Enniskillen Royal Grammar School | :19:20. | :19:22.
is operating on a split site following the amalgamation of two | :19:23. | :19:25.
schools in the town. The principal says the problems | :19:26. | :19:27.
highlight the need for a new school Here's our south west | :19:28. | :19:30.
reporter, Julian Fowler. The amalgamation of these two places | :19:31. | :19:48.
divided the community are now it is a single identity, Enniskillen Royal | :19:49. | :19:51.
Grammar School. But until a new school is built, it will operate on | :19:52. | :19:55.
two sites. Few pupils need to travel, but many teachers have to | :19:56. | :19:59.
make the journey to the opposite side of the town. Their concerns | :20:00. | :20:02.
were raised at a recent meeting with school governors. One teacher said | :20:03. | :20:07.
they spent two hours each week travelling between sites. Another | :20:08. | :20:12.
moves between schools four times a day. Preparation time, lunch breaks | :20:13. | :20:20.
and teaching time or lost. Providing cover for teachers who leave early | :20:21. | :20:22.
or arrive late affects more than 100 classes a week. The school decided | :20:23. | :20:26.
not to amalgamate every year group this year to avoid disruptive pupils | :20:27. | :20:30.
taking exams. The printable says the situation will improve, but can only | :20:31. | :20:35.
be resolved by building a new school. We, as a school, are up and | :20:36. | :20:41.
running. We are making the most of opportunities, we are doing our best | :20:42. | :20:44.
to minimise the impact. But our young people are -- our staff and | :20:45. | :20:50.
community need this new building. It is important it is expedited as | :20:51. | :20:56.
quickly as possible. Last month, the Department for Education announced | :20:57. | :20:59.
that this was the preferred location for a new school. But that's just | :21:00. | :21:04.
the first step. The storm is to be a business case, a design team, | :21:05. | :21:09.
planning permission all before construction -- construction can | :21:10. | :21:11.
begin in that process can take years. This college is all about | :21:12. | :21:16.
delays to a new school project. A site was purchased in 2004, but it | :21:17. | :21:22.
took a decade for an economic appraisal to be approved. | :21:23. | :21:24.
Construction was supposed to start last year and was put back by the | :21:25. | :21:28.
weather. It is now expected the school will be finished in 2019, 15 | :21:29. | :21:35.
years late. There is no timetable yet for when this new school will | :21:36. | :21:38.
get a new building and there are concerns the political crisis could | :21:39. | :21:42.
delay decisions that need to be made. | :21:43. | :21:44.
One of our leading motorcyclists is chasing history in 2017. | :21:45. | :21:46.
He has had a great run and this is a big thing, | :21:47. | :21:57.
Reigning world champion Jonathan Rea says he believes he can become | :21:58. | :22:00.
the first rider to win the World Superbike title | :22:01. | :22:03.
The Ballyclare man will begin his challenge next week in Australia. | :22:04. | :22:07.
On a recent brief visit home ahead of the new season, | :22:08. | :22:10.
2016 was a picture perfect year for Jonathan Rea. Trophies, awards and | :22:11. | :22:20.
accolades poured in as he won the world title. All eyes on Jonathan | :22:21. | :22:27.
Rea. Recapture the world Superbike Championship in the Middle East for | :22:28. | :22:31.
the second time in a row and he can't wait to try and do it again. | :22:32. | :22:37.
Jonathan Rea wins the World Championship! The Championship | :22:38. | :22:43.
starts with so many new Riders coming back and it's going to be | :22:44. | :22:48.
pretty tough. But I believe in our ability as a team and as a | :22:49. | :22:51.
manufacturer and it myself, so there are three guys back a winner I feel | :22:52. | :22:56.
like I am one of them is we need to be clever and who knows. So far, he | :22:57. | :23:06.
is very happy with his preparations. I really enjoy the end of last | :23:07. | :23:11.
season and the celebrations and in December we flew out to Australia | :23:12. | :23:14.
with my family to start my pre-season training and the heat out | :23:15. | :23:17.
there, well, everything has been going right. In January, we came | :23:18. | :23:21.
back, hit the ground running and I'm now fully focused on the first race. | :23:22. | :23:27.
In Barcelona his team unveiled the new bicycle for his fresh assault on | :23:28. | :23:32.
the world title. We put the kids to bed on New Year's Eve and my wife | :23:33. | :23:37.
said to me, we wake up tomorrow, are you still world champion? I said I | :23:38. | :23:41.
wanted to forget about that and that's how I want to attack the, not | :23:42. | :23:44.
thinking about the mentor more three in a row, what I think is this is a | :23:45. | :23:49.
New Year, new challenge, new rivals. It is exciting. And few would bet | :23:50. | :23:56.
against him riding some new records in the sport as well. No surprise, | :23:57. | :24:05.
coming here is favourite. -- he is the big favourite. | :24:06. | :24:05.
Ulster Rugby have confirmed that former Lions and Wales scrum-half | :24:06. | :24:08.
Dwayne Peel will join the club next season as assistant coach. | :24:09. | :24:11.
Peel, who will leave his current coaching duties | :24:12. | :24:13.
at English Premiership club Bristol, has agreed a two-year deal | :24:14. | :24:15.
The 35-year-old joins New Zealander Jonno Gibbes who'll | :24:16. | :24:18.
take over as head coach in the summer. | :24:19. | :24:23.
Graeme McDowell returns to action on the PGA Tour tomorrow. | :24:24. | :24:25.
The former US Open champion tees it up at Riviera in California | :24:26. | :24:28.
and after showing glimpses of his best form in the middle | :24:29. | :24:31.
east he's looking to push on in the States. | :24:32. | :24:40.
I'm really looking forward to being back at Riviera. It has been about | :24:41. | :24:46.
four years since I've been there. I really like the course. Two good | :24:47. | :24:50.
weeks in the Middle East really feel like my game is trending in the | :24:51. | :24:53.
right direction and I'm looking forward to going out to Los Angeles | :24:54. | :24:57.
and then ponder the week after, so two weeks on golf courses where I | :24:58. | :25:03.
feel like I can compete. Tiger pulling out of LA is a big | :25:04. | :25:06.
disappointment, but always a great place to play golf. Looking forward | :25:07. | :25:09.
to getting into the season and competing and I feel like the game's | :25:10. | :25:11.
going in the right direction. Smiling good form. One of that is | :25:12. | :25:16.
your sport. Now let's get the weather, | :25:17. | :25:18.
with Cecilia. Hints of spring in the today, too. | :25:19. | :25:32.
Especially when the sun out. Temperatures peaked at 12 degrees in | :25:33. | :25:36.
the North West and when the sun was out earlier, the daffodils opened up | :25:37. | :25:41.
nicely, too. We will keep the milder weather for the next few days. We do | :25:42. | :25:45.
have some rain at the moment, especially in the North West. After | :25:46. | :25:50.
midnight, that will mostly have gone. Largely dry for the second. | :25:51. | :25:54.
Breezy, but even though the cloud will break, no frost. We are looking | :25:55. | :25:59.
at another milestone tomorrow. The best of the weather will be in the | :26:00. | :26:05.
morning. Quite changeable day. But, there will be sunshine tomorrow | :26:06. | :26:12.
morning. Then, cloud increases from the West from lunchtime. Mostly dry | :26:13. | :26:21.
out lunchtime through Belfast. But as we go West, we beat the thick | :26:22. | :26:24.
cloud and the more persistent showers. The wetter weather will | :26:25. | :26:29.
will get up to 10-11 tomorrow. As will get up to 10-11 tomorrow. As | :26:30. | :26:38.
the rain arrives, it will drop a little. Tomorrow, quite wet, but the | :26:39. | :26:42.
rain moves away and leaves lots of cloud. It stays fairly mild, no | :26:43. | :26:49.
frost. On Friday, we are looking at another fairly dry start. Brightness | :26:50. | :26:53.
here there, especially East. A couple of showers from the south in | :26:54. | :26:57.
the afternoon, but a good part of the day looks like it will be fairly | :26:58. | :27:02.
dry, although rain Friday night. That is the weather frontier, which | :27:03. | :27:04.
should clear quickly on Saturday morning. It looks like a good chunk | :27:05. | :27:10.
of the week and will be fairly dry. The next area of organised rain not | :27:11. | :27:15.
coming into later on Sunday. As far as the weekend goes, there will be a | :27:16. | :27:20.
lots of dry weather in the day, Saturday looks like he will be the | :27:21. | :27:23.
brighter of the two and temperatures will continue to be above average. | :27:24. | :27:29.
Some rain at times, but certainly not a lot and it will stay mild. Our | :27:30. | :27:37.
top story. The Dail is due to begin a debate around out about a | :27:38. | :27:41.
confidence motion about the Government's handling of the scandal | :27:42. | :27:46.
about a Garda whistle-blower. Earlier, the Taoiseach said it is a | :27:47. | :27:50.
matter of national interest there is no return to a hardboard after | :27:51. | :27:52.
Brexit. | :27:53. | :27:53. |
