Welcome to Wales Today. The headlines. Terror in Newport, as | :00:04. | :00:14.
:00:14. | :00:17. | ||
three women are shot at a hairdresser's. It was frightening. | :00:17. | :00:20.
It was in another salon across the road. It is frightening how these | :00:20. | :00:24.
things can happen. You do not expect these things to happen on a | :00:24. | :00:28.
busy main road on a Friday afternoon. Tonight, helicopters are | :00:28. | :00:38.
:00:38. | :00:41. | ||
flying above the city, searching for the gunman. | :00:41. | :00:44.
Also in the programme - as A-level results fall further behind England, | :00:44. | :00:51.
the Education Minister is accused of being in denial. | :00:51. | :00:54.
Harley Ruck was killed by her mother. A report finds nothing | :00:54. | :00:59.
could have been done to predict or prevent her death. | :00:59. | :01:02.
In tonight's sport, final tweaks to the Liberty Stadium ahead of | :01:02. | :01:09.
Swansea's first home game and one former manager is excited to be | :01:09. | :01:15.
there. The moment that the Liberty stadium opens the doors to the | :01:15. | :01:19.
Premier League is an unique moment. It is a great occasion. The | :01:19. | :01:23.
feelings I have towards the football club, it will be great to | :01:23. | :01:27.
be there. And ready to impress against the Pumas, but who will win | :01:27. | :01:33.
Warren Gatland over? He names his World Cup squad on Monday. | :01:33. | :01:37.
Good evening. Police are hunting for a gunman tonight after three | :01:37. | :01:40.
women were injured in a shooting in broad daylight at a hairdressing | :01:40. | :01:47.
salon in Newport. It happened in the Malpas area. One of the main | :01:47. | :01:50.
routes into the city as been cordoned off. Our reporter, Nick | :01:50. | :02:00.
Palit, is there for us. This is the Malpas area of the city. | :02:00. | :02:06.
It is very close to the centre of the city. It is very busy. It is in | :02:06. | :02:10.
one of these shops where the shooting happened this afternoon. | :02:10. | :02:16.
Police reserve the first call around at 2:20pm. A man from a | :02:16. | :02:19.
neighbouring shop saw a woman running from the hairdresser's | :02:19. | :02:26.
screaming. Scenes of crime officers have been searching the area and | :02:26. | :02:31.
police have confirmed that a gun was recovered from the scene. Three | :02:31. | :02:35.
women in the hairdressers were injured. One has a gunshot wound to | :02:35. | :02:41.
the knee, another has an injury to her neck. All three received | :02:41. | :02:45.
hospital treatment but their injuries are not thought to be | :02:45. | :02:49.
life-threatening. Police launched a hunt for the gunmen in the | :02:49. | :02:52.
neighbouring streets and people within the cordon were told to stay | :02:52. | :02:59.
indoors. The police helicopter helped with the search. This woman | :02:59. | :03:04.
says everyone is shocked. glanced outside and just saw the | :03:04. | :03:09.
police and everything. It shook us by surprise. It was a bit of a | :03:09. | :03:14.
shock to us all. And when you heard what would -- what had happened, | :03:14. | :03:20.
what went through your mind? It is frightening. Being in a salon as | :03:20. | :03:24.
well and it was in another salon across the road, how things these | :03:24. | :03:28.
paint -- these things happen. You do not expect these things to | :03:28. | :03:32.
happen on a busy main road on a Friday afternoon. Local people say | :03:32. | :03:36.
it is normally friendly and quiet and they are disturbed by eat the | :03:36. | :03:43.
events. I just came to the end as the fella came down. I came down as | :03:43. | :03:51.
it was all happening. It is a very quiet area normally. The road is | :03:51. | :03:56.
one of the main routes in a mad - in and out of Newport. Its closure | :03:56. | :04:00.
has hindered rush-hour traffic. What more do we know about this | :04:00. | :04:06.
incident? It happened around four hours ago. | :04:06. | :04:09.
Eyewitnesses say they saw two were elderly customers running screaming | :04:09. | :04:19.
from the salon. This is a domestic incident. The gunman was either the | :04:19. | :04:25.
husband or partner of someone in that salon. People in the | :04:25. | :04:34.
neighbouring shops say the salon had an elderly clientele. | :04:34. | :04:39.
manhunt is very much still ongoing tonight. That is right. Tonight, | :04:39. | :04:45.
the latest we have is that the police are trying to chase a grey | :04:45. | :04:55.
:04:55. | :05:04. | ||
They are very keen to trace that car as soon as possible. The police | :05:04. | :05:08.
operation has been up and running. The police helicopter has been in | :05:08. | :05:15.
the air. And this road remains closed. There is a shield up around | :05:15. | :05:22.
the shop. We know that a gun has been recovered. The man would not | :05:22. | :05:32.
:05:32. | :05:33. | ||
appear to be armed any more. The rumours are that this man is local. | :05:33. | :05:37.
We will come back to you for more in the -- later in the programme. | :05:37. | :05:40.
The Welsh Conservative leader Andrew RT Davies has accused the | :05:40. | :05:42.
Education Minister Leighton Andrews of denying the obvious in his | :05:42. | :05:45.
assessment of yesterday's A-level results. Mr Andrews said the | :05:45. | :05:47.
performance in Wales was excellent, despite falling further behind the | :05:47. | :05:51.
rest of the UK on every measure. He said the Welsh Baccalaureate needs | :05:51. | :05:55.
to be taken into account when looking at exam results. Here's a | :05:55. | :05:57.
reminder of what the minister told our education correspondent, Ciaran | :05:57. | :06:07.
:06:07. | :06:08. | ||
Jenkins. You clearly do not understand what has happened today. | :06:08. | :06:12.
We have a record number of young people that have achieved the Welsh | :06:12. | :06:17.
Baccalaureate. It is the equivalent of an A grade at A-level. That is | :06:17. | :06:23.
what is important. We have to look at the entire picture. We have an | :06:23. | :06:28.
increase in overall performance. And we have that record number of | :06:28. | :06:32.
young people with it the equivalent of an A grade at A-level. So, let's | :06:32. | :06:37.
look at Welsh Baccalaureate now. was introduced seven years ago and | :06:37. | :06:39.
this year nearly 7,000 students were awarded the advanced version, | :06:39. | :06:43.
well up on last year's figure of 4,360. The pass rate for the | :06:43. | :06:51.
baccalaureate was 83.5%. That compares to 23.9% of A-level | :06:51. | :07:01.
:07:01. | :07:07. | ||
entries that got an A. This is one of 7,000 students | :07:07. | :07:12.
across Wales awarded the Welsh Baccalaureate yesterday. The | :07:12. | :07:15.
Education Minister insists this puts a different spin on the A- | :07:15. | :07:20.
level results. Top grades were down and the gap with the rest of the UK | :07:20. | :07:24.
Career one every measure. But the minister's defence is that the | :07:24. | :07:28.
Welsh Baccalaureate is the equivalent to one A grade at A- | :07:28. | :07:37.
level. But it is not counted in the official results. I would have | :07:37. | :07:40.
hoped that the minister could have been more imaginative in his | :07:40. | :07:45.
responses in the light of the results being published. It is | :07:45. | :07:51.
regrettable and it does strike you as the former university -- | :07:51. | :07:58.
European dictator -- stating the obvious. The Welsh Baccalaureate is | :07:58. | :08:03.
a key skills qualification, for which there are no final exams. It | :08:03. | :08:08.
includes an 80, problem-solving, research, work experience and it's | :08:08. | :08:14.
put -- exploring Wales's place in the world. We went round with the | :08:14. | :08:22.
people collecting the rubbish. It showed me that there was another | :08:22. | :08:29.
side that I did not know. It broadened my mind a bit. Many other | :08:29. | :08:35.
aspects, I found that I already knew it. The Welsh Baccalaureate | :08:35. | :08:39.
gives students the equivalent of an A level but is it as much work? | :08:40. | :08:45.
do not think it took as much work. I stressed myself out so much | :08:45. | :08:51.
getting my results and I think now that the Welsh Baccalaureate is a | :08:51. | :08:57.
lot easier because you can redraft the work. It is not down as a resit. | :08:57. | :09:03.
It is not like having an exam at the end of the year. Given the | :09:03. | :09:06.
components of the Welsh Baccalaureate and the International | :09:06. | :09:15.
Baccalaureate, am not surprised to find that the students feel... It | :09:15. | :09:25.
:09:25. | :09:28. | ||
is absolutely the equivalent of an Cambridge and Birmingham | :09:28. | :09:34.
universities have said that applicants should study three A- | :09:34. | :09:38.
levels, regardless of whether or not they are studying the Welsh | :09:39. | :09:43.
Baccalaureate. If you do the three A-levels plus the Welsh | :09:43. | :09:50.
Baccalaureate, you while at a huge advantage. All universities, pretty | :09:50. | :09:55.
much all of them, now recognise the Welsh Baccalaureate. There is no | :09:55. | :09:59.
doubt that the Welsh Baccalaureate is proving you -- useful tool Welsh | :09:59. | :10:05.
students. But the big question is does it make Wales's A-level | :10:06. | :10:11.
results any less disappointing? Can you answer that question for | :10:11. | :10:16.
us? It probably helps if we look back to the minister's speech in | :10:16. | :10:20.
February. A big speech outlining major reforms in the Welsh | :10:20. | :10:24.
education system and major failings. He said that A-level results in | :10:24. | :10:28.
Wales were not keeping up with the rest of the UK. He said there were | :10:28. | :10:35.
not enough top grades at A-level. Yesterday's exam results, despite | :10:35. | :10:39.
some amazing performances, those top grades went down and the rest | :10:39. | :10:43.
of the -- the gap with the rest of the UK actually grow wider. The | :10:43. | :10:49.
minister began talking about the Welsh Baccalaureate qualification. | :10:49. | :10:52.
But the question is should we consider that to be the same as the | :10:52. | :10:57.
A-level when we are looking at how ought Welsh school children have | :10:57. | :11:04.
done? The answer is, if you add the Welsh Baccalaureate score to the A- | :11:04. | :11:09.
level scores then suddenly the exam performance in Wales shoots writer, | :11:09. | :11:13.
it shoots up so high that Welsh students are doing better than the | :11:13. | :11:17.
rest of the UK and I do not think you will find many education | :11:18. | :11:21.
experts are that would actually believe that is the case. Can you | :11:21. | :11:26.
give us a kick -- quick update on the Clearing situation? Cardiff | :11:26. | :11:31.
declared themselves fall this afternoon. Bangor University | :11:31. | :11:37.
declared themselves fall yesterday. Very limited in the rest of Wales. | :11:37. | :11:41.
Time is running out for those after a university place but there is | :11:41. | :11:46.
always next year. Two men accused of using Facebook to encourage | :11:46. | :11:49.
riots in South Wales have been remanded in custody for a further | :11:49. | :11:51.
two weeks. The cases against Anthony Gristock and Jamie Counsell | :11:51. | :11:54.
were adjourned until next month. Meanwhile two teenagers accused of | :11:54. | :11:58.
encouraging a riot in Wrexham were also remanded in custody. 19-year- | :11:58. | :12:01.
old Thomas Hughes and 18-year-old Jack Lewis will appear in court | :12:01. | :12:06.
again in October. Another person's been confirmed as | :12:06. | :12:10.
having E-coli, following an outbreak in Cardiff. There are now | :12:10. | :12:13.
eight confirmed cases, with four more people under investigation. A | :12:13. | :12:16.
kebab shop in the Roath area remains closed while investigations | :12:16. | :12:22.
continue. A report into the death of an 11- | :12:22. | :12:24.
month-old baby girl, stabbed by her mother in their Abergavenny home, | :12:24. | :12:27.
has found that nothing could have been done to predict, or prevent | :12:27. | :12:32.
the tragedy. A Serious Case Review says although Jade Ruck was known | :12:32. | :12:35.
to Social Services, there was never any evidence she would harm her | :12:35. | :12:41.
daughter. Harley Ruck was just days away from | :12:41. | :12:45.
her first birthday when she was killed by her 23-year-old mother. | :12:45. | :12:49.
She had multiple stab wounds. A post mortem also found signs of | :12:49. | :12:53.
suffocation, and strangulation. It happened here, in the flat she | :12:53. | :12:58.
lived in with Jade Ruck in Abergavenny. In the early hours of | :12:58. | :13:01.
the 20th of November last year, Gwent Police received a call from a | :13:01. | :13:04.
concerned relative who said that Jade Ruck had told them she felt | :13:04. | :13:08.
like dying. When officers visited the flat they found Harley sleeping, | :13:08. | :13:11.
they were satisfied no immediate action was needed and made a | :13:11. | :13:16.
referral to Social Services for a follow up assessment. But just | :13:16. | :13:19.
hours later, Jade Ruck dialled 999 saying she'd stabbed her daughter | :13:19. | :13:24.
with a kitchen knife. She'd told the operator she couldn't handle | :13:24. | :13:29.
life anymore. Harley Ruck's body was found in the hallway of their | :13:29. | :13:34.
flat, alongside her mother. Police officers said Jade Ruck was acting | :13:34. | :13:37.
as if nothing was wrong and told them, I'm free now, I'm alright as | :13:37. | :13:41.
long as I'm free. But today's report, by Monmouthshire Local | :13:41. | :13:44.
Safeguarding Children Board concludes that there were no prior | :13:44. | :13:47.
protection issues or concerns about Jade Ruck's ability to care for her | :13:47. | :13:54.
child. It says she had experienced episodes of depression but that | :13:54. | :13:58.
nothing suggested this impacted on her role as a mother. She'd had | :13:58. | :14:01.
difficulty dealing with the end of her relationship with Harley's | :14:01. | :14:04.
father, but despite twice coming into contact with police and social | :14:04. | :14:14.
:14:14. | :14:14. | ||
services, neither raised concerns about her. We are left with a human | :14:14. | :14:22.
tragedy which all of us struggle to understand. In the report, | :14:22. | :14:26.
unusually, the author has put some research findings at the back of | :14:26. | :14:31.
the report to talk about the murder of one's child because it is such | :14:31. | :14:35.
an unusual thing. In July this year, a Judge at Swansea Crown Court | :14:35. | :14:38.
ordered that Jade Ruck be detained in hospital indefinitely, after she | :14:38. | :14:39.
admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished | :14:39. | :14:42.
responsibility. Today, reassurances though that any lessons, however | :14:42. | :14:51.
small, will be learned from what A reminder of our top story tonight | :14:51. | :14:54.
A major search is on after a shooting at a hairdressers in | :14:54. | :14:59.
Newport. Officers have recovered a gun. One woman is shot, two others | :14:59. | :15:02.
are injured. And a final chance to shine against | :15:02. | :15:12.
:15:12. | :15:15. | ||
the Pumas before Warren Gatland A row over sandwiches has broken | :15:15. | :15:18.
out at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor. Hospital volunteers have threatened | :15:18. | :15:21.
a walkout over who supplies the sandwiches for a charity run tea | :15:21. | :15:26.
bar. For 20 years they have come from the local daily but now the | :15:26. | :15:35.
WRVS, which runs the bar, says it is switching to UK-wide supplier. | :15:35. | :15:43.
It is turning out to be rather more than a storm in a teacup. The. Of | :15:43. | :15:48.
the WRVS volunteers are making, they ascended is a local made down | :15:49. | :15:53.
the road. These other sandwiches head office bosses want to replace | :15:53. | :15:58.
them with, all part of the UK-wide contract with the food giant, | :15:58. | :16:06.
doomsters. Today, the chiefs from the WRVS met the Indians and | :16:06. | :16:11.
undressed is in the air. Go on voluntary strike? Feelings are | :16:11. | :16:15.
running very high and people are talking about not coming next week. | :16:15. | :16:22.
We are not going to turn up. We will not turn up. Without her says | :16:22. | :16:29.
volunteers they won't have a caffeine to serve sandwiches. | :16:29. | :16:34.
group might say they are making the changes to save money. It is | :16:34. | :16:39.
happening at 13 hospitals in Wales. To get a Bangor each day, the | :16:40. | :16:43.
sandwiches will cross the Mackenzie from Leicestershire taking in the | :16:43. | :16:51.
M1 and M6 and then finally the A55. Around 180 miles. At this Sturley | :16:52. | :16:56.
where the sand ridges are currently make, they were doing a roaring -- | :16:56. | :17:00.
roaring lunchtime trade but six jobs will go with the loss of his | :17:00. | :17:07.
contract. It hurts inside. I know men are not supposed to be | :17:07. | :17:15.
emotional but I have been. Is is hard. You worry Small business | :17:15. | :17:19.
losing its biggest customer. Yes. We have to be competitive and that | :17:19. | :17:23.
means as having to look at all of our services and making sure that | :17:23. | :17:28.
we can, wherever possible, make savings and that is like having a | :17:29. | :17:34.
national supplier makes sense. They would give volunteering information | :17:34. | :17:38.
on the packaging. That is important to us because we won the group back | :17:38. | :17:48.
:17:48. | :17:50. | ||
to be here for the next 73 years. Will the customers still by the | :17:50. | :17:54.
sandwiches? Will they be staff to sell them? We will have to wait and | :17:54. | :17:57.
see. The row over who owns Colwyn Bay's | :17:57. | :18:00.
historic pier has seen another twist today. It's now been placed | :18:00. | :18:04.
in the hands of the UK Government's legal department. The Grade Two | :18:04. | :18:06.
listed structure has been closed for nearly three years, after its | :18:06. | :18:15.
owner went bankrupt. It had been placed in the hands of a bankruptcy | :18:15. | :18:18.
trustee, but they've formally given up any interest in the pier. | :18:18. | :18:21.
Ownership has now been passed to the Crown, worrying some people who | :18:21. | :18:25.
want to see their local landmark restored. | :18:25. | :18:29.
The people of this town are concerned about the peer, they will | :18:29. | :18:34.
want to see it preserved. The longer it goes on the more | :18:34. | :18:36.
dilapidated it gets the more unlikely that seems to be. | :18:36. | :18:39.
A familiar face is back at Swansea City tomorrow. Claire has tonight's | :18:39. | :18:43.
sports news. Good evening. The Premier League | :18:43. | :18:46.
comes to Wales for the first time tomorrow when Swansea City play | :18:46. | :18:49.
their first home match at the Liberty Stadium. The visitors are | :18:49. | :18:52.
Wigan Athletic who are now managed by former Swans boss, Roberto | :18:52. | :18:57.
Martinez. He was vilified by some fans when he left but is now hoping | :18:57. | :19:00.
they will understand the part he played in getting them to the top | :19:00. | :19:09.
flight. When Swansea's team walked out for | :19:09. | :19:11.
their Premier League debut on Monday many could lay claim to play | :19:11. | :19:14.
some part in their rise. Brendan Rodgers will always be remembered | :19:14. | :19:18.
as the man who took them into the top flight but he acknowledges that | :19:18. | :19:23.
success was built on foundations laid by others. Us us the Roberto | :19:23. | :19:28.
Martinez. As club managers are the Spaniard may Swansea contenders at | :19:28. | :19:32.
the top end of the Championship. He decided to leave to manage Wigan | :19:32. | :19:36.
and a Premier League. He angered many fans. Roberto Martinez stands | :19:36. | :19:40.
by that decision not just for him personally as for the club. | :19:40. | :19:46.
sure the fans will look back and think, if we Erina Premier League | :19:46. | :19:48.
maybe that was not the wrong decision for the football club. I | :19:48. | :19:53.
tried to say that at the time but it was impossible for me to put it | :19:53. | :19:59.
in a way that fans would trust me. I am hoping that now they can look | :19:59. | :20:03.
back and be happy and be proud of the achievements of their football | :20:03. | :20:12.
club. Roberto Martinez is expecting a rough reception. | :20:12. | :20:18.
He can take credit for the way we play. He said the structure. | :20:18. | :20:26.
Brendan has taken us to a new level. It should be a good football game. | :20:26. | :20:29.
So Swansea took some confidence from their first Premier League | :20:29. | :20:34.
match on Monday even though they lost 4-0 at Manchester City. There | :20:34. | :20:39.
is no disgrace in losing to title contenders. Tomorrow's match should | :20:39. | :20:44.
provide a truer picture of how competitive Swansea will be. | :20:44. | :20:50.
You are looking at your home games, you try to make it a fortress. It | :20:50. | :20:54.
was important for less nasty and his will be no different for us | :20:54. | :20:58.
this year. You want to win the Games, the home games whoever | :20:58. | :21:02.
you're playing against. It will be an historic day tomorrow and one I | :21:02. | :21:08.
am looking forward to. We want to get our first three points on the | :21:08. | :21:11.
border soon as we can and we will do everything we can tomorrow to | :21:11. | :21:15.
achieve that. Today, staff at the Liberty Stadium were making sure | :21:15. | :21:18.
everything was in place to the ground would look his best for a | :21:18. | :21:23.
packed house at the global TV audience. First impressions count | :21:23. | :21:26.
and soars to want to make their mark in the world's most popular | :21:26. | :21:28.
league. Cardiff City are away to Burnley in | :21:28. | :21:31.
the Championship tomorrow. After losing to Brighton midweek, the | :21:31. | :21:34.
Bluebirds first defeat under Malky Mackay, the manager says the | :21:34. | :21:37.
players are not unnerved by the blip and are out to get back on | :21:37. | :21:44.
track. It is going to be a long season and | :21:44. | :21:48.
everyone is going to have to get through this. We will have periods | :21:48. | :21:51.
of winning and losing and will have to make sure we have to be | :21:51. | :22:00.
consistent. We are working hard and we have got to make sure we take | :22:00. | :22:04.
chances and have less mistakes. Rugby. With just over three weeks | :22:04. | :22:08.
to go before the start of the World Cup Wales are preparing for their | :22:08. | :22:10.
last warm-up match against Argentina at the Millennium Stadium | :22:10. | :22:13.
tomorrow. Martyn Williams will skipper the side and he's hoping to | :22:13. | :22:22.
make it into the World Cup squad. A final run-out ahead of the final | :22:22. | :22:26.
World Cup warm-up game. My last chance to claim a place in the | :22:26. | :22:30.
squad. One man who has waited patiently for his chances Martyn | :22:30. | :22:35.
Williams, having been overlooked for this year's Six Nations, he has | :22:36. | :22:41.
one last opportunity to impress on his 99th cap. It is important that | :22:41. | :22:46.
when you play against Argentina, the tendency is a stagnated game. | :22:46. | :22:51.
You have to create a tempo and we want to keep our ball in hand and | :22:51. | :22:55.
get a link between the forward on the backs. Martyn Williams is | :22:55. | :22:59.
crucial in that role as he has been for many seasons. He is one of nine | :22:59. | :23:03.
changes to the side that beat England. The players want to put in | :23:03. | :23:06.
a similar performance tomorrow with the World Cup less than one month | :23:06. | :23:11.
away. With the host of star players plying their trade in Europe, | :23:11. | :23:15.
Argentina will provide a stern test for Warren Gatland's team. At the | :23:15. | :23:23.
last World Cup, the Pumas finished third. We will take this | :23:23. | :23:29.
opportunity to play is the very good team. In terms of players and | :23:29. | :23:36.
tactics, Wales has one of the teams that play is very modern rugby in | :23:36. | :23:40.
the northern hemisphere. I have this summer a's game, Warren | :23:40. | :23:43.
Gatland will finalise his World Cup plans. He will name his 30 man | :23:44. | :23:47.
squad on Monday. Cricket. James Harris took five | :23:47. | :23:50.
wickets as Glamorgan took the lead at the end of play on day three of | :23:50. | :23:53.
their county championship match against Leicestershire. In the | :23:53. | :24:03.
:24:03. | :24:11. | ||
sunshine at Colwyn Bay the visitor Let me just bring you an update on | :24:11. | :24:13.
Paralympic cycling champion, Simon Richardson. He is still critical | :24:13. | :24:16.
but stable in hospital after being knocked off his bike in a suspected | :24:16. | :24:19.
hit-and-run two days ago. Surgeons have decided not operate on his | :24:19. | :24:22.
back, pelvis and breastbone which were all fractured in the crash as | :24:22. | :24:26.
they review his condition. There is some relief today he may be able to | :24:26. | :24:29.
return to cycling because his right leg which he pedals with was not | :24:29. | :24:34.
injured in the crash. A weekend of sport starts tonight. | :24:34. | :24:40.
Sport Wales gets underway in a few Tom Shanklin's views on the Wales | :24:40. | :24:44.
team tonight. Then tomorrow, the Wales versus Argentina match is on | :24:44. | :24:48.
BBC 1 Wales from 2pm. There is also commentary on Radio Wales, Radio | :24:48. | :24:52.
And, Wrexham is in action tonight away to Lincoln. You can hear the | :24:52. | :24:57.
game on Radio Wales FM in the north from 7:30pm. Time now for the | :24:57. | :25:06.
weekend weather. Will the rain stay The rain is already here this | :25:06. | :25:09.
evening. But has been a quiet day today but at the moment we have got | :25:09. | :25:13.
a weather front making its way in from the West. With that comes a | :25:13. | :25:19.
lot of rain of western part, pushing Easter it. Overnight it | :25:19. | :25:21.
will fizzle out in the north but a mild nights compared with last | :25:21. | :25:29.
night. The wind quite breezy along the coast would like to the further | :25:29. | :25:33.
inland you are. Notice there's no pressure Erie are feeding in | :25:33. | :25:38.
weather fronts. It is going to be an unsettled day tomorrow. First | :25:38. | :25:42.
thing in the morning, dry air in Anglesey to Wrexham. But the rate | :25:42. | :25:46.
will reach from the south. Like Sampras year the morning but | :25:46. | :25:50.
picking up intensity as we go into the afternoon especially across the | :25:50. | :25:55.
North and West. Breezy along the coast. If you are going to the | :25:55. | :25:59.
match tomorrow in the Millennium Stadium it will be cloudy and wet | :25:59. | :26:03.
for kick-off but by the time you come out hopefully the rain has | :26:03. | :26:06.
cleared and we should see some brighter conditions. All the | :26:06. | :26:12.
coverage and BBC One wears, Radio Wales and Radio Cymru. That rain | :26:12. | :26:16.
band is heavy in the north and west easing into Sunday morning, | :26:16. | :26:19.
becoming light in nature and we keep a lot of cloud and another | :26:19. | :26:26.
mild night. Sunday a much better day. We should some more sunshine | :26:26. | :26:30.
and the best day of the weekend. There is a risk of a few showers as | :26:30. | :26:36.
we head through that day at St the further west you are. Areas such as | :26:36. | :26:45.
Cardigan Bay. On Monday, we go back Our top story tonight, police are | :26:45. | :26:49.
still looking for a man after a woman was shot and other two were | :26:49. | :26:53.
injured at a hairdressing salon in Newport. It is thought he was | :26:53. | :27:03.
:27:03. | :27:09. | ||
Let's head back to Newport. Any more developments? | :27:09. | :27:14.
The search for that car and the man continues. Here in Malpas, some 4 | :27:14. | :27:18.
two and a half hours after the incident, the road is still closed. | :27:19. | :27:23.
It is a busy, Commercial Road and it was in one of these shops at | :27:23. | :27:29.
about 2:30pm that the gun incident took place. It is very popular with | :27:29. | :27:35.
elderly clientele. A man burst into the salon and opened fire. People | :27:36. | :27:39.
ran from the shop screaming. Since then police have arrived, the court | :27:39. | :27:44.
and has been put up other is a blue cord and been put behind me. That | :27:44. | :27:48.
has been put up and the last hour and scenes of crimes of the surf a | :27:48. | :27:54.
working behind them. The police are leading this investigation has | :27:54. | :27:58.

with police officers. We have recovered a firearm at the scene | :28:22. | :28:27.
