Good evening from Points West. A young soldier who was about to

embark on a tour of duty to Afganistan has died after being hit

by a car in Clevedon. Edward Heal was walking home from the pub early

on Christmas Day. He died at the scene.

A community in shock tonight. Friends of a popular 19 year-olds

gather on Kenn Road in Clevedon. He died here on Christmas Day. He was

hit by a car at 1:15am. On the pavement, a memorial grows for

Edward Heal, a soldier, a son. A friend. We were best friends from

school. He was one in a million. He was always into the Army and rugby.

He was going to Afghanistan in March. Messages and flowers from so

many friends. A flag for the serviceman looking forward to

serving his country. Drinking, happy. He loved it all. He was a

good lad. Never deserved this. happened here on Kenn Road in

Clevedon is still unclear, but police have launched an

investigation two nights and officers are appealing for any

witnesses to come forward. 5,000 people went to the Duke of

Beaufort's Estate in Gloucestershire for the annual

Boxing Day hunt. The Countryside Alliance is calling for the ban on

hunting with dogs to be lifted. But the League Against Cruel Sports say

it is good legislation and working well. People came from as far as

Cornwall and London. In sport, not a good Boxing Day for

Bristol Rovers. They led by 2-0 before losing to Plymouth by 3-2.

Both Rovers goals came from Matt Harold. The first a penalty. This

his second. Plymouth then got two back before Ashley Hemmings scored

the winner in the 90th minute. It was a bad day too for Bristol

City, who were beaten by bottom club Coventry by 1-0. City remain

in 21st place. Twice Yeovil led in their game at home to Charlton only

to see the visitors equalise each time and grab a winner in the 90th

minute. In one bit of good news, Cheltenham move into second place

in League Two despite a 0-0 draw. They move ahead of Southend whose

game was abandoned because of floodlight failure. But Swindon

lost at Torquay by 1-0. In rugby, Gloucester have secured a

vital and convincing win over Wasps. They won by 39-10 and scored six

tries. This from Jonny May. The result takes Gloucester from eighth

in the table to fifth. In racing, Kauto Star has proved

once again he is one of the greatest horses of all time with a

fifth win in the King George VI Chase at Kempton. The 11-year-old,

trained in Somerset by Paul Nicholls, lost out to the much

younger Long Run last year, but gained his revenge this afternoon

with a superb display of jumping to prompt great celebrations in the

stands and in the winner's enclosure.
