That's all from the BBC News at Six, so it's goodbye from me, and on | :00:00. | :00:00.
Welcome to BBC Points West. Our main story: Shrien Dewani could face | :00:00. | :00:15.
extradition in a matter of weeks. High Court rules he could be sent to | :00:16. | :00:20.
South Africa to face allegations he masterminded the killing of his | :00:21. | :00:23.
bride. They were on his honeymoon when she was shot. Her family | :00:24. | :00:29.
welcomes the court's decision. It has been a long time. We have had to | :00:30. | :00:34.
fight so many different courts but we are happy with the British legal | :00:35. | :00:38.
system. We will be asking of the legal process in Britain is at an | :00:39. | :00:49.
end. `` if the legal process. Another weekend of heavy rain is in | :00:50. | :00:54.
prospect, sandbags are at the ready in Somerset as people on the Levels | :00:55. | :01:00.
wait to see what is in store. The lap dancers accused of kidnapping | :01:01. | :01:06.
their boss are cleared. How do you persuade a gaggle of | :01:07. | :01:12.
geese to fly on your land? We will be talking to one of the world's | :01:13. | :01:14.
great word trainers. Good evening. The Bristol | :01:15. | :01:17.
businessman accused of plotting to kill his wife on their honeymoon can | :01:18. | :01:20.
be extradited to South Africa, the High Court has ruled. The High Court | :01:21. | :01:30.
has ruled that Shrien Dewani can be sent to South Africa within three | :01:31. | :01:34.
weeks. He has always denied any involvement. His lawyers argued he's | :01:35. | :01:41.
not fit to stand trial. Shrien Dewani has lost his High | :01:42. | :01:45.
Court battle to block extradition. A High Court judge deciding that he | :01:46. | :01:51.
can be extradited so long as there are guarantees from the South | :01:52. | :01:57.
African government. Shrien Dewani is currently remanded to a mental | :01:58. | :02:00.
health hospital with drama and depression. The conditions are that | :02:01. | :02:06.
if he is found to be unfit to be tried he will be free to return to | :02:07. | :02:10.
the UK unless there is a be a list that prospect of the trial within a | :02:11. | :02:19.
year `` with trauma and depression. The family were at the High Court. | :02:20. | :02:24.
It is a step in the right direction. It is one step closer. It is | :02:25. | :02:31.
3`mac`3`mac years. We have had to fight in so many different courts | :02:32. | :02:36.
but we are so happy that the ruling has finally come forward. And | :02:37. | :02:43.
extradition of someone with what might be a permanent illness. This | :02:44. | :02:47.
has been aimed long`running extradition battle and it is not | :02:48. | :02:53.
over yet. Shrien Dewani is likely to bring the case to the Supreme | :02:54. | :02:59.
Court. I think they probably will entertain the appeal and they will | :03:00. | :03:03.
have to can that what extradition means `` to consider. Is its right | :03:04. | :03:11.
to extradite someone to a foreign country when they cannot engage with | :03:12. | :03:16.
lawyers. His lawyers have made no comment and said previously that he | :03:17. | :03:19.
is happy to face trial when he is fit to do so. He denies any | :03:20. | :03:26.
involvement with his wife's murder. The South African authorities say | :03:27. | :03:28.
they can provide written guarantees to the UK within a matter of weeks. | :03:29. | :03:34.
There are fears tonight that Somerset's rivers could burst their | :03:35. | :03:37.
banks after more heavy rain and a high tide on the way. Environment | :03:38. | :03:41.
Agency staff have been monitoring the River Parrett since first light | :03:42. | :03:46.
this morning. Our reporter is at Burrowbridge. How is it looking The | :03:47. | :04:01.
Environment Agency staff are still here this evening. They have been | :04:02. | :04:05.
looking to see how the level is rising. It has just started raining | :04:06. | :04:10.
again. We have seen local people coming out to check how it might | :04:11. | :04:15.
affect their properties. Giant sandbags lining the river. Will it | :04:16. | :04:21.
be enough to protect people? This swollen river is Somerset's | :04:22. | :04:27.
main route out to sea. The Parrett is almost overflowing. And so | :04:28. | :04:32.
sandbags are the first line of defence. On an industrial scale | :04:33. | :04:39.
stretching as far as the eye can see. There is a good chance it will | :04:40. | :04:48.
go back up especially if the banks breach. I have a feeling it will. By | :04:49. | :04:55.
6am this morning, hundreds of tonnes of sand were donated by an Essex | :04:56. | :05:02.
business owner. He saw the situation in Somerset on the news and decided | :05:03. | :05:11.
he had to help. We put a team of ten people together to put the sand in | :05:12. | :05:16.
place. We were ready to roll as soon as the Environment Agency gave us | :05:17. | :05:19.
the position to place the bags. Emergency vehicles and Government | :05:20. | :05:21.
staff are crisscrossing the Levels. Today the Environment Agency said | :05:22. | :05:24.
despite its biggest ever pumping operation, the water here will take | :05:25. | :05:31.
weeks to clear. Many people will tell you they are already fed up | :05:32. | :05:39.
with waiting. This is the problem. You get a couple of hours of rain | :05:40. | :05:43.
and because it is falling on field that are saturated with water, | :05:44. | :05:48.
instead of soaking in it runs straight off and into the lowest | :05:49. | :05:51.
point it can find. Sand, it seems, is the simplest solution. The best | :05:52. | :05:55.
barrier to keep back these bulging river banks The spring tides this | :05:56. | :05:58.
weekend will slow down the flow on these rivers. It is the conditions | :05:59. | :06:06.
for Castro there is weekend that have those living here worried. `` | :06:07. | :06:14.
forecast for this weekend. It will put more houses at the rate. It is | :06:15. | :06:18.
going to be a danger time for us. The rain may prove too much for this | :06:19. | :06:22.
soaked and sodden scenery to cope with. | :06:23. | :06:33.
The mood here has been a little bit different. Over the last few days | :06:34. | :06:38.
there has been a lot of anger and frustration, people filling the | :06:39. | :06:42.
central government, the local council, were not doing enough to | :06:43. | :06:46.
help people on the ground. Today people have been less concerned | :06:47. | :06:49.
about what has happened so far and looking ahead to the weekend and | :06:50. | :06:54.
hoping that if it is bad over the weekend the authorities and | :06:55. | :06:57.
everybody are better prepared. Other parts of the west are also | :06:58. | :07:08.
braced for flooding. There are three severe warnings in place across the | :07:09. | :07:11.
River Severn. This map gives you an idea of the scale of the problem. | :07:12. | :07:17.
The Environment Agency is regularly giving updates on their online flood | :07:18. | :07:21.
map. Temporary flood barriers have also been put up in the Cumberland | :07:22. | :07:25.
basin in Bristol. There are concerns that the water could go over the | :07:26. | :07:28.
harbour walls. Bristol is on an amber warning, as some tidal | :07:29. | :07:31.
flooding is expected. Another wet weekend in store. Is | :07:32. | :07:36.
there any end in sight? Notch next week. Next week could be worse than | :07:37. | :07:42.
this week. Not least the combination of rain and strong winds. Where s | :07:43. | :07:48.
the chart for Monday. `` there is the chart. We have one for high wind | :07:49. | :07:56.
and snow. More later. Something to look forward to. | :07:57. | :08:00.
Three lap dancers and their agent have been cleared of kidnapping a | :08:01. | :08:05.
man in Cheltenham. The women, along with two brothers, were accused of | :08:06. | :08:08.
targeting a nightclub boss because he owed them more than ?40,000 in | :08:09. | :08:14.
wages. Curtis Woodman rented a nightclub in | :08:15. | :08:17.
Cheltenham for lap dancing during race week in March 2012. He employed | :08:18. | :08:22.
Charlotte Devaney as what's known as the house mum. She recruited 60 | :08:23. | :08:26.
women for the club who would pay ?150 each night to work there and | :08:27. | :08:30.
share the tips. The club, though, was closed down after just two | :08:31. | :08:34.
nights for breaching its licence. Mr Woodman refused to pay the women | :08:35. | :08:37.
over ?42,000 they claimed they'd earned working for him. Charlotte | :08:38. | :08:41.
Devaney, along with three lap dancers, Mandy Cool, Stephanie Pye | :08:42. | :08:44.
and Rachel Goodchild, with brothers Robert and Alex Morris, came to | :08:45. | :08:49.
Gloucestershire to get the money. They tracked Curtis Woodman down at | :08:50. | :08:53.
his business where he claimed he was kidnapped. He got into their car for | :08:54. | :08:58.
a drive and in this lay`by told police he was forced to transfer | :08:59. | :09:01.
?4,800 into Charlotte Devaney's account. Robert Morris told the | :09:02. | :09:05.
court Mr Woodman had said, "Why are you defending them? They're | :09:06. | :09:10.
prostitutes". Robert admitted punching Curtis Woodman in a field | :09:11. | :09:12.
for "disrespecting his girlfriend", one of the defendants. After driving | :09:13. | :09:16.
to a house Mr Woodman was renovating, which he claimed he | :09:17. | :09:19.
would sell to pay them, he was eventually dropped off two miles | :09:20. | :09:23.
away. Curtis Woodman told the jury, "I was in fear of my life. I wasn't | :09:24. | :09:27.
thinking straight". But today the jury decided he'd made up the kidnap | :09:28. | :09:34.
plot. Charlotte Devaney is well known as a DJ, model and actress. | :09:35. | :09:38.
This is her latest single, recorded with Snoop Dogg. She was accused in | :09:39. | :09:41.
court of playing gangster for the day back in 2012 She said, "What, | :09:42. | :09:45.
playing gangster in a miniskirt and heels? No, I don't think so. He | :09:46. | :09:51.
invented all of this so he didn t have to pay us the money back". We | :09:52. | :09:58.
feel amazing. The right verdict has come across. We were never guilty. | :09:59. | :10:03.
It is horrible. I am fighting for my liberty and I should not be. They | :10:04. | :10:08.
had no case to prove. Alex Morris pleaded guilty to possessing a knife | :10:09. | :10:11.
and was found guilty of robbing Curtis Woodman of a Breitling watch | :10:12. | :10:15.
and ?60 in cash. He'll be sentenced next month. The ordeal for the women | :10:16. | :10:21.
in this case started at this nightclub, which is now in different | :10:22. | :10:26.
ownership. They still claim they're owed ?42,000 paid by one of the | :10:27. | :10:30.
customers, in a single night here back in 2012. They told me tonight | :10:31. | :10:33.
that they'll now pursue civil proceedings to get the money back. | :10:34. | :10:39.
Avon Fire and Rescue Service says it's planning to close five stations | :10:40. | :10:42.
as part of its biggest reorganisation since the 1970s. | :10:43. | :10:45.
Stations at Speedwell, Keynsham Brislington, Southmead and Patchway | :10:46. | :10:48.
will all close and others in the city will merge. The service says it | :10:49. | :10:54.
also plans to build three new stations, a new headquarters and | :10:55. | :10:59.
extend a fourth station. A 30`year`old mother has been spared | :11:00. | :11:02.
jail after traces of amphetamine were found in two of her children. | :11:03. | :11:06.
Gloucester Crown Court heard the woman, who can't be named so as to | :11:07. | :11:10.
protect the children, had a history of anxiety, and had left the drugs | :11:11. | :11:18.
in an open bag in her bedroom. She was given a 12`month jail sentence, | :11:19. | :11:21.
suspended for two years. Her children are now in foster care | :11:22. | :11:24.
Campaigners in Wiltshire are calling on the government to clamp down on | :11:25. | :11:27.
solar farm developments. Seven different schemes are planned for | :11:28. | :11:31.
500 acres of land around Seend. Opponents say it'll spoil the view. | :11:32. | :11:35.
But a debate in parliament has been told that there are enough | :11:36. | :11:41.
safeguards. Coming soon to a field near you | :11:42. | :11:45.
Solar power is booming as Britain shifts to cleaner energy. This solar | :11:46. | :11:49.
farm near Melksham is one of the first in Wiltshire. Close by another | :11:50. | :12:00.
is planned, 20 times larger. If it goes ahead it will be reconstructed | :12:01. | :12:03.
in these fields as one of Britain's biggest solar farms full is what has | :12:04. | :12:09.
riled so many locals is that so many are planned. That could be no less | :12:10. | :12:13.
than seven. In the village, they've mobilised. One already has planning. | :12:14. | :12:22.
We are fully surrounded. They're putting pressure on Wiltshire | :12:23. | :12:24.
Council, which is deciding whether to grant planning permission. We are | :12:25. | :12:35.
very raw renewables `` or renewables but we are concerned our area is | :12:36. | :12:40.
going to be blighted by overwhelming numbers of solar panels. The firm | :12:41. | :12:43.
behind the biggest scheme have some local backing. It'll go on low grade | :12:44. | :12:46.
agricultural land. The community will receive ?40,000 a year. It s | :12:47. | :12:54.
claimed fears have been exaggerated. Within five miles of the particular | :12:55. | :13:00.
point it is over 500 acres within 50,000, roughly 1%. Within that | :13:01. | :13:06.
context, those sites are being designed under scrutiny. The | :13:07. | :13:11.
ultimate visual impact is very minimal. In parliament, one | :13:12. | :13:16.
Wiltshire MP stressed the need to use brownfield sites. There was | :13:17. | :13:18.
reassurance from a government minister that enough is being done | :13:19. | :13:23.
to protect prime countryside. That is the reason why we have issued | :13:24. | :13:30.
further planning practice guide the `` guidance on renewable and low | :13:31. | :13:33.
carbon energy. So the energy revolution goes on. Soon solar farms | :13:34. | :13:36.
may be as much a fixture of the countryside as, well, pylons. | :13:37. | :13:49.
Rugby's Six Nations is back this weekend, starting with the game they | :13:50. | :13:52.
call "Le Crunch", England against France. Our reporter has been joined | :13:53. | :14:00.
by former Bath and England player David Flatman. Any local players we | :14:01. | :14:07.
should be keeping an eye on? A couple of Gloucester players week | :14:08. | :14:15.
should. England in Paris against France It | :14:16. | :14:19.
does not get much tougher. It is going to be a massive game. All of | :14:20. | :14:24.
us rugby types think we nor our stuff but we have no idea what is | :14:25. | :14:28.
going to happen. We have no idea how the French are going to perform | :14:29. | :14:32.
Gloucester's Jonny May will make his Six Nations debut for England. The | :14:33. | :14:35.
23`year`old wing will be hoping to take his explosive Premiership form | :14:36. | :14:37.
onto the international stage. Proud, excited, happy, it is a nice | :14:38. | :15:06.
moment for me, I got onto my dad straightaway and he was over the | :15:07. | :15:11.
moon. It is as much of an award for him as it is for me. My family have | :15:12. | :15:15.
been there for me since I was five so is. Supporting the emotionally as | :15:16. | :15:25.
well. At just 23 he could be a big part of England's future. He is one | :15:26. | :15:29.
of a number of younger players being given a chance to shine before next | :15:30. | :15:35.
year's World Cup. He has been to South Africa with us and Argentina | :15:36. | :15:39.
and he has played well for Gloucester. At some point you have | :15:40. | :15:45.
to give them opportunity. It is his speed that has caught the eye. He | :15:46. | :15:50.
has worked with a former Olympic 200 metre runner. It has improved me | :15:51. | :15:56.
speed wise as an athlete. Techniques, training habits, things | :15:57. | :16:02.
to work on, I am in a good place at the moment. Tomorrow that pace will | :16:03. | :16:06.
be unleashed on the French in the Six Nations. It is probably the | :16:07. | :16:11.
biggest thing apart from the World Cup in terms of the rivalry between | :16:12. | :16:15.
the home nations and the way that the nation gets behind each of their | :16:16. | :16:20.
teams. France are such a passionate nation. It is such an amazing | :16:21. | :16:27.
stadium as well. From what I have heard as is going to be an amazing | :16:28. | :16:33.
atmosphere. TUC ham being a star of the tournament? He has the | :16:34. | :16:39.
potential. I would not want to put pressure on him. He is one of those | :16:40. | :16:43.
guys who can turn a sticky situation round very quickly. Dave Atwood of | :16:44. | :16:57.
Bath is on the bench. George Watson travel but is not involved. A | :16:58. | :17:03.
surprise, a mistake? I think it is a surprise. You look at Jonny May and | :17:04. | :17:09.
Anthony Wilson, two young, very exciting wingers. He is the sort of | :17:10. | :17:18.
guy you could put in and do a job. I am surprised that George Ford is not | :17:19. | :17:23.
involved. I thought he would be I think there will be opportunities | :17:24. | :17:29.
for him in the next few weeks. That gives you an idea of his talent In | :17:30. | :17:33.
terms of the tournament as a whole, our wheels the team to beat? | :17:34. | :17:41.
Probably. If everyone performs to their potential, France are the team | :17:42. | :17:49.
to beat. We never know. They were not so great last year and they had | :17:50. | :17:57.
a similar team. Wales have potentially the most dangerous | :17:58. | :18:01.
player in the whole tournament. You have a personal challenge coming up, | :18:02. | :18:05.
the half marathon. Do not look so surprised. I signed up a week ago. | :18:06. | :18:13.
It was a challenge over lunchtime with somebody mocking my portions. | :18:14. | :18:18.
People have been generous enough to have the needed money already. As | :18:19. | :18:21.
you can see, the training is going well. I am pretty much there. In | :18:22. | :18:29.
marathon shape. I will get round. I am doing it for the Down's syndrome | :18:30. | :18:34.
Association. My little brother has Downs syndrome. They have been | :18:35. | :18:39.
helping my brother for a while. I'm happy to be able to give them a good | :18:40. | :18:43.
amount of money at the end hopefully. If anyone feels they | :18:44. | :18:50.
would like to donate however little, I would be very grateful. | :18:51. | :18:55.
Club rugby sees Bath take on Leicester tonight in the Anglo`Welsh | :18:56. | :18:59.
Cup. They're already through to the semi`finals but are looking to | :19:00. | :19:02.
secure a home tie. Gloucester play host to Wasps tomorrow. They can't | :19:03. | :19:06.
progress any further. On Sunday Bristol are at home to Jersey with | :19:07. | :19:09.
Scotland international Ross Rennie making his debut. In football, | :19:10. | :19:13.
Yeovil take on Nottingham Forest on the same day with all our other | :19:14. | :19:20.
teams in action tomorrow. The Wiltshire snooker player Stephen | :19:21. | :19:23.
Lee has had his appeal against his 12`year ban from snooker adjourned. | :19:24. | :19:27.
The 39`year`old from Trowbridge was given the suspension last September | :19:28. | :19:30.
after being found guilty of seven charges of match`fixing dating back | :19:31. | :19:37.
to 2008 and 2009. Lee continues to maintain his innocence. | :19:38. | :19:41.
Team Bath begin the defence of their netball Superleague title tonight at | :19:42. | :19:46.
home to Team Northumbria. The league has only been going eight years and | :19:47. | :19:50.
Team Bath have already won it five times. They've added to their | :19:51. | :19:54.
coaching set`up with former England international Olivia Murphy arriving | :19:55. | :19:56.
from rivals Loughborough Lightning She'll assist Jess Thirlby. | :19:57. | :20:13.
Well done on your marathon attempt. Half marathon. I think you should do | :20:14. | :20:27.
the marathon ! Training animals can be tricky, so | :20:28. | :20:32.
imagine what life is like training birds to fly in formation for | :20:33. | :20:39.
films. That talent are being highlighted at the festival of birds | :20:40. | :20:45.
in Slimbridge this weekend. These guys are the stars of this | :20:46. | :20:50.
show, geese. They have names and their own personalities. They have a | :20:51. | :20:59.
lifelong friend and mentor in this woman. I slept with them after they | :21:00. | :21:08.
hatched for six weeks. I was with them 24 hours a day. That was my | :21:09. | :21:14.
sole job, inside my sleeping bag. Everywhere I went, they went. We | :21:15. | :21:20.
formed such a close bond. Now they are grown up I think they have gone | :21:21. | :21:33.
off to find a mate. When she says jump, the geese fly. It is something | :21:34. | :21:40.
you never get tired of. We have been doing it for years and it is still | :21:41. | :21:46.
exciting. Really excited every single time. It is more exciting up | :21:47. | :21:50.
close as she calls to the geese and they seem to follow her every | :21:51. | :21:55.
instruction. This is work that needs dedication from her and her husband. | :21:56. | :22:01.
It is our life. It is the lifestyle. It is what we do, seven days a week. | :22:02. | :22:07.
It is our whole life. Christmas Day is about the only day we do not fly | :22:08. | :22:12.
the birds. We have been fortunate enough to work on so many different | :22:13. | :22:17.
ground`breaking sequences. I never dreamt I would end up doing this as | :22:18. | :22:24.
a job. It is a job that they all seemed to enjoy. He is with us. It | :22:25. | :22:36.
is not just geese you train. Who is this? Are wrong. `` Arnold. He is | :22:37. | :22:51.
very cheeky. We can see some shots of him in action. What is he up to? | :22:52. | :22:59.
He is showing how good his eyesight is. Birds are particularly good at | :23:00. | :23:08.
judging objects coming up to them. It is distracting when he is flying | :23:09. | :23:13.
round the studio. He seems very well controlled. He is happy to come to | :23:14. | :23:21.
us. We have had him since he was five days old. We have all different | :23:22. | :23:26.
characters. He is cheeky and friendly. He likes people. How did | :23:27. | :23:32.
you get him to this stage? That is my wife. She puts in the time with | :23:33. | :23:41.
all the geese and waterfowl and she raised the starlings. Since there | :23:42. | :23:48.
were five days old. That's my they were five days old. Who wants these | :23:49. | :23:57.
trained birds? We do a lot of documentary work on them. Trying to | :23:58. | :24:03.
get close to a bird to from natural behaviour would be almost | :24:04. | :24:08.
impossible. You have given up so much of your life, clearly you are | :24:09. | :24:14.
passionate, what have you given up? 25 years. It is a long time, it is a | :24:15. | :24:23.
life. Are they like your children? They are like an extended family. He | :24:24. | :24:29.
is trying to shore as something He is going to say hello to everyone. | :24:30. | :24:33.
Most birds would never know how to get the lid off that port, but | :24:34. | :24:44.
starlings are intelligent `` that pot. Thank you. We offer everything. | :24:45. | :25:08.
I was waiting for an accident on your suit. It is a weekend that will | :25:09. | :25:21.
be played with various warnings some of those from the Met Office, | :25:22. | :25:25.
many more from the Environment Agency. Saturday is going to have | :25:26. | :25:33.
heavy showers, some wintry. It will be a mostly windy day. We have the | :25:34. | :25:38.
warning out for that. Sunday will be the better of the two days. Mandy | :25:39. | :25:48.
looks troublesome `` Monday. The amber warning will expire at the | :25:49. | :25:52.
clock as well the yellow warning elsewhere. That is replaced for a | :25:53. | :25:59.
warning `` with a warning for ice. Some of that will be as snow. For | :26:00. | :26:08.
Saturday, we go on to a wind warning and that will be catering for the | :26:09. | :26:13.
potential of winds touching 50` 0 mph. The reason for that is this | :26:14. | :26:23.
area of low pressure rotating with the early rain clearing away | :26:24. | :26:29.
towards. Towards the end of Saturday there's no real change to that. If | :26:30. | :26:32.
anything the winds will have got stronger. There is the threat of | :26:33. | :26:40.
high tides. The early rain clearing away towards the east, still a bit | :26:41. | :26:44.
of showery rain about but a window of drier weather until the early | :26:45. | :26:52.
hours. Then we have the potential for snow and hail. That good ice up | :26:53. | :27:04.
into tomorrow morning. Tomorrow becoming windy. There will be dry | :27:05. | :27:09.
and sunny spells but the threat of further showers. The threat of | :27:10. | :27:15.
wintry showers diminishes as the day goes on, but still reading in some | :27:16. | :27:28.
districts. The heads up is Monday, Wednesday looks even worse. | :27:29. | :27:46.
I hope we get through this weekend. Goodbye. | :27:47. | :27:48. |
