A Good evening. with the late news 10:10. | :00:00. | :00:14.
A Good evening. Victims of flooding are being told | :00:15. | :00:17.
that they will be able to gdt insurance for their homes in the | :00:18. | :00:21.
future. As the waters begin to recede on the Somerset Levels, | :00:22. | :00:24.
people are getting back into their houses and beginning to cle`n up. | :00:25. | :00:28.
But they face many months of work and the costs will run into hundreds | :00:29. | :00:32.
of thousands of pounds. Will Glennon's been to Muchelney today. | :00:33. | :00:36.
This is the home of Liz and Peter Nightingale. It has been under water | :00:37. | :00:40.
for eight weeks. Then finally, on Wednesday, they reclaimed their | :00:41. | :00:45.
downstairs floor. The water came in about 13 inches. That is sthll | :00:46. | :00:51.
pretty damp in the fireplacd. The Nightingales have lived on the edge | :00:52. | :00:54.
of Muchelney for 17 years and only flooded for the first time last | :00:55. | :01:01.
year. Their home insurance rocketed. They offered me, er, a renewal with | :01:02. | :01:04.
special terms, which amounts to approximately doubling of the | :01:05. | :01:12.
premium and a huge excess. What size excess? Well, the excess on this | :01:13. | :01:18.
building is ?15,000. If people in these flooded areas of Somerset were | :01:19. | :01:22.
left to the Open market, thdy probably wouldn't get home | :01:23. | :01:25.
insurance, they are too much of a financial risk now. They nedd the | :01:26. | :01:31.
Government and the insurancd industry to work together to make | :01:32. | :01:37.
sure they are not left on their own. A new scheme called Flood Rd is due | :01:38. | :01:42.
to be put in place in 2015. That will keep things affordable. | :01:43. | :01:44.
Affordability is not just about premiums, it is about excess as well | :01:45. | :01:48.
and we know there is an increasing number of sizeable excesses out | :01:49. | :01:52.
there, and that is why the Flood Re scheme won't just look at affordable | :01:53. | :01:55.
premiums, but will make surd that flood excesses remain affordable as | :01:56. | :01:58.
well. The Nightingales hadn't finished cleaning up from l`st | :01:59. | :02:00.
year's floods when they got hit again this year. They have `lready | :02:01. | :02:04.
begun their insurance claim but the whole process will be long `nd | :02:05. | :02:11.
costly. For them, a huge prdmium and an excess into tens of thousands is | :02:12. | :02:15.
simply the reality of living in a flood`prone area, and one they are | :02:16. | :02:24.
resigned to. A protest's taken place on the Old | :02:25. | :02:28.
Severn Bridge this morning, involving people who are concerned | :02:29. | :02:35.
about high tolls. Both Severn bridges will become publiclx owned | :02:36. | :02:37.
in 2018 once their original construction costs have been | :02:38. | :02:40.
covered. Today, campaigners were asking for the tolls to be lowered | :02:41. | :02:45.
or even scrapped in the futtre. They have a great effect on us, we | :02:46. | :02:49.
are the local community frol the area. It affects small businesses, | :02:50. | :02:52.
many of us have small busindsses in the area. Families, outings, we | :02:53. | :02:56.
would spend more money in England even when we spend money in Wales. | :02:57. | :03:00.
Dash England would spend more money in Wales. It would do the local | :03:01. | :03:04.
economy a huge amount of good if they were reduced or banned | :03:05. | :03:07.
altogether when the tolls come back into public ownership in 2008. | :03:08. | :03:10.
The Department for Transport has said that no decisions have been | :03:11. | :03:14.
made on toll pricing but anx future arrangements would need to lake | :03:15. | :03:16.
proper provision for repaymdnt of Government costs and maintenance. | :03:17. | :03:19.
In football, Yeovil drew 1`0 at Reading in the Championship but | :03:20. | :03:24.
ended the game with only eight men. Shane Duffy scored for Yeovhl. | :03:25. | :03:28.
Glovers keeper Marek Stek s`ved a penalty, then Byron Webster, Joe | :03:29. | :03:31.
Rawls and Kieffer Moore werd all sent off in the second half. | :03:32. | :03:37.
In League One, Bristol City beat Gillingham 2`1, with Sam Baldock and | :03:38. | :03:40.
Simon Gillett scoring at Ashton Gate. And Swindon drew 1`1 `gainst | :03:41. | :03:48.
Crewe. In League Two, Cheltdnham Town netted a 2`1 victory over Bury. | :03:49. | :03:53.
Rovers drew 0`0 at Northampton. And despite this try from Hdnry | :03:54. | :03:56.
Trinder and a conversion from Freddie Burns, Gloucester f`iled to | :03:57. | :03:59.
do the double over Northampton today in the Premiership. The final score | :04:00. | :04:00.
was 39`13. Rovers drew 0`0 at Northampton. | :04:01. | :04:04.
And despite this try from Hdnry And in the Championship, Bristol are | :04:05. | :04:12.
currently winning against Rotherham. The current school is 19`28 `` | :04:13. | :04:17.
score. Well, not a bad day for the first | :04:18. | :04:18.
day of spring. Well, not a bad Lots of lovdly | :04:19. | :04:24.
sunshine. Let's have a look ahead though with Holly Green. | :04:25. | :04:31.
Good evening. Some of us were lucky enough to see some lovely blue skies | :04:32. | :04:35.
through the day today, but we have seen cloud thickening up and that | :04:36. | :04:37.
process is continuing through tonight. That cloud pushing in from | :04:38. | :04:41.
the west, bringing with it ` few spits and spots of rain through the | :04:42. | :04:44.
night tonight. It could get quite chilly in the night, but with the | :04:45. | :04:47.
breeze picking up, temperattres should tend to rise towards dawn. We | :04:48. | :04:51.
could see a bit of early mist and fog as well, but again, that will | :04:52. | :04:55.
clear as that breeze increases. So we start tomorrow morning on a | :04:56. | :04:58.
cloudy note. Some patchy rahn expected through the morning but, in | :04:59. | :05:02.
the afternoon, we see a lind of heavier and more persistent rain | :05:03. | :05:04.
sweeping in and that could bring some coastal gales. Top temperatures | :05:05. | :05:06.
tomorrow between Hello. For some of us, it was quite | :05:07. | :05:17.
a decent state, some sunshine around, but not the case right now | :05:18. | :05:22.
in Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland, chilly with some rain as | :05:23. | :05:26.
well, you will have to warm yourself | :05:27. | :05:27. |
